elcome to the 24th running of the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan. And what a show this year’s series has in store, because you are about to witness the highest level of competition ever to grace Canadian soil. Plus, we are working diligently to improve our delivery of information to keep you informed as the series develops through social media, television coverage and week to week race reports. Last year, the MX1 championship title wasn’t determined until the last round and last moto of the series between Matt Goerke and Colton Facciotti. Goerke captured the #1 plate by his consistent finishes at each round to secure his second national title. For 2016, who knows how many riders will be in the hunt once the last round arrives, because the number of riders who have the potential to hit the podium is incredible. Take your pick: Matt Goerke, Colton Facciotti, Brett Metcalfe, Mike Alessi, Vince Friese and Davi Millsaps are all expected to finish in the top three if not take a win. But you can’t discount Tyler Medaglia because the series’ underdog always seems to work his way to the front. And everyone is curious to see how Kaven Benoit performs in his first year in the big bike class. So how is it going to turn out? Beats me, I don’t even want to guess the top three. The MX2 class may be in the same boat. Now that Benoit is out, the title is for anyone’s to take. Cole Thompson has moved back to the MX2 class; considering he finished fourth overall in MX1 last year, I would say he is the favourite to win. However, there are a lot of speedsters behind him that think otherwise. New to the series and a former AMA Arenacross Champion, Jacob Hayes will have to prove his mettle outdoors, considering he will face MX2 regulars Jeremy Medaglia, Shawn Maffenbeier, Brad Nauditt and Dylan Wright who are all familiar with the majority of the tracks. As they say,

We’ve got it covered so it will be simple to track what’s going on from the first gate drop in Kamloops to the final checkered flag in Barrie. Fox Sports Racing will broadcast each one hour show domestically, RDS2 will be available for viewers in Quebec, and for our American neighbours that are fans of the series, MAVTV will bring the racing right into your living room. SERIES CHANGES FOR 2016 The Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan, sanctioned by CMRC, is entering its 24th year and it gets bigger and better every year. Our motto from the beginning is “Change for the Better” and that’s exactly what we’ve done…again. Two venues are making a return to the schedule in 2016, Pleasant Valley Raceway in Truro, Nova Scotia, and RJ Motosport Park in Barrie, Ontario. The mandate for each round is location, location, location. The Truro and Barrie rounds move us to major centers, which will attract even more spectators to the series, and are outstanding, national calibre venues with tracks that will be a challenge to every Pro. The most exciting news this year is the addition of Live Streaming Video through our new partner Conx2share. The best motocross announcer in the business, Brian Koster, will host each show along with a special guest to give you live, lap by lap coverage that you won’t want to miss. FAN GUIDE WHAT ARE THE CLASSES?
The 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan are split into two classes; MX1 Pro and MX2 ProAm. The MX1 Pro class competes on the bigger 450cc machines; this class consists of riders that are considered to be the premier riders in the series. In this class, you will find riders like Brett Metcalfe, Colton Facciotti, Matt Goerke, Mike Alessi and Tyler Medaglia. The MX1 Pro class motos are 30 minutes plus 2 laps in length. The MX2 ProAm class competes on the smaller 250F (four-stroke) or 250 two-stroke machines. These riders are generally younger and less experienced than the MX1 Pro riders, although there are exceptions. The MX2 ProAm motos are a little shorter at only 25 minutes plus 2 laps, but given the lesser experience of these riders, the racing is quite intense and a little more unpredictable.
WHAT BRAND OF BIKES DO THESE RIDERS RACE?
There are six main brands of motocross bikes — Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna and Suzuki. Even though a sponsor may dictate the colour of a rider’s bike, the general rule is that Kawasakis are green, Hondas are red, Yamahas are blue, KTMs are orange, Husqvarnas are white and Suzukis are yellow. Although there might be a few subtle differences between the bikes, they are all very similar in power and performance. They all use a five-speed transmission, the clutch is always located on the left side of the handlebars, the front brake is on the right, the rear brake pedal is located by their right foot and the gear shifter is by their left foot. They all use a kick starter with the exception of KTM and Husqvarna, which have electric start.
WHY DO THE NUMBER PLATES HAVE DIFFERENT COLOURS?
This determines what class you’re riding. The MX1 Pro class uses black numbers on white
backgrounds and the MX2 ProAm class uses white numbers on a black background. Occasionally you will see bikes that have black numbers on yellow backgrounds in the MX2 ProAm class. These riders normally compete in the amateur Intermediate class but are allowed to try to qualify for the MX2 ProAm class. A rider with a white number on a red background is the series leader in their respective class. All these colours make it very easy for the lap scorers and the fans to distinguish the class in which the riders race.
WHAT DOES THE BIG 30 SECOND BOARD ON THE STARTING LINE MEAN?
This is how a motocross race begins. After the riders are given a parade lap to inspect the track, they return back to the starting gates. The starting line official pans the line to see if the riders and their machines are ready to go. This is a rider’s last chance to delay the start. Once all riders are ready, the official hands the board over to the 30 second girl, who holds up it up for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds she flips the board to display the 5 second board, then after 5 seconds she turns the board sideways. At this point the gate will fall within the next 5 seconds. This may sound complicated but for these experienced riders it is all pretty simple.
WHAT DO ALL THE FLAGS MEAN?
The officials use a series of flags to indicate to the riders the different situations that may arise during a race. The green flag, displayed at the finish line at the end of the first lap, means that the track is clear and the race is a go. However, if the red flag is waved, this means there has been an accident that needs the attention of all the officials and ambulance personnel, and the race will be stopped. If the red flag is given past the halfway point of a moto, the race will be declared complete and the riders will be scored as they were when the red flag was displayed. The yellow flag is a caution flag, which lets the rider know that there is a rider down
ahead. A red cross flag means that not only is a rider down but that the rider requires medical attention. When a rider sees a red cross flag they know that there is medical staff n the track and they have to use extreme caution; they are not allowed to have their wheels leave the ground over a jump. The white flag is given at the finish line indicating that the race has one lap remaining. A black flag means either the rider has done something wrong and the referee wants to see him, or there is something hanging off f his bike that is dangerous. The checkered flag means the race is over. With the long, tiring motos that these riders have to endure, this is a welcomed sight.
DO THE RIDERS CHOOSE THEIR NUMBERS?
The numbers from 1 to 99 are assigned to riders based on their overall points from the previous year. Newcomers to the series and those finishing outside the top 100 the previous year can choose any three digit number on a firstcome first-serve basis.
HOW DO THE RIDERS CHOOSE THEIR STARTING GATE?
For each round of the series, the gate pick for the opening moto is given by the order in which the rider qualified the morning of the race. Each rider has a transponder attached to their bike to time their laps. In the morning of the race a timed qualifying session is held and the rider with the fastest lap time from that session gets the first pick on the gate, and the remaining riders then choose according to their qualifying lap time. For the second moto of the day, gate pick is determined by how the rider finished in the first moto. This is a very fair way of staging riders as it rewards them for their first moto performance.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN A RIDER GETS THE HOLESHOT?
The holeshot goes to the rider that reaches the marked holeshot line past the first turn after the start. This brave, crafty rider gets the prestigious job of leading the pack around the track for as long as he can hold the position, plus he receives the Royal Distributing Holeshot Award. In the MX1 Pro class, the rider is rewarded $300 for the holeshot, and $200 in the MX2 ProAm class. If that same rider gets the holeshot in the second moto then he wins the Royal Distributing Triple Crown Holeshot Award and doubles his money. For instance, in the MX1 Pro class, they would earn $300 per holeshot plus a $600 bonus.

Gopher Dunes represents not just the series’ first eastern stop, but also the most demanding and gruelling stop on the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan. When you arrive in the morning the track is unnaturally smooth and tame, inviting even. However, the track is much like a wolf in sheep’s clothing as by the end of practice the level sand turns into large rolling whoops that keep getting deeper and deeper, leaving riders feeling exhausted both physically and mentally. The round at Gopher Dunes falls in the heat of summer in Ontario when the temperature and humidity are usually high. Mixed with a brutally rough track, riders are tested to their limits. It’s breathtaking to watch riders still charging in the final laps, and for the pure enthusiast who understands the demands of motocross, you cannot help but give a nod of respect to each rider on the track.
After a ten year hiatus, the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals returned to this historic track in 2014. This sandy track is located 20 minutes south of Drummondville, QC, which sits on the side of a hill overlooking the Saint-Francois River. Like Riverglade, this track has been around for a long time and has provided the backdrop for some of Canada’s greatest motocross battles. The riders thoroughly enjoy racing on this circuit as it takes them on a rollercoasterlike ride up and down the sandy Ulverton hills. With its potential to get very rough, this track will test the riders’ resolve; it can also be very hot in Quebec during this time of the year so the high temperatures could play a very important role. For 2016, this track moves up in the schedule to Round 6 so all of the riders will be looking to position themselves in the points standings.
Everyone in Canadian motocross is extremely happy that this track has returned to the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals after a 14 year hiatus. The Pleasant Valley circuit is nestled in the rolling hills near Truro, NS, and it will definitely present the riders with a very unique battleground for Round 7. This race marks the first of two back to back stops on the East Coast, and both are sure to be exciting. The last time the series visited this track, fans lined the fences to watch Canadian legends Jean Sebastien Roy and Blair Morgan battle for MX1 supremacy. This year the racing will be even more exciting as the 2016 series boasts a talented line up of riders from all corners of the globe. So sit back and enjoy the racing on one of this country’s best tracks, and let’s all welcome Pleasant Valley Raceway back to the series.

For decades, the Moncton National has been one of the favourite stops of the series. The welcome riders and teams get on this East Coast stop is what makes this event so special. Riverglade MX Park, which sits just 30 minutes from the city center, is a track full of history as it has hosted Canadian Motocross Nationals longer than any other track in the country. The track weaves around the property and is usually lined with shirt-waving fans. There are a few unique sections on the Riverglade circuit that help make it an absolute fan favourite. Whether it’s the 100km/hr main straightaway that runs parallel to the TransCanada Highway, or the massive “Klatt-APult” jump, there is always something cool to watch. With this round now being the second in the Maritimes, it will be sure to attract fans from all over.
Round 9 of the series travels to Quebec and the well liked Deschambault circuit. The track is full of large rolling hills, deep sand and of course passionate Quebec motocross fans. As the legend JSR can attest to, hometown heroes are a-plenty in Quebec. For many years, thousands of motocross fans would do whatever they had to do to be at the Quebec round to personally cheer on Jean Sebastian Roy. These days they will be cheering for the likes of Kaven Benoit and Tim Tremblay as these riders race in front of their hometown fans. Located 30 minutes west of Quebec City, the Deschambault facility hopes to build on the success of the last two years with a few track improvements and property updates to help accommodate the mass of spectators that plan to attend. This weekend will also host the CMRC Grand National Amateur Championship, which will run from Thursday to Saturday. With a great track and a terrific facility, this is one event that you don’t want to miss.
This year’s series marks the first time in two decades that the final round will change venues. For 2016, the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals will wrap up at the rough and extremely challenging RJ Motosport Park circuit located just north of Barrie, ON. This track will give the riders a tough track for their final two motos of the 2016 season when anything is possible. This Ontario track has a lot of history associated with it as it used to hold National races during the late 1990s and early 2000s. During those years, we watched Canadian legends like Blair Morgan and Marco Dubé battle on its sandy terrain. RJ’s is not only a rider favourite but it’s also a fan’s dream as the track is littered with massive jumps and high speed corners. Fans can also get very close to the action as the spectator viewing is unreal. This circuit will be new for all the riders who compete at the final round, so the racing should be exciting in both classes.

oming into the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan, Matt Goerke was fit and ready to do whatever it took to retain his number one plate. However, during the first four rounds, things haven’t exactly gone smooth for the two-time Canadian Champion. After winning the opening moto of the series in Kamloops, Goerke was given a ten position penalty at Round 2 and was involved in a first turn pile up at Round 3 in Calgary. Both incidents kept Goerke off he podium and far away from the MX1 points lead as the 2016 series heads east. However, with some of his favourite tracks waiting for him in the final six rounds, anything is possible and no one knows that better than Matt Goerke. We caught up with the Yamaha star as he puts the west behind him and prepares for the gruelling eastern rounds.
C
MXP: How have things been going so far for 2016? MG: Not good! I started off eally well by winning the first moto of the season, but after that I’ve had a string of bad luck. I tore up my hand in Kamloops, I was docked 10 positions in Nanaimo and then I was in a first turn pileup in Calgary. So I’ve definitely had some adversity in the first
four rounds, but I’m ready to put all that behind me now. MXP: You came into 2016 in great shape and you won right away. Are you happy with your fitness and set up? MG: I’m happy with my fitness, I worked hard to prepare for this season and it‘s all good. We’re still working on my bike set up a little, but I think we will have it good for the rough tracks of the east. MXP: Have there been any surprises for you? MG: Just all of the stuff ’ve had to deal with every week so far during the first four rounds. I definitely wasn’t prepared for all of that, but like I said, we’ll work through it and come out stronger in the end. MXP: Like you said, you’ve had a couple of setbacks so far, but it looks as though you’re riding really well. MG: Thanks, yes, I’m not sure why it’s happening, but it has to end at some point. I’ve been the underdog my entire life so this is nothing new for me. As you can imagine, I’m very excited to be heading east.
MXP: I guess if you’re going to have things like this happen, you want them to happen early on in a series. MG: For sure, I’ve lost a lot of points but we still have twelve more motos on some very tough tracks. These days anything can happen; we’ll just go one round at a time and see what happens. MXP: In 2015, you were very strong in the east. Is that helping you stay positive through this adversity? MG: Definitely! Like I said, Gopher Dunes is my best track, so I think things will be different from there on. MXP: I was just going to say that I bet you’re looking forward to Round 5 at Gopher Dunes. MG: Oh yes, Gopher Dunes has been very good to me in the past and I hope it is again this year. MXP: What is it about you and sand? You’re like a kid at the beach. MG: Haha! I grew up in Florida so I rode it a lot. I guess I was a just a kid playing in the sand. MXP: Obviously you’re a natural sand rider but you must be proud that you’ve become such a well-rounded rider who can win on all surfaces.

MG: For sure! That’s one reason why I moved to California in 2012, so I could practice on completely different tracks than what I was used to. MXP: What do you have to do in the east to keep that #1 plate? MG: I just need to win and have a little luck go my way this time. MXP: You also have a brand new teammate in Brett Metcalfe, how has that been going? MG: It’s been good. We get along really well. Both of us have some points to make up so we’re in the same boat heading into the east. MXP: You two are both tremendous competitors but you have different personalities. Is it going to be tough to have one of your biggest rivals under the same tent? MG: I don’t think so! We’re great competitors but we get along well. I think we can race each other hard on the track and know that neither of us is going to do something stupid. MXP: Thanks for doing this Matt. I know I speak for all Canadian race fans when I say that it’s going to be an incredible final six rounds of racing. Best of luck to you and your team. MG: Thank Chris! s the MX1 riders enter the eastern rounds of the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan, they’re definitely in store for the very difficult final six rounds. While most of the western rounds blessed the riders with cool temperatures and hard packed soil conditions, the eastern rounds will be sure to deliver heat and humidity, as well as much more challenging tracks. To be successful in the second half of this highly competitive series, the athletes will have to be incredibly fit, steadfast, and very aggressive. Whichever rider comes out on top when the series concludes at Round 10 in Barrie, Ontario, they will have certainly earned the label of one of the best riders to ever race on Canadian soil. Right from the opening round of the 2016 MX1 series in Kamloops, KTM Thor rider Davi Millsaps has most definitely been the man to beat. Moto after moto, Millsaps has muscled his way to the front of the pack in almost every race, and if it wasn’t for a ten position penalty for jumping on a Red Cross flag at Round 2, Millsaps’s results, entering Round 5, would have almost been perfect. Coming into this summer, everyone predicted that Milllsaps would be good, but very few predicted that he would be this good. Fellow top riders like Matt Goerke, Mike Alessi, Colton Facciotti and Brett Metcalfe have all been close to Millsaps at times, but so far no one has been able to pass the American superstar. Davi Millsaps enters Round 5 at Gopher Dunes with a 24 point lead over fellow American Mike Alessi, and as mentioned, many more moto wins. Can Millsaps get through the rough tracks and the extreme conditions that only the eastern rounds can bring? Once again we reach out to Ryan Lockhart for a look at who will find the most success in the second half of the 2016 MX1 Series.
A
1 DAVI MILLSAPS KTM THOR RACING
Heading into the 2016 MX1 series, I, like everyone else, knew that Millsaps would be very fast. After all, he is a former US Supercross Champion and a SX main event winner from not that long ago. However, I never in my wildest imagination thought that Millsaps would be as dominant as he has been. Right from the first gate drop of the year, he’s proven to be the most aggressive rider, as well as the fastest. In short, Millsaps has simply wanted it more than everyone else thus far. With six very difficult tracks ahead in the east, there’s no reason to think that Millsaps won’t continue his winning ways in the MX1 class. Although he may have a tough time beating sand specialist Matt Goerke at Gopher Dunes, and he might not win every remaining moto, there’s little doubt in my mind that he won’t win this title and win it going away. In the past we’ve witnessed a few top Americans travel north to Canada to try their hand at beating our top stars, and while a few of those riders have been successful, none have come here with the raw speed that Millsaps has shown us in the first four rounds. My prediction is that Davi Millsaps will be our 2016 MX1 Champion and he will give his team their first title in this class.

MATT GOERKE ROCKSTAR ENERGY OTSFF YAMAHA

Since Matt Goerke’s win in the opening moto of the series back in Kamloops, Goerke has been making mistakes and they have cost him a lot of points. At Round 2 in Nanaimo, Goerke was also penalized ten positions for jumping on a Red Cross flag. At round three in Calgary, he was involved in a first turn incident which pushed him way back in the results. Then at Round 4 in Regina, Goerke did finish on the podium but he was well off he pace. In a nut shell, Goerke enters the second half of this series in a massive hole. If you remember back to his championship winning year in 2015, Goerke was leading the MX1 series heading into the Gopher Dunes National. Even with all of his troubles so far, Goerke must be confident for the series to begin its eastern swing. With four remaining tracks made up of sandy, soft conditions, Goerke will be looking to use his superior sand skills to make up those lost points. He is without a doubt one of the best, pure sand riders in the world, so look for him to be very good at Gopher Dunes. After that, Goerke will need some help from his fellow competitors if he hopes to win another MX1 title. I predict that he will win a few motos in the east but will come up short of winning the 2016 MX1 Championship.
COLTON FACCIOTTI HONDA CANADA GDR FOX RACING

I’m not sure what has surprised me the most about Colton Facciotti during the first four rounds of this series. It’s either his second moto in Kamloops when he almost caught and passed Millsaps for the moto win or it’s the fact that he hasn’t come remotely close to doing it again. Compared to the opening weekend when Colton was so fast, since then he’s been struggling with his starts and that has cost him. With the competition being so deep in 2016, none of the riders can afford to get off o a slow start. It will be very interesting to see if Colton can rebound in the east and find that little extra speed that he appears to be missing. If this was anyone but Colton Facciotti then I’d be worried, but over the years he’s shown so much resiliency that anything is possible. Last season we had to wait until Round 6 at Sand Del Lee for Colton to find his A-game. Once he did, though, he managed to win multiple motos to finish out the series and almost win the MX1 Championship. With the level of talent in this year’s MX1 class, another late season charge by Colton will be very tough. If he has any hope of winning the 2016 title, he must come out at his sponsor’s home track and show that he’s able to run at the front of the pack. He will have a lot of fans cheering for him as right now he is Canada’s best hope at winning another MX1 Championship.

MIKE ALESSI MONSTER ENERGY
ALPINESTAR KAWASAKI
We all remember two years ago when a few very strange mechanical issues in the eastern rounds cost Mike Alessi the 2014 MX1 title. First it was a shortage of fuel at Gopher Dunes that knocked him down form the lead to just inside the top twenty, then a week later, one of his grips fell off hile he was leading. It was a shame that Alessi suffered those problems as he was the fastest rider of the series that year. But racing is racing and those things sometimes happen. So far in 2016, we’ve seen a much calmer and a more calculated Mike Alessi, and it seems to be working. After a strong showing in the first four rounds in the west, Alessi heads to the final six rounds with a lot of confidence. Not only is he heading to a few of his favourite tracks, but he is also getting more and more comfortable on his all-new 2016 KX450F. During the last two rounds in Calgary and Regina, Alessi showed us a few glimpses of the speed that has made him famous over the years. Can he find a little extra speed and chase down Millsaps for this 2016 MX1 title? I say that Alessi may win a moto or two in the east, but he will come up well short of the championship.
5 BRETT METCALFE ROCKSTAR ENERGY OTSFF YAMAHA
With how successful Brett Metcalfe has been over the years I find it hard to put the likeable Aussie in fifth place in the final standings. During the first four rounds out west, Metcalfe showed a few flashes of speed but his slow starts in some of the motos have cost him a shot at the podium. Also, it appears that Metcalfe has had some issues with finding comfort on his new Yamaha, which may explain why he’s been slightly off he pace. With this year’s MX1 class, there is simply no room for error, a bad start or even a few bad laps; any of the riders can find themselves outside of the top five. This has been the case so far with Metcalfe and if he wants to be successful he’ll have to limit his mistakes. However, this is Brett Metcalfe and there’s a reason why he’s a former MX1 Champion and a 15 year veteran. Few riders are better at making the best out of a bad day than Metcalfe; he just simply never gives up. He’ll need all of this intestinal fortitude, as well as a little Aussie luck, if he hopes to win his second Canadian MX1 title. As we enter Round 5 at Gopher Dunes, Metcalfe still has as good a shot as anyone to bring home the gold, he just needs to find a way to beat the KTM of Davi Millsaps.

s we head into the second half of the 2016 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan, in the MX2 class we still have many questions and very few answers. Like we saw last year, this class is full of young and aggressive riders who are all trying to make a name for themselves. While consistency may not always be front and center with these young riders, the MX2 class will most certainly be exciting to watch as the riders tackle the difficult tracks of the east. So far in the first four rounds, only Cole Thompson has proven to be very consistent on his KTM. Beginning at Round 5 in Gopher Dunes, the MX2 riders will be tested right away as they will be sure to find Gopher Dunes extremely challenging. From there they follow the rising sun east to the natural terrain gem that is Ulverton, QC, then it’s on to the beautiful East Coast for two challenging rounds in Truro, NS and Moncton, NB. Following that, the series heads back to the sands of Deschambault before finishing up at the series finale in Barrie, ON. The MX2 series always seems to get decided in the final eastern rounds of the series. The rough tracks are tough on the riders physically, and the extreme conditions are also tough on their machines. The rider that can limit their mistakes and be smart with their machines will come out victorious in the end. So far that rider has been Cole Thompson, but as they say, anything can happen in the east. Let’s take a look to see who might come out on top in the final MX2 standings.

1 COLE THOMPSON KTM THOR RACING TEAM
So far in this series Cole Thompson has led the way in almost every moto. He was steady in the heat of Kamloops, smooth on the slick surface in Nanaimo, and he battled through a little adversity in Calgary and Regina to bring the Red Plate to the east. It will be very tough to beat Cole in the final six rounds as the MX2 class will be racing on tracks that he knows very well. Also, the fact that he lives in Ontario and is accustomed to the heat and humidity will make him that much harder to catch. If Cole can ride smart and if his KTM is as reliable as it was out west, then we feel like Cole Thompson is the rider who will win the 2016 MX2 Championship.

2 SHAWN MAFFENBEIER BIG STEEL BOX REDEMPTION RACING KTM
Right from the drop of the gate in Kamloops, Shawn Maffenbeier has been incredibly fast and consistent when he has tried to keep Cole Thompson in sight. After three very solid rounds to start off he 2016 series, Shawn’s good luck came to an end at Round 4 in Regina. In moto one he was docked ten positions for inadvertently jumping on a Red Cross flag, and then during moto two his bike malfunctioned and he was forced out of the race. Because of his bad day in Regina, Shawn enters Round 5 fifty points behind Cole Thompson. This is obviously a massive gap to make up in the remaining twelve motos, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Maffenbeier. This guy has the heart of a lion and he never gives up. We feel that although he will make a good run and will win some races, sadly he will come up short and finish in second overall.
3 DYLAN WRIGHT MX101 FXR RACING YAMAHA
With a full winter of training Dylan had down in California, he came into the 2016 series in great shape. Other than a tough round in Nanaimo, Dylan has been very fast and very consistent so far this summer. Over the past few seasons Dylan has always raced better on the rough eastern tracks and we don’t expect that will be any different this time around. If Dylan can get through Gopher Dunes with some solid finishes then we feel he will be able to use that momentum to climb back up to the top three by series’ end. There are few riders on the track more exciting to watch this year than Dylan Wright. He is fast, aggressive and he doesn’t give an inch to anyone on the track. With some good starts and good luck, there is no question that he will win another moto this summer and finish the year up in third overall.

MARK WORTH MONSTER ENERGY ALPINESTAR KAWASAKI
When Jacob Hayes was injured at Round 1 in Kamloops, the Monster Energy team called up American rider Mark Worth to fill in. So far it has been a great move for this team as Worth has been a nice addition to the MX2 class. He’s not only fast but he’s also a very strong rider, and that should help him on the eastern tracks. If Worth can gain a little more confidence and get himself to the front early, then we feel he’s capable of winning a moto or two before the series is over. The only drawback for Worth is that he’s not too familiar with the eastern tracks, but hopefully he will be a quick learner and find his way onto the podium as the series enters its final six rounds. We feel that when the final points are added up after Round 10, Mark Worth will finish up in a very solid fourth place.
JEREMY MEDAGLIA HONDA CANADA GDR FOX RACING To say that Jeremy Medaglia has had a miserable start to the 2016 MX2 series would be a gross understatement. Not only did he not get off o a good start at Round 1, but a crash in Nanaimo forced him to miss rounds three and four and fall way back in the points standings. However, we feel that after he heals, Jeremy will come out in fine form at Round 5 in Gopher Dunes. Not only is Jeremy fighting for as many points
as possible, but he’s also fighting for his career as he needs to prove to everyone, including himself, that he can win races. This kid is very talented and he’s currently part of one of the top teams in the series. If he’s healthy for the eastern rounds, then there’s no reason why he won’t be able to make a push for the top five in the overall points standings.

2016 CMRC EASTERN CANADIAN WOMEN’S NATIONAL PREVIEW

he CMRC Eastern Canadian Women’s Nationals has grown throughout the years to become one of the most prestigious Women’s racing events in Canada. Last season, the east series had a huge increase in numbers making each round a full gate of exciting action. For 2016, the girls will have four rounds to prove themselves as to who will be on top. With an addition of a fourth round in Barrie, Ontario, this series will be an event you won’t want to miss. For the past two years, Quebec native Eve Brodeur has won the championship. Eve has also been competing in the US WMX Nationals this year and has ridden consistently around the top 5. I believe that the competition this year will be stiffer with some fast girls coming from the U.S and some off-road girls from Quebec coming to compete for the #1 plate. I fully expect (and hope) that every round will have 40 riders on the gate! Sylvain Brodeur and I have worked really hard to secure sponsors for this year and we hope to see a full gate of ladies at each race. Something special about our series is that while we do have Holeshot awards and top 3 plaques like the men’s series, we also have a draw table of prizes for the girls at the end of the day. This helps provide equitable opportunity to the women competing in this series by giving them the opportunity to receive free gear and equipment. While most top men riders are sponsored with gear, 99% of top females in Canada are not. While we are not at the point (yet!) where women are treated equally in motocross, we can strive to provide them equitable opportunities. Often, the

terms “equity” and “equality” are misused and interchanged. Equity recognizes that some are at a larger disadvantage than others and aims at compensating for these people’s disadvantage in order to make sure that everyone is capable of attaining the same type of goal. Equity is different than equality such that we can’t use the one-size-fits-all method to apply to everyone. That’s equality and equality does not always elicit true fairness. We need to put in the extra work and give everyone what they need. Round 3 August 6th 2016 Circuit Deschambault Round 4 August 13th 2016 RJ Motosport Park Importantly, most of these tracks are predominantly sand. Gopher Dunes is deep sand, and here fitness and endurance are a huge factor. Gopher Dunes is probably one of the most physically exhausting tracks on the circuit, because it is deep, loamy sand. Ulverton is also sand, but has some elevation as well. The track goes up and down the side of a massive hill, which is exhausting for the riders, but spectators have a great view of the track. Deschambault is also sand with some clay base in corners. Deschambault is one of the longer tracks on the circuit, and has great jumps and elevation. I expect that at Ulverton and Deschambault there will be a full gate of women, 40 or more. I expect that there will be lots of girls from the Quebec series and off-road series that will come out of the woodwork here to compete. We might even have to run qualifiers! RJ’s Motosport Park is new to the circuit this year, which adds a fourth round to our series. We are excited to see the girls battle it out on a “new” track. The addition of a fourth round also gives the women more opportunities to achieve points, which will be more forgiving if they have one bad moto. Last year’s 6 moto format left little room for error, but this year the addition of two races will help. Keep an eye out for more news in the next few weeks as we get closer to Round 1! hen we speak about the very cool things happening in 2016, we definitely have to talk about the 2nd Annual KTM Super Mini Nationals. This three round series will again be separated into Eastern and Western rounds with a champion being crowned on both sides of the country. The two moto format will take place on the Saturday before the pros take to the track on Sunday. This will give the young riders a chance to race on the same track as their heroes and then hopefully stick around to watch those same heroes battle the following day. The KTM Western Canadian Super Mini Nationals will kick off n June 4th in Kamloops in what is sure to be a grand event for everyone involved. From there, the Super Mini riders will follow the same path as the CMRC Western Canadian Women’s Nationals with stops in Nanaimo and Calgary the following two weekends. For the Eastern swing, which is also presented by KTM Canada, the Super Mini riders will have their skills tested at their first round at Canada’s toughest track, Gopher Dunes, on July 9, 2016. From there they will not leave the sandy soil of Eastern Canada as their series heads to Ulverton, QC, and then they wrap up at one of the new stops of the Canadian Nationals, RJ Motosport Park in Barrie, Ontario, August 13th. To help make these two titles as prestigious as any in Canada, the winners of both the Western and the Eastern Super Mini Championships will each be awarded a brand new 2017 KTM motorcycle as well as a parts credit to use at their local dealer. Even though these fast kids will win trophies throughout this very cool series, the real jackpot for these talented kids will be the exposure that comes with competing at a high profile event like the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals presented by Motovan. When these young riders line up their 85cc to 105cc motorcycles on the starting gate, a lot of eyes will be watching to see who might be the next Kaven Benoit or Cole Thompson. These riders will also be receiving National coverage via Conx2share’s live streaming video streaming broadcast for each round. This series gives our young riders an incredible opportunity to not only perform on a large stage but also to learn what it’s like to compete at a high profile event where the pressure can be immense. With names like Jacob Piccolo all set to compete in the KTM Western Canadian Super Mini Nationals, and Jake Tricco ready to battle in the KTM Eastern Canadian rounds, the stage is set for some incredible racing right across this country.
