WELCOME TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF CANADIAN MOTOCROSS he 2018 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series will mark the first year of the newly
T
designed Canadian motocross program. After 25 years of amazing racing under the care of CMRC and Mark Stallybrass, they handed the reins over to Jetwerx. Mark has brought this sport to new heights; myself and the Jetwerx team plan on continuing the growth of our beloved sport. May 26, 2018 will be the start of the
outdoor portion of the Triple Crown Series called the MXtour Nationals. Year one of Arenacross is in the books and two champions have already crowned. The 2017 250 National Champion, Shawn Maffenbeier, continued his dominance in the small bike class and took home his second 250 title in a mere 8 months. In the big bike class it was KTM rider Cole Thompson who won all but one main event in the six round series to claim the 450 Championship, and set the tone for the year in the chase for $100,000. 2017 450 Motocross Champ, Matt Goerke, is getting back up to speed after a wrist injury he suffered in the winter that hampered his results in AX. He will be looking to catch up in the Triple Crown points and add a fourth title to his trophy case. The 450 class is deep in talent this year, with past multi-time Canadian Champs Colton Facciotti, Kaven Benoit and Tyler Medaglia all looking for that top spot again. Add in the super quick riders from south of the border - Mike Alessi, Dillan Epstein, Cade Clason, among others -and this 450 MXtour Championship should be one to remember. Heading into the 250 Championship, it’s hard not to put your money on the reigning champ, Shawn Maffenbeier. He has been a man on a mission over the last year and a half. Will he keep his title streak going? A few guys that might be able to give you answers to that question are Yamaha’s Jess Pettis, GDR Honda’s Dylan Wright, and Redemption KTM’s Josh Osby. Also eyes will be on the rookie battles between young Tanner Ward and Marco Cannella; both are set for their first full year of Pro racing. Another addition to this yea’rs program is bringing Women’s Motocross back in with the 250/450 Pro racing, all taking place on Saturdays. You’ll be able to catch four rounds of WMX West, as well as four rounds of WMX East. Big things for Amateur racing are in store with the brand new “Parts Canada Amateur Opens,” which is a Regional Championship on the Sunday after Pro day with huge trophies, live streaming, podium interviews, and awards ceremonies to name a few are some awesome things lined up for the Amateur program this year. With a few brand new tracks to the outdoor series, Popkum Motor Park and McNabb Valley, as well as a few fan favourites coming back to the tour, Sand Del Lee MX and Walton MX, the whole Jetwerx crew is excited to take the racing outdoors. With all the TV coverage being covered by TSN, and the Series having the most airings in the history of Canadian Motocross, things are looking bright for the future of our sport. To catch up with everything involving the Rockstar Triple Crown Series, it can be found on the website www.rockstartriplecrown.com, which includes the amazing Race Day LIVE streaming coverage, Live timing, results and all things Canadian Moto. For the person that needs the action at their finger tips, Instagram @triplecrownseries, twitter @ triplecrownser and Facebook (/Rockstartriplecrown). To all the Moto enthusiasts out there, I truly hope you enjoy the racing, and come join us in the growth of this amazing sport of Motocross here in Canada.

CATCHING UP WITH JETWERX PRESIDENT JUSTIN THOMPSON
THIS YEAR WILL BE THE FIRST OF BIG CHANGES THAT RECENTLY TOOK PLACE WITHIN THE SPORT. AFTER 25 YEARS OF BEING THE MAN BEHIND THE BEST RACING THAT THIS COUNTRY HAS EVER WITNESSED, MARK STALLYBRASS HAS OFFICIALLY HANDED THE REINS OVER TO JUSTIN THOMPSON. FOR THE PAST TWO SEASONS, THOMPSON HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN BRINGING HIS ONCE USA BASED AX TOUR TO CANADIAN CITES LIKE SARNIA, BARRIE, LONDON AND CALGARY. HOWEVER, ON FEBRUARY 24TH, 2018, THOMPSON AND HIS JETWERX CREW LAUNCHED THE ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK TRIPLE CROWN, WHICH INCLUDES BOTH INDOOR EVENTS AS WELL AS A NINE ROUND, COAST TO COAST OUTDOOR SERIES. WITH A VERY EXCITING YEAR AHEAD IN 2018, WE SAT DOWN WITH THE MAN BEHIND ALL OF THESE NEW CHANGES, JUSTIN THOMPSON.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO BE EXCITED ABOUT FOR 2018. Yes, we needed to change things up a bit. The career numbering is good on so many levels. From marketing of a rider, fan recognition, or just being able to build a rider’s personal brand. It makes being a casual fan that much easier. It’s hard trying to re-learn everyone’s number year to year. The Saturday Nationals is mainly to help with our TV packaging and the eventual switch to some Live Television. It also keeps things in uniform with Arenacross and Supercross race days. It will also assure we have the best track conditions possible for the top guys to do battle.

EASTERN TRACK PREVIEW ROUND 5 S A N D D E L L E E R A C E WAY O T TAWA , O N J U LY 7 , 2 0 1 8 It has been a few years since Sand Del Lee has hosted a round of the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown MXTour Nationals. This sandy circuit is located just thirty minutes from downtown Ottawa and is a favourite among the riders. Whether it’s the challenging layout or the legion of enthusiastic fans that come to watch, this round always seems to provide entertaining racing. For 2018, Sand Del Lee will be hosting the first eastern round of the nine-round series. With Ontario being notoriously hot and muggy in July, this race could be the most difficult of the series. This is the first time that Sand Del Lee will be hosting the opening Eastern round. With a few extra festivities planned for the race weekend, Round 5 in SDL should be one of the most exciting.
ROUND 6 G O P H E R D U N E S R A C E WAY COURTLAND, ON J U LY 1 4 , 2 0 1 8 When you arrive in the morning, the track is unnaturally smooth and tame, inviting even. However, the track is much like a wolf in sheep’s clothing as by the end of practice the flat sand turns into large rolling whoops that keep getting deeper and deeper, leaving riders feeling exhausted both physically and mentally. The round at Gopher Dunes falls in the heat of summer in Ontario when the temperature and humidity are usually high. Mixed with a brutally rough track, riders are tested to their limits. It’s breathtaking to watch riders still charging in the final laps, and for the pure enthusiast who understands the demands of motocross, you cannot help but give a nod of respect to each rider on the track. Late last year, Gopher Dunes went through some major track alterations, so it should be exciting watching the riders compete on this new layout.

ROUND 7 R I V E R G L A D E M X PA R K MONCTON, NB J U LY 2 8 , 2 0 1 8 For decades, the Moncton National has been one of the favourite stops of the series. The welcome riders and teams get on this East Coast stop is what makes this event so special. Riverglade MX Park, which sits just thirty minutes from Moncton’s city centre, is a track full of history as it has hosted Canadian Motocross Nationals longer than any other track in the country. The track weaves around the property and is usually lined with shirtwaving fans. There are a few unique sections on the Riverglade circuit that help make it an absolute fan favourite. Whether it’s the 100km/hr main straightaway that runs parallel to the Trans Canada Highway or the massive “Klatt-A-Pult” jump, there is always something cool to watch. With this round now being the only one in the Maritimes, it will be sure to attract fans from all over.
ROUND 8 M O T O C R O S S D E S C H A M B A U LT D E S C H A M B A U LT, Q C AUGUST 5, 2018 Round 8 of the series travels to Quebec and the well-liked Deschambault circuit. The track is full of large rolling hills, deep sand and of course passionate Quebec motocross fans. As the legend JSR can attest to, hometown heroes are a-plenty in Quebec. For many years, thousands of motocross fans would do whatever they had to do to be at the Quebec round to personally cheer on Jean Sebastian Roy. These days they will be cheering for the likes of Kaven Benoit and Tim Tremblay as they race in front of their hometown fans. Located 30 minutes west of Quebec City, the Deschambault facility hopes to build on the success of the last two years with a few track improvements and property updates to help accommodate the mass of spectators that attend. This weekend will also host the MRC ECAN (Eastern Canadian Amateur Nationals), which will run from Thursday to Saturday. With a great track and a terrific facility, this is one event that you won’t want to miss.
ROUND 9 WA LT O N R A C E WAY WA LT O N , O N AUGUST 18, 2018 After a brief two-year hiatus, Walton Raceway has returned to the series as the all-important final round. With its rolling hills and soft clay soil, the Walton track is known for its very deep ruts. Over the years we’ve witnessed some very entertaining battles on this famous track, and 2018 should be no different. With this being the final round of the series, the 250 Pro/Am and 450 class champions will be crowned. Walton Raceway is also deep with tradition, so once again the 450 class winner for the day will receive the coveted Walton Sword. Prior to Saturday’s pro national, Walton Raceway will also be hosting a five-day event called the TransCan. This gruelling event will feature amateur riders from right across Canada, and they will battle all week in various classes for the chance to become a Canadian Amateur National Champion. This event will be a great conclusion to the 2018 Rockstar Energy Triple Crown MXTour Series.
