GARDEN CITY BEACH

Located directly south of Surfside Beach, Garden City Beach is a small beach community revered for its lighthearted, family-friendly atmosphere and nostalgic beach town charm. The inlet meets the ocean here, making the water much calmer, so the area is a hot spot for watersports, fishing and crabbing. The heart of Garden City Beach is The Pier, a paradise for those looking to fish during the day and dance to live music at night.

Surfside Beach

Incorporated in 1964, Surfside Beach has long been known throughout the Grand Strand as a “family beach.” Surfside’s pristine beaches are cleaned daily and supervised by lifeguards and police, giving families peace of mind while their children play on the beach. There are several beach access points that offer showers, restrooms and accessible ramps for persons with disabilities. In 2016, the Surfside Beach town council signed a proclamation to make Surfside Beach the first autism-friendly travel destination, further establishing their reputation as a beach for all families.

LOCAL’S TIP Something for Everyone

Be sure to visit the area around Surfside Beach Pier, which has dining options ranging from pizza and burgers to seafood and steaks, as well as several hangouts and shopping spots. Though the pier is currently being rebuilt, there’s plenty to do nearby.

Murrells Inlet

A town known as the “seafood capital of South Carolina,” you know a delicious meal of fresh-caught seafood awaits after a fun-filled day. The popular MarshWalk comes alive after dark, with live music streaming from several waterfront establishments that offer spectacular marsh views and some of the best seafood in the area. Beautiful waterfront dining and live entertainment aren’t the only things Murrells Inlet has to offer. Those interested in art and history will be thrilled to discover Brookgreen Gardens, a national historic landmark showcasing the world’s largest collection of outdoor American sculpture.

LOCAL’S TIP Explore the Natural Beauty

Across the road from Brookgreen is Huntington Beach State Park where you can discover birds, alligators and other wildlife. You can also take a hike, go on a Segway tour, enjoy the beach or explore Atalaya Castle, a Moorish-inspired summer home of the Huntington family in the early 20th century.
