U N D E R G R A D U AT E ACADEMIC CAREER University of Pretoria BSc (Architecture) 2012-2014
Second year exposed students to a whole new range of disciplines. Although the use of technology was prohibited in order not to harmthe natural design process, the objective was to demystify the process of design and enable a personal design methology. As a continuation from first year projects,we focussed on the integration of the three disciplines of architecture, and how we blur the lines between them - the building, its interior, and the landscape in which it exists. An exploration and transformation of ground with figure, dismissing architecture as an object - but rather a space in which we choose to exist.
SECONDYEAR YEAR SECOND
site
the brief required us to create a residential space integrated with a commercial space. The site is a vibrant one in the CBD of Pretoria, where there are landmarks & monuments that add character to a city of mediation - where there are not sky scrapers like those of Johannesburg, nor are they low scale.
approach
my approach was to create an urban, more public space at ground level - a mysterious space that would draw you in by passing by. A lift through the core would determine whether the resident wants to cater for commercial reasons (doors open to office) or on an entertainment level - where the lift doors would open to a typical entertainment area. The diameter of each tower is 9m, allowing little to cater for, but focus on basic human needs of work & play.

, This space will attract who need healing. The healing method will not be through a hospitalized space, but a family feeling space where women & children from all over the globe unite to form their own tight knit community where they work with one another – emotionally & physically.
These women will no longer feel the enclosure of their body, but an enclosure of their space.
