ature Cure is a constructive method of treatment which aims at removing the basic cause of disease through rational use of elements which are natural. It is not only a system of healing, but also a way of life. It was practiced in ancient India, Egypt, Greece and Rome. Studies have shown that India was much further advanced in olden days in natural healing system than other countries of the world. The whole philosophy and practice of nature cure is built on three principles. The first and the most basic principle of nature cure is that all forms of disease are due to the same cause, i.e. the accumulation of waste materials in the system. In a healthy body these waste materials are removed from the system through the organs of elimination. But in a diseased body they are steadily piling up in the body through years of faulty habits
of living such as wrong food habit, improper care of body and nervous exhaustion like, worry, anxiety, overwork etc. It follows from this basic principle that the only way to cure disease with a natural system is to employ methods which will enable the system to throw off these toxic accumulations. The second basic principle of nature cure is that all acute diseases such as fevers, cold, inflammations,
digestive disturbances are nothing more than self-initiated efforts on the part of the body to throw off the accumulated waste materials. All chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, rheumatism, asthma, kidney disorders are the results of continued suppression of the acute diseases through harmful methods such as drugs, vaccines, narcotics and gland extracts. The third principle of nature cure is that the body contains an elaborate healing mechanism which has the power to bring about a return to normal condition of health, provided right methods are used to enable it to do so. In other words, the power to cure disease lies within the body itself. The nature cure system aims at the 30 Feb 2015 . Mystic Yoga Magazine
readjustment of the human system from abnormal to normal conditions and functions, and adopts methods of cure which are in conformity with the constructive principles of nature. Such methods remove from the system the accumulation of toxins without injuring the vital organs of the body. They also stimulate the organs of elimination and purification to better healing. To cure the disease, the first and foremost requirement is to regulate the diet. To get rid of accumulated toxins and restore the equilibrium of the system, it is desirable to completely exclude acid-forming foods, starches and fats for a week and confine the diet to fresh and alkaline foods which will disinfect and wash the stomach. A proper well-balanced diet, sufficient physical exercise, specially yoga asanas, cleanliness, adequate rest and right mental attitude can
ensure proper health and prevent disease. While going through the process of nature cure the food should be served in its natural form with minimal cooking. The objective is to provide proper, balanced nourishment through food. Fresh seasonal fruits, green leafy vegetables and sprouts are excellent for this purpose. The diet can be broadly classified into three categories
1
Eliminative diet The eliminative diet focuses on removing morbid matter and flushing out impurities from the body. It emphasizes on liquids – citric juices, tender coconut water, fresh fruit juices, vegetable soups, buttermilk etc.
2
Soothing diet The soothing diet harmonizes the balance in the body by feeding easy to digest, natural food. It includes fruits, salads, boiled and steamed vegetables, sprouts, cereals, etc.
3
Constructive diet The constructive diet helps the body recover and grow by feeding it with wholesome flour, unpolished rice, pulses, sprouts, curd, ghee and minimum oiled food.
Love, Life & Sky!!! Debarsi Chakraborty
12.30 p.m. September 15, 2014 There were some media people waiting at the spot to take the photographs of Doug. Doug's past accident got quite a media coverage where they hyped the possible risks of skydiving. When they got the information from Doug's friend about his decision to jump again, they immediately rushed to the drop zone to cover it live. "This man needs a big salute", they were discussing among themselves. Once Doug came in the field of view of their cameras, they started clicking his photographs. Doug was busy doing some manoeuvres with his canopy in the holding area. At 1000 ft. he started his downwind turn and flew like that up to 500 ft. Then he made his base turn up to 300 ft. and started to make the final approach for his landing. This is a common pattern skydivers follow for landing and for Doug it was really important to land against the direction of wind to slow down his landing speed. He touched the ground within 10 ft. of the landing spot and did a smooth flare which helped him to avoid running with his legs. He waved at the people waiting nearby. He was really happy and probably felt that his story would inspire many skydivers in present and in future. The van picked him up with his canopy and took him to the main building at the drop zone. Doug exchanged hugs with his friends and sat down in a chair to give his interview with a glass of beer in his hand. 32 Feb 2015 . Mystic Yoga Magazine
B
orn in a small town in US, Doug didn't get much motivation for his passions from his family and relatives. His father was a school teacher while his mom was a housewife. From his childhood he was an experience junkie. He used to be enthralled while watching the videos of the stuntmen and adventurers on Television. When he wanted to join the army, his parents didn't approve of his desires. They explained to him about the tough lives of the army men. Reality is not the same as the movies. In movies the soldiers can stop many grenades or take many bullets for their countries in two and half hours while in reality they have to spend days after days in camps in cold weather or scorching heat. "Some moments of adrenaline cannot compensate for so many days of boredom", they said. Doug was confused what to do. Finally he surrendered to the wishes of his parents and joined a public school. But his innermost desires of the adventures were still alive in his heart.
W
hen he was in college, he came to know about a static line parachuting course on internet. In this type of jump the parachute is attached to a static line tied with the airplane
and opens automatically after someone jumps. He wanted to go for the course but he knew that his parents wouldn't approve or give him the money. So he started taking private tuition classes. Within eight months he managed to save up enough for the course. He told his parents that he would be going for a vacation with his friends. It was a three day course. First day he attended the ground school. He was taught the various techniques to control the canopy and the emergency procedures to pull the reserve parachute in case the main parachute didn't open. Next day morning he geared up for the jumps. "Are you ready Doug?” his instructor asked. "Yes Sir, I am", he promptly replied and walked confidently to board the airplane.
O
nce the airplane started flying upwards, his heartbeat started getting faster. He wondered whether he could really do this or not. He had thought so much about this moment from last eight months, now stepping back after getting the chance made no sense to him. "But what if the parachute doesn't open? What if I can't open the reserve? What if I can't find the drop zone to land on?” lot of thoughts like these were troubling him. Once the
airplane reached to 4000 ft., the door opened in front of him and the person in front of him was instructed to jump. After that it was Doug's turn. When he looked downward from the door, he could see the drop zone, the green fields and some structures around it. There was not much time to wait. He trusted the unknown and made the leap of faith. Within five seconds of jumping he looked up and saw the parachute opening over his head. He checked his altimeter and it was 3500 ft. He controlled his canopy decently while flying and followed the landing pattern. While landing he went for a para-landing fall as taught by the instructors.
H
e came back home having a renewed mind with the experience of the jumps. He got a new motivation to live. After finishing college, he joined a private firm as an investment banker. In office he used to join his colleagues for lunch but he was never able to relate with them in a 34 Feb 2015 . Mystic Yoga Magazine
deeper way. When they used to discuss about investments, share markets, real estates, his mind wanted to soar. The company offered him a good pay and he started spending most of his salary in his skydiving trips. Within few months he became a licensed free fall skydiver. The experience of the free fall jumps were very different from the static line ones. He used to jump from any height between 9000-15000 ft. in free fall and enjoy 30 sec-1 min of free fall time in the sky. His body position while arching was pretty good. Whenever a skydiver gets unstable in the sky while doing some manoeuvres, they can arch to get back the stability back. While arching, more body weight comes at the belly and the body gets stable due to the basic aerodynamic principle. He learned to flip, back fly, track. The whole sky was his playground. While falling down he used to lose the sensation of his weight, only the sharp flow of air on his face and body was there to make him remind that he was alive and living
his life at that moment. Doug also became quite popular among his peers due to his playful nature.
I
t had been almost four and a half years since he had made his first static line jump. That day he was going to make his 430th jump with his wing suit. Wing suit is a suit specially designed for getting more lift from air to increase the flight time. There were lot of complexities in flying a wing suit and Doug was not an expert wing suit flyer. That day he jumped from Cessna 208 Caravan at 12000 ft. in a place not above the drop zone. He was supposed to fly towards the drop zone with the help of his suit. After jumping he started tracking through the clouds. He stopped the tracking at 6000 ft. and tried to make some back loops and barrel rolls. But one bad roll resulted in a flat spin of the Wing suit and he fell in a fast rotation. He couldn't recover from it and lost altitude awareness. He didn't pull his main parachute at the correct altitude and his cypress fired at about 2000 ft. Cypress is a device which fires when the rate of fall exceeds a certain value at a certain height which results in opening of the reserve parachute. The reserve opened with multiple line twists due to his incorrect body position at the time of opening.
While he was trying to clear the twists, he found that he was close to the ground. There was no sign of the drop zone below him but there were lot of coconut trees. He was not in proper control of his canopy and he collided with a tree in spite of his best effort to avoid it. The collision resulted in collapsing of his parachute and his falling from 80 ft. to the ground. The search team found him barely alive at that spot and rescued him. He opened his eyes in the hospital after two days. One of his leg was amputated to save his life. He felt terrible pain in his body after waking up. His mom couldn't stop herself from bursting into tears in front of him while his father tried to console her. Doug had to stay in hospital for three months and he was released with a prosthetic limb. After few months he joined his work again but he was getting bored heavily. He was missing the adrenaline of the older days. After suffering mentally for few months, he made a decision to go back to sky. He visited the drop zone on weekend. His friends were happy to see him but surprised to know about his decision. As he was out of touch for many months, he had to make consolidation jumps with the instructor. He boarded the plane again with his instructor and some
fun-jumpers. When the plane was going up, his mind got filled with the bad memories of his last jump. Somewhere, there was fear in his mind to jump again, but he knew that this fear is not worse than his sufferings of the previous months. Once the door opened, Doug jumped with his instructor. He made a perfect arch at the exit. He made some nice turns while free falling and pulled his main parachute at 4500 ft. After few seconds, he was flying happily with his canopy above his head. "Oh God! I Love my Life", he exclaimed with joy in the sky.
