GOPHER DUNES RACING 4385 Hwy 59 Courtland, ON, N0J1E0 519-842-1041 derek.schuster@gmail.com MEDAGLIA TAKES ANOTHER 4th OVERALL IN EDMONTON Courtland, Ontario- The Wild West is now officially complete after a great weekend of racing at Castrol Speedway in Edmonton, Alberta. GDR Troy Lee Designs Powersports Canada rider, Tyler Medaglia, currently sitting in 3rd place in the championship battle, was motivated to come into Round 4 and chip into the points lead of 2nd place Kiniry (+19pts) and 1st place Goerke (+41 its). After qualifying Medaglia found himself with 4th gate choice and found himself lined up elbow to elbow with Kiniry and Goerke at the gate in Moto1. Medaglia unfortunately did not get the start he was looking for, getting caught in a big rut that had him rubbing bars with multiple riders and getting squeezed out in corner one coming out in 9th spot. The lead pack, including Goerke and Kiniry were able to use this advantage to put some distance on the pack while Medaglia had to fight his way through traffic and battled back to a 5th place finish when the checkered flag dropped on Moto 1. "Theres no margin for error on the start gate in MX1. Last year I suffered through a few bad starts in MX2 and was always able to work my way back out front but its a different game in the 450 class and I really need to work on dialling these starts so I can run up front from the get-go" said Medaglia. "Fourth place is not where I need to be right now, I feel great, my bike is awesome but I need to jump out of the gate better" he added. In an all too common trend, Mother-Nature popped up to say hello with some heavy rain prior to the start of the 2nd MX2 moto which left the MX1 teams sitting back to see how track conditions were going to shape up. With Castrol Speedway holding up surprisingly well, the rain subsided before the start of Moto 2 and after the gate dropped Medaglia found himself in 6th place and Goerke, Kiniry and Facciotti up front leading the charge and starting to put a gap on the field after lap 2. Medaglia put his head down and charged hard to try to get around Maffenbeir and Dennis but by that time the top 3 had pulled out a 13 second gap and it was an uphill battle for the remainder of the Moto. The GDR rider put his head down and charged as hard as he could and with 3 laps to go was able to reel in Facciotti and make the pass into 3rd place securing himself a place on the podium in Moto 2 and a 4th overall for the weekend. "I was really happy with the way I rode in Moto2, but again the start is critical and it wasn't as strong as it needed to be, but I kept charging and was able to work myself up into 3rd place and on the podium" said Medaglia. Team Manager, Derek Schuster added "Its been a strong start to the series,we are positioned well going into the 2nd half of the year and we are going to take the next couple weeks to work on further testing of the bikes and I know Tyler has a few aspects of his riding and training he is going to work hard on".
