From us, for you
Here’s to you. North Pointe is more than the title of our paper. It is our family. Room B-302 is a home for all of us. Although our initial reasons for joining may have been divergent, it was ultimately you that made us develop a deep-rooted bond with our fellow staff members. The 7:45 a.m. Monday mornings, the 3-7 p.m. production nights, the extra hours during tutorial and lunch we put in was so we could create a quality product for you. Over the years we’ve become experts in stalking as we’ve procured your phone numbers without your knowledge. We’ve learned to fearlessly ask the incessant question of ‘can I interview you?’ and follow-up for more information. But don’t worry. It was all for the sake of providing you with our bi-weekly physical manifestation of our blood, sweat and tears. Throughout the years, the repetitive cycle of curating ideas, interviewing, writing stories and designing pages has been ingrained in us. Carefully examining whether or not photos have .25 borders or adding em dashes where necessary became second nature as we pored over printed pages. We even learned to handle power outages and InDesign crashes right before we had to submit pages with as much composure as we could muster.
But amidst all of the craziness that ensues in room B-302, our adviser Shari Adwers served as a ray of light. She stood by us during our triumphs and criticism. She fostered our creativity and saw a unique individual in each of us. She shared this home with us and made our paper possible. So now that you’ve gotten a chance to peer inside the psyche of a perpetually stressed North Pointe staff member, know you are the reason that our stress and hard work has meaning. Whether you’ve been a casual skimmer or dedicated reader, if you have picked up an issue of the North Pointe, we thank you.
Sincerely,
THE NORTH POINTE SENIORS
