Project:

Anti Bullying Poster Concentrate your conceptual thinking on finding a way to promote people to think about the cause. Simply get their attention to get them to think. For example, interpret the statement “Helping means...” or “Being victimized means ...” or ask the viewer a question: “What would you do with this information?” • Your solution should grab the attention of people walking by. • Be sure to establish a visual hierarchy.

Career Academy Goal: Increased Student Achievement

Creating an Ad Campaign for a Novel

For this assignment the students were to create an ad campaign for the novel that they read, geared toward their classmates as the target audience. They completed the assignment in a small groups. The components of the assignment were as follows: The group had to include two of the three following media genres in the campaign: Newspaper ad, Magazine ad, Posters, Billboards, Book Displays, Book Jackets.

The group also had to include a written analysis of the persuasive techniques and advertising claims that they used and how they appeal to the target audience. Each member of the group turned in his or her own analysis. As a reminder, the advertising techniques that were covered were: Bandwagon, Avant-garde, Testimonials, Facts and figures, and Transfer. They were not limited to these techniques. Also, the rhetorical appeals were reviewed from your previous classes (glittering generalities, card stacking, celebrity endorsement, rhetorical questions, etc‌). They were encouraged to include these techniques in their campaigns.

Freshman English

Working on this assignment required the class to relocate to the commercial art lab for a couple of days. The students were able to use the the art room for the week to create posters for their English assignment. Grades were given in both subjects for this integrated assignment.
