Happy ! th July 4

July 2010

July is picnic time! This year’s Daffodil Eagles Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 24. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. in Bonney Lake at the Swiss Sportsman Club again. We have expanded our picnic area to include the large gazebo with all the covered picnic tables this year! We will be cooking up hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, curly fries, and fresh corn-on-the-cob! This year we will not run out of food or beer and will have plenty of shaded tables under the gazebo. There will be games and prizes for the kids and adults, a horseshoe tournament, raffles, and much more. There will be a $5 charge for all Eagle members, $2 for kids ages 6 through 20, and $7 for non-Eagle members. These charges are to help cover the costs of the food, drink, prizes and fee on the property. There are 80 RV hookups ($10 per night) and tent spaces ($5 per night) available, first come first served, starting on July 22 through 26. We have a DJ lined up for Saturday and will have a bonfire, with karaoke, Saturday night. Sunday morning, we will be cooking up French toast and ham with strawberries ($6) for breakfast! Last year, the donations for the raffles were outstanding. If you have an item to donate, please label it “For Picnic” and leave with Loni or Jackie. We were so blessed to have many Brothers and Sisters volunteer their time and energy last year, and we are asking for your assistance again. Anyone wishing to get involved, please contact your Picnic Chairpersons, Denny Sutter, Bill Bostwick or Pat Rivard.

From Your Madam President

We had a fantastic installation in May I would like to thank everyone who helped make our Installation of new Officers a special day on Sunday, May 23. The dinner was wonderful and I would like to thank Jim Anton and his crew for doing such a great job. Grand Worthy President Mike Lagervall, who is a duel member of Puyallup, will be having his homecoming at our club on Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17. This is a great honor for us to host this event. Let’s welcome him and show him how much fun we can have! We hope to see everyone at our club picnic on Saturday, July 24. This will be our second year at the Swiss Park. I am sure it will be bigger and better than last year. Our Auxiliary meetings are the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. This year I am having a theme for each month. The theme for the non-initiation meeting in July will be “Red, White & Blue.” I hope to see some new Sisters at our meetings. — Penny Fiedler, Madam President “We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.”

Taste a little wine Mark your calendars for Friday, July 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Come join the fun and meet new friends for tasting Washington wines. This will be upstairs in the meeting room and you must have a ticket to get in. You may get tickets from the bar, club manager, Secretary’s office or some of the Aerie and Auxiliary officers who will have them. The price is $12 per person and you keep the glass. All proceeds will go to the Diabetes Research Center.

Texas Hold’em

109 go for the pot in June’s tourney It was not a bad tournament on sunday, June 13 with weather as it was to do yard work, along with graduation ceremonies. One hundred nine entrants went after $2,725. The winners were: Dan Bachman, Dan Anglemeyer, Ryan Stone, Bill BenDixen, Jerry Fry, Billy Bostwich, Shane Kissner, Eric Strom and Gery Dee’. Don Royce, our 98-year-old player, has passed away. We are saddened and will miss him. The best to his family. Our next game is on Sunday, July 11. Bring a friend and be sure you have your Aerie membership card in your possession. See you in July. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308

Retired Eagles Activities Club

Is it summer yet? I can’t believe it’s July already. The weather has been so awful, it seems like winter lasted forever. We hope your Fourth of July is safe and you have lots of fun. We never go anywhere on holidays anymore. There is too much traffic and our patio is so beautiful and peaceful. We’d be fools to leave and buck the crowds.See you at our next meeting. — Joyce Louderback, Reporter

More recipes needed for our Eagles Cookbook!!! Our Eagles Cookbook project is coming along nicely. We have collected more than 250 recipes, but we need at least 200 more! Forms are available in the foyer of the club and there is a recipe drop box, as well. We’ve received some terrific recipes from both Aerie and Auxiliary members. If you prefer, you may email your recipes to mybrown29@gmail.com. Don’t forget to include your name and contact phone number if there are questions about your recipes.

Have A Safe & Happy Fourth Of July! -5-

Bazaar update

We packed ’em in at Packwood

Start thinking Christmas in July

During Memorial weekend our group gathered at several of the local campgrounds available in the Randle/Packwood area. Some of us stayed up near Tower Rock Campgrounds, while others were at the K & M Resort, Shady Firs Campground and Eagle Valley. As usual we never let the weather interfere with our fun. It rained off and on but we were still able to get out and enjoy the garage sales. On June 24-27, we were together for the Stevenson “Blues, Brew and BBQ” event that the town puts on. It’s a fun event with lots of good music, and local breweries and wineries from the area. Our group be stayed at the Timberlake Campgrounds, just a few miles outside of Stevenson. This outing was a good chance to come check out our group while having lots of fun in the process. Ray and Janet Newby will be our hosts for our Fourth of July get-together. They are situated in Sumner and have a couple of acres for all of our rigs. We always have a wonderful time at their home and even enjoy a show of fireworks. If you are still on the fence about joining our group here is a perfect opportunity to meet us without traveling too far. On June 2 our group said goodbye to one of our members, Walt Sorensen, who lost his fight with cancer. The Puyallup Eagles allowed all of us to gather one more time to remember our friend. We will miss you very much, Walt. — Sheron Mozzone, Secretary
