Nadar Summer Academy for composers #1 August 20-‐24 2017 deSingel, Antwerp, Belgium
Nadar Ensemble is organizing a 5-‐day intensive summer academy for 4 to 5 composers/sound artists at the International Arts Center deSingel, in Antwerp, Belgium. We are looking in particular for composers/sound artists who are in the early stage of their career and who will benefit from individual and group sessions with the musicians, the sound engineer and the scenographer of the ensemble, as well as with theatre technicians from deSingel and three invited composers (Cathy van Eck, Stefan Prins & Daan Janssens) in developing and workshopping a new work. Nadar Ensemble is especially interested in adventurous works that involve 2-‐5 musicians from the ensemble (see below for instrumentation) and somehow expand a traditional understanding of ‘concert music’. This might include a special staging or scenography, the use of new technologies, non-‐idiosyncratic
performance practices, installative aspects, … There is no age limitation to be able to apply, although we are specifically looking for composers at the early age of their career. The International Arts Center deSingel (www.desingel.be) is hosting the academy, and will provide world class professional technical assistance in the development of the selected works.
