From Your Worthy President

From Your Madam President

Check out our many 2308 ‘internal clubs’

Scents of Scones and Fair Burgers fill the air

Brothers and Sisters, Thought I would mention a word or two this month about our “internal” clubs. We have several of these including the Duffers, Eagle Riders, Past Presidents’ and RV. It helps if you know how to golf to be in the Duffers, you don’t need to own an RV to be in the RV club, and you don’t need to own a motorcycle to be in the Eagle Riders. You do need to be a Past President to be in the Past Presidents’ Club. Feel free to attend any of these meetings. The dates and times are in the calendar. You will not have a voice or a vote in the meeting and if they are discussing something they deem “confidential,” you may be asked to leave. Also, you can attend Trustee Meetings and Joint Officer Meetings and the same rules would apply. If you have any questions not answered here, you can contact the Aerie Secretary and he can put you in contact with the chairman of that particular club. I hope you all had a great summer and will continue to support your Aerie and help it to keep growing. — Fraternally, Leonard Blakely, Worthy President

Western Night Coming September 21

As we head into September, I think of three things: Back to School, “The Puyallup/Washington State Fair,” and Western Days at our Aerie! Plus, we are having a Luau on Sunday, September 8! That sounds like fun time and I’m sure we will have a great turnout! On Thursday, September 19, come join us as we cook up Fair Burgers and fries at our Annual Fair Burger Contest against the Aerie! (We always win!!!) We had another great turnout of Sisters for our August Initiation meeting! There were more new and returning smiling faces. It isn’t a bad way to spend part of a Thursday evening! We actually do have a good time! The Aerie and Auxiliary returned from Grand Convention last month with awards for membership — the Auxiliary was third in the nation and first for Cancer! Great job! Enjoy the month. There are lots of things going on, so watch your newsletter, calendar, and announcements at the Sunday drawings! Let Your Light Shine! — Robin Sheffer, Madam President

Aerie needs a new Trustee The Aerie has a vacancy on the Board of Trustees due to a resignation. If you are willing to serve the remainder of a one-year term ending on May 31, 2014, please contact Worthy President Leonard Blakely at: blakely2308@live.com or call (253) 318-5223 for a job description and with your qualifications. Thank you.

Saturday, September 21

Western Night back at the #2308 ranch!! Daffodil Aerie’s Western Night will be on Saturday, September 21, so get your boots and hats out for a night of fun. There will be prizes for the best dressed. We again will have “get out of jail free” tickets for sale, so the sheriff can’t get you. In addition, we will have some other surprises. All money raised will go to the Aerie All Charity Funds. Dinner is good old western pot roast.

Luau coming to Daffodil On Sunday, September 8, Daffodil Eagles will host a Luau from 3 to 6 p.m. Included on the menu are barbeque pork sandwiches, cole slaw, fruit trays, and pineapple cake or coconut pie. Pre-sale tickets are $9 each. They will be $10 on the day of the event. Get your tickets early. Come dressed for the Luau. There will be prizes for the best luau attire. There will be a special drink of the day. Look for a day of fun.

‘Do the Puyallup’ with your Daffodil RV friends

Stay tuned for our new microphones! Brothers and Sisters, the Aerie has voted to purchase lapel microphones for use during meetings upstairs. The eight microphone system will allow all chair officers, the Secretary and Treasurer and Trustees to be heard better. To those of you who have stopped coming to meetings because you can't follow what’s being said, please stay tuned. With any luck, the new system should be up and running by the first meeting in October. — Dave Andrews, Junior Past Worthy President.

Sign-ups start Sept. 4

Leavenworth bus trip set for September 28! Sign-ups start on Wednesday, September 4 for a bus trip to the Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival in Leavenworth on Saturday, September 28. You can sign up starting at 7 p.m. on the Aerie dance floor. Tickets will cost approximately $38 per person. This is a one-day trip. The bus departs about 9 a.m. on the 28th so we can make it to Leavenworth in time for the grand parade at noon. There will be a stop-over at an Aerie on the way home. See you on September 4! — Karleen Howard & Kathy Crouchet Aerie Bus Trip Chairmen

Well, there is no more “Do the Puyallup,” but heck pardner, we can “do the camping” just fine. We’re off to Prosser this month to enjoying some of that fine vino, micro brews, farmers market and a lot of fun stuff. We round up, do the chuck wagon bit and scatter to parts unknown only to be rounded up and sent back to pasture for another month. October will have us at Harstene Island for the chow down. We’ll be enjoying the fresh fish and oysters, plus the beautiful sunsets and mellow friends. Published monthly by the Puyallup, Washington Come on down to the Aerie on the first Tuesday Daffodil Aerie #2308 night of the month and enjoy the chuck wagon, Fraternal Order of Eagles then stick around for an enlightening meeting of in the interest of Eagledom, for and about fellow campers. We look forward to seeing you on the Eagles in the Daffodil Aerie. the trail. P.O. Texas Hold’em

111 players vie for August title What a great day for a Texas Hold’em game. On Sunday, August 11, we were happily surprised to have 111 players vie for one of nine money pots. The lucky winners are: Chris Wheelers, Tony Fraley, Haven Silver, Donna Dilger, Andy Gee, Mark Hines, Scott Norris, Bruce Howard and Travis Longenecker. Thanks again to all the “over-the-bridge” players who help support our game. Port Orchard has games on Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. And you are invited to attend and enjoy the fellowship and hopefully win a couple of dollars. They are very friendly and fun Brothers and Sisters. Thanks once again to all our valuable volunteers who are so much valued and loved. We could not survive without your help. Judi Schlien was new helper and did a great job. Our next game is on sunday, September 8 at 12:30 p.m. and you must sign in before 12:15 p.m. Players you did a great job of showing up a little early for the sign-in. Thank you, thank you and thank you! It sure helps the ladies with the process. Thanks you again. — Bob Reynolds & the Hold’em Team (253) 535-6706
