welcome to our glamour issue!

Welcome to the winter issue of My Little Jedi magazine. I am thrilled to share the forth issue which is bursting with amazing party inspiration. Firstly, I would like to thank our fabulous contributors and devoted readers for your continuous support. Most of you would know that at the start of each season we provide each contributor with a different theme and they put their own unique spin on each event. I am constantly amazed by all the beautiful contributions that land in my inbox. The last issue had a rustic look and feel and this season we have chosen a completely different theme…It’s all about glitz and glamour so prepare yourself to be dazzled! We had an absolute ball at the last photo shoot which was held at The Garden on Forest venue, I feel very privileged to have had the chance of working again with Tanya of Tindale Images and Dewi of Sweet Bloom Cakes. Winter is the season to hibernate but that doesn’t mean you should stop creating and celebrating. It’s certainly the right season to rug up; drink your favourite vino whilst eating scrumptious roasted chestnuts. Well, this is what I have been doing lately, particularly late at night while everyone is asleep. I hope this winter issue will inspire you to celebrate your special events in style. Rug up, make yourself a cup of camomile tea and enjoy reading! xx

I have had a desire to style a golden metallic soiree for some time and I must admit i just love the rich and warm hues. During our recent workshop with Dewi of Sweet Bloom Cakes, we had two thoughts in mind, glamour and elegance. We were certainly set on the gold & bronze palette but wanted to add touches of white to the mix as gold can be little overpowering at times. This season we were inspired by many things and one of them is the gorgeous wedding gown collection by Veluz Reyes. We decided to incorporate jewels, ruffles and lace into the latest cake collection by Sweet Bloom Cakes. Dewi also incorporated some delicate ranunculus on one of the cakes which tied in perfectly with the gold painted ropes. One of the highlights of the shoot was using the mini cakes which were adorned with sugar veil lace and a selection of handmade gems. Choosing the venue was easy, as soon as I laid eyes on this luxurious venue called The Garden on Forest, I knew we had found the perfect spot. This amazing Heritage Estate is full of charm; it has some of the most beautiful chandeliers and whimsical dĂŠcor. Working with Tanya from Tindale Images on this luxurious soiree was the icing on the cake. She captured each moment in her own unique way and interpreted the vision I had beautifully. Mummy I love ice-cream” is what my almost 3 year old son Bailey informed us all of while sitting on our balcony eating ice-cream…This is when we all decided Bailey’s 3rd birthday should be an ice-cream social. My immediate thought was to create something a little different. Although I do like the traditional stripes usually featured within ice-cream parties, we wanted Bailey’s party to reflect our family’s style but also we needed to have rustic character as our little Bailey sure has a lot of that. With my main focus on showcasing a different kind of ice-cream party and with Bailey still being quite young, I wanted softer colours. I chose Jade, Orange, Lemon and Aqua while also showcasing the rustic characteristic’s that waffle brings and that certain pop of colour only sprinkles can give. A common thread I used throughout the party decorations, alongside the waffle cones was baker’s twine. I chose twine over ribbon as I felt it would give a well suited rustic touch, twine can also be less feminine but mostly because I am a baker too. We had Bailey’s party at our home in Eltham, Victoria. Being lucky enough to have a large back yard with beautiful mature trees, we nestled both the ice-cream stand and drinks station within nature. This way we could also hang paper lanterns from the branches but also tie in that rustic, natural feel we were going for. The drinks station featured 2 drink dispensers with my homemade lemonade and orange punch. Each year we have punch and it has always been a huge hit along with my homemade sausage rolls! The kids loved filling their little glass bottles up. I tied the ice-cream theme in by hanging cone tassels off the drink dispenser lids and wrapping the glass bottles with waffle print. Bailey’s birthday cake was a rich, moist and dense coconut cake with fluffy coconut flavoured ganache through multiple layers, coated and shaped in white chocolate. Bailey’s cake took on an almost retro feel featuring a string of solid coloured ice-cream cones. One of the more popular treats amongst the kids was the white chocolate ice-cream cone pops. With my mind racing about all the possible baked goodies I could make, there was one ‘must have’ sugary treat that I just simply couldn’t resist making and that was the ice-cream cone sugar cookies. It is always challenging for me to keep making and presenting my closest friends and family with different flavours and concepts but particularly for this party. It was challenging not to give in to the more traditional ice-cream party treats and when choosing all the baked goods, I kept my focus on the main concept and colour palette, as well as considering that I’m actually making it all! From the very beginning I wanted to hang waffle cones, I felt with 4 different colours on the dessert table I wanted the back drop to stay quite organic. When chatting to the ever so talented Li-Ann from Ham & Pea design & paperie about different options for a back drop, Li-Ann gave me the idea to use crackle paint. What an opportunity to release a little pop of colour through the cracks of ivory paint and have it not be too much.

My first port of call was securing the talents of both The Garage Studio, Photography by Fiona Handbury and Li-Ann from Ham & Pea design & Paperie, I just couldn’t pass the uber talent of both ladies. I love Li-Ann’s work because of her original style and I appreciate her impeccable sense of detail. Fiona is an amazing award winning photographer who really captures the moment with both passion and experience. I have worked with Fiona previously and simply adore all her photographs. I believe when hiring people with such imagination and creativity, you should just supply them with what details they need and just stand back. Both Li-Ann and Fiona encapsulated the exact feel of Bailey’s party that we were after and we couldn’t have been happier. My husband and I enjoy a good party and wanting to spoil our friends and family at our celebrations is no secret, so we just couldn’t resist an ice-cream stand. My aim was to supply plainer ice cream favours such as vanilla, chocolate and honeycomb, in cute little metal pale buckets on ice. Our guests then had the freedom to create their own flavours through my homemade toppings including marshmallow, berry couli and caramel sauce as well as crushed Oreo, nuts, m&m’s and sprinkles. When we opened the ice-cream stand after lunch, seeing all the kids run up for their icecream was such a delight and having an even mix of both child and parent toppings, it was fantastic to see the adults enjoying the ice-cream too. Individual serves of panna cotta in glass pots with wooden spoon’s featuring Bailey’s name, gave a personal feel as well as another dessert option. We sat them on the ice-cream stand for the kids to fill with the lollies from the dessert buffet when it was time to say goodbye. Although parties are often a lot of work, seeing our guests have such a great time was all worth it. Although a lot of preparation work went into Bailey’s party, not a lot of work was done on the actual day and that’s mostly because of the food choices I made. All food stayed fresh and delicious if made the days prior so on the day, it was just a case of popping it all out on display. We had such a lovely day celebrating and when the day finally wrapped and our heels were up our eldest son Jake informed us “mummy, I can’t wait for my star wars party”. & The aim... to create a cute backyard birthday for family and celebrate a special little one year old that is as “cute as a button”, well at least her mummy thinks so! When looking for an original theme for Tahlia’s 1st Birthday, inspiration was not too far away. Tahlias all time favorite toy “Pie” (friend of Sofie the Giraffe) looks a little like a mushroom and a little like an alien but never the less is as cute a button, just like the birthday girl. Thus the inspiration to Tahlia’s “Cute as a button Mushroom” Birthday Soiree! Tahlia is the youngest of three, so I always “like” (well hope) to keep an little eye on the dollars and cents. Boy, what you could do with a bottomless money pot, but trawling the charity and discount shops is always so much fun. The colour palette was pinks, latte and little sage with a focus on vintage, rustic and lace. For something a little different, the dessert table was made out of old crates that I picked up for free. Jars, bottles, fabrics, craft supplies and vintage plates picked up from the local dollar and charity shops and of course the obligatory trip to Ikea. Sweet treats included home made shortbread buttons, musks, individual wrapped candies, chocolate pops with mini musk button holes, mini candy mushrooms and some floating marshmellow mushrooms. The table was accessorised with some crafty creations including mushrooms made from corks and buttons, that have become the perfect momento and are now looking very sweet in her bedroom. Our little guests went home with their own mini button mushroom terrariums along with some personalised brown paper mushroom bags filled with their own selection of treats. Recently, I was asked to create a wedding shower for not one bride, but two! Sisters, Camille and Madeline, were getting married mere days apart. The brides thought a double shower would be brilliant. I had my reservations. Working with brides on a regular basis, I know brides. I was a bride. Brides revel in any (and all) of their pre-wedding limelight. It’s the one day in woman’s life when it’s truly “her day.” The whole idea of a double bridal shower bewildered and intrigued me. The challenge would be to create an event where both brides shined individually and each couple was celebrated independently. I would need to hire more staff. We got off to a bumpy start. My original theme choice of Bride Wars was unfortunately not embraced by the client. That being said, my second choice, Two in Love, a vintage bicycle-built-for-two inspired theme was. Hooray! I wanted the event to take place in The Netherlands, the bicycle capitol of the world. The client wanted her guests to be able to attend without the purchase of a plane ticket. Needless to say, the event took place in her home. The rest of the shower came together without a hitch. Wire artist, Heather Boyd, created the most charming wire tandem bicycle to serve as a cake topper. Using the topper as inspiration, I created an invitation collection complete with straw pennants, micro bunting banner, popcorn favor boxes, and buffet tags. Holly’s Sweet Hobby created breath taking bicycle-for-two themed cookies that tasted just as delicious as the looked! The Apothecakery Cupcake Shoppe also wowed me by creating a magnificent ruffled fondant cake. For further details, buffet signs for the table elements, striped paper straws and coordinating straw flags, and personalized bottle labels. Additionally, to keep guests entertained, I created two small activities at the shower. The first was a game card regarding how much the guests knew about each couple. This allowed guests to shower attention individually upon the brides and the couples, as well as getting to know them better. The second activity involved having all guests write small message of love and advice for each bride. The cards were sealed up with the instructions to keep them until the couple’s first anniversary. A Festival of Colour Indian inspired high tea

A recent birthday, mine in fact, gave me the perfect excuse to put together an Indian inspired high tea for some of my closest friends. With many of my recent styling jobs focused on more subdued colours (which I do love) it was just as wonderful to get lost in an explosion of rich and vibrant colours of the Indian tapestry. After countless hours researching the Indian celebration scene it became apparent that I was drawn to the intricate henna designs and also the rich colours of gold and teal and fuchsia, but also wanted to keep an modern edge by incorporating pops of tangerine and crisp white settings and place cards. A mock up mini backdrop I saw months ago by the ladies at Hey Look (http://blog.heylook.fi )was the inspiration behind the foil baking cup {bindii} backdrop. Whilst putting it together was timely it was incredibly easy. Gold serve ware (some of it found at the Brunei international airport of all places) and cake stands tied the backdrop and the tables together. The rich teal tablecloth and chair covers added a sense of luxury to the room. Pops of fuchsia napery and chair sashes, and votives highlighted the carnation and orange lentil centre pieces. (Gathering 16 bunches of fuchsia carnations on mother's day weekend was not the most inexpensive idea I have ever had!) For each guest a orange shortbread biscuit with gold henna design given at each setting and offered a brilliant contrast with the fuchsia napery. I really wanted to keep the dining ware simple and let the gorgeous desserts and flower centre pieces pop so lovingly my mother in law encouraged me to use her antique white tea set with gold trimmings. High tea sweets on offer were an assortment of petit fours and macarons, rich orange and vanilla mud cupcakes, Indian creamy phirini (a rice pudding dessert) and Mango lassi. Guests were also invited to drink Indian cardamom ginger chai tea. The dessert table offered more macarons, madeleines iced with pops of yellow teals, pinks and oranges, an assortment of candy including golden sixlets and bon petites, a dense vanilla mud and also a rich orange mud cake (in which only the top tier was edible). Both cakes were covered in fondant and delicately piped with the most exquisite henna designs. I really was so incredibly lucky to have two of my favourite dessert artists collaborate on the cake designs. Andrea of cake-a-lishious made the most mouth tantalising cakes and cupcakes and Noo from Dessert Menu, Please hand piped the most incredible henna designs (I have ever seen) on to the cake and also onto the shortbread cookies. Li-Ann from Ham&Pea Design and Paperie really did tie the day together with the most beautiful henna inspired invitation and paperie. I almost cried when I saw the gorgeous invite she created for me, she really did take the idea straight out of my head and put it perfectly into design. Working with these ladies was an absolute dream and I have again been so blown away by the talent they exude. I was also so lucky to have my twin sister and very close friend, Cassandra Stubbs on board to shoot the event set up before enjoying some delicious sweets with us. On leaving my birthday celebrations my close friends were offered a thank you favour box with a baby good luck elephant (trunk up for good luck of course) and a hand wrapped henna inspired chocolate bar. I had such a wonderful time I cannot wait to it all again next year. (Never too old to celebrate a birthday right?) Anthropology Inspired High Tea I wanted to create a traditional high tea but tweak it to give it an anthropolgy feel. The photoshoot took place at a privately owned property in Bowral in the Southern Highlands.The high tea had an earthly feel. The colour scheme was beige, white and burgundy. The burgundy brightened up the colour scheme but gave the high tea a wintery feel. Buttons and flowers were the main inspiration behind the high tea. The backdrop was the beautifully landscaped property. The ideal place for an anthropology high tea. The high tea table included all mismatched vintage high tea servingware which were sourced from all over the world. Risers were natural wooden boxes. All combined contributed to the natural and earthly feel. Burgundy and white flowers were added to create vibrancy with the other natural colours. The dining setting was relaxed rather than formal with hessian stools instead of chairs. All stools were various sizes and heights (mismatched) and made by Events by Nat. The table was a wooden shelf with a suitcase for the table top. All natural and earthly to complement the hessian stools. Scones - Rather than use traditional scones, I thought I would create something original so I came up with scone pops. I combined scones and jam and rolled them into a cake pop ball. I coated them in white chocolate and sprinkled eatable rose petals on top. The cake was three tiered with large and small burgundy blooms. Favors for the guests were the Hessian wrapped chocolates.In the background cream and white pom poms hung from the trees along with burgundy flowers. The whole setting was picturesque. Bridal Shower

This colourful dessert table by the lake would be ideal for a garden wedding or bridal shower. The mix of cake stands, glassware, mini tea cups and the retro dresser give this table an eclectic vintage feel, along with a bright feminine colour pallet of aqua, yellow and pink, not to mention the serene setting makes this table very pretty for any occasion. The large two tiered ruffle cake in aqua is the centre piece of the table, complimented by a small yellow rosette cake and a small pink ruffle cake and cupcakes in matching colours. Also displayed is an assortment of macarons, Rosewater Turkish delight and lemon meringue mousse in petite crystal wine glasses. A vintage milk jug and sweet aqua vintage glasses are filled with flowers to finish off the pretty table. At the foot of the dessert table is the menu listing all the delicious sweets on the table, designed by Di from Paper & Style co with pretty vintage rose graphics which matches the invites Di also designed for the shoot. A lovingly used vintage trolley held the drink dispenser filled with pink grapefruit mineral water and old recycled jars with pink fabric tags stamped with cheers tied on with twine and filled with pineapple & mango mineral water. Christmas in July For those of us located in the Southern Hemisphere, where true winter seasons exist, Christmas in July creates the perfect opportunity to create a Christmas style celebration. I am lucky enough to live in Burradoo, which is in the heart of the Southern Highlands of NSW. We embrace ‘winter’ here, and Christmas in July is a part of our social calendar. I can’t help but take note of the open fire crackling away as I apply the finishing touches to the desserts – a playful mood of excitement makes me smile! The sweet and spicy aroma of mulled wine from the kitchen stove can only be described as comforting. There is a festive feeling in the air, reminding me of a traditional Christmas once spent in London. A dessert table dedicated to hues of caramel and sophisticated treats for ‘grown-ups’ sits silently, adorned with textures from burlap and ruffles. I think we are ready to welcome our guests, as the indulgence of Christmas in July awaits us. 1. Tell us a little about you, the woman behind â&#x20AC;&#x153;Sweet Bloom Cakesâ&#x20AC;?? I am a mum to a 4 year old boy named Clayton. Cooking and baking has always been my passion and what started as a hobby has grown into a small business called Sweet Bloom Cakes. 2. What has been the most exciting moment in your career? When I had my own branding Sweet Bloom Cakes and registered the business. It was a dream come true to get paid for doing something that I love. Also, having my ruffle cake on the front cover of Bride to Be magazine has been very rewarding. 3. What inspires your design style? I am very passionate about the art of baking, cake design, photography, cake pedestals, and just about anything vintage. The love of fashion and interior design has inspired me to try new things and I have translated some of these trends into my latest cake collection. 4. If you could make a cake for a celebrity, who would you choose and why? Princess Kate Middleton. She seems very down to earth, feminine and elegant. 5. What is your day-to-day like? Where do I start. I wake up very early each morning, once I drop my son off to day care I am constantly on the phone with clients, replying to emails, client meetings and baking. After my son goes to bed and my baking is done I spend few hours reading blogs and pinning on pinterest. 6. Where do you see Sweet Bloom Cakes in 2 years from now? I have always wanted to have my own cake boutique store and have been so blessed and fortunate to see the business constantly growing. I am also enjoying working closely with My Little Jedi and we never know what the future holds, we may have our own studio soon. 7. What is your favourite place in the world? cowboy's & indian's When Jack's mummy wanted a cowboy theme for his party she thought Petit Atelier was an ideal space as they are running themed parties which include the cowboy and indian's themed party, which also involves great activities for kids at their gorgeous party space, Little Big company, Petit Atelier, Just Call Martha and Ham and Pea Design and Paperie got together to style a Cowboys and Indian's party for Jack's 5th Birthday with a rustic blue gingham, burlap and a touch of red theme. Leoni from Just Call Me Martha made a double chocolate mud cake with the inspiration coming from the Ham and Pea Paperie and Design's invitation the birthday boy loved the arrows sticking out of the cake and the cowprint, gingerbread cookies were made to match the rustic theme- other food included were double salted caramel cupcakes, rustic oreo pops and savoury food for the kids. Ham and Pea designed the fabric backdrop and printables. The gorgeous favour bags were from Sambellina and we placed a thank you tags designed by Ham and Pea on top. We got the fabulous head dress from Seed kids. All plates and cups were from Petit Atelier who has gorgeous products in store. Some of the activities that were included for the kids as part of the party thee were make a feather headress and paint a timber hobbyhorse. The Paper Craft Room provided all the paper hanging poms for the day and the beautiful cutlery was from Paper Eskimo which is in store at Petit Atelier. The Little Big Company supplied the horse shoes, jars, old fashioned labels, crates, caramel swizzle sticks and lollipops for the party which are all available at Petit Atelier for the Cowboy Parties. Our photo shoot is a little different to most we have seen, taking that 'neon' will be a big trend in 2012 we decided to try something a little more daring. We have found quite a few brides are coming out of the usual and expected style of weddings such as vintage or rustic inspired and are more inclined to try something new. Sweet Ballerina My gorgeous Grace turned five this week and loving ballet as much as she does, it was no surprise she requested a ballet themed birthday. Complete with twirling ribbons, pink ruffles and dancing cupcakes, the celebration was every little ballerina's dream. A festival of all things pink and pretty, as long as there was lots of sparkle, Grace was always going to love it. We knew the party had begun when a wave of tule skirts and ballet slippers engulfed the house. Little ballerinas danced and played with Emma the ballerina who had them enthralled with all manner of ballet antics including pass the parcel, musical statues and musical chairs. After a little exercise, our petite party sat down for some afternoon tea.The extremely talented Anita from Cake Envy provided the centerpiece of the table - an ombre ruffled cake with oversized sugar flower and bejeweled centre – and ballerinas nibbled on beautiful ballet biscuits, strawberry mousse, tutu chocolates, ballerina push pops and candy. Vintage-inspired Lovely Lace pastel pink paper plates and cups tied in perfectly with our ballet theme along with the Beautiful Ballerina printables and customized back-drop bunting designed and created by inviteme. For a little extra sparkle we adorned our printable hats, sign and chocolates with ribbon, tulle and flowers from our local craft store. Nothing like a bit of cut and pasting to add that extra shine to your printables range! Our ballerinas danced and twirled the afternoon away and after our guests had left, my Grace turned to me and said. “Mummy, this is the best birthday I’ve ever had.” You can’t beat praise like that. Calling all Superheroes

"Help Save the Milk Bar"! The party was held for my kids (2 year old Raya and 4 year old Isaac) They’re born 5 days apart and I thought a joint party would be a good idea as they have the same friends! I really wanted a theme that would appeal to both boys and girls. My son loves superheros and my 2 year old was so quick to jump in on the action! We incorporated the Milk Bar theme (it was a double theme party) as a way of adding a “girlie” touch through bright colours and pretty props. We had two cakes so they both got their own “moment” in the limelight! We also had two kids tables set up – a superhero one for lunch and a Milk Bar one for dessert. Everything started with the invitations where the main characters (Super Isaac & Super Raya) were created by our designer and the rest flowed from there. We had the personalised capes and superhero capes for all the guests (Bee Stitched) plus the girls also got a handmade hair elastic lollipop favour (Charli Mae) The kids had an absolute blast and the custom made vintage style phone booth was a real hit and was the perfect backdrop for cute action shots of the kids! Of course we had a lot of toys there including the famous ball pit and that was perfect for keeping the kids happy before and after the real life superheroes made an appearance (Superheroes Inc) This was a generic superhero party so no spiderman or batman here!! So we had to make sure the entertainers knew that! We also incorporate the Milk Bar theme by getting them to play games based around “saving the Milk bar” as per the invitation. We had a Corn & Candy Station set up as well as a Lemonade Stand on our French Cart. Outside there was a little Garden Setting rest area including our Mushroom table and stools and pink outdoor setting. This proved very popular with the little ones who preferred to watch the superheroes from a distance!
