welcome to issue no. 2 Welcome to the autumn edition of One Lovely Day. With the success of the last issue, I could have not asked for a better outcome and it’s all because of your amazing support and encouragement. When I started my own business 4 years ago I never imagined that I will be running my own magazine one day, this is a proof that if you work hard you can achieve anything. (I love the quote, “if your dreams dont scare you, they are not big enough”!) I am absolutely amazed by the incredible talent we have in the wedding industry, particularly in event styling and photography. I feel so blessed to have so many talented contributors which I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart for all their love and attention to their beautiful work. One of the most exciting parts of my work is collaborating with other wedding industry creatives for styling the front cover shoot and once again I was blessed to be able to work with Dewi of Sweet Bloom Cakes and Katerina of KatCvet Photography and i cant wait to show you our latest work. Vesna said: Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year and this season all I have been thinking about is bold hues and geometric patterns (diamonds in particular). In the past 18 months we have seen an explosion of geometric patterns such as chevron, triangles and the trend is slowly moving towards diamonds. One of my favourite elements when styling a shoot is deciding on the colour palette. My main focus was to create something simple yet dramatic so I chose four bold hues – grey, mustard, royal blue and emerald green. The concept modern meets vintage was born when I decided to use the bold colours, diamond pattern and mix it with vintage props. The bold colours allow the geometric pattern and lines to shine through for a simple and decadent look and feel. One thing I love about styling is how versatile it can be and for the past 6 months I have enjoyed doing food styling. For this shoot my focus was on the presentation of the food, instead of passing hours creating a dessert table as such. Based on the outcome from my shoot you can see that modern and vintage can be also elegant and inviting. And the best bit about it, you can eat it all after the shoot! (laughs). One of the most exciting parts of my work is collaborating with other wedding industry creatves for styling the front cover shoot and once again I was blessed to be able to work with Dewi of Sweet Bloom Cakes and Katerina of KatCvet Photography. Whimsical Peach & Mint Wedding Helen said: The wedding of Sarah and Daniel took place on a perfect January Day at Butleigh Wootton in Kew, Melbourne. When Sarah first contacted me to create their wedding cake and desserts, they knew they wanted something whimsical, vintage, lace inspired and elegant. The colour palette given to me was the dream team of mint and peach together, as well as gold and Ivory. Sarah requested using a variety of our gold frames to hold dessert descriptions and I suggested using vintage books to help create some height and support the vintage style we were going for. Once Sarah and I discussed our idea’s, I called Sarah and Daniels stylist, the lovely Kerryn from Theme From Jak, to discuss our individual concepts so they will compliment each another on the day. Sarah and Daniels dessert table was placed in front of the grand, spiralling Butleigh Wootton’s stair case, which was also at the guest entry. To help create that whimsical feel, I hired Kerri from Vintage Sew and So to dream up a whimsical table cloth with a lace ruffle skirt, especially for Sarah and Daniel’s wedding day. I requested sheerness to help incorporate the custom painted mint table underneath. Delicate peach flower petals featuring vintage gold buttons and intricate, singular wired and hand painted gold leaves were placed strategically on the Ivory wedding cake. The cake flavours chosen by the bride and groom were Chocolate mud, White Chocolate mud and Raspberry mud. Fluffy Vanilla bean cupcakes with a hand painted edible brooches, cake pops and petite coconut cupcakes sat beautifully displayed on vintage crystal cake stands. Being classic vintage, I created a few ‘one of’ dessert pieces to be featured either under a glass cloche, within china teacup’s or decorated with authentic antique lace. Peaches and cream macaron’s were placed gently upon stacked china tea cup saucer’s in a cascading fashion. The wedding reception was just so beautiful and I was so pleased to hear from the gorgeous bride that her and Daniel’s day was just as beautiful. high tea Renee and Nina said: The theme for this event was essentially a vintage high tea with beautiful blooms and florals! The colour palette chosen of peach, seafoam green and mint tied in beautifully with a hint of metallic gold. It was held at the Village Green Hall in the picturesque suburb if Breakfast Point in Sydney on Sunday the 30th September 2012. Decorations consisted of hired props from Antique Events including the vintage dresser and side tables, old crates and a tea trolley and vintage suitcases and giant balloons with tissue paper tassel frills. The tables were adorned with beautiful crochet vintage doilies, individual plate settings and menus and beautiful matching Robert Gordon crockery. Old glass jars featured on the tables in white, gold and tiffany blue and they held beautiful blooms of peach and ivory coloured ranunculus, anemones, roses, peris mixed with daises and Australian natives. The Dessert and Candy Bar stationary matched the invitation, supplied by The Little Paper Pantry, featured a peony print that was used to create the imaging on the cookies and one of the mini cakes. The cakes and desserts were all hand made with touches of vintage whimsy in the beautiful soft peaches and fresh sea foam and mint green tones. Catering was also supplied by Confetti & Crumbs, guests were treated to mini hand made tarts and gourmet sandwiches, scones with jams and vanilla cream, a selection of fine Harney Tea’s, Innocent Bystander Moscato and imported Mexican sodas. Gillian said: Recently I had the absolute pleasure of being asked to style a new product range for a lovely creative, Samantha Dunne, Owner and Creative Director of Dunne with Style, Boutique Event DĂŠcor. I was really inspired by the gorgeous natural palette of greens, ecru and ivory of the fabric pom poms, and stunning paper wedding bouquet, to keep it intimate, relaxed, and romantic. The dining room, with its modern earthy feel, and fabulously rustic table, really set the tone for the shoot. Bringing the unique touch of handmade style to a wedding gives a truly personal touch and will leave guests with a lasting impression. Fabric pom poms, paper flowers, and lace bunting used as a table runner added an interesting textural element to the tablescape. A simple dessert table including cake,, a favourite dessert and some cheese was used to compliment the table. I loved how it portrayed a very personal and intimate, non-traditional wedding, that was not only beautiful, but where the guests would feel welcome and comfortable to enjoy the day. What I loved most about the shoot though, was that it shows, even with a modest budget, by using a handful of show stopping pieces, a stunning effect can be achieved. Debbi said: Amongst the many wonderful celebrations during the year, Mother’s day would have to be one of my favourites. It’s a time where we are able to reflect on one of the most important people in our lives, express how much they mean to us, and spoil them, even if for just one special day in the year. With the last days of summer upon us in Melbourne, Victoria, we decided on a beautiful beach location with gorgeous white sand and clear blue waters. The subdued colours of the beach boxes provided the perfect backdrop. The beach has always been my mum’s favourite places for relaxing and enjoying the sun. We wanted to incorporate our love for all things vintage, together with a contemporary feel using geometric patterns and a fresh colour palette. The colours of aqua, teal and coral worked perfectly together and the splash of gold created an opulent feel to the dessert table. Mother’s day would not be complete without beautiful flowers, and so it was fitting that our desserts and cakes showcased our love of peony’s and hydrangeas. The dessert table included fondant covered vanilla bean cupcakes adorned with edible open peony roses and hydrangeas, blush cakepops with a single hydrangea, together with coral coloured macarons with specs of gold leaf and three tiered glittered cookies in petite domed cupcake stands. The trio of cakes represented the ‘contemporary mum’ the perfect mixture of modern geometric patterns and bold colours paired back with the soft prettiness of peony’s, hydrangeas and blush pinks and gold. This bold yet beautiful blend symbolises what my mother means to me, a beautiful and inspirational woman. An aqua and gold cake featured a quatrefoil pattern which was juxtaposed against a single coral peony, adorning the three tiered cake. In contrast to the bright modern beauty stood a three tiered soft blond with shimmering gold lustre an understated single peony and white hydrangea and buds. In its subdued vintage inspired colours it maintains a contemporary feel with geometric prints in the stripes and circles. The trio was completed with crisp modern ruffles on an extended bottom tier cake and a top tier full of pretty peach and flamingo hydrangeas. Dunne with Style provided the most exquisite handcrafted décor for our table, including hand glittered vases filled with coral and aqua poms nestled between miniature daisy arrangements and peony pom toppers for the present box. An aqua, white and gold tassel garland by Blush loves Mint completed the look and was perfect against the white sandy beach. The contemporary mum lives in the modern world full of bright and bold prints and patterns, but at heart who doesn’t love the prettiness of a pink peony? This mothers day we have brought together the perfect blend of contemporary elements and bold colours and paired them back with the softness of our favourite florals and some classic inspired colours to represent the ultimate modern day mum.

Understated Ellegance Gillian said: I have always had a fascination with Jacaranda trees. Growing up in Brisbane, my school was positioned directly across the river from the beautiful New Farm Park. The breathtaking floral displays could be seen from our classrooms. I always daydreamed I would marry under those vibrant, almost luminescent mauve blooms. After a ten year period working in London, I did marry my sweetheart, under those very trees. My belief is when you draw inspiration and colour from nature, you can rarely go wrong. This stunning location, Princess Park, is tucked away along the Brisbane River, in a shady corner of Yeronga. Every time I passed this little oasis, I thought what a stunning location it would make for a wedding. At different times of the day the glistening of the river behind looks almost silver. The concept grew. Using the natural beauty and grandeur of the jacaranda trees as the backdrop, a luxurious mauve, silver and white wedding was created. The style was elegantly simple. Using clear Tiffany chairs and mirrored podiums allowed the colour of the Jacarandas to be the hero, and created beautiful and interesting reflections. Beautiful Beach Weddings created a stunning outdoor chapel using the river as the backdrop. The mauve blooms fell over the white carpet aisle creating such a pretty entrance. The dessert table was kept clean and fresh by presenting white bakes and confections accented with silver and mauve. The silverleaf used on the wedding cake tied in both the colours and elegance of the wedding. I simply adored how the mini apothecary jars held jacaranda coloured chocolate beans brought a lovely touch to the table. Tanya said: My inspiration for this shoot was simple, from the second i laid eyes on this amazing hotel i knew i had to do a concept shoot in it. I was inspired by the 1920's decor of the building and the quirkiness of all of the furnishings. Red and chocolate was my colour palette which tied in with the hotel perfectly. My brief to the other vendors involved with this shoot was think opulent, richness, brocade, red and more red, and with an art deco feel. I was totally thrilled with the dress that i had found from The Bare Bride, and Helen English design that fitted in perfectly with the opulence of the shoot. I knew i wanted a backless dress with stunning lace and that's exactly what this dress was stunning! The cake was sensational, it was just perfect and was designed by Blissfully Sweet, the lace of the dress is mirrored on the cake. Then the delicate red flower on the top of the cake just tied it all together. The invitations to this Elopement were by Pretty and Print, oh goodness the richness of these invitations, the colours and the art deco feel to the invitations were just divine. Plus there were little Luggage tags that i feel in love with as part of the invitations set. The flowers had to be lots of dark shades or red with a little bit of whispy in them, these were by Floriart and again i was thrilled with how they all matched the room, the cake and the invitations. Finally there was the beautiful makeup by Minx Makeup, i knew i wanted something very classy for this bride and that's exactly what we had. My vision was complete and then we had 3 hours of shooting in amongst this hotel. I was giddy with excitement, so many locations, and so many things to photograph amongst. I cannot wait to go back there again one day, but trust me it will blow your mind it's such a unique hotel that was the perfect setting for this amazing shoot. with me Michelle said: We had a travel inspired wedding and wanted to incorporate that same theme into our styled shoot. We promised to live a life of adventure together and have been all over the world. From Germany to South America and back again. We love to do missionary work and work closely with an orphanage in Haiti. This February, John travelled to Africa where he taught an orphanage how to build and maintain a hydroponic garden/pond where the two ecosystems can rely on each other for nutrients and produce fresh vegetables + fish. For this shoot, the hardest part was that hot air balloons in Temecula, California will only take off at sunrise. The shoot was on December 9th and it was freezing cold! We had Renewd Furniture set up a travel inspired scene with lots of maps, globes, vintage suitcases and old cameras to compliment the area next to the hot air balloon. My favorite part about our shoot was when we got to go up in the hot air balloon. It was so much fun but I remember getting sick to my stomach because every time the driver would pull on the fire, I kept going from freezing cold to hot!! Not a good combination! The rich landscape is filled with bright, luminous flowers that create the perfect ambiance for any bride who dreams of an outdoor, country-esque wedding. We utilized nature in its own form by accenting the flowers, trees and grass with the bride's wedding gown. We didn't need to accessorize the bride with jewelry and vibrant florals since Topsmead already had copious amounts of options. in the Leaves Bianca & Larissa said: We adore celebrations and especially love creating party decor for all occasions but we also enjoy celebrating the seasons and Autumn would have to be our favourite time of year. We love the kaleidescope of colour as the leaves change and the crunch of the leaves as they rustle beneath our feet. We embrace the cooler air and delight in wearing our boots and coats to keep us warm as we venture outdoors to explore the beauty of nature. When creating this rustic table setting we were inspired by the falling leaves and the fall fashion of Kate Spade. The falling leaves provided the perfect rustic backdrop for our picnic luncheon in the leaves. We wanted to create a relaxed atmosphere and decided on making a blackboard table with the help of our handy man Lawrence and then added some bench seating and wooden crates for our table centerpieces. We always love a bit of the unexpected and wanted to create a modern edge to this rustic table setting, so incorporated some pops of colour with bright fuchsia flowers and spotted emerald green napkins. We also wanted to continue with a relaxed menu so provisions of crusty baguette, pane di casa and an assortment of cheeses and antipasto were served for lunch along with pink sparkling wine. Dessert consisted of short crust apple and raspberry pies served in the tin and an exposed layer cake in a lemon and poppyseed flavour with Chambord butter cream. The cake was adorned with a beautiful arrangement of roses, gerbras, green chrysanthemums and gum leaves to match the flower centerpieces. We love how all of the contrasting colours and textures work together to create a relaxed yet sophisticated table scape and hopefully a picnic that Kate Spade would be proud of attending. 1920’s Metallic Soiree Rachael said: As my birthday fast approached, I decided that it was time to do something nice for myself. Choosing a theme was easy as I have always admired the decadence of the 1920’s especially the fashion. I wanted the event to be filled with glitz and glamour and chose a colour palette of black, white and gold. As this was an adult event, I decided upon a dessert table filled with delicious individual dessert options rather than filling it with candy. I am lucky enough to have access to many vintage glassware pieces that have been in my family for quite some. These items were used to delicately display each of the luscious homemade desserts including Tiramisu, White Chocolate Mouse, White Chocolate Panacotta with Coffee Syrup, Layered Mango Pavlova, Passionfruit Cheesecake and Vanilla Cannoli. The table also featured some delicious Salted Caramel, Lemon and Passionfruit Macarons. I applied some edible gold leaf to the Macarons for a vintage and glamorous touch; I then assembled them onto a cylinder tower which I embellished with a beautiful vintage brooch, gold ribbon and some gorgeous black Ostrich Feathers. Given my adoration for ruffle cakes, I could not go past having one for my birthday. The black buttercream was a little challenging to achieve however after adding the gorgeous vintage brooch and array of feathers, the end result suited the theme perfectly. Making the main cake would have to be my favourite part about the entire event. I knew what I wanted from the very beginning. The bottom tier was covered with layered ruffles inspired by 1920’s style gowns. The second tier was hand painted in gold and featured gorgeous ruffled flowers that contained different size brooches and crystals in the centres. The top tier was inspired by the fabulous art deco of the 1920’s as well as the beautiful headdresses the 1920’s is famous for. The inspiration for the backdrop came to me after watching a very short snippet of an advertisement of the ‘Gangster Squad’ movie. The back drop and addition of the elegant black hanging chandelier added the perfect final touches to the dessert table. The 1920’s were otherwise known as the Prohibition era. I wanted to incorporate alcohol into the event not just because it was my 30th Birthday but because it played a huge part in the 20’s. I hired an amazing bar tender to attend the event and mix cocktails for the guests. He was very entertaining hosting an array of fancy tricks. Breathing fire was by far the best fancy trick and was something that all of my guests enjoyed watching. The event also featured a gorgeous Champagne and Whiskey bar complete with a fine selection of cheese and olives. The whiskey was served in delicate crystal shot glasses and was housed in beautiful crystal whiskey decanters. The champagne selections included Veuve Clicquot and different varieties of Moet & Chandon. The gorgeous sparkling backdrop and beautiful flowers created the perfect finishing touches for the bar. The guest tables were elegantly styled with linen cloths, featuring black and gold table runners. Mini milk bottles embellished with black and gold ribbons were used as vases for the beautiful white Chrysanthemums., and tiny jars featuring a black ribbon rims were used as tealight candle holders. To complete the elegant look, the guest’s tables were set with dinnerware and each chair featured a beautiful black satin sash tied into a bow. Each element used on the night tied together perfectly to reflect the glitz and glamour of the 1920’s. A fun night was had by all who attended and being able to create something for myself was a really nice change.

So for this creative shoot as the location that I chose was very minimalistic with its white walls, maple floor and beams I decided to go with gray’s: light gray (dove) and dark gray (charcoal) and drew inspiration for the artist who was displaying her work that day grey purple (wisteria) With those colors the perfect shape was square with hints of rounds in the macaroons and candy We kept everything very clean and minimal on the table with simple flower arrangements and square vases, the square menu was placed on the square plates with white napkin draped under it. of Love
Nat said: I often get asked what inspires me to create a dessert table or come up with a chosen concept. More often than not I can say its one item you see on that actual dessert table that I've come across during my travels and can't wait to use. With this concept shoot - Ring The Bell's Of Love, the rustic bell which is hanging to the side of the dessert table was my main inspiration. I came across this bell during my travels to the Southern Highlands. As soon as I saw this bell ideas started swirling in my head. A very common occurrence for me as this happens with a multitude of items I come across. The bell is rustic and has a very natural and earthly feel. These elements were applied to the dessert table and the desserts which graced the table. To start of with the cake design was basic yet effective. Wooden letters spelling the word "LOVE" were applied to the burlap which lined the bottom of the cake. A lovely rustic statue of a couple holding the "Bell's Of Love" was placed as the cake topper. The other desserts included - Vanilla swirl cupcakes with "Ring The Bell's Of Love" toppers. These cupcakes were kept simple to maintain the rustic and natural feel. Heart cookies with gold fondant heart toppers were also kept natural to complement the natural desserts. Vanilla and white chocolate cakepops with gold sprinkles were placed on top of blocks which spelt the word love. Salted caramel macarons and vanilla macarons were embellished with gold fondant heart toppers. Vanilla mousse was served with a heart cookie which was embellished with twine to maintain the simple natural earthly feel. Natural wrapped chocolates which complemented the natural desserts and embellished jars with white chocolate truffles were used as favors for the guests. Bec & Ricky’s Wedding
Bec said: For us, choosing a wedding venue was the easy part, we decided on The Coolart Gardens and Homestead in Somers for our ceremony, the historical homestead was built in 1895 and is surrounded by stunning gardens and better still its almost on our door step. We decided on a vintage – rustic theme, Im a lover of craft and handmade, so I was in my element planning the wedding details, making wedding decorations, choosing table centrepieces, putting colours together, choosing flowers and so on. Our ceremony needed to include our 3 children and represent who we are, we also wanted to remember my Mum and Ricky’s Dad who were looking down on us, we were married in the beautiful garden in front of 80 of our closest friends and family, leading to the garden, along the driveway were handmade wooden directional signs that read, ‘almost there’ and ‘Rick and Becks Wedding’. I wore an ivory aline dress, bridesmaids wore a soft peach colour and my flower girls wore beautiful ivory dresses, our flowers were a mixture of roses, peonies, freesias in ivory and pinks. The groomsmen and ring bearer all wore grey trousers and vests over a cream shirt with a peach coloured handmade neck tie, they all wore dark grey Globe skate shoes to add a touch of quirk! We wanted something low key for our reception, this was hard to decide, we ended up going with a local hall, we decorated the hall with hanging tissue paper pom poms and paper lanterns, our tables were dressed with white table cloths, burlap runners, with pot of flowers similar to my bouquet and vintage bottles with baby’s breath, there were a couple of chalk board signs with messages, on wrought iron stands. We also had a table with some family photos for remembrance and good luck, with a sign that read, We know you would be here today, if heaven wasn’t so far away. If I did it again tomorrow, I probably wouldn't change a thing, it was exactly what we wanted, the day represented the people we are, we got to share it with our family and friends, and we had FUN! If I could give advice on 1 wedding related thing, it would be to choose your photographer wisely, wedding photography was so important to us, after all, when the wedding is over, all you have to remember it are the memories and the photos. Our fabulous photographers captured our day better than I could have ever imagined. I’m a big believer that it’s the little details that can take the ordinary to extraordinary and this simple 3D heart embellishment is the perfect way to add that special touch to favour boxes, cutlery, vases, guests books and so much more. On a very modest time and dollar budget these hearts will have your guests impressed before they even find out you made them yourself. So gather your bridesmaids and besties and get heart punching!
Materials: -
Cardstock or paper Heart shaped paper punch Glue or double sided tape
3D heart tutorial
Punch out 5 hearts from your cardstock with the paper punch. If you are going to cut the hearts with scissors, make sure your hearts are symmetrical (you can ensure this by folding your paper in half and cutting half a heart shape on the fold) Fold each heart in half down the centre. If you are using single sided coloured paper, make sure the colour is facing in as this will be the ‘right’ side of your heart Place a little glue or double sided tape on the outside of one of the hearts and attach it to the outside of another heart, matching up the edges of your heart. Continue to attach all of the hearts together with this method until all 5 hearts are stuck together leaving one side of the first and last heart loose so your heart has a flat back for attaching. Use some more double sided tape on the back of your heart (the two ends that you left loose) stick your 3D hearts onto their new home. DIY PAPER FLOWER TUTORIAL For this project, you will need: -coffee filters -tissue paper (cut in approximately 5×5 squares) -scissors -stapler Instructions: 1. Fold three coffee filters in half to make a crease down the center. 2. Create a ball of tissue paper out of one of the tissue sheets. 3. Take the same color and cover the ball. Twist the bottom to look like a lollipop. 4. Staple the “stick end” of the lollipop to the creased, center of the coffee filter. 5. After stapling the center, carefully lift each layer one by one. 6. Then flip the flower and staple the back of the flower together. Viola! A paper flower! To create the floral arch, simply use a hot glue gun to adhere the flowers to each other in your desired shape. Feel free to intersperse paper cupcake liners as well — straight out of their containers — for some added texture. You can also dye the paper flowers to break up the whiteness. Once your arch is fully shaped, use heavy duty fishing line to hang from the ceiling or from screws.
