Heavy Duty Mechanic – Elkford Responsible for the diagnosis, repair, maintenance and assembly of Komatsu machines, your career will have you working on some of the largest mobile mining equipment in the world. Under the guidance of the Mechanical Foreman, you will be responsible for:
Performing assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs and complete overhauls on mobile mining equipment. Diagnosing faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required. Making recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement. Interpret work orders and service manuals in order to complete the required servicing.
Qualification
Journeyman ticket or interprovincial Red Seal HET. Must have the ability to follow, use shop manuals, able to use laptop for diagnostics and research. Must possess a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence and have acute safety awareness. Must have knowledge of repair and remanufacturing experience on mobile mining equipment.

Long job-searches can be disheartening, but don’t give up. Alberta’s unemployment rate is below five per cent, the second lowest in the country, and there are thousands of jobs listed on the Canada-Alberta Job Bank www.jobbank.gc.ca. Hiring tends to slow down in the summer – that may be partly why you’re still looking, but fall is here and employers are looking to hire. Here are some ideas and tips to help you supercharge your job search and get back to work sooner. Use your network of friends and family along with your former colleagues, classmates, supervisors and supplier contacts know that you are looking for a new job. Many jobs are filled by word-of-mouth alone. Networking is a great way to tap into that hidden job market. Send everyone you know an e-mail letting them know what kind of job you are looking for along with a quick summary of your skills, training and experience. Attach your resumé if you feel comfortable or include a link to your LinkedIn profile if you have one. And don’t forget to clean up and update your social media (e.g., Facebook) sites. Register with recruitment agencies. Agencies will not look for a job for you, but they will call you if you are a good match for a position they are recruiting for. Registering is free, takes very little time, and is another great way to tap into the hidden job market. Expand your job search. Many people make the mistake of limiting their job search to their specific occupation or industry. Take an inventory of your transferable skills and consider opportunities in related occupations and industries. For help identifying your transferable skills, visit the ALIS web site (http://alis.alberta.ca) and check out the tip sheets on skills. Polish your resumé. You have a resumé, but is it representing you as well as it should? Recruiters spend as little as 30 seconds glancing at your resumé—does yours scream “I’m perfect for this job”? Check out the resumé tips on the ALIS web site and put their free online Resumé Review service to work for you. Attend job fairs. Did you know that there are job fairs happening all year long around the province? Check out upcoming job fairs near you at http://humanservices.alberta.ca/jobfairs. Follow your local Alberta Works social media channel to get the latest job postings and job fair news.
