What’s New & Who’s Where? JESUS at Sight and Sound Theatres

S

huffling Shows

Each year Branson takes part in what has become known as the “Branson Shuffle.” The Branson Shuffle happens when shows change their venue. Some years there may be a couple of shows that change theaters, but there are times when numerous shows change where they are located and even the days and times that their show is scheduled. You’ll also find several entertainers that change where they perform. For the 2021 season, fewer shows have moved locations. The Texas Tenors and Illusionist Rick Thomas: Mansion of Dreams have moved to the Mickey Gilley-Grand Shanghai Theatre. Most shows are open, but there are a few that have not resumed since the COVID-19 shutdown. In 2020, SIX, The Johnson Strings, The Blackwoods, and Doug Gabriel all moved to different theaters.

New Shows You might think that, because of COVID-19, there would be nothing new happening in Branson. Nothing could be further from the truth. With an entertainment community ready to share their talents and get back on stage, there are plenty of new shows to discover in Branson. Here is a list of several new shows for 2021. • Awesome 80s • Back To The Bee Gees

• British Invasion • Chris Stanley’s Comedy Magic Hour • Comic Book Heroz • Country Evolution with Dalena Ditto • Dancing in the Streets • Dancing Queen • Dean Z - The Ultimate Elvis • Doowop and the Drifters • Escape Reality Magic and Dinner Show Featuring Gary And Janine Carson • From Broadway to Hollywood to Branson • Hughes Brothers Country Dinner Show • James Taylor & Soft Rock of the 70s and 80s • Legends In Country • Melody Hart Family Show • Nashville Roadhouse Live • Pierce Arrow Country • RE-VIBE • JESUS at Sight and Sound Theatre • Funny Farm Dinner Feud at Shepherd of the Hills • The Man In Black, A Tribute To Johnny Cash • The Music, Humor & Stories of a Baby Boomer - Starring Steve Moris • The Sons Music Celebration Be sure to check out the limited engagements listed on page 28 for more special shows.

Lakes

Showboat Branson Belle

B

ranson and the Ozark Mountains first gained fame in the early 20th Century with publication of the novel, Shepherd of the Hills. While seeking out the beautiful rolling hills about which they had read, they also found great fishing in the peaceful valleys between those hills. The White River, which begins and ends in Arkansas and meanders through Missouri, quickly became a favorite spot of tourists. Many early visitors loved the Ozarks so much that they moved here (and still do), and soon the need for electrical power compelled the construction of hydro-electric dams. The construction of six dams on the White River has transformed fishing and life in the Ozarks. Six beautiful and diverse lakes can today be found in the White River Basin, and three of them are in the immediate Branson area. Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals Lake are all popular among fishermen, boaters, swimmers, and those seeking fun in the sun. Lake Taneycomo was created in 1913 with the construction of the Powersite Dam a few miles downstream from Branson. The cold-water lake, which has the personality of a river, is today stocked with over half a million trout

annually, making it one of anglers’ favorite spots in the U.S., though, fishing is not the only adventure to be found on Taneycomo. Visitors to Branson love to explore the river on one of Main Street Lake Cruises or get wet on the exciting Branson Jet Boats. Table Rock Dam was a marvel when it was constructed in 1958. At over 6400 feet long, it was then the longest dam in the world. The depth of the water at the dam averages 250 feet. When the gates are fully open, the dam releases 500,000 cubic feet per second (or about 3.76 million gallons). The dam is not the only wonder to behold on Table Rock Lake. Visitors and locals alike enjoy boating on the lake which boasts 800 miles of shoreline. The lake is known for its record-setting bass, but fishermen also enjoy catching crappie, catfish, bluegill, and perch. Boats and pontoons can be rented at many marinas around the lake, including State Park Marina near the dam. Scuba divers love exploring the lake.

Visitors and locals alike enjoy the shows of the Showboat Branson Belle, a paddleboat that offers world-class shows and meals. Many guests love to swim at Moonshine Beach. Nearly everyone stops at the Dewey Short Visitor’s Center next to the dam to learn both the history and current conditions on the lake. There are numerous group activities that can be enjoyed at our area lakes. LIsted below are some of the most popular. Be sure to give your group the opportunity to experience the beautiful lakes surrounded by the Ozark Mountains. Group Activities • Showboat Branson Belle • White River Kayaking • Dewey Short Visitor Center • Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery • Branson Jet Boats • Spirit of America Catamaran • Boat Rentals / Fishing • Relaxing at Moonshine Beach

The following are some items to remember when selecting a hotel.

Best Western Center Pointe Inn

Why Use a Receptive Operator? Receptive Operators are valuable destination specialists that offer services for incoming groups and individual visitors. Their inside knowledge and connections to local tourism products allow them to sell packaged components for one or multiple days, in a time managed fashion that pays attention to connecting routes between stops, while providing interesting and memorable itineraries. They are experienced in adding little known experiences for niche market groups, performance opportunities for student groups, special excursions for day trips to nearby tourist towns, or step-on guide services to enrich the tour with information about the history and culture of the area. Using a receptive operator as a liaison can mean the ease of one-stop-shopping for

packaged lodging, shows, attractions, and meals with the confidence of a successful and fun filled tour for your customers. Some groups will use receptive operators for all components of their trip while others will use them to only book certain parts of the trip such as shows, attractions, and step on guides. Probably the most valuable part of using a receptive operator is their ability to handle last minute changes when there is an unforeseen circumstance. A receptive can make quick adjustments by diverting the coach to another fabulous venue and handle all the behind-thescenes items involved. Receptives also have the feedback of numerous other groups that have come before you to help in the planning process.
