March, 2013 Membership Madness

March is the month to get new members During the entire month of March the Aerie and Auxiliary are running a “March Membership Madness Drive” and to sweeten the pot they are waiving the initiation fee! Now is the time to get your family and friends to join or rejoin! Do you have friends or family who are Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, Military Police, Military Firefighters, Correctional Officers, or Inactive Military? To show our appreciation, we offer a one-year complimentary membership with the Eagles under our “Those Who Serve” Program. Free! That’s right, free for the first year they join! Membership applications are available at the front counter/lobby area.

AERIE VS. AUXILIARY Remember — our Aerie vs. Auxiliary Challenge finalizes on Sunday, March 31. If the Aerie loses, Dave Andrews dresses like a woman, and if the Auxiliary loses, Loni Andrews wears Husky clothing (she’s a die-hard Cougar fan) on Sunday April 7! The first team to reach 50 new members wins the Challenge!

AERIE Special New Member $42. (normally $56.) AERIE Re-Join for $42. ( $10 re-join fee waived) AERIE/AUXILIARY Free first year for “Those Who Serve” Program AUXILIARY Special New Member $19. (normally $39) — Yvonne Brown, Auxiliary Membership Chairman — Gary Plumb, Aerie Membership Chairman

Mamosas, along with Easter basket raffles, will be going on, too. The breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Reservations will be available for groups of 10 people or more. Call our manager at (253) 845-5021, ext. 1 with your reservations. We hope to see you on Easter Sunday for breakfast. Thanks. — Your Past Presidents’ Club members

From Your Worthy President

A special thank you from the Kiser family

Our District #7 Meeting is on Sunday, March 10 The next District #7 Meeting is at Daffodil Aerie on Sunday, March 10. We hope to do an Initiation at the Aerie meeting, so Brothers, if you know of anyone interviewed who cannot make the Wednesday meetings, send them down on Sunday, March 10. Don’t forget our “Membership Challenge!” This is the last month to push toward our 50 new and reenrolled members by the March 31 goal. Remember, if the Aerie reaches 50, Loni Andrews, Auxiliary President and resident “Husky Hater,” will have to don the Purple and Gold. (Of course, should the ladies reach 50, I will have to wear a dress. Yikes!) So if you have a friend or relative you have in mind, bring them down and show them around. — Dave Andrews, Worthy President

Bottle, meat raffles to benefit our anniversary Daffodil Aerie’s 75th Anniversary Committee will have meat and bottle raffles on three Friday nights in March to help defray the cost of our Anniversary Week. The raffles will be held on the 15th, 22nd and 29th of March. If anyone would like to help by donating a bottle or meat, please bring them to the club and give your donations to Loni Andrews or Bob Ainsworth. Be looking forward to turning 75 in May. Thank you.

Corn Beef and Cabbage served on St. Pat’s Day! We are having our annual Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on St. Patrick’s Day. Sunday, March 17 from 3-6 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the bar for $10. Proceeds go to the “Rainy Day Fund.”

From the Kiser family, a special thank you for celebrating Bruce’s life on February 11 here at the Puyallup Eagles. A special thank you to Linda Miller and her “magnificent” memorial team — not to mention Loni, Jacki and Melissa. You all were special to Bruce and we could not have done it without you. Thank you! — Jill Kiser

‘Pop the Cork’

Cancer fund-raiser set for Saturday, March 23 “Pop the Cork on Cancer,” our wine event, is getting closer! As you read this newsletter, I am working away on etching the wine glasses. This time I hope to add the year on the glass. Tickets are on sale with Manager Loni or the bartenders. Bob and I will have some tickets for sale, too. We again are hoping for a huge turnout to sample some of the state’s best wines! It won’t matter if you are a sweet or a dry person, we will be sure to have something that is right for your taste! Tickets are $20. per person, which includes your wine glass, six tastes, a souvenir and a chance at the door prize. Tickets for additional tastes also will be for sale. We will have lots of snacks and raffle items — and it is sure to be a fun afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Stick around the club afterwards for dinner, drinks and dancing!! Remember, that all money raised stays in Puyallup to help those fighting cancer!! Salute! — Shireen Ainsworth, Auxiliary Cancer Chairman

Texas Hold’em

It was happy Valentines for nine February players Valentine’s Day came early for nine Texas Hold’em players at the February 10 game. Winners were: First, Johnny Gallagher II; second, Ted Staab; third, Scott Franz; fourth, Ante Matanovic; fifth, Carl Sandell; sixth, Jeff Clark; seventh, Donald Weeks; eighth, Glen Dunbar; and ninth, Wally Lochrie. We hope you bought your sweethearts something special. We had 88 players and it seemed like a lot more than that because our January game was so small. Everyone had a good time and we had no whining. Ha! Thanks players for all your support and help at the game. Without all of you we wouldn’t be having poker at the best Aerie. Kathy Buse, once again we missed you, but we understand. Judy Haley, thanks for your help and we hope that Richard gets better very soon. John Gal-

lagher is mending well, but has eight weeks of therapy to endure. Bubba, take care. We love you and miss you buddy. Thanks to our regular volunteers who, as usual, did a great job. I want to thank Susan Adams for the great job she is doing serving your lunch at the game along with all the special baked goodies. Richard Adams, I can’t begin to give you enough thanks for all you do to add to the game. It’s great having you join the team. Remember players, the next game is the first Sunday in March which is March 3. Thanks you! — Bob Reynolds & the Hold’em Team (253) 535-6706

I don’t know how we pull it off each year, but our trip to Pacific Beach was fantastic!!! There were bright blue skies and sunshine on Saturday. It was warm enough to sit around in our short sleeve shirts and bask in the sun. Of course the moment the sun went down it started getting chilly to let us know that it really is still winter. But boy was it a treat for just a 6:00 p.m. few hours. We didn’t despair, though. We packed up our potluck and moved into the clubhouse to have a pleasant dinner and card playing. 202 - 5th St. NW • Puyallup We’ll be off and running to Harstine Island the Tickets: Includes dinner, a game of Bunco, third weekend in March. As of writing this, I have only gotten three photos. Please, if you think you have anything we could use, go through your old photo albums and send them in.
