PRESS RELEASE (Vaughan, ON – June 19, 2012)
Top of the box for Kiniry in Calgary Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry came out swinging at a windy Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary this past weekend to claim his first overall win of the season in the premier MX1 class. On the strength of 2-1 motos he ended archrival Matt Goerke’s first two rounds domination. Goerke was able to hold off Kiniry in moto one, but in the second an unleashed Kiniry could not be tamed. Points chase leader Goerke settled for second overall on the day thanks to 1-2 motos. In the first MX1 moto, Kiniry nailed down a top five start, putting his YZ450F solidly in the mix with the frontrunners. While battling for position to move from third into second he was a little overeager to clear the task and washed out his front end. This error would cost him six positions, but it was clear an on-fire Kiniry was going to pull out all the stops and make his way back toward the front. He powered his way from eighth to fifth in a few laps time and continued to mount a charge, picking off three more riders to claim the second place he had been after since the first few laps. With time running out he was unable to challenge Goerke for the lead, however, but the stage was set for moto two. Kiniry had served notice.
