Age is no barrier, we range from primary school age to well beyond reti rement years! Come and see if you’d like to be a Bouler 12 o’Birse too.

Mid Deeside Community First Responders (MDCFR) are looking for new members. Back in March 2020, all CFRs were stood down because of Covid-19.

When the Sco sh Ambulance Service (SAS) asked us to consider returning to duty in August 2020, our group was diminished by almost two-thirds and, two years on, the group numbers remain very low. Alongside this, the Ambulance Service is as stretched as ever, and needs our help.

Community First Responders (CFRs) book on for duty when they are available and are called by Ambulance Control to att end some local emergencies if an ambulance cannot get to the pati ent as quickly as your local CFR can. We cover from Banchory to Ballater along Deeside, including Tarland, Logie Coldstone, Lumphanan and Torphins, and everywhere in between.

Initi al training is a four-day course oft en held over two weekends which is run by the Sco sh Ambulance Service. It includes instructi on in dealing with cardiac arrest (we carry a defi brillator), administrati on of oxygen, and how to assess a pati ent and keep them stable according to their needs unti l the ambulance arrives.

No previous medical experience is necessary – you should be fi t, over 18, able to drive, have access to a vehicle when on call and have an understanding of the professionalism required in dealing with the public at such medically sensiti ve ti mes. Appropriate PPE is supplied by SAS according to Covid-19 regulati ons.

Aft er this training, you will join our group monthly training nights to help keep our skills up to date.

Being a CFR is both challenging and rewarding, so if you would like to know more about this valuable community service, please email tmdcfr@gmail.com, or call Linda on 07876 102026 to fi nd out more, and/or come along to one of our training sessions.
