WELCOME TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF CANADIAN MOTOCROSS he 2018 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series will mark the first year of the newly
T
designed Canadian motocross program. After 25 years of amazing racing under the care of CMRC and Mark Stallybrass, they handed the reins over to Jetwerx. Mark has brought this sport to new heights; myself and the Jetwerx team plan on continuing the growth of our beloved sport. May 26, 2018 will be the start of the
outdoor portion of the Triple Crown Series called the MXtour Nationals. Year one of Arenacross is in the books and two champions have already crowned. The 2017 250 National Champion, Shawn Maffenbeier, continued his dominance in the small bike class and took home his second 250 title in a mere 8 months. In the big bike class it was KTM rider Cole Thompson who won all but one main event in the six round series to claim the 450 Championship, and set the tone for the year in the chase for $100,000. 2017 450 Motocross Champ, Matt Goerke, is getting back up to speed after a wrist injury he suffered in the winter that hampered his results in AX. He will be looking to catch up in the Triple Crown points and add a fourth title to his trophy case. The 450 class is deep in talent this year, with past multi-time Canadian Champs Colton Facciotti, Kaven Benoit and Tyler Medaglia all looking for that top spot again. Add in the super quick riders from south of the border - Mike Alessi, Dillan Epstein, Cade Clason, among others -and this 450 MXtour Championship should be one to remember. Heading into the 250 Championship, it’s hard not to put your money on the reigning champ, Shawn Maffenbeier. He has been a man on a mission over the last year and a half. Will he keep his title streak going? A few guys that might be able to give you answers to that question are Yamaha’s Jess Pettis, GDR Honda’s Dylan Wright, and Redemption KTM’s Josh Osby. Also eyes will be on the rookie battles between young Tanner Ward and Marco Cannella; both are set for their first full year of Pro racing. Another addition to this yea’rs program is bringing Women’s Motocross back in with the 250/450 Pro racing, all taking place on Saturdays. You’ll be able to catch four rounds of WMX West, as well as four rounds of WMX East. Big things for Amateur racing are in store with the brand new “Parts Canada Amateur Opens,” which is a Regional Championship on the Sunday after Pro day with huge trophies, live streaming, podium interviews, and awards ceremonies to name a few are some awesome things lined up for the Amateur program this year. With a few brand new tracks to the outdoor series, Popkum Motor Park and McNabb Valley, as well as a few fan favourites coming back to the tour, Sand Del Lee MX and Walton MX, the whole Jetwerx crew is excited to take the racing outdoors. With all the TV coverage being covered by TSN, and the Series having the most airings in the history of Canadian Motocross, things are looking bright for the future of our sport. To catch up with everything involving the Rockstar Triple Crown Series, it can be found on the website www.rockstartriplecrown.com, which includes the amazing Race Day LIVE streaming coverage, Live timing, results and all things Canadian Moto. For the person that needs the action at their finger tips, Instagram @triplecrownseries, twitter @ triplecrownser and Facebook (/Rockstartriplecrown). To all the Moto enthusiasts out there, I truly hope you enjoy the racing, and come join us in the growth of this amazing sport of Motocross here in Canada.

CATCHING UP WITH JETWERX PRESIDENT JUSTIN THOMPSON
THIS YEAR WILL BE THE FIRST OF BIG CHANGES THAT RECENTLY TOOK PLACE WITHIN THE SPORT. AFTER 25 YEARS OF BEING THE MAN BEHIND THE BEST RACING THAT THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER WITNESSED, MARK STALLYBRASS HAS OFFICIALLY HANDED THE REINS OVER TO JUSTIN THOMPSON. FOR THE PAST TWO SEASONS, THOMPSON HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN BRINGING HIS ONCE USA BASED AX TOUR TO CANADIAN CITES LIKE SARNIA, BARRIE, LONDON AND CALGARY. HOWEVER, ON FEBRUARY 24TH, 2018, THOMPSON AND HIS JETWERX CREW LAUNCHED THE ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK TRIPLE CROWN, WHICH INCLUDES BOTH INDOOR EVENTS AS WELL AS A NINE ROUND, COAST TO COAST OUTDOOR SERIES. WITH A VERY EXCITING YEAR AHEAD IN 2018, WE SAT DOWN WITH THE MAN BEHIND ALL OF THESE NEW CHANGES, JUSTIN THOMPSON.

T H E T R I P L E C R O W N M O N E Y, T H E NEW NUMBERING SYSTEM, THE R A C E S B E I N G O N S AT U R D AY S , THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO BE EXCITED ABOUT FOR 2018. Yes, we needed to change things up a bit. The career numbering is good on so many levels. From marketing of a rider, fan recognition, or just being able to build a rider’s personal brand. It makes being a casual fan that much easier. It’s hard trying to re-learn everyone’s number year to year. The Saturday Nationals is mainly to help with our TV packaging and the eventual switch to some Live Television. It also keeps things in uniform with Arenacross and Supercross race days. It will also assure we have the best track conditions possible for the top guys to do battle.

WESTERN TRACK PREVIEW
W I L D R O S E C Y C L E PA R K C A L G A RY, A B M AY 2 6 , 2 0 1 8 As we kick off the 2018 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series in style, the Wild Rose Motocross Association, that operates the track in Calgary, is fortunate to have a track that is unique in the motocross world. The track is located minutes from downtown Calgary, a city of a million people! The location is so rare for newcomers to the track because it feels odd driving into a motocross oasis in the middle of a city. This track is a rider favourite as the loamy soil and huge jumps make it a lot of fun to ride. Maybe this is one of the reasons why the Wild Rose track has provided some of the best battles that we’ve ever seen over the years. Every time pro racing comes to Calgary something exciting always seems to happen. If we think back to a year ago, the fans in attendance got to witness Christophe Pourcel go from dead last to inside the top ten. Also, who can forget the incredible riding by the 2017 250 Pro/AM Champion Shawn Maffenbeier in Calgary last year. With great spectator viewing and the skyscrapers of Calgary in the background, this opening round of the 2018 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series is sure to be one of the most entertaining races we’ve ever seen in Canada.
ROUND 2 P O P K U M M O T O R PA R K POPKUM, BC JUNE 2, 2018 For Round 2 of the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series, professional motocross returns to the lower mainland of British Columbia, after a thirteen-year absence, with the addition of Popkum Motor Park to the series. Popkum is located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, fifteen minutes east of Chilliwack, alongside the Trans Canada Hwy, and is nestled into the forests resting at the base of Mount Cheam. The clay base track is just over 2km in length, and lap times are expected to exceed two minutes as riders weave throughout the forest battling against one another. Riders will enjoy the variety of terrain, man-made obstacles and considerable changes in elevation, while hitting speeds of up to 70kph. Expect fast passing and lots of action at this race! Spectators will enjoy the elevated grass viewing areas overlooking the track as they cheer on their favourite rider. Look for local boy and 4-time Canadian Champion Colton Facciotti to battle hard for the win in front of his hometown crowd

ROUND 3 B L A C K WAT E R M X T R A C K PRINCE GEORGE, BC JUNE 9, 2018 One of the most exciting changes last year was heading to Prince George, BC for Round 2. The Prince George area is a powersports mecca with many different activities, from boating and riding in the summer to skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. The Blackwater track is the gem of the PGMA. It sits proudly on the side of a large hill and provides numerous elevation changes. Riders will enjoy the loamy soil and cool layout that makes up this track. With lap times that will exceed two minutes in length, there will be plenty of opportunity for fans to enjoy watching their favourite riders. With the long uphills and downhills, the riders’ braking and accelerating skills will be sure to be put on display. Also, this event will once again be a popular one with race fans in the Prince George area. Look for local boy Jess Pettis to put on a great show as he knows this track very well. We can’t wait to see the gate drop at the Blackwater track for the second year in a row.
ROUND 4 M C N A B B VA L L E Y M X T R A C K MINNEDOSA, MB JUNE 16, 2018 McNabb Valley MX is located five minutes west of Minnedosa, Manitoba, 35 minutes north of Brandon, Manitoba right off of the Yellowhead Highway. One of Manitoba’s favourite tracks, it’s known for its picturesque landscape and pristine pitting area. The soil type at McNabb Valley is a clay loam that develops into some serious ruts, which makes for great line choices in the corners, capped off with a challenging sand section. The riders are going to love this new circuit as it has just about every type of obstacle they could imagine. With this race being the final western round, the riders will be trying to make a statement prior to the series heading east. Located on the top part of the track layout, spectators have an amazing view of everything, and the best part is the big table top jump right in front of you! The track is high speed with great flow and technical sections that make it fun for watching some great racing!

After sitting out most of last season with an injury, Kaven Benoit is finally healthy and ready to compete at the highest level of this sport again. Look for Benoit to run up front early in this series while he tries to gain back some much needed confidence. As he’s been for a number of seasons in Canada, Mike Alessi is a rider that you can never count out. Always a great starter, Alessi has been a rider that loves to get out front early and be very aggressive.
