Yew Tree Gallery
Now open, though preferably by prior booking, this long established gallery on the coast between St Ives and St Just, is showing ‘SEEING THE LIGHT’ in September and October. A reflection on our current times as much as the artists’ interpretation of light, this show offers a welcome lifting of the spirits. Internationally recognised for the expertise and beauty of his lustreware ceramics, SUTTON TAYLOR has again defied the limitations of the kiln in his exquisite new collection of bowls, bottles and vases in singing colours. MICHAEL SHEPPARD’s subtle, luminous oil paintings give an abstract view of the transforming aspect of light on solid objects. The glass roof of gallery II adds brightness to SAUL CATHCART’S mixed media plein-air paintings and LESLEY BIRCH’s atmospheric oils, many based on her visits to the Scottish Isles. LAUREL KEELEY traces field furrows and land contours in her stoneware ceramics, and glassmakers ANDREW SANDERS & DAVID WALLACE show colourful vases and bowls as well as finely shaped wine glasses. SARAH DREW’s jewellery incorporates beach findings as well as eco-silver and pearls, and GUY ROYLE’s new necklaces, bangles and earrings are more sumptuous than ever! Any Yew Tree exhibition would be incomplete without JOHN MALTBY’s fascinating ceramic sculptures. A brand new collection will soon be on the website. New slate tables and bird baths by HELEN NOCK have just arrived for the garden too. Plenty to enjoy in this exhibition!
