ABOUT ME

RÉSUMÉ

Born and Raised in Kuwait, in an Indian school with Lebanese parents, I am what’s commonly referred to as a third-culture kid. I completed my Bachelors in Beirut and later pursued my Masters in Barcelona. Currently, I specialize in Digital modelling, Visualization, Parametric, Biomorphic, and Fabrication design. I have been practicing design for the past 13 years, with my future goals focussing on expanding it with Machine Learning.

I’d like to consider a design as a living organism of data living in symbiosis with its user and environment. An environment lushing with objects would evolve simultaneously with the micro-evolutions of those respective objects. Hence, it’s not enough to respect the existing environment but also its orthogenetic evolution to create an object that truely represents a tissue in this organism.

I aspire for that goal object by focussing on the impact it has on its user and fellow objects through philosophical and data-driven critical analysis. My approach always involves research and data analysis to generate the most effective design process possible. I’m always intrigued by new ideas and perspectives, while constantly experimenting with new design approaches. The more diverse the perspectives explored are, the more mature and well-established an object becomes.

Nature

Nature has been experimenting for millions of years, praising it is not ludacris, its logical.

Learning & Teaching

We are mammals, if we do not share and expand our knowledge, then what are we?

Science Fiction

INTERESTS DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

When learning is not enough, exploring possible ideas helps me better understand what I already know and what could be known.

Coffee & Debates

Always up for a debate over a cup of coffee - Don’t believe in Aliens? Religions? People behaviour? What’s the best language? Just give me a call and let’s argue about it.

Exploring

Discovering new cultures, habits, people and experiences helps me better understand and appreciate life with all its beauty.

J RESIDENCE

Design Initiated by Farshad Mehdizadeh FMZD, and developed by Built by Associative Data BAD. The J Residence features a cluster of parametrically designed stone slits, perpendicular to the site’s topography to provide privacy and introverted courtyards. The slits create an oasis micro-environment, with tall palms and water features, to provide cool outdoor spaces during the dry Bekaa summers.

THE COURTYARD

The courtyard tiling were designed algorithmically to assimilate the stone slit structures, and incoperate spaces for the palms and water elements. Thin strips of grass were fitted between the concrete tiles to connect those elements together and give a more lively ambience within the courtyard.

YAOUNDE PIXEL

Multi-use Masterplan Complex Yaounde, Cameroon • February 2021

Situated in the heart of Yaounde, on top of a hill where a chemicals factory was previously located. The complex houses thirty independent villas (Divided into five typologies), commercial areas, a hotel, offices and a club house.

The project is parametrically designed by compositioning voxels into tetris-like morphologies, joined together to form the residential villas and the public mountain. The Mountain Tower gradually interpolates the hill topography creating a sureal scene of the forest rising high over the urbanism of the region.

The greenery lushing the complex was also parametrically modularized through pocket gardens and parks. Populated with over fifty different plant and tree species to resemble a marriage between Cameroon’s lush forests and urban landscapes.

TOUR B

Multipurpose Office Building

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire • February 2021

Assigned to create a Landmark for one of the high-level families in Abidjan, the tower was designed to be a sculpture with a parametric facade responding to the region’s micro climate.

My task within this project was to visualise it in the most sureal surroundings resembling the city, and to focus on the winding bridges neighbouring it and their visual effect on the tower’s morphology.

LES ZENITH

Multipurpose Office Building Diamniadio, Senegal • January 2021

Designed in the commercial heart of a recently founded urban expansion in Diamniadio, the tower must act as a landmark and meeting point for two main highways.

Inspired by Senegal’s environment colors, and their magestic Baobab trees, the materiality colors were carefully chosen to symbiotically blend with its surroundings while exposing itself as the dominant entity within it.

SCADA OFFICES

Solar Panel Field Operation Offices

Konya, Turkey • January 2021

In colaboration with Urban Atölye - Nilüfer Kozikoglu, the project is the operations center/ offices for a 40 sq. km solar panel field situated in the heart of Konya’s desert in Turkey.

The project features a biomorphic vessel lushing with greenery to create a pleasant micro-climate within a dry region. The vessel in itself houses a squad of generatively designed blobs, each with its own functions responding to its surroundings and symbiotically affecting each other morphologically.

NEMER NABBOUH Page 08 PORTFOLIO SCADA OFFICES

GENERATIVE DESIGN

The entire morphology was generated algorithmically through generations. Each generation builds upon its predecessor by altering the morphology of exsisting entities with respect to the introduced entity in each generation. The last 7 generations no longer introduces new entities but optimizes the entities with respect to the initial parameters (sun shading, wind direction, funtionality and accesability).

A CHRISMAS SOUL

Chrismas Tree Installation

Beirut, Lebanon • December 2020

Shortly after the Beirut Port Explosion, a competition was posted to design a chrismas tree in the most affected part of the explosion - Gemmayze, to give hope to its residents.

The proposed design features a reflective weaved net that would capture a series of projected lighting shows and images. The light show would create an ever-changing form displaying the various paths of hope its residents could undertake to rise again as the center for culture and nightlife in Beirut.

JEDDAH WATERFRONT

Waterfront Masterplan Jeddah, Saudi Arabia • October 2020

Designed in colaboration with five different firms - including Sytematica and Keirallah Architects, each responsible for one of the design’s layers.

My task focussed on 3D modelling the site, surroundings and urban morphologies, and visualize them. Due to the sheer scale of the project, I had to undertake a parametric approach to efficiently model the entire area within a limited time frame.

The project features mainly a series of more than 30 residential buildings, 45 food and beverage stores, 3 hotels, commercial areas and 3 Ferry stations.

ZENLIV

Multi-purpose Office Building Diamniadio, Senegal • November 2019

Designed for the same client as Les Zenith, Zenliv resembles a satellite version of the earlier project that would house rental office spaces with a luxurious intake. The facade is designed to leave a similar impression as the aforementioned project, but with a touch of its own personality. The earthy louvered facade parametrized to optimize airflow within the building, with various green elements infesting it reflect its environment as an African nation.

LUXURIOUS APPROACH

The approach has been carefully designed to create a narrative experience suited for a luxourious office. The landscape is an undulating tetris, each block featuring either a green space or a seating area. The landscape extends to the Entrance lobby with stone flooring, metallic wall and ceiling finishes.

MOSCOW TOWERS

Multi-purpose Offices Complex Moscow, Russia • October 2019

Located in heart of Moscow, the project has been designed algorithmically based on the site’s parameters - sun orientation, down town views, river views and their symbiotic relation.

The algorithm is designed to alter the height, orientation and facade of five masses based on the parameters mentioned above. As a result, the entire project has been computationally generated.

MTN SYRIA

Designed as the main headquarters for a telecommunications company in Syria, the project resembles a high-tech industrial building, fully generated algorithmically.

The industrial facade has been designed through layers of parametrically assigned modules with respect to the functions they are holding and morphology of the building. On the inside, the building is an open space with hundreds of offices lining its perimeter. The yellow and blue colors accenting the industrial layers, are MTN’s company profile colors.

Those modules were distributed using an algorithm that takes into consideration the lighting quality and environment of the offices inside. The entire facade is backed by the main building’s I-beam truss structure.
