How does the Sea Pen work? The Sea Pen consists of a solid HDPE frame that we pump air in and out of to allow it float or sink so that you can get you boat in and out of the pen. To enter the Sea Pen the frame of the unit sinks under the surface allowing the pen to fill with water. All of the rope matt and skin of the pen falls away, well clear of the running gear of the boat, so you can drive all of the way into your berth. With the boat secured, we then pump air into the frame of the pen so that it floats up around the boat. The outside skin of the pen prevents any water getting in, creating an isolated pool of water that the boat is floating in. The water pump located inside the pen then pumps all of the water out. As the water is pumped out, the skin and internal rope mat slowly shrink-wrap around the hull and running gear of the boat. The internal woven rope mat is crucial to the boat being dry. It creates a barrier between the hull of the boat and the outside skin of the pen allowing water to drain down into the centre bilge cavity of the pen and creating an air pocket that the boat is floating on. Your boat is now completely dry ....floating on a layer of air. There’s range of sea pens available for almost every berthing configuration you have The Sea Pen will support all types of drives, from stern drives, to jet drives, outboards, surface drives and even IPS pod drives. Supporting a range of hull configurations from mono and multi-hulls to even keeled boats. In general, if it floats, we can keep it dry.
