Freckles Animal ID: 88873 Name: Freckles Age: Unknown Sex: Female Species: Rabbit Breed: Short Hair Rabbit Color: Black

Included in the adoption fee:

- Spay/Neuter surgery (done before being placed up for adoption) - Microchipping - First set of vaccines - Complimentary post-adoption vet exam - And so much more!

My name is Freckles! I am a beautiful ebony girl with the cutest white speckle dusting my nose. My foster mom says that I am the friendliest bunny she has ever had the pleasure of caring for. I love to binky all over the place; I jump and twist and thump and love every second of freedom when I am out of my cage! Make sure I get exercise time each day, cause I’m a fitness fanatic! I have spent a lot of time around small children and I adore them — I enjoy chasing them around and seeing if they have treats. My favourite snacks are parsley, kale, lettuce, apples and bananas. Providing fresh fruits and veggies daily as well as unlimited access to hay will keep me healthy and happy. I am fine to be picked up as long as you hold me securely so that I feel safe. I don't bite, but will nibble to see if you have something good to eat! Shredding paper is a favourite pastime, so please give me paper towel rolls, wood chews, or an old phone back so I can play in my cage. I am happy when you rearrange and clean my house and don't mind hands being in my space. If you are looking for a friendly, outgoing, social, and funny bun to add to your family, I am the girl for you!

Working Wise Dear Working Wise: We have a tip jar at the cash register where I work, but the coffee shop owner splits the tips with us. Is the store owner allowed to do that? Aren’t tips supposed to be for the staff who provide good service? Signed, Tipped Off ©iStockphoto/jean-marie guyon

Dear Tipped Off: Tips are not considered to be wages under Alberta’s Employment Standards Code.

Do you have a work-related question? Send your questions to Working Wise, at charles.strachey@gov.ab.ca. Charles Strachey is a manager with Alberta Human Services. This column is provided for general information.

How tips are handled in your workplace is a decision between you and your employer. That’s why it’s important to discuss all the terms of employment—including tips—before you accept a new job. If it’s really bothering you, try talking to your employer about it—they might be willing to change their policy. Employers have a vested interest in seeing that you are happy and satisfied at work because they trust you to handle their cash and keep their customers coming back. Links have been drawn between employee engagement and customer engagement by articles in Forbes and Entrepreneur magazines: - Happy Employees Equals Happy Customers (onforb.es/1PFNlsn) - Why Making Your Employees Happy Will Help Your Bottom Line (entm.ag/1qj2P8E) Although tips are not considered to be wages under the Employment Standards Code, they are still considered earnings and must be claimed as income on your income tax return—this includes your employer. For more information on tips and their tax implications, visit cra-arc.gc.ca. Your situation provides a valuable lesson to all employees: be sure you discuss and clearly understand all the terms and conditions of employment before you take a new job. If you are still not satisfied with your job after talking to your employer, you might want to consider looking for a new job. You can drop by your nearest Alberta Works Centre and get help looking for a new job or get information on upgrading your skills so that you can get a better-paying job. To find the centre nearest you, visit humanservices.alberta.ca/offices. For more tips and questions to ask when negotiating job offers, visit the Alberta Learning Information Service (ALIS) web site at alis.alberta.ca and search the tip sheets for Handling Job Offers. Good luck negotiating your next job offer. MY JOB FINDER ALBERTA JOB OPPORTUNITIES 7
