You are welcome to gather in the front of the offices from 8am -5pm. Church groups, business meetings, studying, etc is all welcome! We hope to see you. (ps. Yes, we will share the wifi) 2. We have introduced Dippin' Dots to downtown, so, come on out for a fun dessert in creative space. 3. Many of you may have noticed the huge mural on the wall of the office as you drive by. The art was custom draw by our All Custom Artist at Myers Marketing Management and then installed by Sand Springs' own Signit Wraps! We love it! The mural reads "Create Anew" combining our own faith and business into one beautiful piece of art.
4. We are not done! Look for many more additions to our new space over the next 6 months. To stay up with the changes be sure you have joined our Facebook Group and followed us on Instagram. Here is to the best summer yet!

All throughout this edition of We Are Sand Springs, you will see the theme, "Pack & Play." No, you aren't seeing things, it's intentional. Summer is the season upon us, and while things may get busy, with all the graduations, practices, and summer camps ahead, take the time to have a little fun in the sun. These two opposing words, "pack" giving the sense of structure, while "play" gives off a fun vibe, work together to allow for maximum fun while accomplishing tasks. We hope that this summer you get all you need to get done, but still have a little fun with those you care about. - We Are Sand Springs Staff 6 WeAreSandSprings.com | May 2018
Everyone loves a road trip. The feeling of freedom as you get on the road and knowing you can do as little or as much as your heart desires. But the time before your road trip starts is just as important as the road trip itself. Here are four tips to ensure you are ready to get your summer road trip started! 1. Route Plan - Before you depart you should research a rough plan of your route, including times and distances. If you want to stop to sightsee, count that time too. Before you start driving, plan a maximum number of hours to drive in a day. At those points, find a place to stay overnight. 2. Maps - If you are using a phone, be sure to download the map before you leave in case you loose reception. Or if you choose to purchase a large hardcopy map, mark your route before you leave. 3. Entertainment - If you have kids in the car, be sure to have coloring books or handheld electronic games. Grab extra batteries if your entertainment needs them, and be sure to have car adapters to charge devices as well. 4. Car Preparation - Ensure your car is serviced before you depart. Get your oil changed, all water reservoirs should be full, and check your tires to ensure the wear isn't too much. Getting your wheels aligned before you leave will save on your tire wear later on. It might be a good idea to get your tires aligned after your trip as well.

One of his fears was going from Keystone, a small school, into the 9th grade center, that he would be a small fish in a big pond. His passions and following them have brought him to the point that his schedule if full but so is his life. Along the way he says he has had lots of help from the people around him. He attributes his success to his Mom, Dad, and God to start. "My parents raised me right, and gave me the right tools. They have always been there for me which is something I don't take for granted." In an attempt to explain the difference between lightning and thunder, Dylan's father explained to young Sophia that light travels faster than sound. Quickly, Sophia stated "Dylan, you must be Thunder because you are big, slow and loud!" Hence, most people know Dylan as "Thunder." And his brother, Braden, is in his Junior year. Jadine Nollan
The Forecast Looks Bright for Oklahoma!
- State Representative Jadine Nollan House District 66 Serving at the Capitol has been one bumpy road for this Legislator filled with peaks and valleys, drama and emotions, and wins and losses. But the recent approval of our state’s $7.6 billion appropriation budget that includes historic teacher pay raises, increases for common education, healthcare, human services, criminal justice reforms and other core services of the state, is clearly a bright spot for Oklahoma’s future growth and health. If you think about it, it wasn’t that long ago that our State was in a major financial crisis. When I took office in 2010 the nation and global economy was in a deep recession and our Federal Government was helping states like Oklahoma with federal stimulus money. Then when the global economy started to recover the oil and gas industry went into recession and oil prices dropped from over $130 a barrel to $20 a barrel. And being an energy state this was catastrophic to Oklahoma’s budget. The last three years our state has struggled to fill a $600 million, a $1.3 billion, and a $878 million budget shortfall, and had to pass budget after budget with cuts to agencies and core government services. State employees and teachers had to go a decade without an increase in pay, state pensions were grossly underfunded, and our state’s fiscal hole seemed to just get worse and worse. However, after such a dreary financial picture of rain and cold weather, the forecast for 2019 and beyond includes sunny skies and warmer weather. Our state treasurer says revenue collections for Oklahoma are up 15 percent this month, and we have shown revenue growth for 12 consecutive months now. Part of the reason for this growth is not only the global economy turning around, but also over the last 16 months, two regular legislative sessions, and two special sessions we have focused on recurring revenue instead of one-time moneys to help stabilize our state’s budget. This includes the historic passage of House Bill 1010XX, which passed by 79 votes in true bipartisan fashion this spring and provided almost $500 million in recurring revenue to fund core services. It’s been ten years, and two recessions, since we’ve had this kind of good economic news for our state. And with this good news comes more revenue to fund our state’s core services. The approved $7.6 billion state budget for Fiscal Year 2019 is 10.9 percent more than FY 2018 – nearly $800 million more. The Education budget of $2.9 billion is nearly 20 percent more than last year and is the largest appropriation for common education in the state’s history. It includes $353 million to fund pay raises that average $6,100 per teacher, $52 million for support personnel pay raises, $24 million for health benefits and an additional $50 million for the classrooms, which includes $33 million for textbooks. The teacher pay raises moved Oklahoma teachers from last in the region to second for average annual pay,
Letter from Jadine Nollan
and from 48th in the nation to 34th. When factoring for cost of living, Oklahoma teachers will now be the 12th highest paid in the nation. The FY2019 budget also provides $52 million for state employee pay raises, an additional $7.5 million to higher education to fund concurrent enrollment for juniors and seniors in high school to earn college credit, $4 million to the state emergency fund that can be used by fire departments to assist communities hit hardest by recent wildfires, and $400,000 to provide grants for rural fire departments. For the first time in my eight years as your legislator, we have passed a state budget that increases revenue to most agencies and dramatically increases funding to agencies that need it most, which is a huge contrast to what we have had to do the last few years. Like any budget, there are a lot of opinions floating around the Capitol right now. Some people see the glass as half empty and are not happy, while others see the glass as half full and are pleased by the increase to state funding and education. As for me, I’m just happy there is more water in the glass - nearly $800 million worth! Without question, there’s still a lot of work to do. Moving forward, I would like to see the legislature continue to take up government reform measures that will save our state money and allow us to dedicate more funding to our core functions of government without raising taxes. I am advocating that we be smarter about how we manage our money as a state and continue to look at those tax incentives and credits that don’t benefit the state as a whole. After considering our state’s economic history, the future of our state is looking bright. And as I prepare to head back to the greatest district in Oklahoma, for the first time since being elected, I am proud not only of the state budget but the priorities and values that this budget reflects. If there are any state issues I can help you with, please call my office at (405) 557-7390 or email me at jadine. nollan@okhouse.gov. Until next time then, God Bless.

Is Your AC Summer Ready? An air conditioner's filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases. The most important maintenance task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioner is to routinely replace or clean its filters. Clogged, dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a system's efficiency significantly. With normal airflow obstructed, air that bypasses the filter may carry dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil's heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by 5% to 15%. For central air conditioners, filters are generally located somewhere along the return duct's length. Common filter locations are in walls, ceilings, furnaces or in the air conditioner itself. Room air conditioners have a filter mounted in the grill that faces into the room. Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced. They are available in a variety of types and efficiencies. Clean or replace your air conditioning system's filter or filters every month or two during the cooling season. Filters may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in constant use, is subected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house. The air conditioner's evaporator coil and condenser coil collect dirt over their months and years of service. A clean filter prevents the evaporator coil from soiling quickly. In time, however, the evaporator coil will still collect dirt. This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. To avoid this problem, check your avaporator coil every year and clean it as necessary. Outdoor condenser coils can also become very dirty if the outdoor environment is dusty or if there is foliage nearby. You can easily see the condenser coil and notice if dirt is collecting on its fins. You should minimize dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Your dryer vents, falling leaves, and lawn moer are are all potential sources of dirt and debris. Cleaning the area around the coil, removing any debris, and trimming foliage back at least 2 feet allow for adequate airflow around the condenser.
18 WeAreSandSprings.com | May 2018
The aluminum fins on the evaporator and condenser coils are easily bent and can block airflow through the coil. Air Conditioning wholesalers sell a tool called a "fin comb" that will comb these fins back into nearly original condition. Occasionally pass a stiff wire through the unit's drain channels. Clogged drain channels prevent a unit from reducing humidity, and the resulting excess moisture may discolor walls or carpet. At the start of each cooling season, inspect the seal between the air conditioner and the window frame to ensure it makes contact with the unit's metal case. Moisture can damage this seal, allowing cool air to escape from your house. When your air conditioner needs more than regular maintenance, hire a professional service technician. A well-trained technician will find and fix problems in your air conditioning system.
• • • • • • • • •
Your technician should: Check for correct amount of refrigerant Test for refrigerant leaks using a leak detector Capture any refrigerant that must be evacuated from the system, instead of illegally releasing it into the atmosphere Check for and seal duct leakage in central systems Measure airflow through the evaporator coil Verify the correct electric control sequence and make sure that the heating system and cooling system cannot operate simultaneously Inspect electric terminals, clean and tighten connections, and apply a non-conductive coating if necessary Oil motors and check belts for tightness and wear Check the accuracy of the thermostat

Well, we waited... and waited... and finally the day came. QuikTrip finished the construction of the newly renovated QT on 41st in Prattville. Needless to say we were excited to see the construction completed, however, Sand Springs as a community was ready for the completion so they could get all the snacks, gas, and treats their hearts desired. QuikTrip has been a part of Tulsa history since they opened their first location on September 25th in 1958. Chester Cadieux and Burt Holmes brought QT into the communities surrounding Tulsa and into our hearts... There are currently 2 QT's in Sand Springs... Do we need another???

The mission of the Sand Springs Education Foundation is this, "The primary purpose of the Sand Springs Education Foundation is to serve as a private partner of the Sand Springs Public Schools, providing grants to support programs and teaching projects for which funds are not available from federal, state and local sources." This mission put forth by the SSEF is surely lived up to. The Sand Springs Education Foundation was formed as a non-profit 501c3 organization in 1989. It was created to develop supportive community and private sector relationships with all of the Sand Springs schools. Collecting contributions from individuals, businesses, and organizations to fund teaching projects across the Sand Springs Public Schools. The first project the Sand Springs Education Foundation took on was an old fashioned

"box meal" fundraiser by local Sandite and businessman, Montie Box. Montie challenged Sand Springs residents to bring supplies and cash to support the local schools as their "ticket" to a free chicken dinner at Charles Page High School. At that time, Box presented the former Superintendent Wendell Sharpton with a matching $5,000 to launch the Sand Springs Education Foundation. Over the years the Sand Springs Education Foundation has held to it's mission statement and has refined it's goals: • To enhance learning opportunities • To provide enrichment in the school system's basic curriculum • To stimulate creativity in the classroom by funding original teaching projects for which funds are not available through public sources

Kate Corrigan has her life in order, or so she likes to think. In what she describes as "now lower middle age" but "upper youth," she has a lucrative job, a no strings-attached man, and a new house in the suburbs. "Consider yourselves part of the clutter," she blithely tells new neighbors Molly Blumenthal and her grandson, Jeff, when they pay Kate a call before she has even unpacked. And delightful clutter they soon become, overwhelming Kate's tiny existence with a roller-coaster friendship, pot-roast, and the problems of all the elderly women on the block. As she meets these women, living in quirky isolation after outliving their husbands' and their families' need for them, Kate realizes the life she's found looks a lot like the one she'd been running from. "Is it in the genes, an instinct," she wonders, "like elephants heading for the burial ground? Am I a little old lady in training?" Confronted with old fears and new choices, Kate finds her life opening up - wide enough, for the first time, to admit love.
"A senitive comedy about friendship between generations," said Stanford Mail. "Full of wit and laughter... warmth and wisdom,"echoed the Sierra Madre News. "L'chaim!" say Kate and Molly. Audiences of all ages applaud their determination to "grow older, wiser, stronger in every way. But not old."
Show Dates: April 27,28 June 15, 16, 17, 2018 @ Tulsa Performing Arts Center
