On the eve of a major European Union diplomatic foray into China, the bloc’s foreign policy chief on Tuesday lashed out at Beijing for its support of Russia amid the invasion of Ukraine, and called it “a blatant violation” of its United Nations commitments.
“There cannot be siding with the aggressor,” Jo- sep Borrell said ahead of a trip to Beijing by the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron. “There is a clear expectation from a permanent member of the UNSC to stand up in defense of international rules-based order and China as a moral duty to contribute to a fair peace.”
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Borrell was unusually blunt in his condemnation of a nation that has increasingly moved from being an EU partner to being a rival on the global stage.

Russia warned that it would be forced to take
“retaliatory measures” to address what it called security threats created by Finland’s membership. It had also warned it would bolster forces near Finland if NATO sends any additional troops or equipment to what is its 31st member country.
The alliance says it poses no threat to Moscow.
Neighbouring Sweden, which has avoided military alliances for more than 200 years, has also applied. But objections from NATO members Turkiye and Hungary have delayed the process.

“I’m tempted to say this is maybe the one thing that we can thank Mr. Putin for because he once again here pre cipitated something he claims to want to prevent by Russia’s aggression, causing many countries to believe that they have to do more to look out for their own defence and to make sure that they can deter possible Russian aggression going forward,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said just before accepting the documents that made Finland’s membership official.

WELLINGTON, APR 4 (IANS): New
Zealand
Prime Minister Chris Hipkins on Tuesday appointed his predecessor Jacinda Ardern as Special Envoy for the Christchurch Call, a Wellington-led global initiative to fight terrorism and extremism after the deadly March 2019 mosque shootings.
The Special Envoy for the Christchurch Call will report directly to the Prime Minister, reports Xinhua news agency. Ardern has declined to receive any remuneration for the new post and will commence her role on April 17, Hipkins said.
“The Christchurch Call is a foreign policy priority for the government and Jacinda Ardern is uniquely placed to keep pushing forward with the goal of eliminating violent extremist content online,” the Prime Minister said.
“Terrorist and violent extremist content online is a global issue, but for many in New Zealand it is also very personal,” he said, adding that the Christchurch Call is part of the response to the March 15, 2019, terror attacks on the two Christchurch mosques which killed 51 people.
The special envoy will serve as New Zealand’s senior representative on Christchurch Call-related matters, working closely with France as co-leaders, according to the prime minister.
The Christchurch Call is a global initiative working across governments, the tech sector and civil society to eliminate terrorist and violent extremist content online.
On October 14, a Russian engineer named Gleb Karakulov boarded a flight from Kazakhstan to Turkey with his wife and daughter.
He switched off his phone to shut out the crescendo of urgent, enraged messages, said goodbye to his life in Russia and tried to calm his fast-beating heart.
But this was no ordinary Russian defector. Karakulov was an officer in President Vladimir Putin’s secretive elite personal security service — one of the few Russians to flee and go public who have rank, as well as knowledge of intimate details of Putin’s life and potentially classified information.
Karakulov, who was responsible for secure communications, said moral opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and his fear of dying there drove him to speak out, despite the risks to himself and his family.
“Our president has become a war criminal,” he said. “It’s time to end this war and stop being silent.”

Karakulov’s account generally conforms with others that paint the Russian president as a once charismatic but increasingly isolated leader, who doesn’t use a cell phone or the Internet and insists on access to Russian state television wherever he goes. He also offered new details about how Putin’s paranoia appears to have deepened since his decision to invade Ukraine in February 2022.
The year 2023 has been a very dark era for the NSCN/Gp RN-Reformation as it marks a very painful unbearable happenings taking atoll the lives of serving Compatriots of High stature holding high office as well Military Command Leaders in a span of few months, consecutively succumbing to loss of lives.
