Nominations This Month!

April, 2013

Your help needed to plan our Aerie Picnic Here’s a reminder to all Brothers and Sisters. Our Aerie Picnic will be held on the weekend of July 20 at the VFW Campground between Orting and South Prairie. Mark your calendars and make plans to come out this year for a weekend of fun, food and friends. As usual, we cannot put on such an event without your help. If anyone would like to volunteer to help out, it would be greatly appreciated.

From Your Madam President

A big thank you for all your help Happy Spring I can’t believe how time has flown by. This Eagle year is almost over. I want to say thank you to all the chairmen and helpers this year. A huge thank you to Cathi Mahan for raising monies for the Jimmy Durante Child Abuse Fund, and to Shireen Ainsworth for the Cancer Fund. You two Sisters rock! This month we will have nominations of officers for 2013-14. We would love to have new Sisters coming to the meetings and getting involved. The meetings are on the second and fourth Thursdays. Remember Laughter is the Best Kind Of Medicine. — Loni Andrews, Madam President

From Your Worthy President

Are you ready to step up and take the reins? My does time fly! It seems like only yesterday that I took my oath as Worthy President and here we are with only two more months left in the term. What that means Brothers is that it has come time to think on selecting our replacements. Do you have what it takes to be an officer of the Aerie? Are you free on Wednesday nights and have time to come down and support special events? Have you wondered how the Aerie spends its funds and makes decisions on how things are run? Are you willing to put an effort forth to have a positive impact on your Aerie and make it a better place for everyone? If so, perhaps you (or someone you know) could be and officer of Daffodil Aerie #2308. A big thank you to all those who made the District #7 Meeting at Daffodil a big success this year. At the Aerie meeting, we initiated 10 new Brothers and had a good round of discussion afterwards that has been missing from our past efforts. — Dave Andrews, Worthy President

Last call for vintage photos and stories!! Daffodil Aerie’s 75th Anniversary is approaching fast, so this is the last call for pictures, stories or items from the past that could be used in our upcoming celebration. So dig through those old boxes in the attic or talk to some friends who had parents or grandparents involved back in the day and lets see what we can find and preserve for generations to come. See page 5 for examples.

For ‘Da Kids’

Stenwick wins the big ‘Pot of gold!!!’

Bunco night was great thanks to the volunteers

The “Pot of Gold” was $2,700 and just waiting for the winners to claim it. Our March 3 Texas Hold’em winners are: First, Justin Stenwick; second, Laurie Carman; third, Tyler Tripp; fourth, Ray Randale; fifth, Mike Allen; sixth, Jay Sloan, seventh, Tom Price; eighth, Rory Hawkins; and ninth, Edgar Ramos. NO MORE LATE ENTRIES The next game is on Sunday, April 14 and there will be no more late entries. You must be there by 12:15 p.m. as the girls need to close the books and move on to other jobs. So. . . if you’re late you will be invited to come to the next month’s game. Sorry. We had six players show up at 12:25 p.m. to play. Please come down earlier.

RETURN YOUR BOUNTY CHIPS Please bring your bounty chips back. You know, the ones you forgot to turn in that are taking up space in your pockets.

ON THE MEND Judy Haley’s husband is doing great after his surgery. He is now in rehab. Get home soon, Richard. Our buddy Bubba is holding his own. Jeanne Cey had surgery and we hope to see you soon. Thanks to all the players for helping us with set up, tear down, chipping up, etc. You are all the greatest and we look forward to seeing you every month. To our regular crew, thanks again for your hard work. Thank you! — Bob Reynolds and the Texas Hold’em team (253) 535-6706

Eagle Brothers & Sisters, Thank you so much for your participation in our first annual Bunco event for the Jimmy Durante Child Abuse Fund. We managed to raise a nice “bill” $ for this event that was held on Friday, March 8 in our banquet room. Who would have know that more than 100 people could change tables so quickly! It was loud and busy and the dice were rolling. It appeared that everyone had a good time and some folks even made a new friend or two. Thank you so much to my committee members without whom we could not have pulled this off. Without their solicitation of raffle prizes, food and people, the event would have flopped. To Sarah McKee, Jayne Gregory, Madeline Gregory and Lauren Adler, thanks for your support for “Da Kids!” Another shout of thanks to my family, the Gregorys. You come, you play, you help clean up. — Cathi Mahan, Chairwoman Jimmy Durante Child Abuse Fund

‘Pop the Cork on Cancer’ was another great event!!

Another successful “Pop the Cork on Cancer” wine tasting event has come and gone! I hope you all had as much fun as we did. I’d like to thank everyone from our Club Manager, Loni and her staff, to the many friends who always are there to help out — and to all our supporters. Thank you, thank you, thank you! And to our wonderful group of cancer survivors, I was so happy to know you were coming out again this year! You have no idea how happy it makes us all to be raising funds for people, who like yourselves, are fighting this horrible disease! It is wonderful putting faces and stories to the reason so many of us work tirelessly for our many charities. Published monthly by the Puyallup, Washington This reaffirms the reason we do it. Daffodil Aerie #2308 Thank you to everybody who gave the many Fraternal Order of Eagles donations. Because we have so many giving memin the interest of Eagledom, for and about bers and friends, we will have a very nice check to the Eagles in the Daffodil Aerie. give to “Partner Oncology” in Puyallup this year!! 75th Anniversary Old photos, stories still needed We still need old photos or stories to make our “Looking Back” booklet for our upcoming 75th Anniversary celebration. As of writing this, I have only gotten a few photos. Please, if you think you have anything we could use, go through your old photo albums and send them in. Here are some examples of the types of photos we can use. Thank you! Daffodil Aerie 2308’s float in the Daffodil Parade.

Taken while Booth Gardner was Governor of the State of Washington from 1985 to 1993, this photo is entitled “Meeting the Governor.” From left are Paul Conner, Unkown, Mike Lagerval, Elmer Hyppa and Don Shadle. Governor Booth Gardner is seated. Gardner died on March 15.

Photo at right is of a 1970 fund-raiser for the “Albert Rosellini for Governor” campaign. In the back row are Jim Centoni, Ed Hamilton, “Junior” Van Pevenage, Bill Hume, John Caughill, and Larry Preston. In the front row are Kenny Rivard, United States Senator Henry ‘Scoop’ Jackson, Brian Wrenall, Judge Floyd Hicks, and John Van Pevenage. -5-
