Huzzah - It is 2022! Happy new year. May 2022 be full of many blessings for you all.
My husband and I have decided that this year we will fi nd more acti viti es that we can do together. In general, my husband favors the outdoors, with mountain biking being his preferred acti vity of choice.
I, on the other hand, am a creature of comfort. At the end of the day, I enjoy nothing more than changing into one of my many oversized jumpers, dimming the lights and curling up on the sofa.
So, herein lies the questi on: how do we fi nd a middle ground between the high hills and the Hobbit-like trappings of home?
Well, as luck would have it, we have already managed to partake in one shared acti vity this year. Our children very sweetly gave us both vouchers for Line of Sight this Christmas, so on a welcome day off we donned our puffi est jackets and headed to Tarland.
Line of Sight is a purpose built 25m outdoor shooti ng range in the heart of Deeside. Needless to say, this was quite the change to our usual Friday morning routi ne and, I won’t lie, I was quite nervous about shooti ng.
Thankfully Line of Sight’s Paul Basford swift ly quelled any misgivings I had, and soon I was fully immersed in the experience. I even managed to get a bullseye, much to my smug sati sfacti on.
Despite my enjoyment, however, my husband ulti mately got the higher overall score (by, I kid you not, one point). This means only one thing – We will have to go back and have a rematch!
With this in mind, perhaps shooti ng will become our ongoing middle ground. Aft er all, it does meet halfway between our two habitual se� ngs. I can wrap up warm and take some calming breaths in a more stati onery manner, while my husband can enjoy the fresh, Deeside air around him while sti ll feeling a rush of adrenaline in a controlled manner.
It’s a win / win situati on (although next ti me, that litt le Line of Sight medal will be mine!).
