INTRODUCING

The popular and picturesque beachside town of Caloundra has received a refreshing new look, thanks to a passionate team of business and community groups.

After a year of consultation and extensive research, Caloundra now has a vibrant and welcoming new brand to help promote the town as the ideal place to live, work and play.

New street banners are flying from the poles along Bulcock Street with a contemporary colour palette emphasising a retro-flavour inspired by the sun, sea and nature.

An impressive mural-like artwork, implemented by Caloundra local artist Steven Bordonaro, has brought the exterior of council’s customer service centre at 77 Bulcock Street to life with an image of iconic Bulcock Beach.

The new brand embraces the use of a winky face and ‘un’ words to capture many of Caloundra’s “unique, fun, unforgettable and stunning” qualities, including its pristine beaches and friendly locals.

Sunshine Coast division two councillor Terry Landsberg says the fresh and friendly new brand ignites pride and connection into the town.

“A lot of love and labour has gone into developing a brand strategy which redefines Caloundra’s unique personality and builds on our town’s proud history,” Cr Landsberg says.

“It was also important to unify the brand with the exciting work underway as part of the Caloundra

Centre Master Plan and precinct-based projects such as the Destination Centre and Community and Creative Hub.

“This brand has been created for the community, by the community and was a key activation project of the Downtown Caloundra Taskforce which is made up of local business and community members.”

Local business owner and Caloundra ambassador Kim McCosker says it is a privilege to be involved in the rebranding and be part of a united group of Caloundra champions.

“I’m delighted to see Caloundra’s new personality come to life as positive, happy, human and unpretentious,” Ms McCosker says.

“The success of the new brand relies on the uptake by our businesses, community and passionate locals.

“I encourage everyone to adopt and promote

the new look with pride and passion, because if we’re proud of it, then so will our grandchildren and the generations to come.”

Caloundra Chamber of Commerce CEO Brady Sullivan says the rebrand is timely with Caloundra recently crowned as Queensland’s Top Tourism Town for 2023 in the Tourism Industry Council’s Awards.

“Caloundra is growing… we have the fastest growing population on the Sunshine Coast and the fastest-growing number of businesses,” Mr Sullivan

says. “So, it is time Caloundra had a brand that represents it’s fresh personality and promotes the town as the ideal place to live, work and play.”

A new state-of-the-art district library and vibrant creative community hub will soon create a centrepiece for locals to enjoy, help lift investment confidence and establish Caloundra as a business and cultural community heart. Visit the revamped website at caloundra.com.au.

What do you love about

As ambassadors for Caloundra, here’s what a few residents who live and work in the town have to say about their slice of paradise.

“Living and working in Caloundra is like a dose of a natural vitamin. You just go, ‘how lucky am I’?”

Kim McCosker – 4 Ingredients

“When we moved from overseas, we moved straight away to Kings Beach. When we first came on holidays, we loved the beaches and loved the people – the people are so kind.”

Ellie Degraeve – Go For Zero

“I’ve been here for a long time and it’s quite an embracing community that we have here, what Caloundra offers. Being here a long time, you always gravitate back if you go somewhere – it’s a great place to live.”

– local artist

Family business succession planning: Start preparing for the future

Accountants and Auditors who are 100% committed to Growing Business, Growing People. We build genuine and long lasting relationships with our clients, and help them to #ImagineBetter. Through our unique and holistic approach to Accounting, we help our clients turn their business and personal goals into a reality.

Our Team are experienced Advisors who can assist with everything from Start-ups, Strategic Planning, Profit Improvement, KPI Monitoring, Cashflows, Tax and Compliance as well as Succession Planning. We specialise in identifying the underlying causes of poor profit performance, and peel back inefficiencies undermining profitability, which is absolutely necessary to enable business growth.

Succession planning is vital for all business owners, but particularly family business owners.

• Private and family businesses contribute >$600billion to Australia’s GDP = >1/3

• 70% of private & family businesses planning to sell or pass on their business

• “The scale of this once in a lifetime private & family business transition is critical to Australia’s economic prosperity”

• Only 30% have succession plans in place

Here are a few quick tips to consider when starting your succession planning:

• Commence succession planning early in the life of the business. Either sit down with the team to plan for the what-ifs or incorporate an outside party to have another opinion as to how it will work both financially and legally.

• Understand the overall strategic plan of the business

What is the reality of our NOW?

• Governance policies

• Business systems & processes

• Profitability and Cashflow

• Growth opportunities

• Leverage

• Structuring

• Asset holdings – Income + Passive Income

• Current Business Value

• Management structure & skills

Where do we want to be in the future?

• What are our succession options?

• What is the impact of these options?

• What might retirement look like?

• What role do you want to continue to play in the business?

• What is your desired valuation/sales price?

HOW do we get there?

• Action

• Milestones, timing & responsibility

• Financial & Operational KPI’s

• Determine the key roles needed for the future and who will ‘fit’ with your business going forward.

• Select a successor as early as possible in the succession planning process and then appropriately train, develop and introduce them to other key business people.

• Determine the importance of family involvement in the leadership and ownership of the business.

• In addition to the successor, organise a backup of talented people who can evolve through training and involvement in the business.

• Set retirement dates for owners/founders

• Communicate your succession plan

Consider all of the financial and tax implications of your succession plan.

This should be an ongoing chat with your accountant to make sure you are across all aspects of your business and how changes can affect your plan.

Soak up the beauty of the Caloundra region by taking the scenic coastal walk. Take on the entire 25-kilometre stretch that starts from Golden Beach in the south or enjoy strolling along sections of the walk at a leisurely pace. Keep an eye out for bird life and dolphins in Pumicestone Passage.

TAKE A DIP AT THE KING OF BEACHES

Kings Beach has a festive atmosphere year-round, so whenever you visit, you’ll be assured of good vibes in the sunshine. With an oceanfront saltwater swimming pool and a gentle beach break, Kings Beach is a relaxing spot. Cafes, restaurants and markets are all within a few minutes’ walk from the beach.

SPEND THE DAY AT MOFFAT BEACH

Moffat Beach bursts to life each morning with the sound of fresh wax gripping the bodies of beaten-up longboards. Locals smile to one another between sips of specialty coffee and dogs run up and down the headland unhindered. This vibrant little strip of alfresco cafes and restaurants fronts the famous right-hand point break at Moffat Beach Headland – home of Australia’s longest running surf competition the Pa & Ma Bendall.

TAKE A STREET ART STROLL

The bright and bold murals around Caloundra capture the area’s cultural identity and history. There are quirky and colourful representations of iconic locations, activities and events, such as the heritage lighthouses, Ma and Pa Bendall and Pumicestone Passage.

EXPLORE CURRIMUNDI LAKE TRAILS

Lake Currimundi is a stretch of calm water which runs into the ocean at Currimundi surf beach. There is an abundance of picturesque walking tracks surrounding the lake, so lace up your walking shoes, slip, slop slap, and tackle one of the many trails.

BUSINESSES WE LOVE OUR

There is nowhere quite like Caloundra with its quaint yet vibrant CBD. With its beachside location, array of cafes and restaurants, and proactive business community, it is no wonder this family-friendly town continues to attract new and exciting offerings for shoppers.

THE WALKWAY DELI & CAFE

Owners Joanne and Andrew have been in Australia for 15 years, initially living in Adelaide for five years, moving to Brisbane for another five, and then settling at Moffat Beach on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Their dream has always been to open a “place” – some kind of cafe, deli or bar. Now, they are excited to announce they have realised their dream and have opened The Walkway Café and Deli in Caloundra. “We have worked and travelled throughout Europe and during that time we experienced amazing foods, drinks and cultures,” the pair says. “These experiences have driven our passion for quality – quality produce, quality drinks, quality music and above all quality customer service. Ultimately what we always wanted was to create a place and an atmosphere that we would like to spend time in. We have taken the best bits from everything we have experienced and put it into The Walkway.” Be sure to stop by, say hi and enjoy breakfast, lunch or a coffee.

FRIENDS OF THE GALLERY

There is something magical about stepping into the world of an artist. They have the ability to transport the viewer to far away places, stir up memories, make you feel safe and bring a touch of joy to the moment. Artist Judith Rose will be part of a joint exhibition with artist Jo Murray at the Talented Friends Gallery from July 20 through to August 31. Judith has been an artist for more than 20 years and this exhibition is part of a body of work she is currently completing. The images range from Kings Beach, Sunshine Coast, Noosa Shire, Hamilton Island and some from moments in Fiji. All seem to imbue a feeling of memory with the nostalgic feeling of a 1970s polaroid, mixed with a 1950s poster. Safe, colourful, fun, a youthful yesteryear. The Eclectic, Exciting, Enigmatic & Seeds for the Soul exhibition will open on July 20, 5.30pm to 7pm.

SUB TROPIC STUDIO: Dying for a culture injection? Well, you can now get your art fix at an abandoned '80s bus terminal in Caloundra. Sub Tropic Studio is the Sunshine Coast’s latest creative space and has been designed as a testing ground for contemporary art, photography, ideas and design. Created by Sunshine Coast Council and Sunshine Coast Creative Alliance, the concept sees a culmination of artist studios, an epic light-box gallery made in collaboration with Newstead Studio, a co-working space, workshops, gigs and exhibitions – all popping up in the old Caloundra Transit Centre.

SEAVIEW GALLERY: Seaview Artists Gallery is the longest-running, artist-run gallery on the Sunshine Coast – perhaps even in the whole of Queensland. Established in the mid-1990s, Seaview Artists Gallery is ideally placed just 100 metres from the Moffat Beach surf and nestled amongst fine restaurants and other retail shops. The gallery regularly refreshes itself by the introduction of new talent, ensuring that the work on display is never stale. Over the years the gallery has built a reputation as one of the ‘must visit’ places for visitors from interstate and overseas, as well as being a regular drop-in centre for local art lovers. These visitors return again and again, impressed by the high standard, variety, modest prices and the helpful artists who tend the gallery on a daily basis.

A few words from Kim

Recently Gaile Lillico (secretary of the CBA) and I embarked on a discovery stroll of Caloundra’s backstreets and laneways. On it, we encountered art and murals we never even knew existed!

It was incredible, so I snapped and posted and was surprised by how many locals also asked where they were.

By supporting these artists, you not only bring their dreams to life but also contribute to the flourishing arts scene, fostering a vibrant and inclusive culture for all. As a result, the CBA decided we’d host Caloundra’s first FREE Street Art Walking Tours. We upskilled ourselves in the knowledge of the pieces to share with others, so when their family and friends come to visit, they too can share this delightful walk.

Caloundra’s beautiful streets and laneways are home to an array of unique art for all to observe. The walk is easy and takes about 45 minutes.
