Mena’s Strother, Lua Named to All-Star Game The Mena Bearcats will have two participants in the East-West High School All-Star Football Game this year. The Arkansas Activities Association announced Wednesday that 6’4” 245 pound Brock Strother and 5’10” 155 pound Christian Lua will play for the West squad in the upcoming contest. Strother played both ways for the 8-4 Bearcats squad. On offense, Strother had 17 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Strother was credited with 36 tackles and one quarterback sack.
Lua was a kicking specialist for the Bearcats. He connected on 23 out of 24 extra point attempts, and drilled his only field goal attempt from 35 yards out, accounting for 26 points for Mena during the 2018 season. Lua also punted three times with a 37.7 yard average. The 2019 Arkansas High School Football All-Star Game will be played on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway in June.

Mena Senior Teams Peaking for Post-Season The Mena Bearcats and LadyCats enjoyed an open date on Friday, January 25th. On Tuesday, January 22nd, the Mena senior teams claimed a couple of victories on the road at Malvern. The Ladycats fell behind 24-16 in the first half before ripping off 11 unanswered points to take a 27-24 lead, and never looked back to post the 44-38 victory. The
LadyCats are 6-2 in 4A Region 7 play and 11-8 overall. The Bearcats exploded for a 33-6 run themselves to pull away from Malvern for an impressive 86-60 win over the Leopards. Coach Thomas Powell’s Bearcats are now 7-1 in conference play, and 16-5 overall. The Bearcats and LadyCats are peaking
at the right time with post-season action coming up in February. The Mena teams will host the 4A-Region 7 Tournament February 11th through the 16th at the Union Bank Center. The top four teams in the girls
and boys brackets advance to the regional tournament the following week. The regional tournament will also be hosted by Mena at the Union Bank Center.
