Reiki for Post-Holiday Stress Recovery

Angel Hawk Reiki is offering a discounted introductory reiki session during the month of January to help with post-holiday stress recovery. According to reiki master practitioner Janice Sutton, reiki gives people a chance to change their energy, leaving the excess stress behind, and move on without the

Janice Sutton past dragging behind them. Reiki energy accesses the relaxation response, which then clears the body for its own innate wisdom to step in and heal.

Sutton says, “As a registered nurse, I am ever presently aware how stress effects the body. And stress fosters the body to underperform. Reiki accesses that stress and squelches it.”

Cost: $50. Location: West Shore Wellness, 459 Sandy Ln., Warwick, RI. For more information, call 401-298-0306 or email Janice Sutton at JaniceS1111@netzero.net. See Resource Guide on page 37.

The Shadow Side of Being a Musician

Cecile Raynor, founder of Cecile’s Wise Ways, is offering a two-part introductory and experiential online workshop from 7 to 8:30 p.m., January 18 and 25, for musicians that are experiencing chronic pain.

It is common for musicians to experience chronic pain in their muscles or joints, but they often don’t talk about it or seek help. The Alexander Technique helps them to reclaim integrated functioning so all body parts can function harmoniously together both in daily movements and while they practice or perform. As they discover and unlearn the unconscious habits that are feeding their pain, they learn about five essential key relationships in their body that promote their most natural good posture. They learn to activate their whole-body intelligence to deepen their coordination and balance, while increasing their energy and resilience to perform at their best.

For 30 years, Raynor has been helping people with poor posture, chronic muscular tension and pain, joint issues and headaches reclaim their ease of movement, their natural good posture, and the joy and peace of mind brought by well-being.

Cost: $55. To register, visit CecileRaynor.lpages.co/ alexander-technique-for-musicians. See Resource Guide listing on page 37.

Yoga Studio Offers Free Introductory Svaroopa Class

Time for You Yoga is hosting a free yoga class from 2 to 3:30 p.m., January 22, at its studio in Cumberland, Rhode Island, for students new to the studio to learn about Svaroopa yoga, an easy and adaptable style of yoga. “People may not realize that Svaroopa yoga is different from other styles of yoga,” says Maria Sichel, certified Svaroopa yoga teacher and therapist. “If you can get up and down from the floor and sit in a chair, you can do this style of yoga. It makes feeling good and at ease accessible to any body.”

This session will introduce Svaroopa yoga through a short, guided awareness and four basic poses known as the Magic Four, a sequence of beginning Svaroopa poses that target specific parts of the spine to unravel tension. The poses are adapted to each student and use chairs, blocks and blankets for support and propping. Sichel will teach the class and offer individualized attention so the poses effectively ease the body and mind. There will be time for questions throughout the class.

No yoga mat or prior yoga experience is needed. Class space is limited, and reservations are required. Reserve a spot by calling the studio. Dress comfortably and plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the class start time.

Cost: Free. Location: 2155 Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland, RI. For more information, call Maria Sichel at 401-305-5319 or visit TimeForYouYoga.com. See ad on page 27 and Resource Guide on page 38.
