about architecture... this portfolio includes, a variety of individual/ group projects i have designed over the 5 years of me studying architecture. each project has a completely different approach and design philosophy. thus, each project have a totally different and unique outcome. as for me, i believe in new beginnings, new perspectives, and new approaches. and the beauty about architecture is that it lets you think different each time. it gives you a chance to design as a completely different person, a chance to set the rules, and a chance to defy the rules. so, during the fIVE years of my architecture program, I insisted on challenging myself every single time to come up with a brand new idea and never be afraid of breaking the rules.

“One of the great beauties of architecture is that each time, it is like life starting all over again.” – Renzo Piano

re-inventing the new architecture language of the city should capture the essence of the city and its people. as for the case of fowah, a forgotten city in egypt’s delta was once considered a global catalyst for textile industry, the essence of the city lies inbetween the finger tips of the weavers who created an interwoven culture that added fowah to the global textile map.

KILIM RE-INTERWOVEN

CONCEPT: Rebranding Kilim industry by empowering the hand and enhancing creativity through manifesting a rhythmic interwoven spatial language that integrates the process of weaving with social interaction Integrating the language of the kilim with the architectural style of the building

Giving a statement that although kilim could be updated, the essence of the craft that it is handmade

Kilim used as canopies providing shade for open spaces and courtyards

Looms used as partitions show the process of kilim until it is finished and turned into an art work it is handmade

Exhibiting the process of kilim making instead of only the end product

INDULGENT RHYTHMS WHICH GIVES A SMOOTH TRANSITIONAL SPATIAL QUALITY AND THUS, CREATING A MORE RELAXING EXPERIENCE.

FIGHTING RHYTHMS HAVE MORE SHARP AND INTENSE TRANSITIONS THAT CREATE A MORE ACTIVE, ATTENTIVE EXPERIENCE Introducing new products rather than rugs

Interwoven Language WEAVING TECHNIQUE

EXPERIENTIAL SECTION

CIRCULATION LOGIC FORM EXPRESSION

EQUAL EMPHASIS ON THE VERTICAL WARP AND HORIZONTAL WEFT. GIVES A SENSE OF TRANSPARENCY

EMPHASIS IS ONLY ON THE HORIZONTAL WEFT. THE VERTICAL WARP BECOMES ONLY STRUCTURE AND NOT PART OF THE DESIGN.

DIAGONAL SLITS CREATED FROM HORIZONTAL STITCHES TURNING AROUND ALTERNATING WARP THREADS. CREATING MORE BOLD DESIGNS SHOWING THE CONTRAST OF TWO COLORS.

EVOLVED TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM OF SLITS WEAKENING THE STRUCTURE. WEFTS START TO INTERLOCK WITH EACH OTHER. CREATES MORE BLURRED DESIGNS.

HAS A ROUGH APPEARANCE. EXTRA WEFTS ARE WRAPED AROUND THE WARPS USUALLY IN RATIO; 2:1- 3:1 - 5:1. THE ONLY TECHNIQUE THAT RESEMBLES CORDING AND RUNS PARALLEL TO THE WARPS

PARADOX.. INTERIOR DESIGN FOR SARA BARAS

INDIVIDUAL

SPRING 19

IN THIS PROJECT, THE QUEST WAS TO ANALYSE THE PERSONALITY OF A CELEBRITY AND ANALYSE THEIR LIFE STYLE. THEN DESIGN THE INTERIOR SPACE OF A LIVING ROOM, A BEDROOM, AND A BATHROOM IN A WAY THAT REPRESENTS THEIR PERSONALITY THE BEST.

34

PARADOX...

SARA BARAS PROFILE SARA BARAS IS A FEMALE FLAMENCO DANCER AND CHOREOGRAPHER BORN IN SAN FERNANDO, SPAIN WHO HAS ESTABLISHED HER OWN DANCE COMPANY. SHE RECIEVED NUMEROUS DANCING AWARDS INCLUDING THE NATIONAL DANCE AWARD IN THE PERFORMANCE CATEGORY FOR THE MARIANA PINEDA SHOW. BARAS HAS A VERY UNIQUE STYLE THAT DIFFERS FROM OTHER FLAMENCO DANCERS. ALTHOUGH SHE IS VERY DRAMATIC AND POWERFUL DURING HER PERFORMACE, SHE IS VERY CHEERFUL AND DOWN TO EARTH IN HER REAL LIFE. YET, HER STYLE IS ALWAYS SIMPLE AND ELEGANT. THIS PROJECT INTEND TO SHOW THE SOFISTICATION OF SARA BARAS THROUGH HIGHLIGHTING THE CONTRADICTION BETWEEN HER STRIKING DRAMATIC APPEARANCE AND THE CHEERFUL AND SIMPLE SIDE OF HER LIFE KEEPING THE MATURITY THAT REPRESENTS HER PERSONALITY.
