Division 2 updates:
• Caloundra’s Customer Service Centre at the Omrah Avenue administration building has moved to a new location at 77 Bulcock Street.
• Refurbishment at the Omrah administration building is expected to start in mid-2023 to build a green-star library, a new customer service centre, community meeting spaces and covered outdoor areas.
• The Caloundra Community and Creative hub design will continue once council finalises the
Caloundra Regional Gallery. We look forward to releasing the community’s vision of an expanded green space and town square which connects The Events Centre, new district library and the gallery through to Bulcock street.
• The Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU) is just one of the Division 2 projects that will help reduce traffic congestion, improve travel, and help attract business investment into Caloundra’s CBD. Since our last community update in November 2022, two stakeholder interest group meetings have been undertaken and members are continuing to work closely with the project team to progress the detailed design. To find out more about the outcomes from the SIG meetings, search ‘CTCU’ on council’s website. Further updates will be released as the project continues.
Please keep an eye on my Facebook page for the latest Division 2 news and information.
From newly opened stores, to celebrating the development of a future bigger and better town library, there is plenty happening in the coastal and vibrant village of Caloundra.
Monica Naples, Sunshine Coast’s local tea blender and owner of loose-leaf tea company ARTEA The Tea Merchant, has opened a boutique tea bar and shop in the centre of Caloundra. It comes after a recent rebrand, from AR-T The Art of Tea, sparked the idea to open a retail tea shop with a tea bar. ARTEA The Tea Merchant: Tea Bar is a place to sip and buy hand-blended teas. There are daily tea tastings, rotating cold brew teas and specialty tea drinks.
In addition to her own Organic Fairtrade tea blends and tisanes, Monica also serves up a tea connoisseur range, made of premium small estate teas from around the world. “As the local interest and knowledge of tea grows, I would like to offer a wider range of premium world-renowned teas.”
One of her bestselling iced teas is Hibiscus Mint, a refreshing and beautifully coloured herbal blend. You can find ARTEA The Tea Merchant: Tea Bar at 121b Bulcock Street, Caloundra and online at theteamerchant.com.au.
Abustling, vibrant browsing street known as the best shopping experience in southeast Queensland – that’s the Caloundra Chamber’s goal for Bulcock Street by 2027. From iconic storefronts inspired by Melbourne’s bustling streets to arcades filled with artisan food stores, fashion designers and artists, Bulcock Street will rival experiences offered by Hastings and James streets.
As the fastest-growing area on the Sunshine Coast, Baringa has a younger demographic than the rest of the state. Millennials are being attracted to Caloundra’s entrepreneurial spirit, creative culture and connectivity. Known for their eagerness to spend money, especially on avocado toast, millennials provide an extraordinary retail opportunity with 83 per cent of the generation prioritising value-based shopping. They live and breathe Caloundra’s values, are the most likely to eat out in restaurants, and will prioritise ethical consumption over price.
So how do we create a shopping experience that will satisfy millennials and in turn create a strong prosperous future for Caloundra? Teamwork. Through working with the Caloundra Business
Alliance, the Downtown Caloundra Taskforce, and creating the Caloundra Markets, the Caloundra Chamber is eager to boost visitation through the implementation of affordable and appealing public transport such as better foot and bike paths, micro-mobility solutions and new technologies like autonomous vehicles. It’s also time we see action on infrastructure investments promised to Caloundra.
New hotels, a major library, art gallery and a world-class city centre, just to name a few. These big-ticket items combined with southeast Queensland’s best shopping experience on Bulcock Street’s spectacular streetscape will help position Caloundra as a globally attractive place to live, work and play for all.
I wish you and your families a happy Easter.Monica Naples
The transformation of Caloundra’s city centre has taken another step forward.
Sunshine Coast Council’s Customer Service Centre at Omrah Avenue has moved a short stroll away to 77 Bulcock Street, heralding an exciting development.
It’s the start of a series of changes to make way for the rejuvenation of the town’s heart, a new precinct for community and creativity, known as the Caloundra Community and Creative Hub.
Customer Service’s temporary move will pave the way for a major repurposing of the Omrah Avenue administration building.
Once renovated, levels one and two of the building will be home to a new district library, a new customer service centre, community meeting spaces and covered outdoor areas. Meanwhile, the upper level of the building will provide community venue space and staff administration offices.
The new facility will be the first contemporary library for the Sunshine Coast Local Government area in more than 20 years, and will meet the highest environment and sustainable standards.
Upon completion, around 150 council staff will continue to work from the new district library and
community building.
The Caloundra Community and Creative Hub has a strong focus on good quality urban design outcomes, improved park and streetscape spaces that link to Bulcock Beach, and improved connection between the new library, The Events Centre and future new regional gallery.
It will be a place for both indoor and outdoor cultural and community activities and celebrations.
The precinct will be managed in stages and delivered over the coming years.
This project will boost investment confidence and establish Caloundra as a leading business, employment, cultural and community service hub and act as a catalyst for private investment in the town centre.
The refurbishment of the Omrah Avenue administration building is expected to start in mid-2023 and the new library and community building is scheduled to open its doors to the community and staff in early 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
For more information about the project visit Sunshine Coast Council’s website and search for Caloundra Centre Activation Project.
Kim McCosker, Caloundra Business Alliance (CBA) presidentAs the new president of the Caloundra Business Alliance (CBA), I would like to start by extending a heartfelt thank you to the office bearers, committee and alliance members who have gone before us, paving the way for the connected and positive CBA today.
In addition, I would like to extend an invitation to all businesses within the Caloundra CBD to join us. We are a not-for-profit made up of volunteers who are passionate about Caloundra, all who share the vision of making it the number one ‘browsing street’ in southeast Queensland by 2027.
Volunteering makes a difference and together we can achieve so much more than as individuals. we welcome all. Visit shopcaloundra.com.au/ membership for details.
It’s an extremely exciting time for Caloundra. There is a feeling that our patience has paid off, and that finally the vision we all have for a world-class Caloundra city centre is within reach. There is a wonderful, productive energy between the Caloundra Taskforce, the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and the CBA. We meet regularly to discuss the opportunities and ways to support the Sunshine Coast Council and the vision for a community and creative hub that will attract not only locals, but intrastate and interstate visitors too.
We eagerly await the commencement of the new library, and updates of the new regional art gallery and village green. Caloundra is ready for change – ready for a city centre that offers improved links to Bulcock Beach, to The Events Centre, and as one prominent, local lawyer recently wrote, “provides more options for our young people, as well as a lively area for people of all ages to go for coffee, long lunches, drinks and dinner.”
Caloundra already offers a variety of unique and interesting shops, cafes, and restaurants. These are owners who put their heart and soul into your shopping experience. There is ample parking within our CBD (paid and free) so if you haven’t visited for a while we’d LOVE to see you.

Running a successful business is a dream shared by many, but achieving this goal requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and attention to detail.
by Katrina Brennan Principal SRJ Walker Wayland Sunshine Coastcash flow is one of the most critical financial tasks for any business.
Financial reporting, cash flow analysis, and compliance with tax and regulatory requirements are all essential components of running a successful business. Therefore, checking your figures regularly is crucial to ensure that you stay on top of your business’s financial health.
Checking your numbers means reviewing your financial statements and ensuring that they are accurate and up-to-date. This task should be done on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to monitor your business’s financial performance continually. By doing so, you can identify potential issues before they become major problems, and make informed decisions to steer your business towards success.
Monthly check-ins should focus on reviewing your financial statements, including your profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. These reports provide insight into your business’s financial performance, including your revenue, expenses, and profitability. By reviewing these reports regularly, you can identify areas where you can improve your profitability and reduce your expenses to optimize your business’s financial health.
Quarterly check-ins should focus on compliance with tax and regulatory requirements, such as the Business Activity Statement (BAS). Meeting all of your tax obligations is crucial to avoid penalties and keep your business in good standing with the Australian Taxation Office. Ensuring that you submit accurate and timely BAS statements, pay the correct amount of GST, and claim any GST credits you are entitled to is essential for your business’s financial success.
In conclusion, regularly checking your numbers is essential to run a successful business. By monitoring your financial performance on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, you can identify potential issues, make informed decisions, and meet your financial obligations. Remember, keeping track of your numbers is the key to success!
Weekly check-ins should focus on cash flow analysis. Knowing how much money is coming in and going out of your business can help you avoid cash flow issues that could impact your business’s financial stability. In a true celebration of locals supporting locals, a group of Downtown Caloundra businesses have teamed up with a local distillery to showcase its products.
The Pocket Espresso Bar, Amici Restaurant, Moffat Beach Brewing Co and The Events Centre are stocking or using Beachtree Distilling Co’s range of alcohol in their bars.
Esther Bundellu, from The Pocket Espresso, says the aim of the collaboration is to build up the Caloundra small business community and create amazing experiences for its customers.
“Locals supporting locals is the absolute key to supporting the economic growth of our area,” she says.
“With quite a few curve balls being thrown in the way of small business over the last few years, local community support is the backbone of our survival and will continue to be.
“We had already taken on [Beachtree’s] product in our restaurant some time ago and we love it.
“It’s delicious and uniquely Australian. It’s been amazing to learn more about their business and their story.
“We are blessed with such an amazing range of businesses and I appreciate the opportunity to connect with them and continue to make our area great.”
The idea has been inspired by Downtown Caloundra through encouraging genuine connections between business owners.

It’s time for the annual Local Artists Local Content exhibition at the Caloundra Regional Gallery. This year, more than 160 entries were received – but they only have room for 40 works. This leaves many local artists with a special painting depicting our region now in limbo. But, problem solved! Robyn Boston, owner of Caloundra’s Talented Friends Gallery in the Village Walkway, is now hanging many of these works. Robyn is an enthusiastic supporter of local art and artists, and her gallery is testament to that. Talented Friends Gallery shows a huge variety of work, all made locally, with something for every budget and taste.
There will be an evening showing on Thursday, 13th April, 2023 with bubbles and grazing, from 5.30 pm to 7pm, where you will see some of the Local Artists Local Content entries that are not displayed in the Regional Gallery. Paintings of merit, that didn’t make the cut, will be changed regularly so that they can be seen by art lovers of the region. This is a celebration of the Sunshine Coast as seen and interpreted by our artists. The exhibition is open now and closes on Friday, May 12th. Talented Friends Gallery is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 9am –1 pm and at other times by appointment.

Thousands of music lovers, local artists and businesses will be cheering after a much-loved Sunshine Coast event was secured for another three years to 2025. The Caloundra Music Festival, which attracts fans and musicians from far and wide, injects more than $3 million into the local economy each year. The festival presents affordable, family-friendly entertainment to a broad demographic, performance opportunities for local artists and support for charities, venues, businesses, accommodation providers and schools.
The event also promotes accessibility, diversity and inclusivity and helps bind the community, attracting more than 500 volunteers.
The 2022 festival celebrated 15 years at the iconic beachside location of Kings Beach and received a nomination in the 2023 Queensland Music Awards People’s Choice for Festival of the Year.
Attendees came from every state in Australia and also New Zealand, enjoying the three-day event which showcased 70 artists, including 30 local acts.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg says the festival is a much-loved event that is great for the region.
“Delivering this festival fosters economic benefits, cultural development and community outcomes, and continues to evolve environmental sustainability,” Cr Landsberg says.
“We have plenty of achievements to show over the past 15 years, from infrastructure improvements around Kings Beach Parklands, to showcasing our very own local high school students on the festival stage and helping Caloundra State School’s Parents and Friends Association raise thousands of dollars for school programs.
“With all the challenges faced by the industry – the COVID-19 pandemic, weather events, financial challenges and venue closures – it’s important now, more than ever, that we get behind this festival.
“Our festival provides real opportunities for emerging Sunshine Coast musicians to perform in a world-class environment alongside major international and national artists.”
Meridan State College band Lamkin Lane, winners of the SURGE high school rock spectacular, performed at their first-ever music festival.
Coast businesses advertised for free to patrons using the festival app and a large number of contracts were awarded to local suppliers. Sunshine Coast Youth Council, YouTurn and Headspace worked with festival organisers to create a youth zone used as a chill out space.
An integral part of the festival’s delivery has been a focus on sustainability and, in 2022, more than 80 per cent of all waste generated by the festival was diverted away from landfill.
Real progress has been made in building sustainability and the next stage will be measuring water, energy and visitor activities to determine carbon emissions.
The Caloundra Music Festival aims to build on the Sunshine Coast’s environmental credentials with the goal of becoming the region’s first carbon net zero music event by 2027.
Artist applications are now open for the spring festival, which will run from September 29 to October 1, 2023.
Artists and festival fans can follow on Facebook and Instagram @caloundramusicfestival or subscribe at caloundramusicfestival.com
