Lakes
Branson Jet Boats Showboat Branson Belle
B
ranson and the Ozark Mountains first gained fame in the early 20th Century with publication of the novel, Shepherd of the Hills. While seeking out the beautiful rolling hills about which they had read, they also found great fishing in the peaceful valleys between those hills. The White River, which begins and ends in Arkansas and meanders through Missouri, quickly became a favorite spot of tourists. Many early visitors loved the Ozarks so much that they moved here (and still do), and soon the need for electrical power compelled the construction of hydro-electric dams. The construction of six dams on the White River has transformed fishing and life in the Ozarks. Six beautiful and diverse lakes can today be found in the White River Basin, and three of them are in the immediate Branson area. Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals Lake are all popular among fishermen, boaters, swimmers, and those seeking fun in the sun. Lake Taneycomo was created in 1913 with the construction of the Powersite Dam a few miles downstream from Branson. The cold-water lake, which has the personality of a river, is today stocked with over half a million trout annually, making it one of anglers’ favorite spots in the U.S., though, fishing is not the only adventure to be found on
Taneycomo. Visitors to Branson love to explore the river on one of Main Street Lake Cruises or get wet on the exciting Branson Jet Boats. Table Rock Dam was a marvel when it was constructed in 1958. At over 6400 feet long, it was then the longest dam in the world. The depth of the water at the dam averages 250 feet. When the gates are fully open, the dam releases 500,000 cubic feet per second (or about 3.76 million gallons). The dam is not the only wonder to behold on Table Rock Lake. Visitors and locals alike enjoy boating on the lake which boasts 750 miles of shoreline. The lake is known for its record-setting bass, but fishermen also enjoy catching crappie, catfish, bluegill, and perch. Boats and pontoons can be rented at many marinas around the lake, including State Park Marina near the dam. Scuba divers love exploring the lake. Visitors and locals alike enjoy the shows of the Showboat Branson Belle, a paddleboat that offers world-class shows and meals. Many guests love to swim at Moonshine Beach. Nearly everyone stops
at the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center next to the dam to learn both the history and current conditions on the lake. Downstream from both Table Rock Lake and Taneycomo, Bull Shoals Lake offers a more rustic atmosphere. Its waters may be entered a few miles east of Branson near Forsyth. Christmas
T
he Christmas season is truly magical in Branson. Beginning November 1, Branson is transformed into a stunning Christmas wonderland. From millions of lights dazzling in the Ozarks to Christmas trees everywhere you look, it is easy to get into the Christmas spirit. Numerous Branson Christmas shows take place offering guests a classic Christmas experience. Guests will hear timeless classics as well as the fun Christmas songs that everyone has fun singing along with. Branson offers three Christmas light drive-thrus. Most major cities don’t even offer this. One of our favorites is Lights
of Joy, featuring over 300 Christmas light displays and dancing light tunnel. An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City is a favorite. Several Broadway style shows are offered. Guests can also ride the train where everyone is encouraged to sing along to some of the most popular Christmas carols. While on the train, guests can get a view of the 6.5 million lights around the park while also getting to hear the Christmas story told through lights. Delicious Christmas treats and a live nativity scene are also found in the park during Christmas. Branson also offers some of the best Christmas stores. here are more than 14,000 lodging units in the tri-lakes area ranging from four star resorts, to establishments on world-famous Highway 76 and with amenities to include hot breakfasts, indoor pools, hot tubs, and more. No matter your group’s budget or lodging preference, Branson has something for everyone. When planning a trip there are two things that are a must, you must have a place to eat and you must have a place to sleep. The importance of selecting the best hotel is much more than a bed to sleep in; it can set the tone for the whole trip. Imagine upon check in at the hotel, several of your guests have to change rooms due to smell, unclean or noisy rooms, that sets a negative tone for the trip. Now imagine checking into a friendly, well maintained and organized hotel, that could set you up for success for the rest of the trip. The following are some items to remember when selecting a hotel.
Hotel Selection Tips Location—the proximity when it comes to shows, attractions and dining to the hotel can make a trip spectacular.

Trip-Planning Tips
P
lanning a trip well in advance will give you enough time to take care of all the details and promote it to your potential audience. Here are some thoughts as you begin.
Determine the Purpose Whether it be a trip for a specific season, type of group or event to be attended, understanding the purpose sets the groundwork for any details and promoting the trip.
Determine the Audience & Date As an example if you are looking to promote a trip to churches then the itinerary would include an anchor show/ event which also could be date specific. Hint: If your dates are flexible there might be some money saving opportunities with shows, attractions and lodging during slower seasons.
50
Select Lodging Once you have selected the date based on audience, shows, attractions etc, secure your lodging.
Decide Budget or Price Point Once you have identified your audience, dates and lodging you can decide the number of nights and begin building an itinerary that meets the budgetary needs of your group type.

OTM interview with Dennis Schultz - Valley Travelers/Valley Church OTM: How many years have you been bringing groups to Branson? DS: “We began bringing groups to Branson in 2013 and have continued to do so at least once each year. Our trips normally include four evenings and three full days in the city. Each trip has been unique and somewhat different from the year before. OTM: What is the main reason you bring groups to Branson? DS: “Some of the things we love about
our Branson trips are the wholesome entertainment, the affordable and inspiring live shows, the wide variety of shows available and the family focus regarding the entertainment. Equally important is the safe environment in Branson and the outgoing and helpful attitude of our hosts while there. The accommodations (eating, sleeping, shopping) are great and our travelers always enjoy the natural beauty of the Ozark Mountain area as we travel to and from by motorcoach.”
arrangements. I have learned that the quality of each trip is a large part of the advertising one needs for the next trip.”
OTM: What is your favorite memory from a recent group trip to Branson? DS: “My favorite memories as a tour leader is listening to the travelers share the positive experiences they have had during the week with each other on the way home. The variety of venue items helps provide satisfying experiences for everyone involved. Individuals in our groups have developed lasting relationships while enjoying the various events, the restaurants and the sleeping
