Welcome to Issue 38
O
ctober is here in the northern hemisphere & we approach Samhain, more commonly known as Halloween nowadays….The shortest day & the longest night, a great time of celebration. There are articles about Samhain in the magazine, the folk lore behind it, how to prepare your altar….and a ritual. Of course it is Beltain in the southern hemisphere & we have included an article concerning it. Here we have had one of the best summers for many years, many months of glorious sunshine which has made for an uplifting & energised time, raising the people’s spirits. The gardens and fields of England blooming making the saying “This green and pleasant land“ very true indeed. As I have stated in previous issues it is really wonderful amid these dark times of the planets history that so many people are waking up to the fact that there is far more to this earthly life & starting to seek a new understanding. This I notice from the surge of new members joining the Mystik Way & various other types of spiritual groups, so the light is at last spreading wider & further due to the global social media. I see the mobile phone & the internet as the modern Magicians wand & a way of spreading knowledge and wisdom to all across the globe instantly. Enjoy the Magazine as there are some wonderful articles, have a great time with your Samhain…Halloween celebrations. Enjoyment & fun is what life should really be about so make it so.
Blessings to all -- MystikMaster 3
World Peace Day in Glastonbury
Sunday September 21st 2014 The peace & tranquillity of the many alike minded souls gathered together could be felt at a very deep level across the hallowed land of Avalon, it seeped into the very stones of every building, every tree, a kind of hush fell across the very soul of the area. The call of Avalon was heard & answered which will have created a ripple effect across the planet, a call to those who know to come forward and spread the light to illuminate the darkness for all those that dwell in fear, ignorance, hatred & misunderstanding. Now all we need are more & larger events along these lines.

Samhain Ritual We are between the Worlds, Beyond the Realms of Time. When Night and Day, Birth and Death, Joy and Sorrow meet as One. After the End and before the Beginning, comes a time when the Veil is Thin. Listen to the Ancestors calling, Open the Door and let them in.

Samhain. All Hallows Halloween as it is now known across the World is an Ancient Celtic Festival….it marked the end of the year, when the Darkness took over from the Light. The name Samhain means “summers end” and the onset of the dark winter months, all the crops & vegetables were harvested to be stored along with the vital Herbs, fruit, nuts & berries so as to keep the villagers from starvation/illness. The Herds were returned to the village & sheltered against the harsh winter. Most importantly, Meade & Ale were brewed in great abundance (beer was also known as bread) Now the Veil between the two Worlds was at its thinnest, ceremonies & rituals were conducted by humans to make contact with those who had departed to the Other World. To the Ancients it was New Year & celebrated with Great Festivities, offerings were made to the Gods….rituals & purification rites took place to invoke their help for the year to come….Great feasts & merry making throughout the eve of Samhain echoed across the countryside. During the eve of all hallows all departed spirits (good & evil) would once again walk the earth for an evening. Celebrate by holding a party with loved ones and friends, create a lavish feast with good food and drink…decorate your house & altar with seasonal plants, fruits, berries….invite the departed to come warm themselves by your fire…..share your abundance with the knowledge there will be more next year.

Southern Hemisphere Celebrations Beltane the Festival of Fire A time of fertility in all aspects, a time to burn the old fears & hurts, a time to rid ourselves of that which is no longer required and seek the new & adventurous. If you are not attending a public festival, hold a party at home with friends and have a small fire in the garden….have a feast of fine wine & food…..perform a ritual celebration….write you fears/ worries on paper then burn then in the fire….then write you hopes/plans down & place in the house, somewhere you can see them every day to be reminded. But beware because as I say it is a time of great Fertility in all aspects.

s you wandered along the road today or walked through the park, did you remember to bless the trees & the birds because they blessed you as you passed by….As you dwelt upon yours & the worlds woes, head buried deep within a world of fearful illusion seeing not the real beauty & colourful power that surrounded you. When I meet with my friends the trees and the birds the first thing they always ask of my is “why do the humans not hear us and what we are saying anymore “we speak, we call, we send them energy but they do not see hear or feel it. Many years past it was not just yourself & and a few others that did…”what has happened” they continually ask. Next time you are near a tree stop and say hi, touch it bless it, sit for a few minutes with your back against its strong trunk, then listen….still your mind then the birds will begin to talk….your perception of the world you live in will the change from the dark satanic mills of slavery to one of peace, abundance and beauty. The art of silently or aloud saying the word “ BLESSINGS “ to everyone & everything you meet every day has a very powerful effect on you and them...try it

I do hope that this has inspired you to create something similar as there is an abundance of everything whilst doing so, the sheer pleasure &satisfaction of creating and working with mother earth which is also great healing, the pleasure of knowing you have helped create the wine, the incense, the fruit, the veg and on a mundane level it is cheaper and organic.
Many Blessings to all. e head into late Autumn after one of the warmest & sunniest years for ages, the trees are only now starting to change their colours. My outdoor Tomatoes have provided me with fresh fruit all year and right up to the end of September as have the strawberries. The grape vine produced its first fruits this year alas not enough for a great amount of wine but enough to make a start next year will be the one that produces the larger amount (2nd year of fruiting) The Gooseberry bush is flourishing, again this time next season will see an abundance of fruit, in the mean time I keep forgetting how large & sharp the thorns are. Most of September has been spent making smudge sticks from my three varieties of Sage, also I have found that the herb Rosemary makes fantastic incense, a sort of wild woodland burning aroma. So as we head towards Samhain & Winter I have an abundance of pure incense, many gallons of last year’s homemade wines, plenty of old wood and garden 12 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE

REED MOON
I step into the Month of the Ivy Moon.
I step into the Month of the Reed Moon.
I hold a goblet of wine in my hands.
The breeze brings motion and presence –
I see life reflected on the surface. I see the challenges around and ahead; I wonder at their outcome and purpose. I sip the wine and prepare to take action; As the nectar flows through I feel stable. I can see that the battles are already won. I know I am ready and able. I finish the wine with resolve – I breathe deep and prepare to evolve.
I am joined by forms from the past. They are here to guide and to teach me – There are words in the shadows they cast. Forms become bodies and faces Of those who were here once before. They hold candles that light up the darkness. What is broken or hurt they restore. They whisper and float as they gleam; I sleep in their 15
GUIDED MEDITATION
The Moon Goddess…connecting with the inner emotions Always use a protection/banishing ritual to clear your sacred space before any path workings. First of all, find somewhere you will not be disturbed for the duration of the meditation…..find a comfortable position that is right for you.
Now close your eyes…..start to take notice of your breath……now we can start by doing what I term as four fold breathing…..it serves two purposes as whilst you are counting you cannot be thinking of other things and will calm and balance you. (we normally breathe far too shallow which in turn hypes us up)
16 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
Breathe in through your nose slowly to the count of four (not to deeply) then hold your breath to the count of four (keeping it as the same duration) breathe out through the mouth to the count of four….then holding the breath out to the count of four…..repeat this with me for a few moments releasing all the thoughts of the day until you begin to relax and feel calmer.
Now feel you spine and back relaxing and releasing all of the tension…..command the skin on your scalp to loosen……feel all the little muscles in your face relaxing….your ears, eyes, mouth. *************************************** It’s night time, there is a beautiful full moon, thousands of stars shining, you are sitting at the edge of a small lake with a beautiful white lotus flower in the centre watching the reflection of the moon and stars on the calm still water…..just you…the lake, the moon, the stars, a gentle breeze touches your face…… you watch the silver light of the full moon upon the trees in the distance…..you feel calm…. relaxed…..at peace….. Pause for a few minutes…..then just let the thoughts of the day drift by, don’t try to stop them…..imagine putting them to one side for a while…
When you are ready stand up turn around and begin to walk across the moonlit field….feel the energies of the earth rising up through your feet & filling your entire body…..as you walk further you come to a cliff top overlooking a beautiful moonlit much larger lake….on the far side of the lake you can see a cave & a distant figure….the Moon Goddess…… as you look down you can see the shore…..there are ten steps from where you are leading down to that shore with a jetty & a small rowing boat tied up there……picture that scene for a few moments. ************************************* Now you begin to walk down the steps whilst counting in your mind slowly from one to ten (take your time & feel each step taking you deeper into the inner realms) Walk across the shore & along the jetty, untie the boat & climb aboard making yourself comfortable…let your hands dangle in the water… The boat then starts to drift away from the jetty across the lake….just sit & take in the beauty of the moon light upon the water….feel a gentle breeze upon your face, hear the water lapping against the boat…(spend a few moments here until you become entirely at one with the
silence & the beauty of the scenery. *************************************** The boat now arrives at the far shore…climb out of the boat & pull it up on the shore ready for the return journey. Now start to walk towards the moonlit cave…. you see the Moon Goddess approach & greet you with open arms, embrace her & introduce yourself as she leads you back into her cave. The cave contains an Altar with chalice, candle, incense, crystals, flowers & pentagram….….. picture this for a few moments drawing in the aroma of the incense & flowers…moon light bathes the entire cave….she then invites you to sit with her at the Altar & talk with her, asking questions or for help on any fears or worries you may have. Now just remain in the silence with her for a while, let yourself drift with the energies for ten minutes or so…… When you are ready, slowly bring your thoughts back to the cave & the altar…..just relax contemplating what has occurred during your meeting with the moon Goddess as we prepare to return to the physical world…….Embrace & thank her for her help then start to make your way back to the small boat…..push it back into the water, climb aboard…..sit back relax as it slowly drifts back across the moonlit lake…. spend a few moments drawing the energy of the scenery…the moon & stars reflecting on the water & the gentle lapping of the water against the boat. *************************************** We now arrive back at the jetty, climb out & tie the boat up ready for use next time…walk along the jetty & across the shore to the steps that lead up the cliff. Start to climb up the steps by counting each one as you go….staring at ten backwards to one…..When you reach the top begin to walk across the moonlit field back to the small lake with the beautiful white lotus in the centre, again drawing the earths energies up through your feet into your whole body to ground you…..when you reach the lake, slowly bring yourself back to the physical world, open your eyes when ready….do not rush….make sure you are grounded.

The Tarot - From first steps to creating a deck by James Middleditch
An interview with J.r. Rivera, author of the forthcoming Beautiful Creatures Tarot Deck by James Middleditch
A
t the start of this year, The Mystik Way Magazine ran an article suggesting ways of learning to read the Tarot. At the end of the process of learning, it was suggested that creating your very own Tarot deck was the ideal way to master and evolve your skills. J.r. Rivera has not only created his own deck in collaboration with the artist Jasmine Becket-Griffith, but will be sharing it with the world when it is published in December. Its success in pre-order charts is testament to its potential and the immediately engaging design. As we approach the month of publication, J.r. tells us about his early experiences of the Tarot, and explains the background to the creation of his deck‌
J.r. Rivera 18 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
1) Where did the journey begin for you? Do you have any early memories that suggested this pathway was for you? Ever since I was a child, I felt things out of the ordinary. For example, when I would see someone cry, I felt a vast sadness and understanding for that person. When I stayed home alone, I felt like I was being watched by several other beings. I was misunderstood by people, including relatives, but never by my parents. My mother told my grandmother about what I was going through and my grandmother suggested that I should have an ‘instrument’ which would help me develop my abilities which laid dormant and were now awakening. When I was gifted my very first tarot deck, and without ever knowing that there was a manual designed which explained what the cards meant and how to use them, I played and read with my tarot deck using and basing my intuition.
2) What were your first experiences of the Tarot? I was amazed at how accurate they were, at least to me, when I would read for myself! I remember wanting to contact departed souls with my tarot decks and I did so. Those departed souls spoke volumes and some projected their messages in codes through my tarot cards which I did not understand. Some entities would not cross to the other side and preferred to stay with me and every time I would read my tarot cards for myself, they manifested themselves. I would identify them with the use of my tarot cards. For example, I would ask, “Are you the spirit from my last session?” and I’d draw a card and it was the 10 of Cups, same card that was used to identify that entity from my previous session. Apart from this, I found it amazing how the tarot cards can dive and dig deep into a person’s subconscious and show what is going on in there.
3) People often ask us the best way to learn the Tarot - apart from your own of course, are there any decks or methods you would recommend? The ways for learning tarot are never ending. It
can be as simple as ambiguous, and yet rhetorical. When it comes to decks which the person would like to embark on reading tarot for the first time, I recommend that the person chooses a tarot deck which they feel an attraction or better yet, a connectivity. For example, a person searches for tarot decks and come across one which they feel a connection or fascination, then that deck is calling and reaching out for the person. There are far too many methods to learn to read tarot, like one method which as absolutely fascinating is the method where the individual learns through their intuition. When a person gets a first impression of what the card means to them or if it reminds them of some point in their life, but one does need to live and obey by the book. They can’t limit and restrict themselves like that. Also, creating a diary or blogging what the cards mean to them, their own interpretations.
4) Have you faced any resistance or difficult responses to your interest in Tarot? How present is it within your culture? Growing up and being raised a Roman Catholic, there was and is a lot of stigma with tarot. Often people would complain to my parents as to why where they letting their child (which was me), play with the devil’s work? There were far too many things that I went through, but nonetheless, I always had the support of my mother and father as well as my siblings and other family members who saw this craft as a gift or an artistic craft, much like signing or acting. When people who were not well informed about tarot and who would ask me silly and rubbish questions (lol), I would help them understand what tarot was actually all about and for them not to fall for myths about tarot. I’d tell them that a tarot deck is like a tool, you can do good things with a tool or you can do bad things with a tool. Like a hammer, you can nail something to stay in place or you can remove the nails and have something fall apart. If I recall, one pet peeve of mine was when a religious person would try to manipulate me into giving up tarot in order to save me from damnation, which I found absolutely ridiculous to do onto another person. It’s like turning the love of a mother away from their child! 19
5) When did you decide to create your own Tarot deck, and what were your first steps? Ever since the age of 15 I contemplated at the idea of creating my own tarot deck but I did not have the resources or tools to do so. Up until three years ago I mustered the strength and the ability to create a tarot deck using the artwork of Jasmine Becket-Griffith. She had oracle decks released with the artwork in it, but never a tarot deck. At first I wanted to create an oracle deck with her artwork, but decided to create a tarot deck, something that I read for so many years and something that was never created with her artwork. I got in contact with her and explained my idea to her; she loved it and aggressed to work with me on creating the Beautiful Creatures Tarot. The time that it took or organize, select images, outline and plot everything took a great deal of time. Often people asked me how I manage to retain such vitality and patience for such a ‘daunting’ task, and I tell them that when

someone is passionate about something, they overcome the ups and downs that happen when creating something that is burning to be created.
In the next Issue, J.r. tells us more about the creation of the deck, and the unique properties it will embody. In the meantime, you can pre-order the deck on Amazon, or follow J.r. on Facebook to find out more.

Tree of Life
THE SPIRITUAL ASCENT OF GLASTONBURY TOR By Richard Hayes (Warlockway) Glastonbury is a small market town in Somerset, England, which has become a centre of spirituality, with many New Age shops and spiritual organizations. Many pilgrims on the spiritual quest are drawn to it and gain enlightenment from all its activities. The town is situation on the Somerset Levels, a flat area of land just above sea level, which in the ancient past was water and marshes. Glastonbury Tor is a natural feature of the landscape, a hill which stands out proud, towering above the surrounding landscape with the ruined tower of an old church at its summit.
22 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
23
The Tor has been a sacred site since ancient times, and when the Christian Abbey was founded, a church dedicated to St Michael was built at the top of the Tor to suppress the sacred Pagan energies which had gathered there. Nature and the Old Gods had their say, as the church was struck by lightning and burnt down, leaving the tower standing proud. As part of the celebration of Glastonbury, all spiritual pilgrims climb the Tor as a spiritual experience.
forces are balanced by the ultimate power of Divine Spirituality expressed by the morning star Venus at the top of the picture. The Tor stands as a spiritual bridge between the heavens (the home of the gods and spirit beings) and the earth plane of human existence, represented by the everyday activities of the town of Glastonbury.
In the ancient world of Alchemy, many pictures were drawn showing spiritual development as progress up the mount of knowledge, which included a series of stages of spiritual growth. As a celebration of Glastonbury, I have painted a picture of the Tor as the Mountain of Spiritual Progress and Development, celebrating the ancient spiritual science of Alchemy. It is a journey which can be made physically or in the imagination, and explains the process of soul growth and spiritual awareness.
Spiritual Progress up the Tor
At the base of the picture is the town of Glastonbury, and its main street is shown symbolically as the starting point for the spiritual journey. Behind the town is the flat area of the Levels, which forms the meadows at the base of the Tor. Dominating the picture is a depiction of the Tor, with its tower at the summit. Spiritual power pours down onto the tower and the Tor from the heavens. The ancient Pagan power is depicted by the Sun and the Moon, with the power of Pure Spirit represented by a seven-pointed Star situated directly above the Tor.
At the beginning of our spiritual journey, something happens which makes us aware of out spirituality, and creates a desire in us to progress and learn spiritually. The figure shown at the base of the picture has had that experience, and is now setting out on his personal spiritual adventure. His first task is to request access to the Mysteries, shown symbolically in the picture as an Arch and in the reality of the Tor by a Stile, which separates the energies of the town from those of the Tor. Once we have climbed the Stile we are in the meadow at the base of the Tor. At this first stage we meet fellow spiritual travelers and also meet spiritual teachers who can guide us on our way. It is said that “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. At this stage it is advisable to gain as wide an experience and knowledge as possible of many different spiritual traditions, in order that we can find the path that is right for us. Eventually we will find the teachings, and perhaps the teacher, that will set us on the right path along which we can progress with our development. At the base of the Tor, is a hedge and a copse of trees, and it is here that we physically begin our ascent up the Tor, and our personal spiritual journey.
The Sun shines in a daytime sky, representing the positive assertive intellectual powers of male spirituality expressed in Ceremonial Magic, and on the other side of the Tor - the Moon shines at night-time, As we ascend the Tor we raise our representing the negative receptive emotional powers of female spirituality, which are consciousness, and the path up the Tor expressed in Natural Magic. These contrasting represents stages in our spiritual awareness. A 24 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
third of the way up the Tor is a bench which we can sit on, and look out over the town to reflect on our spiritual progress. This is the second stage of our development, when we have to learn to meditate, link with our spiritual selves, and find the still point and peace within. In the picture, our spiritual traveler is shown sitting meditating, reflecting on the image of a Buddha – representing his search for inner peace and spiritual awareness. Every student of the Mysteries has to be able to still their mind and attune to their inner spirit, if they are to progress further on their journey and be able to contact higher spiritual forces. At this stage, we have lifted our consciousness up to a higher level than the mundane, and are ready to link with spirit beings and develop our spiritual skills. The third stage in our journey and development is when we meet our Guides and Helpers, and this is shown as the next stage of our ascent up the Tor. We may at first be introduced to our guides through the mediumship of another person, but in due course as we become more spiritually sensitive, we will be able to link with them ourselves. We will then be able to communicate with them at a mental level. They will respond to our questions and give us advice and guidance, and help us to organize the pattern of both our physical and spiritual lives. We can also attract to us spiritual helpers who have particular gifts such as healing, or specialized knowledge in a particular field. At the fourth stage of our development, we progress further along our path up the Tor, where we become even more sensitive and are able to attune to the higher levels of spiritual consciousness. Here we are able to link with Spiritual Teachers, the Masters and the Angels and Archangels. All these beings are there to communicate wisdom and introduce us to Advanced Spiritual Teachings. The Angels are a source of spiritual power, and are able to help us with advice and assist us with the pattern of
our lives. At this stage of our development, we will have acquired a considerable amount of spiritual knowledge and experience, and may by then be involved in teaching others, and helping them along their spiritual pathway. After many years of spiritual study and practice, we reach the fifth stage of our spiritual progress, when we have gained extensive spiritual knowledge and have developed our spiritual awareness to a high degree. We are now able to take on the mantle of Adepthood, and embrace the level of consciousness obtained by the Spiritual Masters. This is shown in the picture as the Adept, arms aloft towards the heavens, standing at the top of the Tor in front of the ruined tower. At this stage we can then link directly with the Universal Spiritual Power and Wisdom which has expressed itself through all the Ages. At this level we have become ‘as of the gods’ and link to the Divine Powers, shown symbolically in the picture by the Sun, the Moon and the Star. The Ascent of the Tor is symbolic of the Path of Adepthood that has been trodden by many Masters throughout the Ages. Ancient Spiritual Teaching says that having reached Adepthood on earth, we continue to progress even further when we leave the earth plane and progress into the world of spirit. At this level, the most advanced Adepts become the Spiritual Teachers of humanity and channel advanced spiritual energy onto the earth plane. At whatever stage of our development we have reached, we can like the Adept act as a link between the powers of the spiritual world and humanity on earth, and become a beacon of peace, love and spiritual enlightenment for others, encouraging them on their path of spiritual development - up the Tor to Adepthood.

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN OF THE MONTH
LIBRA (21st September – 20th October)
L
ibra is the Seventh sign of the Zodiac, and is associated with the Young Adult who has started to make relationships with the other sex. It is an assertive, Cardinal Air Sign, and Librans are positive and use their mind to make sense of life, and enjoy working with others. The Symbol of Libra is the Scales of Justice, and Librans are fair-minded and are able to weigh up the various aspects of a situation and come to a just conclusion. Like the scales, they desire balance, and are at their best when things can be kept harmonious. They are diplomatic, courteous, amiable, charming, romantic and dependable, but they can also be vain, indecisive, lazy and self-indulgent. The Planet that rules Libra is Venus - the planet of Love, and Librans thrive in relationships. It is also associated with the Arts and beautiful things in general, and Librans will be very conscious of their appearance and will want to be looked on favourably by society. They may find expression in the creative arts, and will surround
26 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
themselves with beautiful objects. Libra rules the Seventh house of Relationships, and relates to all one to one interactions, as well as romantic sexual attractions. As the planet ruling the seventh house, Venus encourages the expression of love in physical relationships, but it also embraces a general love of people in general, and can be expressed as a love for the things most precious to them. Librans will find it easy to relate to the other Air signs – Aquarius and Gemini, who also enjoy using their mind to explore the world around them. They will however be challenged by the energetic and physical nature of Aries, who act first, before making a balanced appraisal of the situation. As the lovers of the Zodiac, Librans thrive in partnerships where they can find their complement and can express their caring nature. They enjoy a good time and like to explore the beauty of the world around them. They may be interested in pictures or antiques, and will enjoy taking part
in the expressive arts. They are concerned about their appearance and will spend money on fine clothes and expensive cosmetics. Librans can see both sides of a situation, and are able to use their mind to balance up conflicting arguments. They are good debaters, and may find success as lawyers or politicians. At other times they can be indecisive, being able to see too many reasons, by trying to justify one side of an argument as better than the other. They can also find fulfillment as actors, artists, singers or dancers. They work well in teams, especially with one other person. They are enthusiastic and use their mind to provide new ideas to initiate action, and can be good in management, being able to see many courses of action. They are at their best in one to one situations with people, make good counselors, and can form close friendships, as they are able to see the other person’s point of view. At their best, they are a loving friend and partner, with a passion to live life to the full. The KEYWORD of LIBRA is HARMONY. 27
As a Spiritualist Medium, I channel inspired writings dictated to me from the Spirit World, usually in the form of Spiritual Guidance.
Moving Forward In your thoughts and in your actions, always keep moving forward. Do not dwell on what has been done or experienced in the past, except to learn something from it. Anything experienced that was hurtful should be looked at to see if we actually played our part in it, and be determined to act differently in future. If it was ourselves who were less than kind, say and mean that you are sorry about it, and allow love to go to that person or situation, and make sure it doesn’t happen again. This can be hard work for our souls, but well worth it in the long run. What is important is what we do or say each day – one day at a time. If we can aim to be kind and caring, to help someone each day, it will be easy to move forward into the next day to do the same again, with no hurtful memories or guilty conscience to weigh you down. In this way you will be able to continue moving forward positively in your life, allowing your mind to be filled with positive thoughts for loving actions. 28 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
Remember that it is as the spirit moves within you and all of human kind that the energy of love can manifest itself in your world. It is through your thoughts and actions that good can come about, and that things can be changed for the better. Humanity is all too quick to blame others, the environment or circumstances, or what seems to be imposed on them. Little do they realize that each person has to play their part by standing up for goodness, love and light – whatever the challenge! As people join together to support their brothers and sisters in times of need – whatever or however this may be – the love from the Great Spirit can shine through to brighten and lighten your world. Live each day with truth and love, and life will move forward in that way also. We will always be there to support you.

Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? by Peta Panos Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it were your last. The past is over and gone. The future is not guaranteed – Wayne Dyer
H
ave you ever found yourself slipping into endurance mode and going through the motions to “get through” today’s to do list? Only to realize later that you have put your daughter’s dance recital, lunch with your parents and date night with your spouse into the same “must do” category, all the while, secretly willing the day to be over so you can curl up in bed and sleep? Amidst guilt, shame and growing angst, you wonder when all of your “want to´s” turned into “have to´s”
36 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
If you resonate with this, take a few deep breaths and know that it is normal to slip into this mindset on occasion, although critical to snap out of it as soon as possible, before it becomes a permanent mindset and you sink into depression.
To find the joy in every moment and transform drudgery days into making the most of each day, it helps to keep in mind that each day can only be lived once and once lived (or endured), it is gone forever! Each day is a gift, which is why it is called the present. From time to time, I ask myself a sobering question – what would I do with my time if I was told that I had one year left to live – 365 precious days before crossing over to the other side and I then take stock of how I am spending my days. It is so easy to focus on what is wrong in your life – what is boring you, where you don’t have enough or the little irritations that build up! And yet, quite simply when you focus on what is right in your life – things really start turning around. The first thing one has to do – is decide to shift one’s mindset from: bored, plodding through life; procrastination and endurance to being present, looking for the joy in every moment and when you pay attention to detail on the little things in life – the big things tend to take care of themselves. The universal law of attraction (like attracts like) is true in all aspects of life, and when you focus on being grateful for what you do have, you attract more to be grateful for.

Animal and plant of the month with Jennifer Adele
Deer Deer are the ruminant mammals forming the family Cervidae. Species in the Cervidae family include white-tailed deer, moose, elk, reindeer, red deer, roe, and chital. This month’s deer totem is energetically closer to the white-tailed deer than other species and will hold more of a feminine interpretation.. The deer’s energetic pattern includes gentleness in all forms and from people in word, thought, and touch. The deer gives the ability to listen well, the grace to move softly and swiftly, and appreciation for the beauty of balance. Deer people have a deep understanding of what’s necessary for survival while countering that severity with the power of gratitude and giving. Oftentimes, people working with deer energy feel a connection to the woodland gods and goddesses and to the woods themselves. Alternative paths will lead deer totem people to their life goals, like deer trails in the forests… barely noticeable to others, but deer folks know that they are there and where they can lead.
If you are looking for an animal to teach you how powerful it is to be of gentle demeanor, to exert keen observation and sensitivity, then deer is an excellent choice for meditation this summer month. Deer are in tune with nature and all it comprises. They are sacred carriers of peace and show those with this power animal how to open their hearts and love unconditionally.
Lily of the Valley Convallaria majalis, commonly known as the Lily of the Valley, is a poisonous woodland flowering plant native throughout the cool temperate Northern Hemisphere in Asia, Europe, and in the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States. It is possibly the only species in the genus Convallaria (or one of two or three, if C. keiskei and C. transcaucasica are recognised as separate species). It was formerly placed in its own family Convallariaceae, or earlier, like many lilioid monocots, in the lily family Liliaceae.
A limited native population occurs in Eastern USA. There is, however, some debate as to the native status of the American variety.
This plant is best known for its wonderfully fragrant petite, white nodding bell shaped flowers, which are surrounded by deep green oval leaves. It spreads nicely as a ground cover for a shaded area or woodland settings and is perfect for those tough spots where nothing else seems to grow.

Witchy Wonderings by your own resident Witch... Rachel Patterson worldwide best selling author
M
y favourite time of the year and it isn’t just because October includes Samhain and my birthday…honest! I love the autumn, the crisp fresh air, the crunch of leaves under foot and the beautiful colours of the trees and fields. Oh and of course sitting indoors on a dark evening, curtains closed, sofa, blanket and a good book having just scoffed a big bowl of casserole and dumplings…bliss.
We roll around from the autumn equinox in September into the excitement of Samhain in October and then edging into Winter that November brings.
To me this is a time to work on your inner self, a time of hibernation. Take the time out to spend with YOU. Meditate and work with your divination tools. Take a look at what worked for you over the past twelve months and what didn’t, do a personal MOT check. Take a good look… what is in your reflection?
With the arrival of Samhain comes the thinning of the veil between the worlds, a time to remember those that have passed over and raise a glass to our ancestors. There is a theme of death at this time of the year. The last harvest is taken in and the plants 40 | MYSTIK WAY MAGAZINE
start to wither and die but what they are actually doing is taking shelter to conserve and rebuild their energies to store them over the winter so that they are ready for the spring to be reborn.
Autumn is a good time to work magic for clearing, inner work, visualisation, banishing, psychic work and divination along with planning new beginnings and manifestation.
How about hosting a Dumb Supper? The idea is that you set your dinner table preferably all in black – but I’m not sure how many people have a black dinner service! Maybe just go with black napkins. You set a place for each of your guests plus one empty chair for spirit and one empty chair for the ancestors. None of the guests are allowed to speak from the minute they enter the dining room until the meal has been finished. The only lighting in the room should be from oil lamps or candles. Each guest should bring with them a blessing written on a small piece of paper.
At the beginning of the meal shroud the empty chair, this is the chair for spirit. Place a white candle on the plate in that place. Set a black candle in front of the other empty chair, this is for the ancestors. Light each candle. Ask spirit
to join you and say that the purpose of the meal is to honour the ancestors.
As each guest enters the room they should each go to the spirit chair and touch it then go to the ancestors chair and place their blessing under the plate. Then all the guests take their seats. You can join hands at this point and say a silent blessing. Everyone is served their meal including the two empty places.
At the end of the meal collect all the written blessings and burn them, lighting them from the black candle. Thank the spirits and the ancestors and then you can all talk! This is also a good time to work with divination together as a group.
Throw the candle stubs and ashes from the burnt blessings into running water or bury them.
If you decorate your altar or home for this season you can have a field day. Go mad with all the Halloween decorations along with symbols of the last harvest such as gourds and apples, good colours to use are reds, gold, orange and black.
If you want to work with deities that are associated with this time of the year you could look at: Persephone, Badb, The Cailleach, Lilith, Hecate, Cerridwen, Fons, Ceres, Jupiter, The Morrigan, Nephthys, Innana, Hades, Dagda, Herne, Cernunnos, Anubis, Pluto, Pomona, Neptune, Bacchus and any of the Crone goddesses.
Totem animal/Fae energies that are particularly associated with these months are bats (obviously), dog, cat, owl, stag, snake, bear, frog, raven, spider, moth, wolf, goblin, harpies and banshees. Veggies that are in season in October/November are artichokes, aubergines, beetroot, borlotti beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage,
carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, celery, chard, chicory, courgettes, cucumber, endive, fennel, French beans, garlic, kale, kohl rabi, leeks, onions, parsnips, peas, peppers, chillies, potatoes, pumpkins, squash, radish, rocket, runner beans, spinach, swede, sweetcorn, tomatoes, turnips and watercress.
If you fancy a bit of foraging during the autumn you may find chickweed, fat hen, nettles, sorrel, watercress, cow parsley, horseradish, wild fennel, crab apples, elderberries, juniper berries, rosehips, sloes, mushrooms, chestnuts and walnuts. But please make sure you have identified them correctly before you eat anything!
If you like working with the energy of crystals then for October and November take a look at black obsidian, smoky quartz, jet, amber, citrine, topaz, garnet, pyrite, quartz, sandstone, gold, diamond, ruby, hematite, black, pink or green tourmaline, opal and lodestone.
Making loose incense or an essential oil blend to help you connect with this season you could try mugwort, catnip, mandrake, oak, sage, allspice, chrysanthemum, apple, pear, hazel, thistle, pomegranate, nuts, pumpkin, basil, camphor, clove, frankincense, yarrow, ylang ylang, heliotrope, mint, nutmeg, myrrh, copal and heather.

Angels By Kate Bowman
What & who are Angels Angels come with unconditional love providing guidance and assistance towards our higher good while always honouring our free will. Angels to me are winged messengers. The word Angel is derived from the ancient Greek word, angelos meaning messenger. They act as a rainbow bridge between what is called heaven and earth serving as a channel between the higher energies of the spirit world and the material physical world. I believe Angels are genderless beings of a vibration that is pure spirit and complete so they are androgynous. Each month I hope to show you the meanings of the different Angel’s for there are many, and each one is unique in its abilities to perform different roles in healing and guidance.
Archangel Azrael - known as the Angel of transition or the Angel of death. He is connected with all transitions and so accounts for all occasions of change. The naming of Azrael is “whom god helps” and his role firstly is to help the crossing over of souls during their passing. Azrael is a celestial angelic being within the angelic order known as the Archangel’s, these are responsible for ministering to humans like manager angels. Archangles oversee the responsibility of guardian Angels and other celestial light beings that act as our guardians and guides. Azrael was the first to be an Archangel. He is also an Angel of Akasha, a master keeper of the Akashic records overseeing our recording of our lives and the detailing of our karmic debts incurred and settled. Not long after his creation it is believed Azrael was assigned to study a mystical experience not well understood at that time, the disposition of human souls. The angels had long known some souls arrived safe in heaven and some had not reincarnation and oblivion were one thought but no one really knew where the missing souls were going and so Azrael was given the word of death to ensure all souls would arrive safely and be guided to help with difficult passing’s . In his research it is believed the revelation

of the fate of those humans who were weighed down by their selfishness. They were banished to a neither realm on thje celestial plane - known as hell. This revelation appalled heaven and so Azrael was elevated to Archangel and given his duties. He and his servitors would gently separate ghosts and dream shades from their anchors retrieve pagan souls from their ethereal domain’s and prevent the demons from claiming any new souls that didn’t belong to them. Azrael and his servitors were also to teach humans to accept death that it was merely a transition to their next state and that if they lived their lives well with good intent they had no need to fear it.
Azrael also learnt to forgive and helpsouls who were dammed to hell to suffer for all eternity for mistakes they had made in their too short mortal existence. He began ministering to them and convert those to selflessness and liberating them. Quiet and composed with great strength he will work with grief councillors to help shield them from absorbing their clients aches and pains and to guide their words and actions for maximum effective. Also working deeply with mediums and whose life purpose involves providing spiritual guidance. It is no wonder he is the Angel of the moon with all this emotional energy. Call upon Archangel Azrael to help comfort a loved one who is nearing their passing and who may be suffering. Call upon him for those left behind he will surround grieving family members with his healing energy and divine light to help them.
Meditate with Archangel Azrael and he will provide opportunity to realise peace, give comfort knowing your loved ones are safe and well in spirit, heal and transcend grief, guilt, regret un forgiveness or any other energy that is ready to be released and healed in relation to the transition of a loved one. His colour is often seen as pale yellow or similar to vanilla. ruling sign -scorpio ruling planet - pluto crystal - yellow calcite Angel Blessings xKate x

he Vanilla Orchid (family Orchidaceae), also known as Vanilla Planifolia or Vanilla Fragrans, is a variety of vine endemic to Mexico. The famous navigator Hernan Cortes was the first foreigner to discover and bring back the vanilla plant to Europe, and it’s growth spread from there. Prior to his discovery, the Aztecs used vanilla to flavor a chocolate drink. Vanilla is the only orchid that can produce edible fruits, which takes up to 3 years. As a symbol often interpreted in dreams due to its presence in our waking state, vanilla is said to represent all things good and a joyous invitation soon to arrive your way. Love, affection, and splendor are also within the domain of the vanilla plant as symbol. Symbolism: love, luxury, beauty, splendour, lucid dreaming, and strength.
