Keep Rockin, Keep Flyin...

Sadly this is the last Fly to be produced under Myriad Pro Publishing.

I am handing the reins back to Banchory and District Iniaves after just over four years of producing the magazine.

In that time I have taken it from an online-only title to a printed quarterly entity with a number of loyal advertisers from across the area.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the magazine in any way, however small.

And I hope you will continue to support the magazine as it returns to the stable in which it was born.

Banchory and District Initiatives is a community organisation dedicated to celebrating and improving Banchory for residents and visitors alike.

Deadlines and advertising costs will remain the same for the time being, but there is a new email address to contact: thebanchoryfly@gmail.com

The new Fly editor is Zita Szekeres – some of you may know her from her photography business TheImages.com, and if you look really closely, you may be able to spot her on this issue's cover...

I am sure she and her BDI colleagues will make the best job of it.

So if you have any news or advertising queries for the SPRING 23 edition, due out early March, let Zita have it by Wednesday the 1st of February.

It'll soon come round...

Crathes Castle's ParkRun has had to suspend its activities for the time being after November's deluges made many of their routes inaccessible and delayed forestry operations, forcing them to operate at a weekend. Hoping to return in the new year, the group said: "We know how much our weekly event means for so many people and we already miss seeing everyone on Saturday mornings. There are other parkruns in the area, and if you haven’t tried one, now would be a great time."

Banchory Community Council is reviewing the status of the key findings of the 2017 Community Action Plan.

They are looking at the success stories since 2017 and how they were achieved, but will also be identifying barriers to progress on issues which have not been addressed.

In this survey we want to know if the community's priorities have changed over the last five years and what broad themes are important going into the future.

The online survey, which can be found at hps://forms.gle/ oPi9Ky7dAdtPVgtx9 is part of a wider consultation which will include offline surveys, direct contact with organisations and an in-person event.

During 2017-2019 while they raised funds to create their venue on Legion Scotland premises, Banchory Men's Shed supporters frequently referred to their shared ambition to hold silversmithing classes.

Lockdown put those plans on hold for a while, but at last the group is delighted that they can forge ahead, thanks to Banchory Co-op and its customers for their recent award of a generous grant for purchasing silversmithing tools!

The start date of classes is yet to be confirmed at the time of going to print, but they group says they will held weekly on Thursdays from 10am at the Men’s Shed.

Exercising can be a great way to help improve your mental health, but going along to the gym, jumping in the pool, or taking part in an exercise class can be quite daunting for some people. Planning your gym workout beforehand, going for a swim with a friend, or speaking to the instructor before an exercise class are all ways that may help make it easier for anyone feeling anxious. We encourage everyone in our facilities to be friendly and welcoming to everyone around you.

Are you, or someone you know, living with a long-term health condition, are currently inactive and looking to start on your journey towards a more active lifestyle?

Our specialist Health and Wellbeing instructor is starting a new class at the Banchory Sports Village on a Thursday at 11am. Lyndsay will call you before the class to introduce herself, discuss your health condition and assess your suitability for the class. She will be on hand to support you throughout the 12-weeks and beyond as you make changes to your lifestyle. We commit to the class being fun, sociable and tailored to your needs and we are offering it to you FREE for 12 weeks.
