year-old male had been out on a boat fishing on Clearwater Lake with family members. The boat was approximately 1/4 mile from the shore when he dove into the water to go swimming. The man did not resurface after diving into the water. RCMP report that at approximately 7pm the man’s body was recovered and was transported to The Pas Health Complex. Emergency personnel were unable to resuscitate him. Police say that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this incident.

Manitoba man arrested for shooting at crop duster plane A 51-year-old Manitoba man has been charged with shooting at a crop duster airplane.
Police said the duster was spraying over a field in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie, near Fortier, on Wednesday when it was hit. No one was hurt but the side and bottom of the plane were damaged.

A search of a home and outbuildings on a property in the RM turned up a firearm and ammunition. The 51-year-old man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg. Ken Kane , the owner of the aerial spraying company, said the bullet went through the bottom of the plane and out the side, close to where the pilot was sitting. Kane wonders why more serious charges, such as attempted murder, aren't being laid against the man. ( Ken Kane Aerial Spray Ltd.) He faces several charges, including discharging a firearm, mischief and endangering an aircraft. Ken Kane, the owner of the aerial spraying company is wondering why more serious charges, such as attempted murder, aren't being laid against the man. "He was shooting at the airplane and the pilot that was in it. My question is, if an RCMP car is going by and somebody shoots at an RCMP car, what is going to happen to the guy?" Kane said. Kane said the bullet went through the bottom of the plane and out the side, close to where the pilot was sitting. Kane said the pilot is shaken up but is working again today. ( Ken Kane Aerial Spray Ltd) The pilot is shaken up but is working again today, Kane said, adding that in his 40 years in business, he has never seen anything like this. "It was right beside No. 1 highway. He could have killed the pilot, could of endangered other people's lives," Kane said.
"That doesn't make sense to me. Very disturbing."

Tran said the morels sell for $40 a pound and you can get up to $400 a pound for the lobster mushrooms. But he's not about to tell anyone where to find them. When it comes to mushroom hunting, se-

At Black's Point beach in Grindstone Provincial Park, the water is surrounding the benches on the beach and the bridge to get to the beach is floating away. Winnipeg Beach is also taking a pounding and waves more than a metre high are washing over bulkheads. Tony Pimentel, the mayor of Winnipeg Beach, said several properties at either end of the community are sandbagged, but they may need shoring up as a wind warning has been issued by Environment Canada for all of Lake Winnipeg. The town's famous boardwalk is also in trouble. "The boardwalk is going to be closed down probably for this weekend because of the wave action washing away the sand underneath the boardwalk," Pimentel said. And it just so happens this weekend is the community's annual Boardwalk Days festival, lamented Pimentel, who said this is shaping up to be a terrible summer. "And our piers, they're closed off. The water levels are so high in fact, down some of the streets they can't be used at all because water levels are right up to the, almost to the roads," he said.
singing on a Winnipeg Transit bus could land you a $100 fine. The city's executive policy committee approved a new transit bylaw on Wednesday that makes singing on a Winnipeg Transit bus a ticketable offence. The rule came as part of a larger transit bylaw that makes it against the law not to pay your bus fare and establishes an array of “inappropriate conduct” for which someone can be kicked off a bus or fined.
The provision for the city’s more “musical” guests, says without permission from Winnipeg Transit, no one can play a musical instrument, sing or offer a live musical performance on a city bus or face a fine of $100 plus court costs.
The rule is part of the “inappropriate conduct” portion of the bylaw, which also includes carrying a firearm, urinating or spraying graffiti on city buses. The new bylaw also made provisions for banning people from the public transit system and limiting the time a person can wait in a bus shelter to 90 minutes. The bylaw listed a number of fines associated with each infraction. Specific fines for “minor offences” would be $100 “plus court costs.”

northern gateway pipeline: First nations outline constitutional challenges Several B.C. First Nations laid out their plans to fight Enbridge's Northern Gateway pipeline proposal in the courts at a news conference in Vancouver. The First Nations leaders said they will mount several constitutional challenges to block the proposed pipeline as a constitutional violation of their aboriginal land rights in their respective territories, particularly in light of the Supreme Court of Canada victory last month by the Tsilhqot'in First Nation. The list of speakers included Peter Lantin, the president of the Council of the Haida Nation; Clarence Innis, acting chief councillor for the Gitxaala; Ellis Ross, chief councillor for the Haisla; Martin Louie, chief councillor of the Nadleh Whut’en; Jessie Housty, councillor for the Heiltsuk; and Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, the president of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. In that landmark ruling, the Supreme Court of Canada recognized the Tsilhqot'in First Nation's aboriginal title over a wide area to the south and west of B.C.'s Williams Lake, which it considers its traditional territory. The court also established what title means, including the right to the benefits associated with the land and the right to use it, enjoy it and profit from it. However, the court declared that title is not absolute, meaning economic development can still proceed on land where title is established as long as it has the consent of the First Nation, or where the government can make the case that development is pressing and substantial. The court also made it clear that provincial law still applies to land over which aboriginal title has been declared, subject to constitutional limit. Other First Nations have also been quick to push forward their claims on traditional lands in light of the ruling. The Gitxaala First Nation, with territory on islands off the North Coast, have already announced its own plans to file a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Appeal challenging the Northern Gateway pipeline. The hereditary chiefs of the Gitxsan First Nations served notice to CN Rail, logging companies and sport fishermen to leave the
33,000 square kilometres they claim as their territory along the Skeena River by Aug. 4. And the Kwikwetlem First Nation also raised the ruling in its claim to title of all lands associated with the now-closed Riverview Hospital in Metro Vancouver along with other areas of its traditional territory.
omar Khadr's war-crimes convictions stand despite legal questions A secret memo on CIA involvement in drone killings raised questions about Omar Khadr's war crime convictions. Canada's Omar Khadr has lost his bid to have his war-crimes convictions tossed after the U.S. government argued a previously secret memo that raised questions about the legal underpinnings of his prosecution was irrelevant to his case.
The decision by the military commission appeals court — which has so far refused to hear arguments on the merits of Khadr's appeal — means the former Guantanamo Bay prisoner will have to wait even longer to make his case to a regular American court. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia set aside two of three convictions against Ali Hamza al-Bahlul, who did media relations for terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden. The court found the military commission did not have the authority to try him for conduct that wasn't considered a war crime before 2006. Khadr's lawyers have made similar arguments and the military commission appeals court was waiting for the al-Bahlul decision before holding any hearings on the Canadian's appeal. It was not immediately clear how the decision might now impact Khadr's case. In prosecuting Khadr, the Pentagon maintained he had violated long-standing American "common law of war" by taking up hostilities against U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Khadr's lawyers argued a detailed Department of Justice legal memo produced in July 2010 — but which only came to light last month — made no mention of any such body of law, suggesting it doesn't exist. "Khadr's logical leap is unsupported," the government argued in its filings to the Court of Military Commission Review. "(The memo) did not purport to address the issue Khadr seeks to litigate here." The legal analysis concluded CIA agents would not be guilty of war crimes by using drones to kill people even though they are not part of the military and could be seen as "unprivileged" combatants. In arguing the memo is irrelevant to Khadr's case, the U.S. government maintains CIA agents are "government actors" engaged in "lawfully authorized hostilities" while Khadr was a "non-governmental actor" engaged in hostilities not sanctioned by any state. Khadr's Pentagon-appointed lawyer Sam Morison said the government's "artificial distinction" between state and non-state actors flies in the face of the plain language of the memo. "The government's opposition therefore grasps at straws to avoid the inevitable conclusion that Khadr's conviction lacks any legal foundation," Morison said. Khadr pleaded guilty in October 2010 before a military commission in Guantanamo Bay to five war crimes committed as a 15 year old in Afghanistan in July 2002. He was given a further eight years and transferred to Canada in September 2012 to serve out his sentence. He has since said he only pleaded guilty to get out of Guantanamo. Last month, the Alberta Court of Appeal ruled his eight-year sentence amounted to a youth sentence, and ordered he serve his time in a provincial jail. Ottawa is appealing to the Supreme Court. Khadr, now 27, remains the only person ever prosecuted for the death of an American soldier in Afghanistan.

Millet RV dealer sentenced to 7 years for fraud Millett, Alberta - RV dealer Arnold Donszelmann was sentenced to seven years in prison for defrauding dozens of victims. Donszelmann, 54, showed no emotion as the judge sentenced him before an Edmonton courtroom packed with his victims.
A jury had previously found Donszelmann guilty of 31 counts of fraud involving an RV leasing scheme. In many cases, the RVs did not exist. Many of his victims told the court they lost thousands of dollars in the scheme. Donszelmann must pay them more than $2.3 million in restitution. Stan Pledge and his wife Beryle lost $110,000 in the scheme. Despite his heart condition, Pledge, 67, is working as a truck driver to pay the bills. Pledge doesn't think he will ever see any of the restitution money. “If I get anything, twenty bucks, I’ll smile,” Pledge said.
Hamilton man drives 44 kilometres the wrong way on Highways 403 and 401 A Hamilton man drove more that 44 kilometres into oncoming traffic, travelling from Brantford to Ingersoll on Highways 403 and 401 before police closed the highway to stop him. A Hamilton man drove the wrong way on two of Southern Ontario's biggest highways for more that 44 kilometres before police closed the highway to stop him. The man travelled into oncoming traffic, weaving his way through oncoming traffic, all the way from Brantford to Ingersoll on Highways 403 and 401. The incident happened mid-morning on Monday. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable Liosa Naranesik
said her Oxford detachment listened to their radio scanners intently as the driver "lane hopped" between the lanes, as well as both shoulders, as he drove into oncoming traffic. Naranesik said an off-duty officer travelling west in the westbound lanes, tracked the driver for much of the journey, providing updates the OPP detachment could hear over their police radios. "He travelled such a long way," Naranesik said. "It was eerie listening to it on the dispatch because you were just kind of waiting for something to happen." The driver travelled on Highway 403 and then merged against other live oncoming traffic at Woodstock where Highway 403 merges with Highway 401. The driver exited briefly at a service centre, but did not stop for coffee or gas, driving straight through and back onto the highway, going west in the eastbound lanes. "It's very lucky that no one was injured or killed," said Naranesik. A 29-year-old Hamilton man was charged with dangerous driving and possession of marijuana. Naranesik said the driver was not charged with impaired driving, and has been released on a promise to appear in September at a court in Woodstock.
Montreal police officer reassigned after altercation with school staff An officer accused of using excessive force in an altercation with a janitor and teacher outside a Plateau-Mont-Royal elementary school last month has been reassigned to a job where he will no longer be required to deal with the public. However, the officer will not face charges, said Cmdr. Ian Lafrenière. The move follows a week-long police inquiry into the incident outside École au Pied-de-la-Montagne at the corner of Des Pins and Henri-Julien avenues, which found no criminal charges were warranted against the officer. The inquiry took into consideration the accusations of the janitor and teacher, the version of events supplied by the officer and his colleagues at the scene as well as the testimonies of witnesses. “You have to look at both sides of the coin,” Lafrenière said.
The incident began around 5 p.m. with the officer running a red light in front of École au Pied-de-la-Montagne at the corner of Des Pins and Henri-Julien avenues. Janitor Carl Cadieux alleged the police car went through the red light without flashing its lights just as children were about to cross the intersection. Cadieux said he yelled at the officer to be more careful and the officer returned to confront him. Lafrenière said the officer was responding to a 911 call about a woman who was nearly struck by a truck in a nearby alley and denied that his flashing lights weren't on when he went through the red light. He confirmed the officer spoke to Cadieux but said that it was the janitor and teacher Nadia Lessard who escalated the situation, which led to both being handcuffed and Lessard pepper-sprayed in the eyes. Lessard said the officer grabbed her by the throat and peppersprayed her for touching his arm and telling him repeatedly to release Cadieux, who she said was being pinned against the cruiser and calling out in pain as the officer handcuffed him.
Lessard was charged with obstructing justice, while Lafrenière said Cadieux was issued a summons for the same offence. Lafrenière said the officer exercised his duties within the bounds of acceptable police conduct. “It’s extremely unfortunate that these people were arrested under those circumstances, but when a police officer is doing his job, and you don’t agree with him, and you get involved physically, that’s not the solution,” Lafrenière said. Lafrenière acknowledged that the officer is the subject of an unrelated civil suit.
school staff deplore ruling Cadieux and Lessard told news reporters that they stick by their allegations and will continue to pursue justice in the case through Quebec's police ethics committee. Cadieux disagreed with the decision not to discipline the officer."What he did was dangerous and it's deplorable that the police are protecting him," he told Media News. "He's dangerous and shouldn't hold the position he does." Lessard said the worst part is the message that the incident sends to the school children who witnessed it. "They're saying the police are mean, they saw their teacher and janitor put in handcuffs." continued on page 8

daughter's 25 cent gumball request turns into $1M payout Rick and Marion Traverse of Paradise have a million reasons to celebrate — as the newest millionaires in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Traverse family hit the jackpot in the Atlantic Lottery scratch game, Prestige, and were at Atlantic Lottery headquarters in St. John's on Wednesday to pick up their winnings. Rick Traverse said he bought the ticket Friday night at the Marie's Mini Mart in Paradise with his daughter.
"I had $10 left, and she said, 'Dad, can I have a quarter for a gumball?' And I said, 'Well, you can have a quarter— or I can buy a million dollar ticket.' She said, 'Buy the ticket!' So, I bought the ticket, scratched half of it Saturday, put it in my back pocket and never thought of it 'till Sunday," he said. On Sunday, Marion Traverse was cooking dinner when she heard her husband scream that he won a million dollars. "I thought he was saying, 'Mouse, mouse,' and when I looked he was coming at me saying he had won," she said. Traverse said her husband then bolted out the door with his shoes half on to rush to the store to validate the ticket. "It was the longest 10 minutes of my life," she said. The first thing the couple did was rent a limousine to travel to Placentia, and visit their parents. "We surprised my mom and dad, and Rick's mom. And when I pulled up in front of the house I grew up in, that's when it hit me. It was a special moment," Marion said. The couple plan on making several purchases, including buying a car for Marion's sister, who is a single mother.
$80 dollars Best Buy A Hamilton-area man’s dashcam may have saved him a pricey car insurance payout – and maybe even from falling victim to an insurance scam, an industry expert says. While he can’t know for sure, Craig Schneider says he feels like he narrowly avoided being taken advantage of, and now wants
people to know how useful dashcams can be. “You can get a dashcam for 80-160 bucks and protect yourself.” “I still get infuriated by it – that there are people out there who would do this.” 'We’ve seen many staged collisions where people are setting up crashes to take advantage of auto insurance claims.' - Pete Karageorgos, director of consumer and industry relations for Ontario with the Insurance Bureau of Canada The incident happened in the McDonalds parking lot at the cor-
we’re dealing with here.” That’s when Schneider says he got fed up and went to the police. He filed a collision report and told the police about the two men allegedly impersonating a police officer. “And whether it was fraud or not is a whole other story altogether.” But Schneider has already made up his mind about that. “This is blatantly a scam,” he said. Karageorgos says that on the insurance side, having dashcam footage handy will likely help Schneider out when dealing with an insurance claim. “Typically, if you’re the person who has the front end damage in a situation like this, you’re at fault,” he said. “Here, it seems to be the person in front tried to make it sound like the other person is at fault.”
A staple in Russia
ner of Barton Street East and Lottridge Street on Monday evening, Schneider says. He was pulling out of the drive-thru when he saw a man get into the passenger side door of a large silver truck. The truck pulled towards the parking lot’s exit, and Schneider pulled up behind them. He says he looked to his left, and “sure enough, in the corner of my eye I see movement.” “I lay on the horn and boom – they smashed into me.” Schneider says that’s when one of the men jumped out of the truck and immediately started yelling at him. “He started screaming at me and saying I wasn’t paying attention and saying I had to pay for the damage,” he said. That tune changed when Schneider mentioned the dashcam, he says. “Then the driver kept saying ‘be a man and don’t go through insurance.’” Police weren’t called at that point, and generally wouldn't be for an incident in a private parking lot, says Pete Karageorgos, the director of consumer and industry relations for Ontario with the Insurance Bureau of Canada. “We’ve seen many staged collisions where people are setting up crashes to take advantage of auto insurance claims,” But then Schneider’s story gets even more bizarre. While still in the parking lot, he and the two men exchanged phone numbers. Schneider gave his full name, though the other men would only give their first names. One of them also called Schneider’s phone, he says, to “check and see if it was the real thing.” They all drove off without a dollar figure being discussed – something Schneider admits wasn’t the wisest move, but attributes to being shaken up after the entire incident. Then, five minutes later, his phone rings. He knows it’s the men from the collision, as he recognizes the number. Except this time, they’re pretending to be cops. “But they sounded exactly the same. I even recognized their voices,” Schneider says. He repeatedly asked for a name and badge number, but the man on the other end of the phone wouldn’t give one, he says. Then they hung up. “They called from the same number minutes before. It’s just ludicrous,” he said. “This is the calibre of people
Anyone who has spent time watching dashcam collision videos on YouTube knows the majority of them come from Russia, where the practice is extremely popular to prevent insurance fraud. According to Al Jazeera, an estimated one million people across Russia have installed cameras in their cars. Now, the practice is becoming more popular in Canada, Karageorgos says. “It’s a trend where you’re basically creating a silent witness,” he said. “It’s something people are investing in.” “It would be extremely difficult for Schneider to prove his series events without one.” Schneider is totally convinced his investment was well worth it. “I’ve seen some crazy stuff through the years, so I thought I’d protect myself,” he said. “But I wasn’t expecting it to be like this. It was $80 well worth it.”

news Headlines From Around the Messi didn't deserve golden Ball
Putin made the remarks after meeting Cuban leader Raul Castro, Russia's Itar-Tass news agency reported from Havana. During his one-day visit, the two countries signed 10 agreements to expand cooperation in energy, transportation, culture, industry and healthcare.
Argentina icon Diego Maradona feels Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the Golden Ball following his performances at the World Cup.
magnetic field is weakening, but one likely reason is that Earth's magnetic poles are getting ready to flip, said Rune Floberghagen, the ESA's Swarm mission manager. In fact, the data suggest magnetic north is moving toward Siberia. "Such a flip is not instantaneous, but would take many hundred if not a few thousand years," said Floberghagen . "They have happened many times in the past."
The Barcelona star beat the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez to the prestigious individual award after scoring four goals in seven performances at this summer's tournament and guiding his team to the final, yet Maradona feels the 27-year-old only won it for commercial reasons.
"I would give him heaven if possible," Maradona said during his show on Telesur. "But it's not right when someone wins something that he shouldn't have won just because of some marketing plan." Maradona then went on to voice his disappointment with Argentina's 1-0 defeat in final against Germany following Mario Gotze's goal in extra time. "I feel sorry for my country. Mario Gotze's goal really hurt. There's a huge sadness in my heart that we lost the final," he said. "All things put together, I think Argentina deserved at least penalties. That Germany won was the result of a misunderstanding in the Argentine defense." The 1986 World Cup winner also had his say on Alejandro Sabella's decision to replace Ezequiel Lavezzi with Sergio Aguero at halftime and argued that the Argentina boss got things wrong. "I don't understand the substitution of Lavezzi," Maradona said. "He was phenomenal down the wing. Kun Aguero didn't have the same impact. It was not his tournament."
Russia, Cuba creating conditions for developing ties HAVANA, Cuba, July 11 - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that Russia and Cuba are creating new conditions for the development of their relations.
Under the deals, the two sides agreed on setting up a special regional training center for firefighters and emergency rescuers, and exchanging information on international security. In the energy sector, Russia's state-run oil firm Rosneft and Cubapetroleo (Cupet) will cooperate in offshore oil exploration while Russia's Inter RAO Export company will help boost the generating capacity at a Cuban thermoelectric plant by building four 200-MW stations. Russia has decided to forgive 90 percent of Cuba's debt to Moscow, the Kremlin press service said Friday. The remaining 10 percent of the debt will be restructured and paid over the next 10 years, and the money will be reinvested into the Cuban economy. At a joint press conference, Raul Castro said forgiving the debt was "a new demonstration of the great generosity of the Russian people towards Cuba." This is Putin's second visit to the island country since 2000.
Earth's Magnetic Field Is Fading & May Be Ready To Flip Earth's magnetic field, which protects the planet from huge blasts of deadly solar radiation, has been weakening over the past six months, according to data collected by a European Space Agency (ESA) satellite array called Swarm. The biggest weak spots in the magnetic field — which extends 370,000 miles (600,000 kilometers) above the planet's surface — have sprung up over the Western Hemisphere, while the field has strengthened over areas like the southern Indian Ocean, according to the magnetometers onboard the Swarm satellites — three separate satellites floating in tandem. The scientists who conducted the study are still unsure why the
Scientists already know that magnetic north shifts. Once every few hundred thousand years the magnetic poles flip so that a compass would point south instead of north. While changes in magnetic field strength are part of this normal flipping cycle, data from Swarm have shown the field is starting to weaken faster than in the past. Previously, researchers estimated the field was weakening about 5 percent per century, but the new data revealed the field is actually weakening at 5 percent per decade, or 10 times faster than thought. As such, rather than the full flip occurring in about 2,000 years, as was predicted, the new data suggest it could happen sooner. Floberghagen hopes that more data from Swarm will shed light on why the field is weakening faster now. Still, there is no evidence that a weakened magnetic field would result in a doomsday for Earth. During past polarity flips there were no mass extinctions or evidence of radiation damage. Researchers think power grids and communication systems would be most at risk. Earth's magnetic field acts like a giant invisible bubble that shields the planet from the dangerous cosmic radiation spewing from the sun in the form of solar winds. The field exists because Earth has a giant ball of iron at its core surrounded by an outer layer of molten metal. Changes in the core's temperature and Earth's rotation boil and swirl the liquid metal around in the outer core, creating magnetic field lines. The movement of the molten metal is why some areas of the magnetic field strengthen while others weaken, Florberghagen said. When the boiling in one area of the outer core slows down, fewer currents of charged particles are released, and the magnetic field over the surface weakens. "The flow of the liquid outer core almost pulls the magnetic continued on page 36

UsA Marijuana is illegal under Us federal law, so should the IRs be able to collect taxes on Colorado pot sales?
marijuana industries in Colorado and Washington state — for now. “We don’t know what a new president is going to do, and of course we know we are going to have a new president,” Corry said. “I think the federal government needs to make up its mind, whether they have supremacy over state law,” Gorman said. If the feds do decide at some point to prosecute marijuana businesses, Cruser says it won’t be difficult. “Frankl,y if you’re operating that business and you have a store front, it’s blatantly obvious what you’re doing,” Cruser said. Cruser emphasizes — folks should be paying their taxes.
For years, “conspiracy theorists” have been claiming that cell phone use can cause cancer. Well, the mainstream media is starting to catch up. Some very startling scientific studies have come out recently that are hard to ignore.
Fluoride Is Harmful Incredibly, the federal government is finally admitting that fluoride in our drinking water can be harmful. In fact, the feds have reduced the “recommended amount” of fluoride in US drinking water for the first time in 50 years.
Some Colorado marijuana sellers are challenging Uncle Sam. They’re filing a lawsuit — saying the IRS shouldn’t be allowed to collect taxes on marijuana sales because marijuana is illegal under federal law. Attorney Rob Corry says forcing Colorado’s recreational marijuana businesses to pay violates the United States Constitution. He has filed a lawsuit in District Court on behalf of clients, some of whom say taxes could be used as evidence in any future prosecution.
The following is an excerpt from a recent CNN article about one of these studies…. At the highest exposure levels — using a mobile phone half an hour a day over a 10-year period — the study found a 40 percent increased risk of glioma brain tumors.
We probably won’t see them ban fluoride any time soon, but for them to even acknowledge a problem with fluoride is a major step. In a recent article on CNN, it was reported that the federal government is now saying that fluoride in the water have now officially been linked with fluorosis…. The Department of Health and Human Services and Environmental Protection Agency are proposing the change because of an increase in fluorosis — a condition that causes spotting and streaking on children’s teeth. “They’re open records and they are admitting to a federal crime. It’s still a federal crime to sell marijuana,” Corry said. Recreational marijuana was legalized in Colorado on the condition sales would be heavily taxed — with proceeds going toward schools and regulation. Even the federal government gets its share. “The federal government takes money from a criminal enterprise. That’s part of money laundering — when they can seize the money because it’s illegal, but then to take it in and use the money?” Tom Gorman, who heads the Federal Drug Task Force said. Attorney Amanda Cruser, who once worked in the Justice Department’s Tax Division says the IRS just wants its money. “They can collect taxes on gross income from whatever source derived. So therefore, they don’t care whether it’s non-legal or legal source income,” Cruser said. The Justice Department said it will not interfere with recreational
Cell Phones Linked To Cancer
The Federal Reserve favors the Big Banks We were always told by the media that the Federal Reserve was “above politics” and that it did not show favoritism. Well, we all know now that the Fed is deeply corrupt and about the only people that they actually help are their friends. It turns out that the Federal Reserve very quietly showered the big banks and their friends with hundreds of billions of dollars in loans at rates that were substantially below market during the financial crisis. While Wall Street was being flooded with easy loans, none of the small banks that were deeply suffering and no average Americans got any money.
Prescription drugs Kill A Lot of Americans Growing up, I never even imagined that prescription drugs could be dangerous. I had complete faith in the medical community and the government to only allow drugs on the market that were fully tested and proven to be 100% safe. Well, I was dead wrong. The truth is that adverse reactions to prescription drugs kill a huge number of Americans every year. A recent Vanity Fair article entitled “Deadly Medicine” began with the following statement…. Prescription drugs kill some 20,000 Americans every year. Will that number go up?
Bisphenol-A is linked to infertility A very common chemical known as bisphenol-A is found in thousands upon thousands of our plastic products. It also turns out that it has some really nasty effects on the human body. Fortunately, some in the mainstream media are beginning to acknowledge this. Back in October 2013, one of the largest UK newspapers published an article entitled “Bisphenol-A now linked to male infertility” which made the following unequivocal state-

Telephone: 1.204.676.3800 ment about the dangers of BPA…. Bisphenol-A (BPA), known as the “gender bending” chemical because of its connection to male impotence, has now been shown to decrease sperm mobility and quality.
The targeting of Christian groups Californian - We are increasingly hearing from the Obama administration and some members of Congress that we need to be really concerned about “homegrown terrorists” and “Christian extremists”. For example, during a recent Congressional hearing U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee warned that “Christian militants” might try to “bring down the country” and that such groups need to be investigated.
In addition, according to a shocking document obtained by Oath Keepers, the FBI is now instructing store owners to report many new forms of “suspicious activity” to them. According to the document, “suspicious activity” now includes making “extreme religious statements” and believing in “radical theology”. Not only that, a Department of Homeland Security report on “right wing extremism” from April 2014 lists the following people as potential terrorists…. -those that believe in “end times” prophecies -those that believe abortion is wrong -those that stockpile food, ammunition or weapons -those that are against same-sex marriage -those that believe in “New World Order” conspiracy theories We don’t know about you, but when the federal government starts targeting people based on their religious beliefs, that makes us very nervous.
This world is officially going crazy. So don’t blame “conspiracy theorists” for wanting to dig around and get the facts. The mainstream media sure doesn’t give us much of the truth. As the world continues to fall apart and as the propaganda gets even more blatant, the hunger for the truth is only going to grow. Who knows? Perhaps before it is all over you will be a “conspiracy theorist” too.

mon enough, especially if you’re a young African-American man, but cops turning minor transgressions into major events is a growing stain on our society. Christopher Lewis was a construction worker on-site at the Charleston, South Carolina Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center, a federal facility. At lunch in the hospital cafeteria, he refilled his drink without paying, same most everyone does in most every fast food place. Lewis failed to notice the sign saying refills were not free. A Federal Police Force officer who witnessed the illicit refilling grabbed Lewis by the arm and asked if he was going to pay for the drink. Lewis explained he didn’t know refills weren’t free, and added that unfortunately he had also refilled in the past.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The U.S. Coast Guard has freed a Canadian sailboat that became trapped in Arctic ice off the north coast of Alaska. The 36-foot Altan Girl out of Vancouver was attempting to sail to eastern Canada through the Northwest Passage. It became trapped in ice 40 miles northeast of Barrow, the northernmost city in the United States.
The Coast Guard cutter Healy reached the sailboat, and with the Altan Girl in tow, cut a 12-mile path through ice to open water. The sailboat's owner says he intends to wait in Barrow for better weather and to restock supplies. The Healy is on a National Science Foundation funded research mission in the Arctic. The Coast Guard says the cutter is continuing with its research.
Man pays $525 for a drink refill because... Think soda refills are free? Think again. Some are real expensive, especially when bully law enforcement gets involved. It is not hard to find almost daily examples of the new face of law enforcement in America. “Guilty while doing nothing” is com-
Lewis then attempted to pay for the 89 cent refill, but was prevented from doing so by the cop. The officer, who is also the chief of the Federal Police Force that patrols the VA hospital, instead took Lewis to a holding room and a $525 ticket for shoplifting. A hospital spokesperson later characterized the purloined soda as “theft of government property” and added that Lewis was aggressive during the “confrontation.” It gets worse. Because he was now a “criminal,” (never mind that innocent until proven guilty thing you hear about on TV) Lewis was thrown off VA property and banned from returning, meaning that he lost his job. Lewis offered to bring is own lunch in the future and not got to the cafeteria if he could stay on the job, but was told no. Lewis refused to plead guilty and planned to take the case to court. It was only at that point, and after local media publicized the case, that the Veteran’s Affairs hospital decided to change its mind, tear up the $525 ticket and let Lewis off with a “warning.” It is still unclear whether or not Lewis is allowed to continue working his job at the site. The hospital stated that it “is fortunate to have a highly trained Federal police force to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and employees. As Federal police they are responsible for enforcing the law.” continued on page 14
page 14 Continued from page 13 The hospital had no comment on how many actual crimes that really threatened the safety of its patients, visitors and employees went unnoticed while they were harassing Lewis. How many taxpayer dollars were spent on this whole process were also left unsaid, but we can safely assume it was more than 89 cents. And hey, if you run into Christopher Lewis somewhere, buy the guy a Diet Coke or something. He’s probably thirsty.

stokes Political Concerns in Estonia
Fake officer charged after pulling over real one ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida - Police say a man impersonating an officer faces charges after signalling a real detective to pull over on a road in Florida. St. Johns County authorities say 20-year-old Matthew Michael Lee McMahon activated a red and blue light while driving behind an unmarked sheriff's car. Detective Chance Anderson pulled over and was shocked to see an unknown face behind the wheel of the other car.
Russian media quoted Mr. Seagal as describing Mr. Putin’s actions in Ukraine as ”very reasonable”. Mr. Seagal has since joined the president to help promote physical fitness in Russia and was recently proposed by a Russian government official as a potential front man for a Soviet-era weapons factory. Some 20 years after becoming independent from the Soviet Union, Estonia’s relations with Russia remain fragile with concerns reflecting ethnic tensions that run through the Baltic region, which includes Lithuania and Latvia. Since making Mr. Seagal the festival’s top act, Augustibluus organizer Indrek Ditmann said he has received letters calling him a betrayer.
Steven Seagal, Vladimir Putin and Fedor Emelianenko at a martial arts even in Russia. Hollywood action star Steven Seagal, perhaps best known for his martial arts skills but also lately as a defender of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine, has stirred up heated emotions in Estonia, the tiny Baltic country. Mr. Seagal, also a musician currently touring in Europe with his blues band, was set to headline the Augustibluus festival in the small Estonian town of Haapsalu in early August. Organizers have tried to convince him to front the festival for years but now they are being bombarded with criticism for making him their main star.
Detective Chance Anderson said, that during his more than 10 years of service he has arrested several police impersonators. But none had ever ordered him to stop his car. McMahon is charged with impersonating an officer and unlawfully displaying blue lights. He was released after posting $5,500 in bail.

Russian's President Vladimir Putin and US actor Steven Seagal Mr. Ditmann told The Wall Street Journal that he was completely taken aback by the reactions, since Mr. Seagal’s participation has nothing to do with his political views. ”We have had many artists performing in Estonia whose political or other views we know nothing about,” he was quoted as saying. ”Mr. Seagal is not part of weaving some sort of political messages. This is not why he is in Europe.” Locals have called on people to boycott the event, accusing the organizers of being out of touch with political realities. Even Estonia’s foreign minister, Urmas Paet, has lashed out at the event managers for being “too one-tracked” when claiming that Mr. Seagal is merely a musician and thereby failing to take into consideration his support for Mr. Putin’s annexation of Crimea. Mr. Paet told local media that the movie star has actively supported Russia's but not USA political actions.

singer and guitar player. But invitation to bring his musical talent to Estonia has gone down in a country that has a fraught history with its eastern neighbour Russia. Seagal has been vocal in his support of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and his annexation of the Crimean peninsula. The announcement of Seagal's headlining slot at Augustibluus, a blues festival held the beginning of August in the western town of Haapsalu for over 20 years, was met with a swift outcry, with Estonian rock singer Tõnis Mägi calling for a boycott. Estonia's foreign minister, Urmas Paet, told the Tallinn daily Delfi: "Steven Seagal has become active in politics in the last few months in a manner not befitting a World of Western Politicians."
Russia Wants steven seagal as Face of Weapon Industry MOSCOW - Russia is looking at Steven Seagal to be the face of its weapons industry as it guns for first place on the world arms market. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said the action movie star may head up an international marketing campaign to promote the Degtarev arms plant, Russian news agencies reported. He accompanied Seagal on a visit there Tuesday. "You're ready to fight American (manufacturers) with your teeth and your intellect, and if Americans are prepared to promote and support you, that says we're learning new ways to work on corporate warfare markets," Rogozin said. Russian officials are big fans of Seagal, who met President Vladimir Putin in March and claimed to have set up a meeting with Rogozin for a Congressional delegation last week.

Border Report - July The Canada Border services Agency (CBsA) is pleased to share highlights from the border crossings in southern Manitoba
In July 2014 there were more than 167,700 travellers in 64,400 cars and 27,100 commercial trucks. CBsA oďŹƒcers issued 287 work permits and 10 study permits, and granted permanent residency status to 578 people. They also denied entry to 92 foreign nationals for various reasons, including criminality.
A North Carolina man attempted to smuggle two prohibited firearms into Canada. Officers search the man’s vehicle and trailer and found a .38-calibre revolver from inside a cowboy boot and a .40-calibre pistol from under the seat of an ATV he was hauling. 42-year-old David Scott Blankenship pleaded guilty to non-report and making false statements under the Customs Act. He received a sentence of three days (time served) and a penalty of $8,975.
Here are some additional highlights demonstrating how CBSA officers in Manitoba are working to protect the safety and security of Canadians.
A 72-year-old Florida man was travelling to Alaska. When asked whether he had been arrested or stood before a judge, the man told officers he had not. However background checks revealed the man had two convictions for aggravated battery for throwing a woman off of a boat. Officers returned him to the United States.
Emerson West Lynne A 61-year-old Minnesota resident was seeking entry to visit friends in Manitoba. Officers determined he had been convicted of assault and disorderly conduct, making him inadmissible to Canada. The man was refused entry and officers provided him instructions to apply for a temporary resident permit. Curtis Carneal Roberson, a 56-year-old commercial driver from Georgia, attempted to smuggle a prohibited .22-calibre revolver. Officers found the undeclared firearm in a suitcase during a search of the cab. Mr. Roberson pled guilty in Winnipeg Provincial Court to making false statements under the Customs Act. He received a sentence of 45 days in jail. CBSA officers witnessed a taxi driving north in a southbound lane. Officers approached the vehicle and directed it to the northbound lane. Officers examined the occupants and searched the vehicle. The male passenger had a prohibited pepper spray and a knife in his pockets. The man was arrested and the weapons were seized. He was turned over to Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon. A 37-year-old man was planning to go bear hunting in Manitoba. However, he was refused entry for convictions of burglary, aggravated harassment, and criminal contempt. He was returned to the United States and provided with instructions on how to overcome his inadmissibility. CBSA officers intercepted a suspected impaired driver; however, the man refused to provide a breath sample. He was arrested and turned over to RCMP, and was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and operating a vehicle while impaired. Upon his release, CBSA officers returned the man to the United States because he was criminally inadmissible to Canada.
A 21-year-old Minnesota woman told officers she was coming to Canada for about six months. Further checks revealed she was travelling with all her possessions, did not have a current place of residence, and had no employment and insufficient funds to support herself during her trip. Officers found evidence to suggest that she was coming to stay and work in Canada. She was refused entry as a non-genuine visitor and was provided information on how to apply for re-entry, either as a visitor or a resident. A 70-year-old commercial driver was entering Canada with carnival equipment. Officers determined he had multiple charges and two assault-related convictions, making him inadmissible. They advised he would need a rehabilitation waiver to enter Canada, and returned him to the United States. A 58-year-old man was coming to visit a friend for two weeks. He said he did not have a criminal record, but officers uncovered that he had outstanding charges for theft, trespassing, impersonating a police officer and harassing communication. Since the man could not prove the disposition of the charges, officers refused him entry and gave instructions on applying for rehabilitation. A 45-year-old man was seeking entry to visit a friend for a week. Officers determined he was criminally inadmissible for multiple drug convictions, including for the sale/possession of LSD, and had two drunk-driving charges. They refused him entry and advised him of how to apply for rehabilitation. A Nebraska couple became lost and ended up at the border. Officers examined their vehicle and uncovered two grams of suspected marijuana in a cigarette container; the woman claimed she had found it at a rest stop and did not know what it was. Officers seized the drugs and returned the couple to the United States.
A 51-year-old U.S. man was seeking entry to go fishing and admitted to having a drunk-driving conviction. Officers discovered the man had additional convictions for theft, driving while suspended, and domestic assault. He claimed he had received a liver transplant and had lost a lot of his memory as a result. Officers denied him entry for criminality and returned him to the United States. A man was travelling to Ontario to go fishing with his family and said he had never been charged or convicted of a criminal offence. Background checks revealed he had been convicted of conspiracy to commit larceny. The man was criminally inadmissible to Canada and refused entry. Officers advised him of rehabilitation requirements, and all returned to the United States.
Piney A Manitoba man declared approximately US$75 in groceries and US$50 in auto parts. Officers noticed the tires on his pickup truck looked brand new, and saw there were four old tires in the box. The man claimed he had purchased and installed the tires in Manitoba, but officers determined he had actually purchased the tires for US$1,100 in Minnesota. He eventually admitted to being untruthful and gave officers a receipt for the tires. They issued him a penalty of $475. If he had declared them, he would have paid about $50 in goods and services tax for the tires.
Winkler A North Dakota man was entering Canada in a commercial vehicle and declared one tin of chewing tobacco and one pack of cigarettes. CBSA officers conducted an examination of his vehicle and uncovered a bottle of pills that also contained a bag with one gram of suspected marijuana. They seized the contraband, arrested the man, and then released him and returned him to the United States.

17 theories of what happened to Flight MH370 The mystery of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370Flight MH370 whose fate was a mystery that consumed the world had crashed into a remote corner of the Indian ocean, Malaysian PM najib Razak somberly announced.
Officials confirmed on Thursday what we have feared for some time — that a relatively tiny search zone in the southern Indian Ocean is not the final resting place of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. ............................................................................................... From an underwater mission covering 850 sq km (320 sq mile) where acoustic "pings" were heard, the area being searched has now been extended to around a 60,000 sq km (23,100 sq mile) zone based on satellite data which remains disputed in some quarters. ............................................................................................... The Australia-led search control team estimate it could be August — next year — before this region has been covered, and hopes of finding the Boeing 777's flight recorders are becoming increasingly dim. ...............................................................................................
With so much uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of MH370's bizarre disappearance, it has become rich territory for aviation experts, bloggers and conspiracy theorists alike. Here we round up 17 of the most prominent theories as to where the plane could ended up, and what went wrong in the first place.
1. shot down in a military training exercise While the Australian officials leading the search for MH370 say they remain "absolutely convinced" it ended up in the southern Indian Ocean, some passengers' families — and theorists— distrust the unprecedented satellite data analysis involved. Among those who support this view are the British journalist and author Nigel Cawthorne, who has controversially already published the first book on the plane's disappearance. He supports one theory, based on the eye-witness testimony of New Zealand oil rig worker Mike McKay, that the plane was shot down shortly after it stopped communicating with air traffic controllers. At the time there was a series of war games taking place in the South China Sea involving Thailand, the US and personnel from China, Japan, Indonesia and others, and Cawthorne has linked this to Mr McKay's claims to have seen a burning plane going down in the Gulf of Thailand.
2. Flown north and shot down deliberately, prompting cover-up At a stage in the investigation when it was believed the plane could have flown for some time from where it disappeared along either a northern or southern corridor, many posted on forums suggesting that if it had been the former we would never hear about what happened. Some still support this view, and former RAF navigator Sean Maffett told the BBC that after 9/11, any unidentified airliner entering the airspace of another country would lead to fighter jets being scrambled. "If the plane is in the northern arc it could easily have been shot down," he said. This theory also involves a national - or possibly international - cover-up, based on the premise that no country would want to admit to shooting down an airliner full of passengers from all over the world.
3. Flown north in the 'shadow' of another plane Another theory suggests that instead of flying south, the plane flew north in the "shadow" of another airliner around half an hour to an hour after dropping off civilian radar. The aviation blogger Keith Ledgerwood argued that MH370 and Singapore Airlines flight 68 were in the same vicinity at the time, and said: "It became apparent as I inspected SIA68's flight path history that MH370 had manoeuvred itself directly behind SIA68 at approximately 18:00UTC and over the next 15 minutes had been following SIA68." By flying a short distance behind and most likely a little above the altitude of SIA68, also a Boeing 777, Ledgerwood said that it would be able to appear as a single blip on radar screens. SIA68 flew on to Spain - and this theory suggests MH370 could have branched off and landed in one of a number of locations across Xinjiang (north-east China), Kyrgyzstan or Turkmenistan. Experts have said that the idea sounds "feasible", and that even
page 19 if higher-resolution military radar was monitoring SIA68 operators might have dismissed the fact that there were two objects as an technical glitch or echo.
4. Tried to land on a desert island beach After reports that the plane had turned left shortly following its disappearance from civilian radar screens, speculation grew that it could have landed on a remote beach somewhere like the Andaman Islands, which lie between Indonesia and the coast of Thailand. Though CNN reported that locals dismissed the idea a Boeing 777 could land on an airstrip there undetected, the archipelago consists of hundreds of remote islands with some long stretches of sand. Former BA pilot Steve Buzdygan said it would be difficult but not impossible - to bring a 777 down on a long deserted beach .
6. Headed for a remote airport in Langkawi, Malaysia One theory, put forward by another aviation blogger named Chris Goodfellow, has it that the sudden left turn came after major catastrophe knocked out a range of the plane's electronics, from transponders to communications equipment.
5. Landed at a Us military base One of the more outlandish conspiracy theories that has gained some traction online is the idea that MH370 could have been "captured" and flown to a military base on the UK-owned tropical atoll of Diego Garcia, in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The base is run by the US, and some have reportedly said in forum postings that the Kremlin has put some credence into this possibility.
8. An explosion in the cockpit The theory of a sudden explosion within the cockpit before the turn left could explain why there was no attempt to signal for help. Since 9/11 cockpits doors have been fortified to become extremely difficult to bypass, and such a sudden incident could perhaps have incapacitated both pilots while keeping out the rest of the crew. This explanation does not seem to tally with the claims of some Malaysian officials, however, that the change in direction was the result of "seven or eight keystrokes into a computer on a knee-high pedestal between the captain and the first officer".
9. A struggle at altitude
In this scenario and in the middle of the night, Goodfellow argued, the pilot would redirect towards the nearest safe airport. "This pilot did all the right things," he said. "Actually he was taking a direct route to Palau Langkawi, a 13,000ft (4,000m) strip with an approach over water at night with no obstacles. He did not turn back to Kuala Lumpur because he knew he had 8,000ft ridges to cross. He knew the terrain was friendlier towards Langkawi and also a shorter distance." This theory assumes that the plane was in fact controlled manually once it disappeared - and that it did not make it to Langkawi.
7. A ďŹ re throughout the plane
Such is the strength of belief in this theory that the US government has been forced to issue a denial. A spokesperson for the US embassy in Malaysia told the local Star newspaper that there was "no indication that MH370 flew anywhere near the Maldives or Diego Garcia". "MH370 did not land in Diego Garcia," he added.
its fuel ran out. Yet such a fire would be expected to spread with at least some warning - and that surely would have given the pilots time to issue a mayday distress signal.
Many theories accept that the Inmarsat satellite analysis is accurate - that the plane headed south into the Indian Ocean and flew on for hours before a final, partial "handshake" in a remote location thousands of miles off the west coast of Australia. The issue here becomes explaining what happened in the cabin between the last contact with flight controllers and the plane's seemingly inevitable crash far out to see. One suggestion is that a fire broke out, not just in the cockpit but throughout the interior of the plane. The implication is that this resulted in the attempt to turn back, after which the fire killed those on board. This theory would then have it that the fire went out before damaging the exterior of the plane, which flew on autopilot until
Though Malaysian officials believe that the plane was deliberately diverted, and that its communications systems were turned off one after the other, a detailed background check into all 239 people on board has cleared all of suspicion. If, however, we do accept that the plane was the subject of a passenger hijacking, it remains to be explained why the hijackers did not try to do more than fly the plane into the middle of the southern Indian Ocean. One theory suggests that there was some kind of struggle for control of the plane that ultimately ended with mutual destruction. Further analysis of data by Malaysian officials suggests that the plane was flown erratically once it left civilian radar, climbing to 45,000ft before dropping very low. Buzdygan told the BBC he would resort to this sort of flying if faced with would-be hijackers. "I'd try to disorientate and confuse the hijackers by throwing them around," he said.
10. A botched hijack attempt The climb to 45,000ft could also have been carried out by the hijackers once they had taken control - in a bid to kill the passengers on board. At such an altitude it could be possible to depressurise the cabin, causing oxygen supplies to be deployed. These run out after 12-15 minutes and, if those flying the plane had access to another oxygen supply, could have been an attempt to prevent anyone intervening. Under this theory the suggestion is clearly that the attempt failed, killing the hijackers as well. continued on page 25

11. Pilot suicide As part of the ongoing criminal investigation in Malaysia, police are looking into the state of mind and possible motives of the captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah and co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid. The Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar has said that "all possibilities" will be looked into, and there have been reports that Shah was going through a difficult marriage break-up. Yet such comments have been rubbished by the man's relatives, who have described him since as a dedicated family man and model professional. Hugh Dunleavy, the commercial director of Malaysia Airlines, described Shah as a seasoned pilot with an excellent record. "There have been absolutely no implications that we are aware of that there was anything untoward in either his behaviour or attitude," he told Reuters. "We have no reason to believe that there was anything, any actions, internally by the crew that caused the disappearance of this aircraft."
12. sabotage - for a life insurance scam or corporate attack One of the other strands of the criminal investigation regards whether the plane was subject to some form of sabotage - either as part of a life insurance scam or over industrial espionage. Bakar said that when passengers and crew were being investigated, police were looking for "Maybe somebody on the flight has bought a huge sum of insurance, who wants family to gain from it or somebody who has owed somebody so much money, you know, we are looking at all possibilities." There were also 20 employees of the US silicon chip company Freescale Semiconductor on board the plane at the time, and a retired Delta Airlines pilot has suggested the plane's disappearance was an attempt to steal technology the engineers had applied - but not yet received - a patent for.
13. A CIA cover-up Finally, the former prime minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad has waded in with his own theory - suggesting that, one way or another, the CIA is definitely hiding something. In a blog entry posted on 18 May entitled 'Boeing Technology - What goes up must come down', Dr Mahathir Mohamad makes ten claims including that the plane was taken over remotely by officials working for Boeing and the CIA. "The plane is somewhere, maybe without MAS markings," reads Dr Mohamad's post on chedet. "Someone is hiding something. It is not fair that MAS and
Captain Zaharie Ahmad shah and co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid Malaysia should take the blame," 88-year-old Dr Mahathir, who was Malaysia's prime minister between 1981 and 2003, alleges. "Airplanes don't just disappear," he said, concluding: "For some reason the media will not print anything that involves Boeing or the CIA. I hope my readers will read this." Boeing have denied Dr Mohamed's theory.
14. MH370 itself could be used as a weapon Some people have expressed concern that the aeroplane may have been hijacked by terrorists and landed somewhere, to be used as a weapon at a later date. The proponents of the theory suggest that the plane could have been flown to a safe place, landed and camouflaged and may, at some point, be used to commit a 9/11style atrocity. Former RAF navigator Sean Maffett told the BBC that in his view this would be very hard to do, but that the possibility cannot be ruled out. "We are now at stage where very, very difficult things have to be considered as all sensible options seem to have dropped off," he said.
they ring! In person reports even that his call was answered but then was disconnected. Cell phones don’t work if they are underwater. If they were underwater, they would not ring. However, a person calling a cell phone could hear ringing even when the cell phone is shut off. But this is not a general rule internationally. For example, when Greek cell phone is shut off and someone will try to call that number, it won’t ring. Instead the calling person gets a message that there is no proper connection with an offer to take a message. So the interpretation of the ringing depends on the particular service that the cell phone was using. Also there was the unusual radar activity over Malaysia that is most disturbing of all. The media has been playing this down by simply saying that flight controllers have been unable to properly interpret the radar records. But according to the story by journalist
15. A heist? The aircraft was not fully occupied by passengers. Some 50 seats were flown empty, apparently not due to lack of people wanting to board the flight. This could suggest a heavy cargo on board. Some have speculated that this could have been due to a valuable cargo such as several tons of gold.
16. The UFo Connection Suspicion has begun to emerge that there may be a UFO abduction connection. Two things don’t fit in with a typical crash. First there is the fact that people have called the cell phones of their loved one’s and
Steven Cook, while flight MH370 was in flight and just 250 km out from its departure airport, a UFO appeared on the radar map about 350 km to its southeast, transformed into a an apparent plane signal on the map, and then sped off to the northeast at about five times the speed of the other jets; i.e., at mach 3.5, only to come to a complete halt at the edge of the radar map and sit there motionless! continued on page 26
page 26
continued from page 25 At this time flight MH370 was about 330 km from its take-off location, and then after traveling just 20 more km (after the UFO has stalled out motionless), it also begins to momentarily stall out and make unusual jerk-like cuts to the left and right. These jerk-like flight corrections continue and then when the plane has traveled about 140 km from the point where these jerk-like flight cuts began, its altitude suddenly drops to zero, then at zero altitude the plane suddenly “shoots” 20 km forward along its previous northeast flight course at a speed of ~Mach 5, then continues forward for about 5 kilometers at its previous cruising speed (but again at zero altitude) at which point it vanishes into thin air! All these events from the point the jerks begin until the point the plane disappears would have transpired within the space of just 17 minutes! "Malaysia's air force chief, Rodzali Daud, said military radar detected an UFO in an area in the northern Malacca Strait at 2:15 a.m. local time on Saturday about an hour after the plane vanished from air traffic control screens." He added: “The U.S. military monitors everything using sonar, radar and satellites. I’m certain satellites observed what really happened, but that’s a truth that can’t be revealed.” OK, this may be a flight of imagination. But with some of the Planet Earth strange goings on so far, it does not seem that far out.
17. Who were 20 Freescale semiconductor Experts on Board? Freescale Semiconductor has been developing microprocessors, sensors and other technology for the past 50 years. The technology it creates is commonly referred to as embedded processors, which according to the firm are "standalone semiconductors that perform dedicated computing functions in electronic systems". Are the links between the plane's mysterious disappearance and the radar-blocking capabilities developed and produced by Freescale Semiconductor aeronautical hardware technology have been somehow connected? The company also has developed technology that mimics a maintenance cell phone signal, that commands the cell network to "sleep". Until this very moment there is no explanation for this topic. Subject remained mysterious and unanswered. The 20 passengers on board were engineers and other experts working to make Freescale Semiconductor chip facilities in Tianjin and Kuala Lumpur more efficient, said Mitch Haws, vice-president, global communications and investor relations. "These were people with a lot of experience and technical background and they were very important people," Haws said. "It's definitely a loss for the company." The company had been streamlining facilities in Tianjin and Kuala Lumpur for testing and packaging microchips used in auto-

Malaysian plane: Freescale semiconductor which had 20 workers on MH370 had just launched new radar chips. Freescale Semiconductor, which makes powerful microchips for industries including defence, released the powerful new products to the American market on March 3. Five days later, Flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur for Beijing with 239 people on board including 20 working for Freescale. Twelve were from Malaysia, while eight were Chinese nationals. Freescale’s spokesman Mitch Haws has said: “These were all people with a lot of experience and technical background – they were very important.” “It’s definitely a loss for the company.”
Freescale semiconductor makes powerful microchips mobiles, consumer products, telecommunications infrastructure and industrial equipment. Other report also references a story from Fox News of Freescale Semiconductor involvment in new stealth technology which makes airplanes invisible to radar, and can also make them hard to spot with the naked eye. "The general public might not hear about how far the US has really come, because it is and should remain strictly classified," noted firearms expert Chris Sajnog, a former Navy Seal. Why did it take several days for seemingly crucial information like the radar pings to be released? Why were the backgrounds of the pilots not immediately investigated? Why was the reporting of credible news sources being dismissed as conspiracy? But the main questions that arise are why were there so many Freescale employees traveling together? What were their jobs? Their mission? And did they employees carry valuable cargo?
Freescale’s shareholders include the Carlyle Group of private equity investors whose past advisers have included ex-US president George Bush Sr and former British Prime Minister John Major. Carlyle’s previous heavyweight clients include the Saudi Binladin Group, the construction firm owned by the family of Osama bin Laden. The fact that Freescale had so many highly qualified staff on board the Boeing 777 had already prompted wild conspiracy theories about what might have happened. The company says they were flying to China to improve its consumer products operations, but Freescale’s fresh links to electronic warfare technology is likely to trigger more speculation and deepen the mystery. *** Experts have been baffled how a large passenger jet seems to have flown undetected and possibly beaten military radar systems for up to six hours. Avoiding radar via “cloaking technology” has long been one of the objectives of the defence industry and Freescale has been active developing chips for military radar. On its website, the company says its radio frequency products meet the requirements for applications in “avionics, radar, communications, missile guidance, electronic warfare and identification friend or foe”. Last June it announced it was creating a team of specialists dedicated to producing “radio frequency power products” for the defence industry.

The company did not respond to any questions from reporters and/or International Media, including whether any of its missing employees had been working on the defence products. It neither provided any responses to the latest bizarre conspiracy theory being widely published on the comments sections of newspaper websites and other internet forums.
Some comment reads: Have you pieced together the puzzle of missing flight 370 to Beijing China? If not, here are your missing pieces. Patents Patents Patents. Four days after the missing flight MH370 a patent is approved by the Patent Office, four of the five Patent holders are Chinese employees of Freescale Semiconductor of Austin TX. Patent is divided up on 20 per cent increments to five holders. Peidong Wang, Suzhou, China, (20 per cent); Zhijun Chen, Suzhou, China, (20 per cent); Zhihong Cheng, Suzhou, China, (20 per cent); Li Ying, Suzhou, China, (20 per cent); Freescale
Semiconductor (20 per cent). “If a patent holder dies, then the remaining holders equally share the dividends of the deceased if not disputed in a will.” “If four of the five dies, then the remaining one Patent holder gets 100 per cent of the wealth of the patent.” “That remaining live Patent holder is Freescale Semiconductor.” It adds: “Here is your motive for the missing Beijing plane. As all four Chinese members of the Patent were passengers on the missing plane.” The search continues for Flight MH370 but speculation surrounding its fate grows by the day.
Because There Is a War On For Your Mind Most people can’t resist getting the details on the latest conspiracy theories, no matter how far-fetched they may seem. At the same time, many people quickly denounce any conspiracy theory as untrue … and sometimes as unpatriotic or just plain ridiculous. Lets not forget all of the thousands of conspiracies out of Wall street like Bernie Madoff and many others to commit fraud and extortion, among many crimes of conspiracy. Conspiracy theory is a term that originally was a neutral descriptor for any claim of civil, criminal or political conspiracy. However, it has come almost exclusively to refer to any fringe theory which explains a historical or current event as the result of a secret plot by conspirators of almost superhuman power and cunning. To conspire means “to join in a secret agreement to do an unlawful or wrongful act or to use such means to accomplish a lawful end.” The term “conspiracy theory” is frequently used by scholars and in popular culture to identify secret military, banking, or political actions aimed at stealing power, money, or freedom, from “the people”. To many, conspiracy theories are just human nature. Not all people in this world are honest, hard working and forthcoming about their intentions. Certainly we can all agree on this. So how did the term “conspiracy theory” get grouped in with fiction, fantasy and folklore? Maybe that’s a conspiracy, just kidding. Or are we? Skeptics are important in achieving an objective view of reality, however, skeptism is not the same as reinforcing the official storyline. In fact, a conspiracy theory can be argued as an alternative to the official or “mainstream” story of events. Therefore, when skeptics attempt to ridicule a conspiracy theory by using the official story as a means of proving the conspiracy wrong, in effect, they
conspiracy theories in a condescending tone, usually with the words “kool-aid,” “crack pot,” or “nut job” in their articulation. This must be obvious to anyone that emotionally writing about such serious matter insults the reader more than the conspiracy theorist because there is no need to resort to this kind of behavior. It is employed often with an “expert” who will say something along the lines of, “for these conspiracies to be true, you would need hundreds if not thousands of people to be involved. It’s just not conceivable.”
are just reinforcing the original “mainstream” view of history, and actually not being skeptical. This is not skeptism, it is just a convenient way for the establishment view of things to be seen as the correct version, all the time, every time. In fact, it is common for “hit pieces” or “debunking articles” to pick extremely fringe and not very populated conspiracy theories. This in turn makes all conspiracies on a subject matter look crazy. Skeptics magazine and Popular Mechanics, among many others, did this with 9/11. They referred to less than 10% of the many different conspiracy theories about 9/11 and picked the less popular ones, in fact, they picked the fringe, highly improbable points that only a few people make. This was used as the “final investigation” for looking into the conspiracy theories. Convenient, huh? In fact, if one were to look into conspiracy theories, they will largely find that thinking about a conspiracy is associated with lunacy and paranoia. Some websites suggest it as an illness. It is also not surprising to see so many people on the internet writing about
One more thing to consider, have you noticed that if the conspiracy is involving powerful interests with the ability to bribe, threaten or manipulate major institutions (like the mafia, big corporations or government) then don’t you find it odd when people use one of those as the “credible” counter-argument? What we mean is, if you are discussing a conspiracy about the mafia, and someone hands you a debunking article that was written by the mafia, it doesn’t seem like it would take rocket science to look at that with serious criticism and credibility. This is the case with many conspiracies. In fact, we are handed debunking pieces all the time written in many cases by the conspirators in question. Doesn’t this seem odd to anybody else but us? While intelligent cynicism certainly can be healthy, though, some of the greatest discoveries of all time were initially received (often with great vitriol) as blasphemous conspiracy theories — think of the revelation that the earth was not the center of the universe, or that the world was not flat but actually round. What follows are some of these most shocking modern conspiracy theories that turned out true after thorough investigation by our society. Some through congressional hearings, others through investigative journalism. Many of these, however, were just admitted to by those involved.

Progress in Washington has been slow, however, with state regulators still processing more than 300 license applications, and approved growers producing only limited harvests so far. Frustrated consumers in Seattle, a city of some 630,000 people, made light of the shortages, with one Twitter user urging outlets to adopt a green "Pot Light" system for their windows to show they had stock - similar to the Hot Light employed by a well-known donut brand.

setting the Record straight A Response to “5 diseases Proven to Respond Better to Cannabis than Prescription drugs” The problem of publishing articles on drugs or treatments of medical conditions in a widely distributed newspaper is primarily two-fold. First, the standards for publication are nowhere near as rigorous as that of medical journal review articles or original research which healthcare professionals refer to on a regular basis. Second, the readership is composed mostly of laypersons in the general public who do not have the adequate evidence based training to carefully consider the accuracy of the points being made and so misinformation
can potentially have a very harmful effect if it actually influences patient decision making. The provocatively titled article “5 Diseases Proven to Respond Better to Cannabis than Prescription Drugs” from Issue #32 of the Northern Echo (June) is an excellent example of the problem I just described in the preceding paragraph. To those with an educated background in healthcare (especially pharmaceutical science), the article reads as a successful selective reporting of quotes and information which simultaneously elevates marijuana to seeming wonder-drug status and denigrates mainstream ‘tried and true’ evidence based pharmacotherapy. Such an article only reinforces the author’s confirmation bias and the preconceived notions of other Cannabis enthusiasts. Throughout the article, many scientific details regarding drug pharmacology, adverse drug events and disease pathophysiology are accurately conveyed but misrepresented to falsely bolster the author’s argument. For example, there is significant emphasis placed on the known adverse drug effects of various prescription medications such as anticonvulsants and stimulants for ADHD however, he makes no report of the incidence for how often these events occur (the most serious events generally occur in 1 % or less of all patients exposed). The article also failed to mention the well documented consequences that
Northern Echo:
may occur from chronic use of Marijuana such as lung cancer, dependency, intense anxiety, panic or dysphoria and the modest albeit significant association to psychotic episodes in young people who may already be pre-disposed to mental illness. This is all the more concerning when we consider that it is being promoted for use in ADHD (an illness which primarily affects children and adolescents). The use of Cannabis in patients may indeed provide comfort from pain or cancer, but to extrapolate small human studies, in vitro (not in human) or animal experiment results, and (potentially biased) patient survey results, to clinical practice is rather hasty and presumptuous especially when this makes up a large part of the argument for Cannabis being “better than prescription drugs”. Furthermore, the appeal to authority is substantial throughout the article, as numerous pro-cannabis physicians and researchers offer quotes for Mr. Torres to gladly cite. However, it should be kept in mind that this part of the scientific clinical community is still currently on the fringe of the accepted standards of medical practice by the majority in most jurisdictions. I would like to expressly declare that I am neither for nor against Cannabis for medical use in general. I am not the preeminent expert in this sub-field of drug research but I do believe that it

does have a significant clinical benefit in certain conditions and for certain select people. However, it must be kept in mind that the quality of evidence for its use varies considerably between indications and the conditions being treated. Based on the available current information in the majority of reputable sources, I can confidently claim that Cannabis has simply not been at all “proven” to be better than the prescription drugs used for their respective medical conditions. Lastly, I think it is important to make the obvious acknowledgement that the possession of Marijuana is currently illegal in Manitoba unless it is obtained appropriately through a physician via a special access program. Articles such as the one under discussion may indirectly increase drug seeking behavior even if it is for personal use under the best intentions and so a disclaimer should have been made. In closing, a greater degree of social responsibility and caution should be exercised by authors and editorial teams when publishing articles of this nature and the objectivity of information in approximating truth should be of the utmost importance. If you talk to the real experts, mainly in the USA today, where cannabis is available as a medicine, they will tell you that they have university degrees in the field of medicine and that it should be available as a safer alternative to pharmaceutical drugs. These experts have studied the subject for a long time and yet the authorities in places such as *Guernsey choose to ignore this expert advice and punish anybody who is found in possession of cannabis, even if it is for a genuine medical complaint. So why is it that the health authorities, police and the courts still refuse to make the changes to this 80-year-old law? I personally would rather use a natural herb than a cocktail of chemicals, if the law permitted me to do so, for certain medical complaints. After all, don’t we use herbs in our food? The problem with legalising cannabis is having the necessary controls in place to stop younger persons obtaining it. Big Pharma Blocking Feds From Legalizing Marijuana? by Mike Adams While most of America is still struggling to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes, a handful of large pharmaceutical companies are already generating a substantial amount of revenue from prescription drugs based on cannabis medicine. Nevertheless, some of the largest drug companies in the world, like GW Pharmaceuticals, AbbVie and Valeant Pharmaceuticals, have developed prescription drugs, consisting of marijuana compounds, that are currently being prescribed to patients all over the planet for various diseases from multiple sclerosis to cancer…yet, marijuana remains, for the most part, illegal. One of the most highly publicized drugs is GW Pharmaceuticals’ Sativex, which is comprised of the two main active compounds found in marijuana: THC and cannabidiol. It has currently been approved in 25 countries, but not yet in the United States. The FDA recently approved GW to begin clinical trials, which could result in the drug being marketed in the US as the latest cancer treatment.
Others that have been on the market for sometime, and have already received FDA approval, are Marinol and Cesamet, which are used to help relieve nausea and loss of appetite in those suffering from cancer and AIDS. These pills are nothing more than synthetic THC, which is interesting considering marijuana, whose main ingredient is THC, has been classified a Schedule I dangerous substance with no medicinal value by the Drug Enforcement Administration. (???) All of these approved medications range in cost from hundreds of dollars per month to tens of thousands per year.
The Paradox of Marijuana I once took a "personality" test during a job interview. Maybe you're familiar with it, lots of questions about morality and judgement, like. "It's wrong to steal from your employer. Agree / Disagree." One of the questions was "Stereotypes are based on truths. Agree / Disagree." To this day, I'm not sure which answer they were looking for on that one. To agree reveals a type of prejudice, and to disagree is to
page 35 in assigning a drug to the Schedule I list. So US government simultaneously claims marijuana has no medical value, meanwhile it holds a patent describing marijuana's medical value. The other defining difference between Schedule I and Schedule II is that a Schedule I drug has no accepted safe use. Marijuana has a hundred compounds in it, but the physical and psychological effects are produced by cannabinoids (discussed above) and THC. Synthetic THC is made by Abbott Pharmaceuticals, who had 2012 revenues of $40 Billion. Synthetic THC is sold as dronabinol, and mardeny a common repeating pattern. There are a lot of stereotypes associated with marijuana users... like they're all unwashed dreadlocked unemployed hippies. Last night I saw CNN's "Marijuana Inc." where a couple who drove to Humboldt sought work as bud trimmers. They showed the guy smoking a bowl, and of course, he was an unwashed, dreadlocked, and unemployed. But most marijuana users take umbrage at those stereotypes. It just so happens that all of the hippies I've known have smoked marijuana, but their unkempt appearance and minimal hygiene were not byproducts of extended drug use the way you would find with junkies and meth addicts, rather their disregard for the commonly accepted notion of possessions were incidental to their marijuana use. Take away the marijuana, and they were still just as happy. I find that marijuana is a paradox. On the one hand it placates the basest desires - give a joint, a burrito, and a blanket to someone who has nothing and they're good for a few hours. But on the other hand it awakens a gnawing sense of discontent - give someone making $26,000 a joint, and they'll start thinking about advancing their position in life. Give someone making $100,000 a joint and they'll start thinking about all that is missing from their life. To me, weed clarifies my desires and lets my heart cry out for what it wants, but chronic use becomes the thing that prevents me from obtaining it all. While marijuana prohibition has been in effect for close to 100 years, it only became classified as Schedule I in 1972, during the presidency of Richard Nixon. At the time, Nixon was battling two wars: One in Vietnam, and the other in the USA against the people protesting the war in Vietnam. As part of his strategy of domestic suppression, he made marijuana illegal. The United States Department of Health and Human Services owns a patent on marijuana use. U.S. Patent # 6630507 specifies the use of cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants. But the DEA, in conjunction with the FDA, who is in charge scheduling controlled substances and enforcing the law, claims that cannabinoids have no medical value. A lack of medical value is the deciding criteria
keted under the brand name Marinol which is a Schedule III drug. For the record, the FDA claims 4 people have died from Marinol overdose. And yet in the history of mankind no person has ever died from a marijuana overdose. Therefore one has to interpret the FDA's stance on "safe use" to mean that any marijuana use, though nonfatal, is unsafe. How can the FDA claim marijuana exposure is unsafe, but
cannabinoids and synthetic THC are? I think this leads us to the crux of the issue: What, exactly, is "unsafe" about marijuana consumption? Given my experience that marijuana diminishes immediate need consumerism while amplifying big picture discontent, one can see how the status quo depends on keeping marijuana illegal. We are all slaves to capitalism, just as the people who live in The Matrix were merely a source of energy, we are all seen by the ruling class as providing fuel for our economic engine. They say that ending marijuana prohibition would result in a $43 Billion economic shift. Monies spent on black market marijuana would no longer go to drug cartels and instead go to local businesses, employing local workers. Taxes would be collected. Law enforcement would be able to focus on violent crime. About 3/4 of a million arrests would stop clogging our courts, with less money wasted on attorneys and fines. Approximately *50,000 prisoners would be released, relieving the burden on the for-profit prison system. Arrests, court appearances and incarceration all decrease worker productivity. But beyond the immediate, beneficial economic shift would be an underlying one more upsetting to the balance of the status quo. I believe the unsatiated desires that make consumers load up on plastic crap would be replaced by a minimalist frame of mind. The money saved would allow people to spend more on higher quality foods, forcing a trend towards organics and against GMO. Instead of drinking ourselves into oblivion on Friday night, North Americans would spend time learning how to get high, and by that I don't mean the art of inhaling smoke, I mean directing your mind to become more receptive to being elevated. Instead of dogmatically following a religion, people might be inclined to seek and find their own definition of .... you think what? It's no wonder why ending prohibition scares the c..p out of the ruling class. *I missed an obvious economic shift. The average cost of incarceration per prisoner is $30,000. If 50,000 prisoners were let go, that would amount to $1.5 Billion taken away from the prisons, many of which are private.

field around with it," Floberghagen said. "So, a field weakening over the American continent would mean that the flow in the outer core below America is slowing down." The Swarm satellites not only pick up signals coming from the Earth's magnetic field, but also from its core, mantle, crust and oceans. Scientists at the ESA hope to use the data to make navigation systems that rely on the magnetic field, such as aircraft instruments, more accurate, improve earthquake predictions and pinpoint areas below the planet's surface that are rich in natural resources. Scientists think fluctuations in the magnetic field could help identify where continental plates are shifting and help predict earthquakes. These first results from Swarm were presented at the Third Swarm Science Meeting in Denmark on June 19.
Li-Fi: Light Provides data At 10 gigabytes Per second Sisoft Company in Mexico has developed a technology that can illuminate a large work space, an auditorium or an office, while providing full mobile internet to every device that comes into the range of the light spectrum. The Mexican group managed to transmit audio, video and Internet across the spectrum of light emitted by LED lamps. This new technology, called Li-Fi or light fidelity, is presented as an alternative to Wi-Fi because it will maximize the original provided speed of the internet to offer safer data transfer and a transfer rate of up to 10 gigabytes per second.
The Li-Fi device circulates data via LEDs that emit an intermittent flicker at a speed imperceptible to the human eye. “As WiFi uses cables to spread our connections, wireless transmission Li-Fi uses LED lamps that emit high brightness light”, said Arturo Campos Fentanes, CEO of Sisoft in Mexico. Another advantage in comparison to Wi-Fi is that there is no way to hack the signal since the internet is transmitted by light, there is no way to “steal it”. Furthermore, it can be installed in hospitals areas that use radiation apparatus and generally block or distort internet signal, Campos Fentanes said. With this new technology expansion through the market is seeked, with lower costs and a service increased by five thousand
percent internet speed. Currently in Mexico the highest transfer rate is 200 megabytes per second. Just to get an idea, with Li-Fi you could quickly download an entire HD movie in just 45 seconds or less. Also known as visible light communications (VLC), this technology began with an internet speed of two Gigabits per second, but Sisoft along with researchers from the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) adapted the system to be multiplied five times. Campos Fentanes explained that the first experiments were conducted with audio, in which a cable is connected via 3.5 mm audio Jack from a smartphone to a protoboard table to transform the auditory signal in optical waves. That way a special emitter transmits data across the spectrum of light generated by an LED lamp and is captured by a receptor located in a speaker that reproduces sound. For wireless internet transmission, the mechanics is similar. The station developed by Sisoft of Mexico stands above the router device that distributes the internet signal and a lamp-LED is incorporated to maximize the speed of data transfer. Light will emulate an antenna, but only the electronic apparatus that has the receptor for the “optical audio” signal and is inside the range of the halo of light will have a connection.
China shifting from the world’s factory to World Infrastructure builder and funder Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, known as the BRICS, had approved the creation of the $100 billion reserve fund and $50 billion bank at July 15-16 summit. The IMF controls SDR 476 billion and has 90.5 million troy ounces of gold. The IMF’s gold holdings amount to about 90.5 million troy ounces (2,814.1 metric tons officially, non officially 4 times the amount), making the IMF the third largest official holder of gold in the world.
The BRICS initiatives are born out of frustration with a lack of participation in global governance, particularly in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, said Arvind Subramanian, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. The measures aren’t big enough to boost growth or cohesion in the
group as foreign investor sentiment sours and member states focus on issues close to home, such as Brazil’s elections, the conflict in Ukraine and new economic policy plans in India. The new development bank, which won’t impose policy requirements on borrowers, will help fill fast-growing infrastructure financing needs, said Kevin Gallagher, professor of international relations at Boston University. The BRICS can also use it to pressure developed countries, particularly the U.S., to advance stalled measures to make global financial institutions more equitable, he said.
“They can say, ‘look, we have an alternative,’” Gallagher said in a phone interview. “It gives you a lot of political leverage.” With an expected startup capital of $50 billion financed equally by the five members, the bank could lend $3.4 billion per year in a decade, according to a March study by the UN Conference on Trade and Development. That compares with the $61 billion the World Bank expects to lend this year. The BRICS bank, along with the separate $50 billion Asian infrastructure bank, is another way for China to get higher returns on its $3.9 trillion reserves than it does from buying U.S. Treasuries, said Oliver Rui, professor of finance and accounting at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, the favorite city to headquarter the bank. * Other countries are helping to double what China puts into the BRICS and Asian Infrastructure bank * China gets more global influence * China gets help funding more projects which will likely mostly go to best infrastructure building companies in the world (which are the Chinese train, road and bridge companies) * China shifts from being just the world's factory to the World's funder and builder of Infrastructure If this works then the developing world will catch up on the backlog of needed infrastructure and the least developed countries should have accelerated development. The least developed countries will no longer be short of roads, rail, water projects and other needed construction. China avoids or delays any over-development bubble that many critics were claiming. Clearly the projects that help China get to the mineral resources of other countries will get priority. The US is the world's policeman and world's shopper but China will be the world factory worker and construction worker and lender.
page 37 Country Lane A husband and wife were driving down a country lane on their way to visit some friends. They came to a muddy patch in the road and the car became bogged. After a few minutes of trying to get the car out by themselves, they saw a young farmer coming down the lane, driving some oxen before him. He stopped when he saw the couple in trouble and offered to pull the car out of the mud for $ 50. The husband accepted and minutes later the car was free. The farmer turned to the husband and said, " You know, you're the tenth car I've helped out of the mud today. The husband looks around at the fields incredulously and asks the farmer, " When do you have time to plough your land? At night? " No, the young farmer replied seriously, " Night is when I put the water in the hole "

Air Force one crashes Air Force One crashed in the middle of rural America. Panic stricken the Secret Service mobilized and descended on the farm in force. When they got there, the wreckage was clear. The aircraft was totally destroyed with only a burned hulk left smoldering in a tree line that bordered a farm. Secret Service descended upon the smoking hulk but could find no remains of the crew or the President's staff. To their amazement, a lone farmer was plowing a field not too far away as if nothing at all happened. They hurried over to surround the man's tractor. " Sir, the senior Secret Service agent asked, panting and out of breath. " Did you see this terrible accident happen? " Yep. Sure did. The man muttered unconcernedly. " Do you realize that is the President of the United States airplane? " Yep. " Were there any survivors? the agent gasped. " Nope. They's all kilt straight out. The farmer sighed cutting off
his tractor motor. " I done buried them all myself. Took most of the morning. " The President of the United States is dead? The agent gulped in disbelief. " Well, the farmer sighed, obviously wanting to get back to his work. " He kept a-saying he wasn't ... but you know what a liar he is.
Truck stop A man on a small bussiness trip stopped at a small truck stop for lunch. When his food arrived he said a silent prayer and bowed his head, as he always does before meals. When he lifted his head the truck driver beside him said, " I see you've eaten here before.
Blind Pilots One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner are seated waiting for the pilot to show up so they can get under way. The pilot and copilot finally appear in the rear of the plane and begin walking up to the cockpit through the center aisle. Both appear to be blind; the pilot is using a white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle. The copilot is using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with sunglasses. At first, the passengers do not react thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. After a few minutes though, the engines start revving, and the airplane begins moving down the runway. The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness. They start whispering among themselves and look desperately to the stewardesses for reassurance. Yet, the plane starts accelerating rapidly, and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical. When the plane has less than twenty feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone screams at once. At the very last moment, the plane lifts off and is airborne. Up in the cockpit, the copilot breathes a sigh of relief and tells the pilot : " You know, one of these days the passengers aren't going to scream, and we aren't going to know when to take off!
drunk driver? A cop waited outside a popular pub hoping to nab a drink-driver. At closing time, as everyone came out, he spotted his potential quarry. The man was so obviously inebriated that he could barely walk. He stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes looking for his car. After trying his keys on five others, he finally found his own vehicle. He sat in the car a good 1 0 minutes as the other pub patrons left. He turned his lights on, then off. He started to pull forward into the grass, then stopped.
Finally, when his was the last car, he pulled out onto the road and started to drive away. The cop, waiting for this, turned on his lights and pulled the man over. He administered the breathalyzer test and, to his great surprise, the man easily passed. The cop was dumbfounded. ' This equipment must be broken, exclaimed the policeman. ' I doubt it, said the man. ' Tonight I'm the designated decoy.
Boarding from what gate? At the airport for a business trip, I settled down to wait for the boarding announcement at Gate 35. Then I heard the voice on the public address system saying, " We apologize for the inconvenience, but Air Canada Flight 570 will board from Gate 41. So my family picked up our luggage and carried it over to Gate 41. Not ten minutes later the public address voice told us that Flight 570 would in fact be boarding from Gate 35. So, again, we gathered our carry-on luggage and returned to the original gate. Just as we were settling down, the public address voice spoke again : " Thank you for participating in Air Canada's physical fitness program.
What was the problem before? Taxiing down the tarmac, the jetliner abruptly stopped, turned around and returned to the gate. After an hour-long wait, it finally took off. A concerned passenger asked the flight attendant, " What was the problem? " The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in the engine, explained the Flight Attendant, " and it took us a while to find a new pilot.
There's a parrot on the plane On reaching his plane seat a man is surprised to see a parrot strapped in next to him. He asks the stewardess for a coffee where upon the parrot squawks " And get me a whisky you cow! The stewardess, flustered, brings back a whisky for the parrot and forgets the coffee. When this omission is pointed out to her the parrot drains its glass and bawls " And get me another whisky you idiot ". Quite upset, the girl comes back shaking with another whisky but still no coffee. Unaccustomed to such slackness the man tries the parrot's approach " I've asked you twice for a coffee, go and get it now or I'll kick you ". The next moment, both he and the parrot have been wrenched up and thrown out of the emergency exit by two burly stewards. Plunging downwards the parrot turns to him and says " For someone who can't fly, you complain too much!
