Education Willis Towers Watson Gives New Classrooms

The day began with the blessing of the 3-classroom building, followed by the turn-over ceremony, where the school heads and authorities from the local government took turns delivering their messages.

Ms. Mariquit Sison, Human Resources Head of Willis Towers Watson, and Mr. Jun Godornes, Resource Development Director of World Vision, also gave their words of support, encouragement, and gratitude. A turning over of the symbolic key, followed by the ribbon cutting and reveal of the building marker, capped the memorable event.

Afterwards, everyone feasted on delicious food and delicacies bountifully prepared by the community.

The smiles of the children shone as bright as the sun on February 13 as World Vision and Willis Towers Watson visited Manlagtang Elementary School in the District of Tabogon, Cebu, for the inauguration and official turn-over of a new 3-classroom building. This proposal was an initiative of the school authorities to address the students’ growing population and the poor conditions of the current classrooms. Willis Towers Watson answered the call, and by the generosity of their employees and leadership team, the students and teachers of Manlagtang ES are now able to enjoy roomy, well-lit, and well-ventilated spaces that are more conducive to learning and teaching.

Through this contribution, Willis Towers Watson has become a great blessing to the school, but their story doesn’t end here - they have since commenced new income generating projects that will provide for additional equipmaent for the classrooms and a clean and safe water facility for the school.

On January 25, Sprinto Volunteers and Marketing team visited the school to shoot a promotional video as part of their marketing efforts to promote the partnership and to provide updates of the on-going rehabilitation.

Disaster Response Preparedness in times of Calamities: Civicom Pacific donates for disaster-struck communities Long-time partner Civicom Pacific champions the essence of readiness to give as they handedly donated Php 600,000 to support the families affected by the Malabon fire, as well as the Surigao earthquake that devastated the country earlier this year.

Since typhoon Haiyan struck the country in 2013, it has been already a corporate practice of Civicom to allot a portion of their income in preparation for donations for unforeseen calamities and disasters. This year, their donation helped those affected by the Malabon fire, including the psychosocial support needed by the children affected by the earthquake in Surigao.

Economic Development CoMSCA Congress – Sama-samang Pag-iimpok Tungo sa Maganda at Handang Kinabukasan On April 22, 2017, the very first CoMSCA Congress was held in Baranngay As-is Covered Court, Laurel Batangas. The community celebrated the success of their CoMSCA program. More than 20 groups were formed, and it’s still growing.

The event was graced with the presence of Bank of Commerce’s representative, Mr. Ron Rodriguez.Mayora Joan Amon and Councilor Domingo Tenorio were also present.

CoMSCA, or the Community Managed Savings and Credit Association, is a World Vision economic development project model

that aims to provide simple savings and loan facilities to communities where access to financial services is difficult. It’s a simple, transparent and self-managed savings mechanism where members of the community save together, lend their savings to each other and share the profits. Members provide their own savings and credit services at negligible cost, while retaining earnings and investment in their own communities.

Child Sponsorship DSM Manila Supports 100 World Vision Kids in the Philippines

DSM Manila LLP (now White & Case Global Operations Center Manila) has partnered with World Vision for their CSR thrust towards quality education by sponsoring 100 children from various communities in the Philippines.

Half of the sponsorship came from our 3-day Face to Face caravan in DSM Manila’s HQ in Makati last February 8-10, while the other half comprised of the corporate matching sponsorship package done by DSM Manila.

On March 28, DSM Manila and World Vision officially formalized the partnership with the “MOA Signing and Sponsors’ Appreciation event” held in DSM Manila’s office. In attendance were members of World Vision’s Senior Leadership Team headed by Atty. Gene Abot and Mrs. Cecile Eugenio.

Top Financial Advisors Support World Vision’s Functional Literacy and Child Sponsorship Macaulay Club members, composed of Sun Life’s best and brightest advisors, gave their donation to World Vision in support of their education and financial literacy efforts. The money came from the advisors themselves, which was collected during their annual congress.

Health and Nutrition Jardine Donates More than 3000 ZAP! Mosquito Killers to Help fight Dengue

On February 13, Jardine Distribution donated more than 3000 aerosol cans of Zap products to the city of Malabon to help fight dengue. Dengue has been a prevalent health risk in the country that has constantly been at the top of the list of health risks in the country. Jardine, in partnership with World Vision and the Malabon city LGU, has initiated the fight against dengue through their donation. Jardine Distribution is the official local distribution channel of Zap products here in the Philippines.

Their range of products includes mosquito killers, multiinsect killers, and other pests prevention items in the market. More than 3000 families benefited from their generous contribution.

Child Protection It takes a world

to end sexual exploitation of children There is nothing worse for a child than experiencing violence, exploitation or neglect. In 2017, World Vision in the Philippines launched its global campaign to end sexual exploitation against children. World Vision is committed to stand and speak out to protect children from harm, grieving with the abused and seeking restoration.

CAMPAIGN GOAL 3 Million Children are protected from sexual exploitation by 2020.

One of the grim realities we face today is the sexual abuse of children. In the Philippines, 1 out of 10 children encounter sexual violence at home. Our country ranks 10th worldwide when it comes to sexual exploitation of children aged 10 to 14. And with the ready accessibility of the internet and rapid technological advancement, children are becoming more vulnerable to online abuse now more than ever.

According to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Judy Taguiwalo, children from marginalized groups are the most vulnerable to sexual abuse.

“Children of the poor, children living in disaster-prone areas or in evacuation centers, and even children of migrant workers, among others, are vulnerable to sexual exploitation.”

To strengthen its efforts in child protection,World Vision launched an advocacy campaign entitled “It Takes a World to End Sexual Exploitation of Children.” The 3-year campaign aims to reach three million children and to protect them from sexual exploitation and other forms of online and offline abuse.
