GENERAL INFORMATION CCDSummer Programs are located on Cincinnati Country Day School’s beautiful 62-acre campus. The campus features expansive athletic fields, woods, two gymnasiums, 25-meter 6-lane swimming pool, performing arts theater, all-weather track, three multi-age playgrounds, dining facility, and a 7-court tennis complex. Whatever your interests — from technology, sports, or acting to day camps — CCDSummer programs offer opportunities for children ages 18 months – adults. Programs run during the months of June through August. Course offerings and day camps have been scheduled to allow you to develop a summer schedule full of excitement, fun, and personal growth! • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Class sizes are limited. A $25 non-refundable registration fee is required of all participants. Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to CCDS. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express are accepted. Courses not meeting minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation. Registrants will be refunded full course fee. Cancellations must be submitted in writing 14 days prior to the start of a session. Cancellations made prior to 14 days of a session will receive 90% reimbursement. Cancellations made within 13 days or fewer of a session will forfeit their fee. No program fee refunds are available for withdrawals for any reason, including illness, within two weeks of the program start date. Non-CCDS students must complete an Emergency Medical Authorization Form. Day camp and Summer PE registrants must have a Student Medical Records Form on file prior to the first day. Forms will be emailed or mailed with the confirmation or are available online at www.countryday.net/go/summer . Current CCDS students are exempt. The lower school building and a designated area in the Dining Terrace are zoned “nut-free” to accommodate those with severe nut allergies. DAY CAMP Cincinnati Country Day School Summer Programs is known for being one of the top day camps in Cincinnati. Children 18 months through entering sixth grade are led by degreed and experienced teachers who provide engaging activities that promote growth and success, encourage discovery, and create a community that instills a strong sense of self. Our beautiful 62-acre campus offers learning opportunities both inside and out. Our nurturing classroom environments promote exploration and collaboration. Manipulatives and materials offer endless possibilities for learning, creativity, and imagination. Day camps take place over an eight-week period with flexible summer scheduling options available. All campers are offered healthy snacks. Campers enrolled in morning with lunch or all-day programs are offered a nutritious lunch. Optional after camp care is also available. PROGRAMS Toddler, Age 3, Age 4 and Kindergarten Groups Destination Discovery camps encourage exploration and creativity through developmentally appropriate open-ended activities. Extensions of these activities emerge from questions and interests as each camper constructs his/her learning experiences. Our teachers prepare a rich and nurturing environment that supports exploration and collaboration. Manipulatives and materials offer endless possibilities for learning, creativity, and imagination. Toddler campers do NOT have to be toilet trained. Campers MUST be toilet trained to participate in the Preschool and Kindergarten groups. Emergency Medical Authorization and Student Medical Record Forms required.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE Toddler, Age 3, Age 4, and Kindergarten groups choose from morning, morning with lunch or all-day programs, 3 or 5 days per week. Weekly option registration is offered (excluding new students in the Toddler group). To allow for age-appropriate transitions, toddlers who were not enrolled at CCDS for the current school year must register for one or both four-week sessions.

Group placement is based entering grade/program for the 2016-2017 school year or age by June 1st. A $25 non-refundable registration fee is required for all participants. Payment in full is due at the time of registration. Checks should be made payable to CCDS. MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express are accepted. Cancellations must be submitted in writing 14 days prior to the start of a session. Cancellations made prior to 14 days of a session will receive 90% reimbursement. COURSES Sorted: Academic, Arts, Athletic CCDSummer Program courses offer week long (half or full day) academic, arts, and athletic options specifically created to provide a variety of experiences for preschool age campers to adults. These courses provide an opportunity for participants to create a variety of unique experiences over the summer. The varied schedules allow campers to tailor a full summer geared towards interests or simply enjoy a wide variety of experiences.

With this exposure to the Mandarin Chinese language, participants will be able to understand and have simple conversations, apply the rules of basic Chinese character and Pinyin writing and build a vocabulary base. Classes will be high energy, interactive, and fun – not a traditional lecture-based language course! Topics will continue and develop into other languages like SmallBasic, Python, and Web Development. At the end of this course, participants will complete several working software titles including games and their own educational software. (Students can use their CCDS tablet or will be provided a tablet for the duration of the week.) Young engineers will fly kites, make complex paper airplanes, explore NASA approved lessons using Stomp Rockets, create intricate origami paper structures, and make indestructible bubbles. Geometry (GEO) Grade 10 Dates: 6/13/2016 - 7/14/2016 (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays) No camp 7/4/2016 Times: 9 am - 1 pm Instructor: Catherine Phillips, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $2400 Description: The primary focus of this course is geometric investigation, hypothesis formation and proof. This is the first course where students are introduced to the formal nature of mathematical proof. The major topics in the course are: congruence, similarity, circles, polygons, parallelism, area, and volume. Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: This full-length Geometry course meets the 1 credit Geometry requirement at Cincinnati Country Day School. Failure to meet the course requirements listed below may result in a student not earning credit. Course Structure: This course will combine an online curriculum with classroom work. Classes will meet three days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) a week for a total of 15 classes. Students are expected to spend 1 hour completing the online curriculum for every 1 hour of class time. This fast-paced course requires a minimum of 12 hours of online work each week in addition to in class time. Course Requirements: In order to receive credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must spend a minimum of 120 total hours (classroom and online) on course work. • A student must earn a final grade of a C- or higher. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval).

Health Studies (HSC) CCDS 9th graders may not take this course. Grades 9 - 12 Dates: 6/20/2016 - 7/1/2016 Times: 9 am - Noon Instructor: Rachel Corwin, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $800 Description: Students participating in this course will explore various aspects related to physical, psychological, and emotional health as stipulated by the Ohio Department of Education. As time permits, the course will include the following areas of study, which are mandated by the State: • The nutritive value of foods, including naturally and organically produced foods, the relation of nutrition to health, and the use and effects of food additives • The harmful effects of and legal restrictions against the use of drugs of abuse, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco • Sexually transmitted disease education • Dating violence prevention Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: Students who successfully complete the summer health course earn .5 credit, which satisfies the requirements set forth by the State of Ohio. In order to receive course credit, 60 contact hours are required of students. Failure to meet the course requirements below may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Course Structure: This course will combine an online curriculum with classroom work. Students are expected to complete the online component independently during the weeks of June 20 and June 27. More information about the online requirements will be explained during the first classroom session. The summer health course is intensive. It includes all material covered during a full semester. Students are required to complete numerous assignments, including a comprehensive final exam. There is also a research component to the course.


Course Requirements: In order for student to receive credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must spend a minimum of 60 total hours (classroom and online) on course work. • A student must earn a C- (70%) or higher for the course. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval).

Lego Mindstorms (LMS) Grades 4 - 8 Dates: 7/18/2016 - 7/22/2016 Times: 9 am - Noon Instructor: Elissa Michalski, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $225 Description: Using NXT technology, build and program LEGO robots that you bring to life! This exciting hi-tech course teaches science, technology, engineering, and math skills in an engaging, hands-on approach. Participants will explore their unique creativity while learning new skills in teamwork, problem solving, mechanics, spatial reasoning, and much more. Building, exploring and programming will be focused on through real-life challenges. As the course progresses, participants will build on their robotic knowledge to create a robot of their own, designed to solve a problem or serve as a kinetic work of art! Topics covered will include: efficient and effective note-taking strategies, memorization strategies, organizing text and new information, summarizing new information and class notes, verbal and written techniques for note-taking, studying, and test taking strategies. Additionally students will be exposed to a variety of techniques for organizing and planning studying times and learning how to plan ahead to manage work time independently. We will discuss topics such as summer reading projects, preparing for tests throughout the year, and planning for college entrance exams. Working from imagination, memory, and observation, students will build a portfolio and critique skills with an emphasis on understanding the communicative powers of visual expression. Students will learn and use basic vocabulary of the artist, the elements and principles of design, and will be introduced to the work of selected artists as frequent models for class assignments. Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: Students who successfully complete Art I will earn .5 credit. Failure to meet the course requirements below may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Course Structure: This course runs during a five week period meeting three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) a week. Students will meet 12 hours each week for a total of 60 hours. Projects will be graded using a unique rubric based on technical and aesthetic performance. Wet and Wild Water Adventure (WWW) Grades 1 - 3 Dates: 7/25/2016 - 7/29/2016 Times: 9 am - Noon Instructor: Prissy Schoeny and Meghan Graves, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $150 Description: Come play with and investigate water in this tons of fun, physically engaging, and mentally challenging wet and wild water adventure. Campers will use their creativity, exploration and imagination through water, art, science, and engineering. From carving an ice sculpture to building a water balloon launcher, campers will leave a lot wetter than they came. Get suited up and ready to soak up some fun, friendship, and soggy memories.

Cancellations made prior to 14 days of a session will receive 90% reimbursement. Cancellations made within 13 days or fewer of a session will forfeit their fee. There are no pro-rated fees for campers leaving before its completion or missing time during camp. In general no food service is offered, but a few courses do include lunch. Courses will be closed on Monday, July 4 in honor of Independence Day. CCDSummer Programs has partnered with University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department (CCM Prep), Challenger Sports, and Princeton Review. COURSES FOR CREDIT Cincinnati Country Day School offers several courses for high school credit. These courses are open to students from both public and private schools. If a student is not enrolled at Cincinnati Country Day School, permission to enroll in one of our academic credit courses must be approved through the student’s current school administration prior to enrolling in the course. Students must meet the course requirements as outlined in the description in order to receive credit. Grades and/or evaluations will be forwarded to other schools upon the completion of the course. Art I Geometry Health Studies Summer PE

Art I (ART) Grades 9 - 12 Dates: 6/14/2016 - 7/21/2016 (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) Times: 8 am - Noon Instructor: Carole Lichty-Smith, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $1200 Description: Art I is a general art course for credit providing beginning students the opportunity to explore twodimensional media including drawing, painting, collage and glass. Working from imagination, memory, and observation, students will build a portfolio and critique skills with an emphasis on understanding the communicative powers of visual expression. Students will learn and use basic vocabulary of the artist, the elements and principles of design, and will be introduced to the work of selected artists as frequent models for class assignments. Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: Students who successfully complete Art I will earn .5 credit. Failure to meet the course requirements below may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Course Structure: This course runs during a five week period meeting three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) a week. Students will meet 12 hours each week for a total of 60 hours. Projects will be graded using a unique rubric based on technical and aesthetic performance. Course Requirements: In order to receive .5 credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must spend 60 total hours on course work. • A student must earn a final grade of a C or higher. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval).


Geometry (GEO) Grade 10 Dates: 6/13/2016 - 7/14/2016 (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays) No camp 7/4/2016 Times: 9 am - 1 pm Instructor: Catherine Phillips, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $2400 Description: The primary focus of this course is geometric investigation, hypothesis formation and proof. This is the first course where students are introduced to the formal nature of mathematical proof. The major topics in the course are: congruence, similarity, circles, polygons, parallelism, area, and volume. Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: This full-length Geometry course meets the 1 credit Geometry requirement at Cincinnati Country Day School. Failure to meet the course requirements listed below may result in a student not earning credit. Course Structure: This course will combine an online curriculum with classroom work. Classes will meet three days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) a week for a total of 15 classes. Students are expected to spend 1 hour completing the online curriculum for every 1 hour of class time. This fast-paced course requires a minimum of 12 hours of online work each week in addition to in class time. Course Requirements: In order to receive credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must spend a minimum of 120 total hours (classroom and online) on course work. • A student must earn a final grade of a C- or higher. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval). Health Studies (HSC) CCDS 9th graders may not take this course. Grades 9 - 12 Dates: 6/20/2016 - 7/1/2016 Times: 9 am - Noon Instructor: Rachel Corwin, CCDS Faculty Course Fee: $800 Description: Students participating in this course will explore various aspects related to physical, psychological, and emotional health as stipulated by the Ohio Department of Education. As time permits, the course will include the following areas of study, which are mandated by the State: • The nutritive value of foods, including naturally and organically produced foods, the relation of nutrition to health, and the use and effects of food additives • The harmful effects of and legal restrictions against the use of drugs of abuse, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco • Sexually transmitted disease education • Dating violence prevention Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Course Credit: Students who successfully complete the summer health course earn .5 credit, which satisfies the requirements set forth by the State of Ohio. In order to receive course credit, 60 contact hours are required of students. Failure to meet the course requirements below may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Course Structure: This course will combine an online curriculum with classroom work. Students are expected to complete the online component independently during the weeks of June 20 and June 27. More information about the online requirements will be explained during the first classroom session.


The summer health course is intensive. It includes all material covered during a full semester. Students are required to complete numerous assignments, including a comprehensive final exam. There is also a research component to the course. Course Requirements: In order for student to receive credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must spend a minimum of 60 total hours (classroom and online) on course work. • A student must earn a C- (70%) or higher for the course. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval). Summer Physical Education See Camp Codes Below Grades 9 - 12 Session I (SPEI): 6/6/2016 - 6/17/2016 Session II (SPEII): 6/20/2016 - 7/1/2016 Times: 9 am - 3:30 pm Instructor: Steve Conner, CCDS Faculty Fee: $425 per session Description: This course for credit focuses on the importance of maintaining a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. This course will teach the importance of physical activity through various stages of life, whether it be for health, enjoyment, or competition. Participants will develop and demonstrate skills through a variety of physical activities that meet the Ohio Department of Education Physical Education Standards. Non-CCDS students should check with their school to determine if the course is accepted for credit prior to registering. Lunch is provided. Course Credit: Students who successfully complete one two week session of Summer PE will earn .25 credit. Failure to meet the course requirements below may result in the student not receiving credit for the course. Course Structure: Each session runs for a two-week period meeting for 6.5 hours a day. The curriculum covers basketball, flag football, golf, leisure activities, racquet sports, soccer, softball, volleyball, and exercise. Course Requirements: In order for student to receive credit for this course, the following requirements must be met: • A student must complete 60 hours of class time. • A student will receive both a letter grade and a pass/fail grade. • A student may miss no more than 1 class meeting (with instructor’s approval). Course enrollment will be evaluated 30 days prior to the start date to determine if enrollment is sufficient for the course to proceed.
