Charter suspended, Aerie Trustees but we are still open We’re doing our best to get At the Aerie meeting on October 6, it was announced that the Aerie Charter was suspended effective October 4. The reasons for the suspension were: 1. President’s Duties. 2. Trustee’s Duties, and 3. Auditor’s Duties. One October 4 Mike Simonds, a state officer, was appointed as the agent in charge of Puyallup Aerie. This means that he has complete control of all Aerie matters and business. The Aerie is OPEN and running normally. The agent removed all current Trustees and appointed Buck Mann, Jerry Miller, Len Webster, Mike Sheffer and Mike Sader as the new trustees. Here’s the reason this all happened. A letter was written to the Washington State Local Aerie Advisor asking for help in our Aerie. It was pointed out in the letter that the Trustees were proposing house rule changes that would remove the Auxiliary from sharing in the Sunday breakfast proceeds and also change the way funeral luncheon proceeds are handled. However, the Auxiliary had nothing to do with writing the letter. I, as the Aerie Secretary, was asked to respond to questions asked on a two page “cursory audit” form, which I did. The State Aerie then voted to recommend to the Grand Aerie that the Charter be suspended. Since the Grand Worthy President, who is a member of our Aerie, was present that weekend, the suspension moved rather fast. Another factor that prompted the suspension was that an audit has not been performed since February of this year. The main reason I know what I do is that I am a Past State President and I attend all State Aerie Executive Board meetings. If you would like to read or would like a copy of the letter suspending our Aerie Charter, I would be glad to give it to you. If you have any questions please contact me at the Aerie office. I am normally there most days from around 8 a.m. until noon. — Leonard Blakely, Aerie Secretary
us through our tough times Hello Aerie Brothers and Auxiliary Sisters! Here’s a note from your new Aerie Trustees — Jerry Miller, Mike Sader, Buck Mann, Len Webster, and Mike Sheffer. Communication equals success — and success means getting our Aerie turned around and having our Charter reinstated! We are working hard at taking care of all the issues. Grand Aerie says we need to, so please, if you have questions about what’s going on, ask one of the Aerie Trustees. We will be glad to answer your questions as best as we can. We’re new at this, so please bear with us at this time. With your help and patience, we will get past this difficult time! Thank you! — Daffodil Aerie #2308 Board of Trustees
Attend our Auxiliary meetings and win big! Sisters, come to as many meetings as possible during the holidays in November, December and January. We will have a “Holiday Tree” for you to hang an ornament on every time you attend a meeting. At the end of those three months, the Sisters with the most ornaments on the tree win fabulous prizes! Come on out and join us for fun and informative meetings. Most meetings only run about an hour. Meeting dates are Nov. 11 and 18; Dec. 9 and 16 (State Madam President’s visit and our Auxiliary anniversary); and Jan. 13 and 27. One more thing: Current Auxiliary officers are not eligible to win, so please come decorate our tree! We hope to see you soon. — Karleen Howard Meeting Attendance Chairman

Daffodil Elves looking for your holiday help
From Your Madam President
‘Recipes from the Nest’ has arrived The new Aerie and Auxiliary cookbooks are here. This project has been in the works for several months. Both the Aerie and the Auxiliary have participated in getting 500 recipes from our club members. The cookbook is amazing. It is something we should be very proud of. I would personally like to thank Yvonne Brown for all of her hard work she has put into it. She has been dedicated to this project for many months. She has done an outstanding job and when you see her in the club, make sure you tell her what a great job she has done. We are hoping this will be one of our biggest fund-raisers. The cookbooks will be on sell at our Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, November 7. DECK THE HALLS I know Christmas seems far away, but it is just around the corner. Don’t forget that we will have “Deck the Halls” on the last Sunday in November, the 28th. This is the day that we bring the holiday spirit into our building and turn it into magic in just a day or less. I have always enjoyed coming into the club after the magic has happened! What a great feeling it brings!!! Remember Sisters that our meetings in November will be on the 11th and the 18th due to Thanksgiving. They start at 7:30 p.m. and are usually over before 9 p.m. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and remember the ones who are less fortunate. — Penny Fiedler, Madam President “The lives that have been the greatest blessing to others are very often the lives of those people who themselves were unaware of having been a blessing”

A special note of thanks I just would like to offer a quick thank you to all of our wonderful members for supporting Pumpkins for Cancer. As of this writing, we raised more than $500. Thank you again for helping in the fight to end this dreaded disease. I would also like to thank all of those who helped me with this. You know who you are. Eagles are the best! — Shireen Ainsworth

Cookbooks on sale Please help replace at Holiday Bazaar! the backbar floor!! Our remaining Puyallup Eagles Cookbooks will go on sale at our annual Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, November 7 — just in time for Christmas gifts! There will be a limited supply as most have already sold. Don’t miss out on these beautiful hard cover threering binder books with extended category tabs. Included are recipes from members who have passed away before the book was published, along with some history on our club. The books sell for $15 each and have 500 recipes. The proceeds from the sales will fund various charities that the Puyallup Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary contribute to. I would like to thank everyone at our club who contributed their delicious recipes. Special thanks to Calvin Larson for hauling 916 pounds of books for me in his flatbed truck; Linda Francis for her many hours helping to typeset the recipes; and to Debi Andersen who helped select our cover, tab dividers and recipe format along with helping staff our table at the club to sell the books. It is so heartwarming to see our Brothers and Sisters working together for a common cause. This is why I am proud to be a member of the Puyallup Eagles! Thank you. — Yvonne Brown, Cookbook Chairman

Here’s our holiday plans We are going to have turkey dinner with all the trimmings on Thursday, November 4 at the Aerie. All REAC members are invited. It will be a potluck, so if you haven’t attended a meeting for a while, come join in the fun. Our Christmas Luncheon will be at the South Hill Old Country Buffet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 2. If you need a ride, call Bernice or Joyce. We hope past members will also attend and join us for a good time. See you there! — Joyce Louderback, Reporter
Like all of us, our club is getting older and needs repairs. The floor behind the bar needs replacing and will be done this month for about $20,000. We are having a joint officers’ meeting to come up with ways to pay for this. So in the next few weeks if you see raffles and donation jars, please help. If any inner club or person would like to make a donation, that would be great.

Be sure to visit the Vietnam wall this month With so much going on in the world, we should all take time to thank our veterans. From Colonial times to present day operations, our veterans have served, continue to serve, and sacrifice for our great nation. This year we here in Washington have a great opportunity to witness one of the great tributes to our veterans. I am speaking or the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall. It will be in Auburn at Veterans Memorial Park (405 E. St. NE.) from November 4 through 7. It is open 24 hours a day. This memorial is truly awe inspiring as it is a small scale version, 80 per cent of the permanent memorial’s size, with 58,000 names of those who died in Vietnam. Originally for Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, Veterans Day would go through many resolutions and public laws to be recognized on November 11, no matter what day of the week it falls, since 1978. Veterans Day not only continues to preserve the historical significance of this date, but helps
focus attention to the purpose of Veterans Day. A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Many of our nations veterans, both men and women, from WW I to current operations, bear the scars, both physical and unseen, from their time in the service to our great nation in troubled times. As a veteran myself, I understand and say thank you, and stress the importance of remembering our veterans, both here and abroad, and helping those in need whenever possible. It has been forever linked to Vietnam, but the saying of “Never Forgotten” rings true for all who have served this great nation. Thanks to all of our veterans! — Jonas White, Junior Past Worthy President
Year’s biggest Texas Hold’em game coming up soon There’s only one month to go to qualify for the “Tournament of Champions” on December 12. Our game on October 10 had 101 players going for the nine spots that paid $2,225. The winners were: First, Roy Carriveau; second, Joe Miehiels; third, Vicki Fry; fourth, Marv Fleck; fifth, Eric Strom; sixth, Brad Stevens; seventh, Steve Boisert; eighth, Paul Thomas, Sr.; and ninth, Cathy Williams. This month’s Texas Hold’em game is set for Sunday, November 14. This is the last game of the year for qualifying for the big game in December. Good luck to all of you players. All players who are qualified for the December game must have your $100 turned in by the November 14 game. Failure to do so will allow us to draw another name. There’s a lot of work that goes into getting this game ready with 120 players. Please make it easy for us. Thanks to all the volunteers. You are all an important
piece that keeps the game going. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or 230-2308
Roamers winding down Fall has finally arrived and we enjoyed our last get-together in October at the Rest-A-While Resort on Hood Canal. As always everyone had a good time. Now it’s time for some of our snow birds to pack up and fly south, while the home bodies tuck in for the cooler weather that’s just around the corner. We will be have our Christmas get-together on Tuesday, December 7. We hope that if you are around you’ll come join us. It would be a good time to come meet us and see if you would like to become a part of the Daffodil Roamers RV Club. We are always looking for new members. Our Wagon Master assures us that he is putting together an exciting schedule for next year. Please have a safe and sound holiday season and be thankful for this wonderful country. — Sheron Mozzone, Secretary, Daffodil Roamers RV Club
