The Final Word WITH NAVAL AIR FACILITY ATSUGI COMMANDING OFFICER
CAPT. J. M. MONTAGNET NAF Atsugi community,
Effective 1 October, the black cold weather parka rank insignia became mandatory on all uniform components with rank tabs, including the NWU Type II and III shirts, parkas, and black and brown fleece liners. And this applies for both officers and enlisted. No one is exempt! Please don't be that one special person who is out of regs! And while we are on the subject of uniforms, per Commander, Navy Region Japan, the winter uniform shift for us here at NAF Atsugi will be the first of November! Please don't wait until the last minute to get back up to speed. On the Navy's Birthday, we all had the opportunity to attend the NAFA Navy Ball, which was held for the first time in three years due to COVID-19 health and safety measures being implemented. I have to be honest, for those who did not attend, you missed out on one of the best navy ball events that I have ever been to! It was definitely a night to remember! We had a great turnout! Lots of outstanding food and fun times with some gift prizes! Shout out to Chief Chris ruff and the entire navy ball committee for putting on such an awesome spectacle that we will not forget anytime soon and to be honest I must say that I am already looking forward to next year's event! I would also like to say thank you to everyone else who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this a great event, which includes the MWR staff who provided such an outstanding full course meal. This also leads me into our recent pinning of 17 Chief Petty Officers recently added to the Chief Petty Officers mess. Congratulations to them and their families as they embark on furthering their naval careers! Now another important item to discuss is the Branch Health Clinic Atsugi's Seasonal Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination Drive. Please be aware that all active-duty members are required to have seasonal influenza shots and commands must achieve a minimum compliance of 90%. Also, even though they are not mandatory, bivalent covid-19 boosters are recommended and highly encouraged. These shots are available for ages 12 years and older and for other beneficiaries who have had greater than two months since completing their initial covid-19 primary series. The immunization department is taking people who wish to receive a flu shot by way of walk-ins, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. And for those who seek to have their bivalent covid-19 booster shots, please contact the immunizations office at 264-4790. Ok, so with that, I would like to close by applauding the efforts of our entire team here at NAF Atsugi. I thank each and every one of you for your dedication to duty and service to the NAFA community, your neighbors, and coworkers. Lastly, to each of our family members all over the base: You are awesome! Thank you for your commitment to the health and welfare of everyone on this base. From my point of view, what makes Atsugi such a great base is each and every one of you who live and work here!
