Christmas is a time for reflection and giving, and here in Division 2, we have some great ideas to help make this year’s festive season one of the best. Our community is lucky to have plenty of local businesses offering a variety of products, services and experiences. I encourage you to shop locally this Christmas because when you buy local, you are supporting local families, jobs and investing in our economy.
If you’re looking for a unique hand-crafted piece,
check out the Caloundra Regional Gallery store. From ceramics and textiles, to jewellery, children’s toys and artist books, the gallery store celebrates the local, the handmade and the environmentally aware.
Another gift you might consider giving is a gift of your time. I encourage you to search ‘volunteering’ on Council’s website (sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au) and discover ways to gift your time this Christmas.
If you’re looking for school holiday fun, we’re spoilt for choice. Our amazing beaches, parks and
the Caloundra Aquatic Centre all offer wonderful choices to help keep us all active and entertained.
With COVID restrictions now lifted, it’s shaping up to be a great time with friends and family. Don’t forget to stay safe on the roads and reach out to a neighbour or someone who may be doing it tough. Please keep connected on my Facebook page and look out for our local Christmas events and shopfront decorations. I wish you and yours all the best this festive season.
From newly opened stores, to celebrating the development of a bigger and better town library, there is plenty happening in the coastal and vibrant village of Caloundra.
With passion and a baby in her arms, Courtney Blake is keeping five generations of family history alive in Caloundra’s main street. Wanting to create a supportive community for other mothers, and a place they could find beautiful baby goods, she opened Husk and Will baby and kids boutique.
“I’ve always believed that the secret to a happy life is finding a way to make the world a better place,” she says. “That’s why, when I was in the middle of being a busy, sleep-deprived mum I knew I had to share my passion and purpose with the world.”
Ms Blake says the Bulcock Street shop building holds a special place in her heart. “My greatgrandparents operated a shoe store, Shannon’s Shoes, in the same building for 30 years,” she says. “My mum has now owned Shannon’s Shoes for 17 years and it is now located across the road. She has fond memories of running around the store as a child. It’s heart-warming that now my children will be doing the same thing.” Visit huskandwill.com.au.
Caloundra Administration Building will soon be re-purposed into a new green-star certified, district level library with integrated community spaces – the first new library for the Sunshine Coast Local Government area in more than 20 years.
The establishment of a new contemporary district library in the heart of the community and creative hub will be another step towards creating an integrated public realm connecting The Events Centre, a proposed new Regional Gallery, and new town square through to Bulcock Beach.
It is anticipated the re-purposing works will take about 18 months with the new library expected to open by the end of 2024.
The proposed District Library is part of the Caloundra Centre Activation Project and aligns with visions of the Caloundra Centre Master Plan, presented to the community and endorsed by council in 2017.
Caloundra’s entrepreneurial spirit continuously attracts newcomers to the area and the chamber’s dynamic approach and ability to connect people has helped our business community benefit from the region’s growth and opportunity.
The Queensland Regional Profiles report states Caloundra is predicted to be the Sunshine Coast’s largest town with its population to grow from 82,926 to 187,065 by 2041. To harness the growth we must continue to attract young professionals. Data shows the Coast has a disproportionate workforce age to the rest of the state, with 25 to 34-years-old catering for just 13.1 per cent of our region’s workforce.
With countless innovative businesses calling our region home there are exciting career opportunities, but improving the affordability and availability of housing and boosting nightlife will be pivotal in attracting the younger demographic to our region.
The Caloundra Chamber is active in addressing our region’s challenges and dedicated to supporting all businesses.
Caloundra is a thriving and growing township. With its beachside location, appealing CBD and proactive business community, it is no wonder this family-friendly town is always attracting new and exciting offerings for shoppers to enjoy.
Featuring beautiful Indigenous artworks inspired by the artist’s ancestors, this gorgeous First Nations-owned boutique also specialises in dried flowers, homewares, decor, clothing and jewellery.

The Beachtree Distilling Co. story is a tale based on love that began with a boy, standing in front of a girl, confessing his love for handcrafted spirits.
That boy was Steve; a Kamilaroi man and Beachtree’s master distiller. After many years working as a qualified tradesman, Steve decided to channel his electro technology and engineering experience into his true passion. The result? A distillation and filtration method unique to Beachtree Distilling Co.
Standing in front of Steve, that girl was Beachtree’s co-creator, Kirra. Raised on Bundjalung Country, some of Kirra’s earliest memories include stamping on grapes during her family’s wine
production. While her mother and nonna introduced her to delicious homemade wine and grappa, fresh herbs and homegrown produce, she also worked the land on her father’s macadamia farm.
Kirra’s knowledge of hand-grown produce is evident in Beachtree’s fresh, crisp and clean taste –and the fact all products are proudly additive- and preservative-free.
So, in 2020 this love for small-batch distilling and Australian bush flavours led Steve and Kirra to join hands to create Beachtree Distilling Co. – where the love story continues…

The Caloundra Business Alliance has a new committee and is looking forward to new ideas and loads of enthusiasm from the team to continue to bring people into our amazing CBD.
We would like to pass on our congratulations to the efforts of the past committee members, especially Selina Smith, who over the past few years has given over and above her time and effort to showcase, promote and share her passion to all businesses in the CBD. Many thanks to you Selina!
The new committee consists of Graeme Bowden, Gaile Lillico, Niki Selig, Chris Stewart, Kendall Morton and Batia Grimbald, along with Kim McCosker as on onboard consultant. We have had our first meeting and are looking forward to making Shop Caloundra that must-see and must-visit location on the Sunshine Coast.
We have teamed up with the Sunshine Coast Turf Club to become the major sponsor of Fashions on the Field, providing beautiful hampers for the prize winners. These prizes have been provided from local businesses – some new and some well-established.
Thank you to Cozie Swimwear, Chaps Menswear, Tirzart, Fantastic Ms Fox, Sportsfirst, Blushing Ivy and award-winning Beachtree Distilling Co. Also included in the hampers are $1200 of Shop Caloundra gift cards to spend at our registered stores.
We are planning to host several fundraisers this year to be able to continue to run promotions and events that help market our shopping precinct. We are currently running a raffle for beautiful Baroque Tahitian pearls, valued at $3500. This will be drawn on December 19, just in time for a beautiful Christmas gift
Our next raffle will be a fabulous Caloundra Accommodation package, which will include a weekend’s accommodation, a beautiful gift hamper filled with local products, and of course Shop Caloundra gift cards to spend in the Caloundra CBD.
We are committed, motivated, enthusiastic, and working close with both the Downtown Caloundra Taskforce and the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce to promote Caloundra and offer support to businesses. This will help to achieve maximum economic return combined with recognition for our must-see tourist destination.
Graeme Bowden, Caloundra Business Alliance Chairman
