Ed Huff Jr., new first vice president of the Ohio Township Association, makes introductions at the recent winter conference. He said there were close to 2,000 people in attendance not to mention 3,000 in attendance for the trade show, which was a record.
ANSONIA — Ed Huff Jr., a Darke County Brown Township trustee, was named first vice president of the Ohio Township Association (OTA) at its annual winter conference Feb. 5-8 in Columbus. The winter conference is held each year to further the education of township officials and provide a forum in which they may exchange ideas. With more than 90 educational workshops,
a tradeshow with more than 150 vendors and several networking events, the winter conference is an opportunity for OTA members to advance their knowledge of townships in Ohio. Others elected to their offices were: Tim Lynch (Seneca County), president; Scott Fabian (Jefferson County), second vice president; and Ron Miller (Crawford County, secretary/treasurer, all of whom have or generally attend Darke County functions related to the township association. Miller, Fabian and Huff ran
unopposed in the election at the conference, while Lynch defeated Linda Bowers (Medina County) for the top seat. “I am honored to continue serving Ohio’s townships through election to the 20-member OTA Board of Directors,” Huff said. “Working for the people through township government motivates me to preserve and defend township government.” As an officer of the board, Huff will assist in managing the OTA, See HUFF | 4A

GREENVILLE – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) staff traveled to Greenville to meet with Ohio veterans. Veterans from Darke County attended the roundtable and Brown’s office organized the roundtable with the Darke County Veterans Service Office. Brown’s office will take the veterans’ priorities back to Washington, where the senator sits on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee. As Sen. Brown’s office continues to convene roundtables with Ohio’s veterans, Brown recently participated in a Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing regarding the implementation of the VA MISSION Act and Veterans Community Care Program (VCCP). Brown raised concerns regarding possible budget deficits at VA medical facilities and how that might impact veteran care. Previously he had pushed the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to implement community care standards for the VCCP as soon as possible to ensure consistent care for our nation’s veterans. VCCP was created by the VA MISSION Act to consolidate VA’s community care authorities into one easy to access program for veterans, so that they could decide with their VA provider how best to access timely quality care. Implementing across-the-board community care standards will help ensure Ohio veterans have access to the best care, whether they visit a VA medical facility or a
