March 2010

Crabs & oysters on the menu again in March!! Last year in July at the Grand Aerie convention in Reno, Mike Lagervall from Ballard Aerie #172, became our Grand Worthy President. His year will be coming to an end and it is traditional that a “Homecoming” in his honor be held. Since Ballard Aerie does not have a home at present and Mike is a dual member in Puyallup, he has asked us to host his homecoming at our Aerie hall. On Sunday, March 7th we will be having a crab and oyster feed with the proceeds going to help defray the expenses of this event. You will get a crab and a half, cole slaw and garlic bread for $20. We will also have nickel beer. You can also have an oyster dinner with the usual trimming for $9. Tickets will be limited to 100 for the crab dinner and 100 for the oyster. You can get tickets at the Secretary’s office or from Loni or the bartender. They have been available since February 8. We expect that the homecoming will “pack the house” on July 17 and there will be guests from across the country. Any money raised that is not needed will go to the Diabetes Research Center. — Leonard Blakely, International Director of the Diabetes Fund — Ellen Blakely, Grand Aerie Mother

From Your Aerie President

It’s beginning to look like spring! Hello again Brothers and Sisters! Spring is almost here! The plants are starting to bud and the days keep getting longer. It won’t be long before we’ll see and hear the familiar things that spring brings — the sound of children playing, the smell of fresh cut lawns and the colors of flowers. All of these things remind us of how wonderful life can be. Our Aerie will be busy this month at our meetings. We’ll be hosting the District #7 Meeting on Sunday, March 14 at 10 a.m. If you ever had any thoughts of what happens at these meetings, you’re all welcome to attend. We’ll also be having a joint officers’ meeting for the Aerie on Wednesday, March 31. Soon we’ll be having nominations of officers for next year. If you think you might be interested, come to the meetings and check with the office to find out what positions will be up for election. We can always use new officers with new ideas for the future of the Eagles here in Puyallup. Lastly I would like to mention that we have a new cook in the kitchen. In addition, there is a project to replace the carpet, so let’s all keep supporting the Aerie. Thanks again for you advise and patience. — Fraternally, Jonas White, Aerie President

Spring Is About To Be Sprung!

Auxiliary membership is now near our quota!

Diabetes auction set

Hi Sisters. Here it is March already and what a terrific job you have done bringing in members to our Auxiliary. We are so near quota. We will have a dinner in April for all you who brought a new or re-enrolled member in from June 1, 2009 to April 1, 2010. Good luck to all of you and thank you from Madam President Loni and Membership Chairperson Kathy T. If you have questions, please call Kathy (253) 531-2397.

Daffodil Roamers News

We will again be having a silent auction on Sunday, March 7 with the oyster and crab dinner. If you would like to donate anything, we would really appreciate it. All the money will be going to the Diabetes Research Center in the name of Daffodil Aerie and Auxiliary. We will be so proud to know we have taken part in finding a cure for diabetes. It takes everyone to make this possible. Also anytime anyone wants to make a donation to any of the charities we support, you may do so to the Aerie or Auxiliary Secretary. — Ellen Blakely

We had another great time at Pacific Beach! We hope all our Brothers and Sisters had a happy Valentine’s day and remembered to tell their sweetheart or special friend how much you appreciate them. Well we’ve started out the new year by getting together out at Pacific Beach. We have been so lucky the last two or three years with having wonderful weather — lots of sunshine and very little rain. There was approximately 26 of us that either camped in our RVs or rented a house or motel room at the Naval Base. We took long walks on the beach, used the very large hot tub, played cards, went bowling and gathered for our regular potlucks. Some of us went to Ocean Shores to the casino while some took drives around the area. If you like ocean camping, we have planned a camp out at Hoodsport in April, Long Beach in July, and the Oregon coastline in September . Come join us and see how much fun we have together. Remember that our monthly meetings take place the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting hall. — Sheron Mozzone, Secretary, Daffodil Roamers RV Club

From your Aerie Trustees

From Your Madam President

Let’s start thinking Weekend cover about new officers! charge beginning \

Happy March!! As many of you know we have been doing raffles to replace the carpet in the lounge and front foyer. We would like to say thank you for purchasing tickets. Thank you again to all the volunteers who work everyday around the Aerie doing something. It is great!!! Starting the first weekend in March, we will have a $2 cover charge on Friday and Saturday nights. This will help us to pay for the music.

We had a great winter tournament at Sequim

Well Sisters, it is March already and time to start thinking about officers for the next year. I would like to say thank you to the Aerie Brothers who helped us out for the Grand Madam President’s visit. To all the other volunteers who helped that evening, thank you, too. We have District #7 Meeting here on Sunday, March 14. at 10 a.m. Hopefully we can get a good turnout of Daffodil members. We will be presenting the Eagle of the Year award to the Sister who has volunteered for not only the Auxiliary, but also for the Aerie. Come and see who she is. Please join us for our meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Remember, laughter is the best kind of medicine!! — Loni Andrews, Madam President
