Serving sizes – For instance, serving sizes are generally smaller in home-brand pizza, canned legumes, grains, biscuits and ready meals. In fact, edible oil is the only type of food where serving size is greater for home-brand foods.

Other nutrients – For energy and fat intake, again it seems there are inconsistent differences between home-brand foods compared to branded foods.
How much can I save? – Home-brand products can be up to 40 per cent cheaper

What are home-brand foods? – Homebrand foods have various names. You might hear them called supermarket own-brand foods, private label, in-house brands, store brands, or retailer brands.
AGENDA
These are foods made specifically for a supermarket (you cannot buy them at a competing store). They are advertised as low-priced alternatives to more expensive items.Home-brand foods are widely available in Australia and other countries, making up to 30 per cent of what you can buy at a Somesupermarket.peopleonce viewed these as inferior products. But their nutrient content, and wide availability in supermarkets, may play a role in boosting population health. Some evidence shows home-brand foods increase availability and accessibility to more affordable food options, and contribute to improving food safety standards.
marketing and packaging. This means we cannot assume lower prices mean cheaper or inferior ingredients.
But sometimes cheaper ingredients are used in higher concentrations in home-brand products. For example, home-brand pre-made pasta sauces may have less of the vegetable ingredients, and greater amounts of sugar, sodium (salt), and additives (such as stabilisers, colours and flavours). This may change the quality and taste.
Salt – Sodium levels of home-brand breakfast cereals, cheese and bread are higher than branded products. But sodium levels of cooking sauces, frozen potato products (such as oven-baked fries) and biscuits are lower in homebrand foods.
Here’s what we know about the nutrients they contain compared with the more expensive named brands.
Home-brand groceries. Do stacktheyup?
cost of groceries in Australia has sky-rocketed this year. So, people may be tempted to switch to home-brand foods to save on their weekly food bill.

Why are they cheaper? – Cheaper prices associated with home-brand products are possible due to lower costs associated with research and development,
In fact, supermarkets can influence the ingredients and processing of home-brand foods by benchmarking against named brands.
Before a home-brand product is made, stores will also specify to manufacturers what it should cost to consumers.
This means not having to clean or reprogram equipment between making the different products. It also means most home-brand products are very similar to branded products, aside from the packaging. However, for mixed foods, such as breakfast cereals and pre-made sauces, the manufacturer may change the ingredients, such as using cheaper or fewer ingredients, to help reduce costs.
But are they healthy? – For simple, unprocessed products such as milk, eggs and pasta there is virtually no difference in nutritional quality between homebrand and named brand foods. There is very little the manufacturers can do to modify ingredients to reduce costs.
Very few studies have explored how home-brand products may differ in nutritionalOverall, profile.serving size, sodium and other nutrients appear similar across home-brand and named brand food. But there are some differences with certain food types.
Manufacturers often choose to use the same ingredients and processes as name-brand products to reduce costs through economies of scale.
Health star ratings – On a related note, unhealthy home-brand products – such as juices, meat pies and muesli bars – are more likely to include a health star rating, compared to nutritious foods. This may incorrectly imply they are a healthy choice. This means no matter which brand you choose, remember to check the food label to make sure you are getting the quality of food you like for the price you are comfortable with.

So yes, home-brand products can make a real difference to the total cost of However, groceries.someproducts have bigger cost savings than others, as we show below. Most labels on supermarket shelves show the cost per 100g (or equivalent) for an item, which can help shoppers choose the most cost-effective option, especially useful when items are on sale.
How about sugar? – Unfortunately, the studies didn’t look at this. In fact, overall, Australian home-brand products are not consistently nutritionally different to branded products.

Scientists have revealed that the sea, and its seemingly pristine water, contains almost 200,000 different kinds of viruses. While this may sound scary, Matthew Sullivan, a microbiologist at The Ohio State University, told CNN, “Having that road map of what viruses exist helps us do a lot of the things we’d be interested in to better understand the ocean.”

The humble fax machine was essentially a modern version of the telegram. For many years it allowed people and businesses to transmit scanned documents from one phone number to another. The recipient would receive a printed document via their machine. This was all done by a transmission of audio frequency tones that were deciphered at the other end. Fax machines have largely been rendered obsolete by the invention of email and advancements in computing technologies.

The grief runs deep. After a 70-year reign, the Queen’s death marks the end of an era; a farewell to the stoic woman who was quietly present in our lives. As her grandson, the newly anointed Prince of Wales, wrote in a moving statement, she provided an “example of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but always relevant to us all”.
Monday, September 12: The Queen’s body was taken by procession to Edinburgh’s St Giles’ Cathedral.
Australian Monarchist League National spokesman, and Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie, echoed the mayor’s sentiments. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the outpouring of emotions in Australia following the death of Queen Elizabeth II as a period of grieving and gratefulness for her service. He said plans for a national day of mourning on September 22 were appropriate for the country to come together. “[The Queen] was someone who didn’t just go to Sydney and Melbourne. She went to regional communities, remote communities and had an engagement with them,” he said.

THE DAY I MET THE QUEEN WORDS: Shirley Sinclair
The Queen did so much more than pass by in the lives of Australians and millions of other people around the globe.
When the Queen finally appeared, all eyes were upon her and at last we could see what all the fuss was about.
Such a simple gesture but one that meant the world to me and one I hold dear in these sad days following her death.
But the Queen was the Queen.
(Queen Elizabeth II) aged five, arriving at the 16th century church at Balcombe, Sussex, for the wedding of Lady May Cambridge and Captain Henry Abel Smith.
“I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust” - Queen Elizabeth at her coronation, 1953
This was no ordinary mother. The way she held herself, the genuine interest on her face, her dignity and grace, her strength and sparkle – you couldn’t help but be in awe.
Queen Elizabeth II’s swansong included a visit to Brisbane, meeting victims of the previous summer’s disastrous floods. She finished her tour at a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth, before being farewelled by a crowd of nearly 100,000.
1970, March 30-May 3
The royals returned to Queensland to celebrate the bicentenary of Captain Cook’s landing in Australia. The Queen unveiled a memorial in Cooktown before heading bush to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base at Mt Isa. The “royal walkabout” was introduced during this tour, allowing the couple to depart from protocol and mingle with ordinary people.
The Queen had been on the throne for 50 years when she attended a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) on the Sunshine Coast in 2002. Thousands lined the streets to welcome Her Majesty to the region. The event, also attended by then Prime Minster John Howard, was held at what was then known as the Hyatt Coolum.
“Whatever the future may bring, my lasting respect and deep affection for Australia and Australians everywhere will remain as strong as ever.”
When the Queen came to Coolum
Queen Elizabeth II was the first reigning monarch to visit Australia. Together with The Duke of Edinburgh, she visited 57 cities and towns, including Cairns, Mackay and Brisbane. “I am proud indeed to be at the head of a nation that has achieved so much,” the Queen said.

The Queen marked Canberra’s Jubilee celebrations with a tour of Australia. In Queensland she visited the Gold Coast and Brisbane. She visited the Red Centre and addressed remote communities via the Royal Flying Doctor Service radio network. The Queen also knighted Prime Minister Robert Menzies.

Now through her grief she is hoping to shine an important light on child loss with a simple but meaningful ‘rainbow bench’ at Happy Valley.
RAINBOW BENCH TO HELP GRIEVING PARENTS
While often a taboo subject, miscarriage and child loss are slowly generating more awareness in Australia and the term ‘rainbow baby’ has become common to describe a successful pregnancy after a loss.
Ms McNamara says the community support had been overwhelming for the rainbow bench and hopes for a positive outcome where similar benches can be installed across the entire region.
McNamara will never have the opportunity to meet her daughter Rosie, or the eight other children she has lost during pregnancies.
But in an unexpected roadblock, when Ms McNamara applied to Sunshine Coast Council to install the selffunded bench, the application was refused.
Sian
Ms McNamara claims the Council’s response was that “child loss isn’t an issue of social significance to the Sunshine Coast community”.
However, a council spokesperson confirmed the request was originally rejected as it was submitted as a commemorative memorial enquiry, and staff were looking at alternate solutions.
According to Red Nose Australia, every year around 110,000 Australians have a miscarriage. Further to this
October also marks International Pregnancy and Infant Loss awareness month and Ms McNamara hopes the rainbow bench would be a timely reminder to not silence the issue. Ms McNamara endured a distressing miscarriage in May this year, losing her daughter Rosie not long after the first trimester.
She and her husband Cam have a seven-year-old son together but across the years have sadly experienced eight miscarriages.Frompersonal experience Ms McNamara says there is a lack of support for families who experience child loss and a culture of “get up and keep going” after a tragic event unfolds. She says the bench would help fill a void of somewhere to grieve, reflect or connect with people with shared experiences.
A council spokesperson has advised staff are looking at alternate“Sunshinesolutions.Coast Council offers its sincere sympathies to the McNamara family for their loss,” the spokesperson says.“The initial request to install a rainbow bench at Happy Valley came to the Community Land Permits team as a Commemorative Memorial enquiry.

While there are more than 200 forms of dwarfism and skeletal dysplasia, the most common is achondroplasia, which is a genetic disorder that results in disproportionate short arms and legs.
ABOUT DWARFISM
SMALL IN STATURE BUT BIG ON LIVING LARGE
Ms McKennon says that regardless of how tall Keira will grow, she has a larger-than-life personality.
“I think these sorts of events for something so rare are a great opportunity for a talking point to discuss dwarfism and people with difference in our community.”
The condition is often caused when a gene mutates during pregnancy. About 80 per cent of people born with achondroplasia do not have a family history of the condition. For parents with a form of dwarfism who have a child, the odds are much greater that their child will have a condition of dwarfism as well. Most people with dwarfism live long, fulfilling lives and go to school and work, drive cars and have children. One of the biggest challenges for people with short stature is feeling accepted and integrated into everyday society.

The Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) IS celebrating 100 years in 2022, and the Caloundra branch is gearing up for a busy period of festivities. Prior to a centenary event on November 12, the branch is holding a community-wide competition where children and adults can test their artistic talents to create a poster of the bygone era or write an essay on the changes in society over the past 100 years.
It’s a little-known fact that the Country Women’s Association is responsible for the white side lines on our roads. And members provided childcare and housekeeping services to women and their families up until the 1970s.
The winner will be announced at the

I am pleased with the progress being made in division two on several road and safety improvement projects.
Research commissioned by Stayz supports this, revealing that Queensland is in fact the third-most pet-friendly holiday destination in Australia, and the Sunshine Coast the No.1 destination for Aussie dog owners within it.
So, naturally, the Sunshine Coast tourism industry is in the box seat to capitalise on the growing trend of pet travel with pet-friendly accommodation options, dog cafes, leash-free parks and beaches, as well as other pooch-approved activities.
All in all, the Sunshine Coast sure is the pawfect holiday destination for those travelling with their four-legged friends.
I also encourage you to read about our community’s aspirations for the Sunshine Coast’s new planning scheme on the council’s website. More than 8000 people had their say on proposed planning directions and this feedback is being used to help inform drafting of the new planning scheme. Further community comment will be invited in the next stage of consultation.

I’d also like to thank those who recently expressed interest in the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade stakeholder interest group (SIG). The road upgrade and extension is being delivered between Omrah Avenue and Nicklin Way, creating a new access into the Caloundra CBD and reducing delays at the Caloundra Road/ Nicklin Way roundabout. The SIG will further enable community involvement and provide an opportunity for questions or issues to be addressed by the project team. Works began last month on improvements to traffic flow and safety at the busy Queen and Bower streets’ intersection in Caloundra. The new signalised pedestrian crossing is designed to improve the safety of all pedestrians and cyclists. Thanks to new dedicated turning lanes, traffic congestion at school drop-off and pick-up times should be relieved.

But it doesn’t stop there: we even have dog events. The Noosa Festival of Surfing in March features the Surfing Dog Spectacular and workshop for boardriders and dogs. Honestly, I can’t think of anything cooler that teaching your dog to surf on its holiday to the Sunshine Coast.
In fact, the research tells us that two million households are planning a holiday with their dog this year. Quite understandable, really, given the huge boom in pet ownership we have seen over the pandemic. So,doesthe family pooch really influence where people travel? If your household is like mine, the dog is indeed a valued member of the family and gets a say in the family vacation. And with most dog owners preferring to take their pooch on a beach holiday, it makes the Sunshine Coast a logical choice for those wanting to travel with their furry friend in tow.
Librans love things to run smoothly, but there’s unpredictable planetary energy about this week. Mercury is reversing through your sign, so life is likely to veer off in an unexpected direction – which could be wonderful or stressful, depending on the circumstances.
Are you stuck in a personal rut? This week’s stars shake up your comfort zone… which could make you feel confused and uncomfortable! Try to view any upset positively, as it forces you to view a current situation from a totally different perspective.

This week’s restless stars boost your bohemian side and your adventurous nature. But, if you are too recklessly impulsive (especially on Monday and Tuesday), then you could find yourself involved in an argument, accident, financial fiasco or friendship drama.
It’s going to be a confusing week, so try to keep your crab cool. Avoid spreading unsubstantiated gossip and blurting out things that you’ll later regret. Take the time to check the facts thoroughly. The more discreet and diplomatic you are, the better the week will be.

Tuesday looks lively, as the Venus/ Uranus link propels you into an exciting new world of possibilities. You’re pursuing a challenging personal project, but a partnership or friendship requires more clarity. Avoiding complex issues won’t make them magically disappear. (6)
This week, Mercury is reversing through your relationship zone, so communicating with your sweetheart, boss or best friend could be problematic. Don’t accept information at face value and don’t believe everything you hear. Take the time to fact check.

Since the 1990s, Peter Hudson has explored aspects of the natural world through painting and drawing. The landscape has been a constant for Mr Hudson, particularly the Glass House Mountains and hinterland around Maleny where he resides. The moon, ocean, fish, birds and snakes also reoccur in his paintings, analogies for complex systems and relationships in nature. In 1998, the artist made the first of many trips to the Aboriginal communities of Daguragu and Kalkarindji in Gurindji Country, Northern Territory. So began a decades-long association with the Gurindji people that transformed Mr Hudson’s understanding of nature and spirituality.

On reflection I could have handled the conversation I had with this bloke better. He was telling me he was great mates with this guy that we knew. He was telling me how successful and popular this guy was, and then proceeded to ask my opinion of the mutual acquaintance.
Like? Well I don’t really like myself. Trust? I certainly can’t trust myself to keep my mouth shut.

someone he knew. It was someone I had only met briefly, and I was horrified to learn I had upset this person.
Following an honest conversation with a friend, Ashley Robinson comes to the realisation that he shares similarities with one of his TV faves.
a mad Seinfeld fan. I reckon I have watched every episode at least 30 times, which infuriates old mate that I live with as she thinks it’s dribble.
Their approach is over the top by any measure – a nest that is so far up a tree it is blurry by sight leads to claw-and-beak attacks on all on the ground within coo-ee. It is as irrational as it is dangerous. Bird specialists say that female magpies don’t swoop and it is only one in 10 males that do. If that is so, the population must be out of control and a big portion of maggie males must be seriously highly strung.
Take me for instance.
I had not considered that I was possibly talking to the captain of his fan club and, although I had good reasons for my opinion, I should have kept it to myself.
Cosmo Kramer kicked in and I said, “Yeah I like him. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him, but he is okay”.
This character (who basically plays a role about nothing) and I have one major similarity, and it’s not our looks. Old mate wishes I looked like him, but sadly that’s not the case. Kramer is more than six-foot tall with a full head of hair and is quite lean, probably the polar opposite to me.
The opinions expressed are those of the authors. These are not the views of My Weekly Preview publishers.

– and birds reign supreme. It is a season when the feathered ones swoop, caw and call with such gusto that it feels as if they are intent on making human lives uncomfortable. Brush turkeys are on the mate, with the males randomly haring across roads at inopportune moments in pursuit of some good-looking gal. Wooing is flashy and lairy in turkey land. Schmoozing also leads to posturing and scrapping, with humans caught in the crossfire, scrambling to avoid birdThebunfights.turkeys will shortly begin their annual attack on our gardens, scratching out and re-ordering, removing vegetation and taking up pathways to build their voluminous mounds to harbour the result of the current wooing. And there are so many mounds and so many eggs.
The same goes for magpies, those smarty-pants birds with sharp eyes and even sharper protective instincts. Turkeys might cause chaos on the ground, but maggies rule the skies.
Our similarities are our personalities – brutal, opinionated honesty. If someone gets a bad haircut and asks Cosmo what he thinks of it he tells them the truth.

As the years roll on, the turkey numbers rise. For a species that is meant to be solitary, they now crowd out the bushland and foreshore, perfecting the art of tripping up runners and ripping up yards. Animal lovers will sagely say that we are in their territory, that we must live around the wild
My standard response is that it is about people and their insecurities, which is something I deal with on a daily basis.
Don’t get me wrong: I love the wildness of native animals. But there comes a time where there needs to be a bit of a balancing up of rights to restore harmony. The law says native species rule and humans drool. It is illegal for an unlicensed person to move, injure or interfere with native wildlife. Fines of more than $430,000 or jail for up to two years uses a sledge hammer to crack that nut. I reckon the lofty status of all things avian is, frankly, for the birds. SCHMOOZING&

As feathered fiends reign supreme this spring, Jane Stephens says it’s time harmony is restored between humans and these ‘smarty-pants’ birds.
It raised another interesting point for me to ponder: I like plenty of people I don’t trust. I just make sure I don’t do business with them. If on occasion I do, I double-check everything. Like and trust are so different – a notion that is clear to me, but obviously not to some people.
I came to this realisation when a good mate of mine told me that I had offended
Well until recently, that is what I always believed to be the reason behind why I loved watching the show – it is aboutThenpeople.theother day I had a light-bulb moment and realised there may be something else that attracts me to Seinfeld – Cosmo Kramer.

Many are predicting an increase in auction numbers as buyers and sellers navigate the up and down movement of the market.
Auction - In a real estate auction, potential purchasers assemble to make public bids on properties that are being sold in a public setting. When the hammer drops, the property will be sold to the highest bidder if the reserve price set by the seller is met or
if the seller is satisfied with the price. Since there is no cooling-off period, contracts will be signed, deposits will be paid, and the buyer will then be obligated to purchase the property.

A level of urgency is added to an auction by the fact that it takes place on a given date and time. It can also have the effect of fostering competition by bringing all potential purchasers together at once, as we have seen.
Private Treaty - When a property is listed for sale with an asking price, a private treaty or private transaction takes place. The agent receives a proposal from potential purchasers, who then present it to the seller. To seal the deal as closely as feasible to the seller’s asking price, the agent will conduct one-on-one negotiations with each prospective bidder. Private treaty sales traditionally allow the seller greater control; they can take their time to review offers and negotiate until they are satisfied to make the deal. The finest results are obtained employing this strategy of sale in many areas throughout Australia.
Before proposing the optimal mode of sale for your property, they will take the following factors into account:

During menopause, the oestrogen hormone is depleted, and this affects the meibomian and lacrimal gland secretions in your eyelids. Meibomian glands produce essential oils for the tears and the reduction in these oils result in increased tear evaporation and drier eyes.

MENOPAUSE AND DRY EYES
Dry eyes are caused by problems with tears. Everyone has a tear film that covers and lubricates their eyes. This tear film is made up of water, oil and mucus. When your eyes don’t produce enough or poor-quality tears, or the tears evaporate quickly, dry eye occurs. Postmenopausal women are particularly prone to dry eyes.
When the glands are affected, the eyelids can become inflamed and reduce tear quality and production.

If passed, it would also put an end to no-grounds evictions, introduce minimum standards for rental properties and give tenants rights to make minor improvements to the home.

Ms Mercorella acknowledges rents have risen in the past two years due to “extraordinary economic conditions”. But she says the Greens have conveniently ignored the realities of the past decade for property owners, which has seen rents remain “relatively flat”.
“However, if you remove the past two extraordinary years and look at 2012-2020, this is a 2.7 per cent per annum growth rate, which is virtually flat and would mean that investors were making a minimal return,” Ms Mercorella says. “This analysis shows that investors on the Sunshine Coast have had a long stretch of making virtually no returns from their investments, and the past two years have given them an opportunity to meet the market.”
The Greens say Australia has seen the biggest rent increases in 14 years, putting millions of Australians into severe rentals stress and exacerbating regional labour shortages because workers are being priced out of local rental markets. The REIQ has hit back, claiming the Greens’ bill idea is based on ideology with limited appreciation of economic, commercial or practical reality.
Mr Chandler-Mather argues that the Victorian government froze rents in the pandemic and “there’s no reason why we can’t do it

Well not much in the way of surf at present so maybe some long walks along the beach where you could help by picking up washed up rubbish. Help save the turtles. Reminds me of a story when I walked off the beach to bin some rubbish and noticed someone had left a single rubber thong. I grumbled and picked it up and placed in the bin. Then as I walked backed to the beach I saw the other one! Man, that guy would have been confused. I left it to add to the humour.
