Fears, Tears and Cheers! Some of the good news to come out of Kamloops this past weekend was the hard working results of the Yamalube Schrader’s SMX Racing rider Denaye Giroux. The current number 1 Women’s National rider was excited to get her series going. “ I’m prepared with all the great training I did in California this past winter and I’m ready to earn back my number 1 plate for the 2012 season,” said Giroux.

The second moto, of the high temperature day, saw Denaye just miss the hole shot but it didn’t take her long to pull out front. Number 19, Haily Larson, and Denaye battled back and forth for positioning for 3 laps. Finally Haily was able to pull away with the Yamaha 250 mounted Denaye Giroux taking a strong second place for second overall on the day. “Even though my SSS Suspension and Dunlop tires were hooking up and my Renegade fuelled Yamalube Schrader’s bike had everything I needed, my own conditioning wore on me a little. Look for me in my great TLD gear at Calgary to have a better showing!” said Denaye.

Shawn Maffenbeier quickly ate up the track, overtaking riders with his SSS Suspension and Dunlop tires sucking up the square edged craters. “Shawn was pulling so hard with his Renegade fuelled Schrader’s Yamaha, that he was doing wheelies down the back straight,” said owner/manager Jackie Maffenbeier. “Shawn had put himself into a solid 6th place when he hit neutral over the finish line with 2 laps left. The horrific crash left everyone on the team and the stands in shock. We would like to thank the doctor who attended on site, the paramedics, track personnel, Joe Skid and all concerned fans for their professionalism and assistance. Shawn was taken to the hospital where he underwent x-rays, CT Scans and blood work where he was pronounced with no broken bones or internal injuries. He has some extensive bruising on his back and tire marks from where the bike hit him and bruised ribs. He will be racing in Calgary as his injury permits.”

I had a much better start and was in 11th.” Said Robinson. “ In the 3rd lap I came around and hooked a sprinkler with my hand. I had a real tough time holding on for the rest of the motoand finished in 17th.” “ We are hoping Shawn Robinson’s hand heals enough for him to be able to hold onto the bike in Calgary,” said owner/manager Randy Maffenbeier. “He had lots to overcome this past weekend and we believe that Shawn will be able to be a top 10 rider this season.” Shawn Robinson finished 17th overall on the day putting him in 15th place for the series. Shawn Maffenbeier still sits in 16th place overall in the series.
