OASIS COMMUNITY WEDNESDAYS, STARTING IN SEPTEMBER Facilitators: Dr. Terry Hargrave & Sharon Hargrave, LMFT

Wednesdays, September 15—October 20 6-7PM, Sanctuary Masks? Vaccinations? The Election? Policing? Sexuality? Wherever we look, we are overwhelmed with conflict, conspiracies, aggression, anger, and even hate. This deadly polarization makes it seem impossible to hang together as a church and as a family. Our goal in this interactive class is to understand our own polarization and the emotional turmoil in our identity and safety that got us to this position. We will learn how to relate and understand the emotional pain of those “on the other side” and how to dialogue without escalating anger and bitterness. Finally, we will learn how—even when we differ dramatically—we can move forward with a oneness that allows each person to contribute the gifts they bring to relationships.

Terry Hargrave, Ph.D. is nationally recognized for his pioneering work with intergenerational families and is the founder of Restoration Therapy. His work has been featured on ABC News’ 20/20, Good Morning America, and CBS Early Morning. Dr. Hargrave is the Evelyn and Frank Freed Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona. Sharon Hargrave, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona, California, and Texas. The founder of RelateStrong, Sharon serves Pepperdine University’s Boone Center for the Family as a consultant. She is also an affiliate faculty member in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Fuller Theological Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona.

TWO SPECIAL CLASSES FROM ADVENTURES IN LEARNING

The Christian Heritage Involved in the Founding of the United States Tuesday, November 2 7-8:30PM (Doors open at 6:30PM), Sanctuary Presented by Senator Jon Kyl

The United States Government was created to protect our God-given rights. If we are, indeed, created in the image of God, and He has endowed us with rights, it follows that we have a sacred duty to preserve and protect those rights. How should we do that? Refreshments available after class.

There is Nothing Wrong with Our Constitutional System That a Little “Civic Virtue” Won’t Cure Tuesday, November 9 7-8:30PM (Doors open at 6:30PM), Sanctuary Presented by Senator Jon Kyl

Some people are disheartened by what they perceive is a dysfunctional federal government, and propose to “streamline” the Constitution as a solution. The structure of our Constitution can continue to enable us to govern ourselves, if we understand and follow it and do so as our Founders intended, by conducting our affairs with civic virtue—that is, the commitment to the greater good, rather than narrow selfish purposes.
