Editor’s letter

ne of the younger Pearson’s favourite pastimes is to dress up. His bedroom storage boxes and baskets are brimming with superhero outf ts, ninja costumes, homemade ‘weapons and shields’, and all manner of tea towels, belts, scarves and paraphernalia that f re the imagination. Last Sunday (when the mercury was hovering around 30 degrees) he was getting around in pale blue jeans and a green jumper (he was a forest soldier from the movie Epic). The day before he emerged from his bedroom in his long black school pants, a black t-shirt, hairband, a pair of dark gloves and a stick tucked into his belt (inspired, no doubt, by some ninjas in the movie The Last Airbender). He has several Spiderman outf ts, and has the cast from The Avengers covered (Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, etc, etc). So this week as I perused Sam Walker’s cover story, I had something of a light bulb moment - I really need to get the kid into some kind of theatre group! It’s perhaps lucky for me that we are spoilt for choice. Like the younger Pearson’s dress-up boxes, the Sunshine Coast theatre scene is brimming with colourful characters. Sam has discovered that far from a modest gathering of thespians, the local scene is big business, nurturing the talents of adults and children alike. Turn the page to f nd out more. State of play MWP’S SAM WALKER MEETS THE VIBRANT, ENTHUSIASTIC TROUPE OF LOCALS WHO MAKE UP THE SUNSHINE COAST’S THEATRE SCENE.

or a passionate group of Coast residents, playing dress-up never gets old. They are part of a vibrant, energetic and thriving theatrical community that spans the length and breadth of the Sunshine Coast. Meet the region’s thespians. These dedicated individuals come from all walks of life – they are doctors, lawyers, teachers, graphic designers, students, accountants, retirees and business people. And they regularly shed the trappings of their daily lives to step into the shoes of others. Between them they entertain thousands of people every year with myriad productions from one-act plays to drama, choir performances and big-name musicals. Sunshine Coast Live Theatre Alliance publicity off cer Synda Turnbull says the Coast’s theatre industry is huge. The Alliance represents nine performing arts groups across the Coast, including Noosa Arts Theatre, The Lind (formerly Lind Lane Theatre) at Nambour and Sunshine Coast Oriana Choir. “We produce, collectively, in excess of 50 productions a year,” Turnbull tells MWP. It’s an average of nearly one production a week and ensures there is plenty of theatrical and musical variety for theatre-lovers across the region to choose from. And Turnbull says the Coast is blessed with an amazing number of talented actors of a calibre high enough to mix it with the nation’s professionals. For many of them life’s circumstances have taken them down different career paths but their voluntary performances continue to enrich the Coast’s theatre industry. “A lot of people get obsessed with going to Brisbane to see the theatre but forget what we have here,” Turnbull says. While the actors are the face of the theatrical community, Turnbull says behind the scenes there are a huge number of dedicated people working tirelessly to help bring each production to fruition. These are the set designers and builders, the

costume designers and wardrobe people, the sound and lighting technicians, the ushers and the front-of-house people selling programs and refreshments. Caloundra Chorale committee member and honorary life member Maria Lindsay says theatre companies always welcome those who don’t want to perform on stage but are keen to help in other ways. “There is an amazing array of people who don’t perform at all who do front of house.” And she says training is a big part of a theatre group and is usually provided for anyone keen to learn the different aspects, whether it is acting, lighting or costume design. But of course no production would succeed without the skills of the director, who drives the show and a talented playwright to create it. Lindsay says some directors get a following and people will come to a show because of them. Respected Australian playwright David

Williamson, a patron of the Noosa Arts Theatre and supporter of the Noosa Long Weekend, has helped shine a spotlight on the Coast’s theatre industry. “Obviously having the presence of Australia’s most renowned playwright here is a fabulous thing and I think he has managed to lift the prof le of arts on the Sunshine Coast to some degree,” Turnbull says.

All-inclusive

But what drives people to the theatre? For some it is the thrill of watching a live production – the atmosphere and anticipation they experience. For others it is the desire to get on stage and perform. Lindsay, who joined the Caloundra Chorale in 1983, loves it all. The Chorale, which has about 140 members, is one of the few organisations to have its own choir and theatre group and Lindsay is a member of both.

“The performers just love being on stage basically,” she explains. But she says everybody – performers and audience – gets an opportunity to put life’s worries aside and enjoy a bit of escapism at a live production. “It’s interesting the number of performers who, if asked to get up and perform or sing as themselves f nd it very diff cult, but put them in costume, give them a character and they have no problems at all. They just need the anonymity, I suppose, of a character to be able to really let themselves go.” Turnbull says it is also a huge adrenalin rush.“Feeling that audience applause is a feeling you can’t describe to people unless they’ve done it themselves.” Lindsay is particularly fond of comedy and drama productions and played a part in the Chorale’s performance of Calendar Girls last year. “I have moved into the old woman category but lucky for me it’s the era of the older woman.” But one of the great things about the theatre is its appeal to all ages and she says the Chorale, which has a successful junior program, is proud of the age diversity in their theatre with their oldest member in her 80s. Turnbull agrees. “You can have a production where you have a seven-year-old child on stage with a 70-year-old,” she says. “It’s a really unusual environment because sport is so often agecategorised and theatre isn’t.” She believes all ages benef t from the experience.

Show business

Caloundra Chorale has staged some big productions over the past four decades including Jesus Christ Superstar, The Boy from Oz, Les Misérables and Cats. This year it is staging My Fair Lady, which it last performed when Lindsay joined the group in 1983. “We’ve got a very solid, committed, loyal audience base. Our last several shows have been sold out,” she says. While the majority of people involved with the Coast’s theatre industry are dedicated volunteers, Turnbull says the industry plays a role in the region’s economy. “It’s big business on the Coast and some of the businesses are

FAST FACTS BATS Theatre Company and Lind Lane Theatre are the oldest theatre groups on the Coast. Lind Lane Theatre began as the Nambour Amateur Theatre Society in 1945 with its first production in 1946 and will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year. BATS officially began in the early 1940s but its origins date back to the 1920s. In 2003 developers of Nambour Plaza acquired the land Lind Lane Theatre was built on. A new $1.4 million custom-built theatre, now known as The Lind was opened on Mitchell Street in Nambour in 2004. The University of the Sunshine Coast’s Performing Arts Kollective (PAK), established in 2012, is the Coast’s newest theatre group. Caloundra Chorale has built its own theatre on land owned by the group at Wurtulla. Noosa Arts Theatre is one of the few places in Australia licensed to screen live recordings from the National Theatre in the UK.

Theatre productions require printing and design for brochures and posters. They need sign writing and food and beverage providers. They need fabric for curtains and costumes and props for the stage. And they use a range of tradespeople to keep the theatre running smoothly. There are also acting and drama schools contributing to the industry. Robyn Ernst started BYTE, the Buderim Youth Theatre of Excellence, in 2000 and she has grown it from a small business with one or two staff members to a thriving theatre company with about 300 students and 10 employees. She says it is an exciting time for Coast theatre, with so much diversity and so many talented young people. Her master class students put on a major production each year, which she says rivals the best performances on the Coast. “There’s a really continued over>

exciting, vibrant 18-to-25 set on the Coast now that a lot of theatre companies could be making a lot more use of.” And she expects they will if they choose things young people are interested in, like Westside Story, produced by Noosa Arts Theatre last year. There are also a growing number of playwrights on the Coast and a competition for playwrights. Ernst says her sister, Peta Beattie, is a talented local playwright and the two of them write plays for her theatre group so they can guarantee every child will have a part. With so much diversity on the Coast in all facets of theatre Turnbull is encouraging people who may not have seen a live theatre performance or who have not been to a Coast production for a while to give it a go. The colourful world of theatre, the characters and stories might provide a whole new world of entertainment to explore.

Children from the age of four are taking to the stage in public halls and theatres across the Coast, where they are learning to sing, dance, act and ultimately, entertain. They have a lot of fun dressing up in costumes and taking on different characters but they are gaining so much more from the experience. Sunshine Coast Live Theatre Alliance publicity off cer Synda Turnbull says the theatre builds self-esteem. “I f nd kids that come through theatre have a real sense of self-worth and conf dence that they might not have otherwise,” Turnbull says. BYTE owner and director Robyn Ernst, whose students put on a production each year, agrees. “That’s why we provide them with those opportunities to perform,” Ernst says. “The more you do it, the easier it becomes every time. Even performing in front of each other in class every week.” She says there are many benef ts for children including the development of public speaking and debating skills, improving memory and enhancing reading skills. She says many of her students do very well at school and graduate with high OP scores. “It’s important for adult theatre to recognise that they’ve got a lot of those kids around now and hopefully start using them,” she says.

ormer Noosa and Sunshine Coast councillor Lew Brennan has left the council chambers for the last time and taken up his easel and paintbrush, as he now re-focuses his attention towards his art. For the past 15 years Brennan has been a passionate advocate of using his creativity to f nd solutions for the many projects he has been involved with on the Sunshine Coast. Since leaving his position as division 12 councillor he has enjoyed the opportunity to put his creative mind to good use, on his own projects, and his lifelong passion for drawing and painting. Brennan remembers his council years with fondness. “The best times in my 15 years in council was putting forward creative ideas and solutions, and then working with the amazing team to make stuff happen. Although I miss the input on redeveloping the CBD of Maroochy, I’m now happily focused on my art at long last.” Brennan describes his art as ‘super realism’ with a focus on rural themes inspired by his 40-year history on a farm in Cooran, and his time living a country life.

“I’ve labelled my art SurRuralism, a term that ref ects the blend of rural themes, realism and a touch of surreal, in the use of strong colours or the removal of backgrounds, and the isolation of core elements.” When it comes to choosing a subject matter for each work, Brennan is happy to use anything, including people, animals, landscapes and narratives, in his expression of rural life. “SurRuralism is my ongoing search for the heart of rural life. It is about getting to the absolute core of real life and place, represented in such a way that the emotional triggers are captured on the canvas or paper.” Brennan is launching his latest exhibition at the Artspace 101 gallery, at 1/101 Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba. It will be on display from April 9 to 30. The exhibition will be formally opened by Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson, at the off cial opening on Saturday April 12 from 3pm. All are welcome to come along and view his latest works and meet the artist. Brennan’s art is featured in collections throughout Australia and internationally, and

he says he is excited about the opportunity to bring his art to Mooloolaba. “It’s a real pleasure to be having a show in Mooloolaba. I live at the other end of the Coast so this is the f rst time for me to be showing there and I’m excited about having a new audience and meeting some new people.”

TED is a forum where some of the world’s most fascinating and innovative people share their ideas. It is a not-for-prof t organisation devoted to spreading great ideas to the masses. From business leaders to famous musicians and artists, TED is renowned across the globe. The TED app puts hundreds of mind-blowing and inspiring talks, most less than 20 minutes, at your f ngertips.

You’re probably starting to get the idea that wearable gadgets are increasing in popularity and wristbands are e among the most popular. While most computerised wristbands are limited to tracking exercise and sleep, Sony’s is taking it a step furtherr – it wants to track your entire life. The idea is to track your movements, vements, your photos, the music you listen to and even your social networking, k and d collate it all into an automated journal in the form of a proprietary app called LifeLog. The Smartband is a removable rectangular sensor that f ts within a rubber wristband. It talks to a user’s phone via Bluetooth and near f eld communication (NFC) and is fully waterproof. Sony has decided to forego the screen, meaning it weighs in at 21 grams. The battery will supposedly last about f ve days between charges. Australian availability has not been announced, but the Smartband should begin shipping globally within the next few weeks. AAP

New technology shown at the world’s biggest high-tech fair has the potential to change lives. The gadgetry ranged from timesaving to life-saving in the buzzing CeBIT halls in the northern German city of Hanover. Robots set the scene at the off cial opening of the f ve-day showcase of what’s new and uber-hot in the IT and high-tech world. RoboThespian, a life-sized humanoid robot, delivered an articulate welcome to guests, among them German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron. While pole-dancing robots ‘Lexy’ and ‘Tess’ were on hand for pure entertainment, two others, including one-year-old ‘Roboy’, which has bones and muscles, pave the way for possible future developments in medicine or even Moon exploration. The award for services and facilities was introduced this year, and venues are assessed on criteria such as revenue, facilities offered, total service and packages available. The Surf Club Mooloolaba has a modern purpose-built function room overlooking the beach, with an extensive range of event facilities

ominations for the 2014 Peter Doherty Awards for excellence in Science and Science Education are now open. The awards are an opportunity for science champions to be recognised for their skill, and are open to year 12 students, science teachers, support off cers, schools and science education partners who make outstanding contributions to science education in Queensland. The highly respected awards are now in their 11th year, and are named after Brisbane-born and educated Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Doherty, a mentor for the science community and 1997 Australian of the Year. Education, Training and Employment minister John-Paul Langbroek says the awards highlight the importance of science in our

schools, as well as its relevance to Queensland’s prosperity. “Skills in science, technology, economics and mathematics are critical to Queensland’s future, and will play an important role in building a strong four-pillar economy.” There are 27 awards on offer, worth a total of $109,000 over the f ve categories, and applicants may either nominate themselves or be nominated by another person. MPA has organised the 2.6-kilometre walk (along a shaded walking track) to raise awareness and reduce the impact of melanoma among people living on the Sunshine Coast. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, melanoma is set to become the third most diagnosed cancer among Sunshine Coast residents by the year 2020. Melanoma survivor Christine Bleijie says that for many Sunshine Coast residents, the outdoor lifestyle can increase the risk of sun exposure, which points to a need for increased knowledge about how to reduce risks. MPA is a non-prof t organisation offering a network of support for patients, their families, carers and friends, about melanoma prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment. CEO Tilly Ryan says because MPA receives no government funding, the Melanoma Awareness March provides a two-fold benef t of promoting melanoma awareness, while raising funds to continue providing services. hare markets have been driven by a chase for yield over much of the past two years, and returns were stronger from companies that paid high, fully franked dividends. The last week, however, has seen some volatility in the share markets, primarily inspired by a slump in the price of iron ore, which itself is the result of the view that growth in China is slowing. This view, combined with perceived investment and credit bubbles in China, has led to market uncertainty. As the anticipated end of quantitative easing draws closer, tailwinds for

markets appear to be fading. There are concerns about the state of Chinaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s shadow banking system and the f ow-on effect of defaults and bad loans. Will this cause another GFC? Most commentators agree that any Chinese banking problems would not spark another Lehman Brothersstyle collapse, although conf dence, no doubt, would be negatively affected. The reasoning behind this is that the Chinese banking system is closed, and any defaults will be dealt with by the central bank. Unlike the GFC, where loan problems had a f ow-on effect around the world, it is generally believed any Chinese issues would be localised. For the f rst time in many years, we started the year with shares relatively fully priced, and to make signif cant gains this year will require strong earnings growth. In this vein, reporting season was not disappointing, but it was not overly optimistic or stimulating either.

Midlife crisis is real NO ONE SAID TURNING 40 WAS EASY, BUT THE NEWS ISN’T ALL BAD.

ou’re pushing 40 and after years of caring for your kids you’ve now found yourself responsible for ageing parents. You’ve hit the glass ceiling and it’s become clear you’ll never be CEO. Welcome to the midlife crisis. The condition is real, according to an Australian-led study of tens of thousands of people in three countries. The study shows a steady downhill trajectory in wellbeing for most people from their late teens until their early 40s. But it also shows why some people say life begins at 40, with a steady improvement from then on. “We have identif ed a clear U-shape in human wellbeing,” says lead researcher Dr Terence Cheng from the University of Melbourne. The idea of a midlife crisis has been controversial, with academics f nding f aws in several previous studies. “But the jury’s now in,” says Cheng. “People really do experience midlife crises.” The study, which looks at decades of data from people in Australia, Germany and Britain, has been

published by the German-based Institute for the Study of Labor. “Human happiness hits the lowest point around the ages of 40 to 42,” says Cheng, who worked with colleagues from the University of Warwick and the London School of Economics. “What is interesting is the consistency of the results in all of the three countries we examined.” The study conf rms what psychologists already know, says University of Melbourne psychology Professor Nick Haslam. But it’s not typically a crisis. For most people there is predictable, gentle decline in life satisfaction and then an equally gradual improvement until the 60s and beyond. “It’s not like you turn 40 and you suddenly buy the sports car or, if you are a guy, look for the young blonde,” says Haslam. For some people, though, there can be a sense of crisis. “All of a sudden you can be caught looking after children and aged parents, people at both ends of the life course. You might be encountering a ceiling at work and realising that you are not

going to become CEO after all. Of course that could leave people feeling disappointed.” Other studies show the low point is the late 40s or even early 50s, says Haslam. After that things improve as children become more independent, people have more disposable income and free time and they make their peace with their limitations. “Beyond the stereotype of grumpy old men and women, this study conf rms people are getting happier and happier and more and more satisf ed.” AAP

s I write this, my wife is going topless. She’s been doing it all week. Topless up and down our street. She’s gone topless to the local shopping centre and topless to work. She’s even gone topless dropping our teenage son to school. This is not her normal behaviour. I suspect it’s because of the MercedesBenz E-Class Cabriolet that’s been in our driveway for the past few days. The drop-top version of the latest Benz executive range is bound to have its effect on you, I suppose. This is one of the world’s truly desirable machines – a slick German luxury coupe with the added allure of a fold-away roof.

The cosmetic and mechanical tweaks that have breathed fresh life into the E-Class range have made the Cabriolet version more desirable than ever – the slinky, swept-back double headlights; the sportier front end and the bagful of new driver aids have given a fresh dose of appeal to this already-appealing convertible coupe. The E-Class cabrio is a relative newcomer to the Benz line-up – prior to the current E-Class generation, Benz’s mid-size coupe and cabrio wore the CLK badge. And like the CLK, the E-Class comes with a relatively quickfolding cloth roof, rather than the all-steel version favoured by some other

members of this German family, including the baby SLK and its much more expensive sibling, the SL coupe. The E-Class isn’t cheap, mind you, with a starting price of $88,900 for the entry-level E200 cabrio, all the way up to the flagship E400 at $142,900. We were lucky to test the E400, a new name badge for this model range thanks to an all-new engine – a twinturbocharged, three-litre V6 that is quite a step up on Benz’s previous 3.5-litre. The new powerplant delivers substantially more urge, thanks to sequential turbo chargers boosting the engine’s output, and improved fuel efficiency. Its 245 kilowatts and 480Nm

of torque will whisk the cabrio to the speed limit in a tick over f ve seconds, yet needs only 7.7L/100km on average. It’s a highly impressive engine – the huge torque outputs giving it an almost bottomless pit of thrust and yet delivered in a linear, creamy fashion. For the moment, at least, the E400 represents the f agship level of Benz’s executive sedan range and its coupecabrio variants, although some V8 versions can’t be too far away. Yet so impressive is the E400’s powerplant it raises the question as to why you’d bother spending the additional cash for a V8 version of the E-Class. Suff ce to say there will be plenty of other Benz models bearing the 400 badge – and featuring this cracking new engine – in the months ahead. Like its sedan sibling, the E-Class cabrio is something of a technological tour-de-force. There are a total of 11 all-new driver assistance systems on this model, collectively called ‘intelligent drive’. The system is built around two cameras, mounted near the rear-view mirror, which allow the E-Class to ‘see’ where it is going. An Attention Assist device

monitors the driver’s attentiveness, while active parking assist and a 360-degree ‘bird’s eye’ virtual camera help ensure minor bumps and scrapes are avoided. The car will dim its own headlights and reduce the cone of light to avoid dazzling oncoming traff c; it will also read traff c signs and convey those messages to the driver. For instance, it will tell you when it senses you are exceeding the speed limit. Ingenious. One of our favourites was the Surround View camera system, which projects onto the colour display screen not only the view from the rear of the car, but also from the front and corners. Somehow it blends all these images together to give you a wide-angle view of any obstacles as you pull in and out of parking spots. The E-Class’s folding roof is relatively fuss-free and the glass rear window is a cut above the old plastic or Perspex versions previously seen in this style of roof. The E-Class also uses a patented Aircap system, effectively a little pop-up wind def ector which sits atop the windscreen frame to further shield the cabin occupants

from the buffeting which inevitably is part and parcel of open-air driving. The def ector automatically retracts when the car slows, to restore the car, as Benz says, to “its purest and most alluring”. Our test machine came with a sublime Harmon Kardon sound system that included speakers dotted everywhere throughout the cabin. Even with the roof down and the engine roaring, it’s possible to enjoy your favourite tunes without too much compromise. As good as it is, the E-Class is not perfect. It is susceptible to the

shuddering so common to topless machines when they encounter uneven surfaces without a f xed roof to stiffen the chassis. In the Benz it’s mild but still noticeable. Rear-seat legroom is reasonable but not fabulous for what is essentially a full-sized car. But those in the front are further pampered by Benz’s clever AirScarf system, which pipes warm air onto the occupants’ neck when the roof is down, regardless of the temperature. Combine that with the heated leather seats and you could go topless just about any time of the year. Just don’t tell my wife.

PEUGEOT PICKS UP CAR OF THE YEAR

eugeot’s 308 picked up the Car of the Year award, a boost for the troubled car company that recently had to be rescued by the French state and China’s Dongfeng. A panel of European car journalists chose the Peugeot 308 hatchback over a handful of other f nalists including Tesla’s Model S, a luxury American electric car, on the eve of the opening of the Geneva International Motor Show. “We talked a lot about Peugeot during these last months, we talked a lot about many, many things but not about cars,” says Maxime Picat, head of the Peugeot brand at PSA Peugeot Citroën. “I’m really pleased to speak about cars and the wonderful new 308.” The cash-starved French auto maker last month won a new lease of life by handing over part control to the French state and China’s state-owned car company Dongfeng. Peugeot, Europe’s second-largest manufacturer after Volkswagen, was weakened considerably by its

heavy dependence on the slumping European auto market and hopes its tie-up with Dongfeng will lead to higher sales in China, the world’s top car market. The Car of the Year award should also lead to an acceleration in sales for the 308, according to a car analyst. “This could lead to an increase in sales of 20 per cent,” says Bertrand Rakoto at D3 Intelligence. Peugeot has already received 55,000 orders for the model, which was launched at the end of last year. AAP

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson says a discussion paper is now open for feedback and focuses on options to reduce or simplify limousine regulations, making it more affordable for passengers. “A number of options in the discussion paper will be open for feedback including value of vehicles, age limits and wheelbase requirements for limousines,” Emerson says. “If these requirements are changed they could result in the limo industry becoming more affordable for Queenslanders and having a greater variety of vehicles on offer. “Factors such as the high dollar and competition in the motor industry impact the criteria that determines which vehicles can be used as luxury vehicles to provide limousine services. Given these pressures we feel it is time to open up discussion about the existing rules and assess whether they are still relevant in today’s marketplace.” Emerson says the discussion paper is a starting point to gather feedback about the effectiveness of current rules and to understand public and industry opinion about the effect any changes would have. The paper will be available at tmr.qld.gov.au with feedback open until Monday May 12.

SURF REPORT with MWPâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s man in the water

Looks like everyone came out to play last weekend with waves reported everywhere. The light onshore winds are making some things a little wonky, but given the drought we have had this is more than acceptable. Looks like some swell is hanging in there but with NE and ESE winds. I know, I know!! The next ASP event is set to start in Margaret River, Western Australia. This is the only place I have ever prayed to God. It went like this, â&#x20AC;&#x153;God, let me up, let me up, I need air.â&#x20AC;? Who would have thought, he let me up! Just in time to see another 15-footer crack on my head. My brand-new Al Byrne-shaped 7â&#x20AC;&#x2122;4 was in splinters. It appears the same has just happened to Al Hing from Beachbeat at Sunset this week. Well, enjoy what you can that is on offer. Hopefully we will have an epic winter coming !

FISHING REPORT with Wayne Nilsson from Maroochydore Fishing World

ESTUARY: The Maroochy bar area will be returning tailor right on dusk with pillies best, and itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s worth tossing a shiny chrome slug at dawn for chopper tailor. Drifting over the yabby banks and bouncing plastic lures work well for f athead and whiting. Catch jacks and mud crabs in the mangroves up in Eudlo and Petrie creeks. SURF: Bream are moving in close to Alex Headland with mullet f llet the go! Look for sand whiting in the last breaker along Maroochy and Alex beaches. Tailor and trevally are taking â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;poppersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; at Pincushion and the Mooloolaba rivermouth. OFFSHORE: The close-in reefs and almost any rocky outcrop from Point Cartwright to Coolum are returning sweetlip, parrot and mackeral with mullet f llet and pillies best. Finding bait schools is the key to f nding tuna and billf sh with the grounds from Wide Caloundra to Noosa all prime places to start. FRESHWATER: Lake Macdonald will be returning bass and cod on medium divers trolled along the weed line in front of the scoutâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s camp. Somerset is f ring for bass, golden and silver perch on live shrimps and lures trolled at about three metres.
