about architecture... this portfolio includes a variety of professional and academic projects i have designed over the past 5 years. each project has a completely different approach and design philosophy. thus, each project have a totally different and unique outcome. as for me, i believe in new beginnings, new perspectives, and new approaches. and the beauty about architecture is that it lets you think different each time. it gives you a chance to design as a completely different person, a chance to set the rules, and a chance to defy the rules. so, during the fIVE years of my architecture program, I insisted on challenging myself every single time to come up with a brand new idea and never be afraid of breaking the rules.

“One of the great beauties of architecture is that each time, it is like life starting all over again.” – Renzo Piano

CFC MALL THE VILLAGE AVENUE RENNOVATION

PROFESSIONAL WORK

2022

LANDSCAPE DESIGNED BY: TAREK BESHIR ARCHITECTS PERSONAL ROLE: PREPARED A PRESENTATION FOR A CONCEPTUAL PROPOSAL TO REVAMP THE VILLAGE AVENUE. THE PROPOSAL INCLUDED SMALL INTERVENTIONS THROUGHOUT THE AVENUE AND OTHER BIGGER-SCALED PROPOSAL FOR THE MAIN NODES. TO IMPROVE THE URBAN QUALITY OF THE VILLAGE

rennovation of the main nodes Visual Documentation of The Existing Condition (Gate 4) All the nodes of the main avenue lack visual interest. The flooring material is slippery and could be hazardous for walking or any sort of activities. The lack of shading devices, water features, and minimal vegetations decreases the thermal comfort and cause for deserted nodes. Most of the restaurants do not have sufficient outdoor areas. Precedents

During the evening, the island can be illuminated by flood lights above the tensile structure to provide indirect lighting instead of direct illumination that might cause glare.

Visual Documentation of The Existing Condition (Gate 1) All the nodes of the main avenue lack visual interest. The flooring material is slippery and could be hazardous for walking or any sort of activities. The lack of shading devices, water features, and minimal vegetations decreases the thermal comfort and cause for deserted nodes. Main features should be added as focal points such as vegetation, water, or Instagramable features Precedents

URBAN acupuncture SOLUTIONS Visual Documentation of The Existing Condition Sloped planters with very steep angles gives an unpleasant appearance and are not consistent throughout the site. In addition the sloped planters do not provide sufficient space for the plants to grow properly.

Proposed Design Intent/Technical Recommendations on Existing Condition Raise the parapet of all planters to the higher grading level. Add ground covers to the empty planters.

Visual Documentation of The Existing Condition Several accesses to the same area cause a waste of space and are often closed with temporary features such as barricade stands or movable planting pots giving a chaotic unpleasant look.

Proposed Design Intent/Technical Recommendations on Existing Condition Close unnecessary entries with planters to avoid the waste of space with a coherent hardscape element.

12

CFC MALL- THE VILLAGE AVENUE

Proposed Design Intent/Technical Recommendations on Existing Condition Tilted Planters do not have a consistent slope angle and should be changed to stepped planters.

Proposed Design Intent/Technical Recommendations on Existing Condition The planter should be shifted to align with the edge of the building to provide a wider, usable outdoor dining area.

Proposed Design Intent/Technical Recommendations on Existing Condition Unused seating gated with barricade stands disrupts the visual experience and creates an unpleasant look. The bench should be removed and replaced with a regular planter that is similar to other existing instead to avoid the usage of barricade stands

re-inventing the new architecture language of the city should capture the essence of the city and its people. as for the case of fowah, a forgotten city in egypt’s delta was once considered a global catalyst for textile industry, the essence of the city lies inbetween the finger tips of the weavers who created an interwoven culture that added fowah to the global textile map.

FIRST FEZ FACTORY IN EGYPT BUILT IN FOWAH

EVOLUTION OF TEXTILE INDUSTRY STARTED AS FOWAH WAS CONSIDERED A TRANSPORT HUB

CHANGING THE EGYPTIAN MILITARY UNIFORM BY MUHAMMED ALI BASHA

Fowah used export its textiles to different cities, the kilim production had a global influence ranging from china to Europe, especially through the silk road that used to connect different cities through textile trade.

CONCEPT: Rebranding Kilim industry by empowering the hand and enhancing creativity through manifesting a rhythmic interwoven spatial language that integrates the process of weaving with social interaction Integrating the language of the kilim with the architectural style of the building

Giving a statement that although kilim could be updated, the essence of the craft that it is handmade

Kilim used as canopies providing shade for open spaces and courtyards

Looms used as partitions show the process of kilim until it is f inished and turned into an art work

Exhibiting the process of kilim making instead of only the end product

Group Members:carla ihab- passant ahmed- yasmina elgezeiry individual contribution: master plan derivation- building configuration

3D shots visualization and rendering

design brief: the urban experience lies in the

“in-between”and not the

bounding entity. our approach was to derive a masterplan solely guided by different typologies of the informally generated liminal spaces

liminal: /ˈlɪmɪn(ə)l/

a transitory, in-between state or space, a threshold, which is characterized by indeterminacy, ambiguity, hybridism, potential for subversion or change. Liminal Space: Physical equivalent of the life-world.

problem defInition: - SMOKERS FEEL STIGMATIZED AS THEY ARE FORCED TO GO AND SMOKE OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS PERIPHERY. - THIS IN TURN BECOMES A REASON FOR THE NON- ABIDING BEHAVIORS OF THE SMOKERS IN RELATION TO THE SMOKING AREAS. - THE LIMITED SEATING, SANDY GROUNDS, AND INSUFFICIENT SHADING CREATES AN UNPLEASANT ATMOSPHERE THAT INCREASES THE STIGMATIZATION FEELING FELT BY THE SMOKERS. - THE NON-SMOKERS GET AFFECTED BY THE LACK OF A BUFFERING SYSTEM WHERE THEY BECOME SECOND HAND-SMOKERS...

CONCEPT: CREATING A COMMUNAL SPACE THAT ACTS AS AN EXTENSION TO THE AUC COMMUNITY IN ORDER TO ALLEVIATE THE STIGMATISATION OF SMOKERS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.
