Niki-led NSCN (K) to revive CF

DIMAPUR, DEC 23 (NPN): Newly elected president of the breakaway faction of the NSCN (K), Niki Sumi Wednesday announced that the faction, in order to facilitate the peace process, has decided to revive the cease fire with the government of India which it had unitarily abrogated in 2015. Niki Sumi was recently elected as president of the new faction formed in July after differences emerged with the leadership of the original NSCN-K insurgent group in Myanmar led by its chairman Yung Aung. Niki said the faction had been striving for years to achieve an honourable and acceptable political solution to the Naga issue. He said NSCN/GPRN was also conscious of the overwhelming sentiments among Nagas for an early solution to the protracted issue. Niki said his group was aware of the sincere and genuine efforts made by the government of India in the recent past, in finding a final and lasting solution to the Naga issue with involvement of all the

Gov extends Christmas greetings DIMAPUR, DEC 23 (NPN): Nagaland governor RN Ravi has extended very warm Christmas greetings to citizens of the state. In his message to the people of the state, Nagaland Governor said that truth, non-violence, forgiveness and grace were the essence of this joyous festival and called for imbibing “these essential virtues as we celebrate Christmas.” Stating that this year’s Christmas celebration was being held amidst global pandemic, the governor appealed to each and every citizen to follow all the COVID-19 protocols at all times. “May the true spirit of Christmas be with all of us in thoughts and in action. God bless Nagaland and may you all have a very merry Christmas!” Ravi stated.

stakeholders. Therefore, NSCN/GPRN resolved to strengthen and support the peace process at the present critical juncture. Niki further said in the regard, leaders of his group have established contact with officials of the government of India. Therefore, in order to facilitate the process and also in view that the desire of the Naga people, particularly, Naga civil society organisations and NGOs, the NSCN/GRPN had decided to revive the cease fire with immediate effect which it had unilaterally revoked in 2015. In this regard, Niki expressed the hope that the government of India will respond positively by honouring his group’s decision of revoking its earlier decision to unilaterally abrogate the cease fire in 2015.

“We expect Government of India to respond positively by honouring our decision as a confidence building measure in the larger interests of peace in Nagaland and Naga people in general,” the statement read. Meanwhile, a home ministry official told The Indian Express that “this is the last group of Indian origin leaders and cadres operating from Myanmar.” “Their joining peace process will give a boost to Naga peace process as the remaining chunk of NSCN-K is Myanmar centric and is irrelevant to the government,” the official said. As reported earlier, there were speculations about Niki joining the peace process. According to Imphal Times report, a high level Indian army team had received Niki Sumi at the

Indo-Myanmar border in Phek district, and who was likely to proceed to New Delhi to hold talks with the Government of India. Highly placed sources also informed Nagaland Post that once the Government of India decides to take Niki’s group on board, the leader(s) will be taken to Delhi for the formal talks. It may be recalled that Niki was recently elected as the president of the NSCN (K), which broke away from the Myanmar based NSCN (K) group headed by Yung Aung. The post of president remained vacant after its former president Nyemlang Konyak joined the NSCN (R) on September 26, 2020. According to a report in The Print, Niki Sumi is the prime accused in the killing of 18 Indian Army soldiers by NSCN-K in Manipur’s Chandel district on June 4, 2015. The National Investigation Agency had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of Sumi, who was then the commander of the armed wing of the outfit.

SII develops first indigenous vaccine against pneumonia NEW DELHI, DEC 23 (PTI): The first indigenous vaccine against pneumonia, developed by Serum Institute of India (SII), is slated to be launched by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and made available in the domestic market early next week, official sources said on Wednesday. According to the sources, the vaccine will be much more affordable than existing ones manufactured by two foreign companies. India’s drug regulator in July had granted market approval for the Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate vaccine, after reviewing the phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trial data submitted by the Punebased firm. This vaccine is used for active immunisation against invasive disease and pneumonia caused by “Streptococcus pneumonia” in infants, the health ministry had said earlier. Serum Institute has conducted the phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials of the vaccine in India and African nation Gambia. “This is the first indigenously developed vaccine in the field of pneumonia,” an official source said.

Says govt should send concrete proposal instead of ‘love letters’ NEW DELHI, DEC 23 (PTI): Hardening their position, protesting farmer unions on Wednesday asked the government not to repeat the proposal of “meaningless” amendments that they have already rejected but come up with a “concrete” offer in writing for the resumption of talks. Reading out a reply to the government’s talks offer during a press conference, farmers leaders said that they are ready for dialogue with an open mind if they get a concrete proposal, but made it clear they will not accept anything less than a complete repeal of the three agriculture laws and legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP). Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav said that if

the government takes one step, farmers will take two, and asked it to stop writing “love letters”. All India Kisan Sabha leader Hannan Molla alleged that the government wanted to tire out the farmers out so that the protest would end. In a letter to Union Agriculture Joint Secretary Vivek Aggarwal, Sankyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of 40 unions protesting at several Delhi border points for the last 27 days, alleged that the government is treating the farmers as its “political opponents”. Yadav, who is also a member of Morcha, alleged that the government is holding parallel talks with farmer unions that have no relation with the protest and termed it as an attempt to derail the ongoing agitation against the three farm laws. “We have already told Home Minister Amit Shah that protesting farmers will

not accept amendments,” farmer leader Shiv Kumar Kakka told reporters, after a meeting of union leaders. Kakka said that the government should “abandon its stubbornness” and accept the demands of farmers, adding that the Centre should create a conducive environment for talks. During the day, farmers observed ‘Kisan Diwas’ – the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, by urging people to skip one time meal to express solidarity with their agitation. Several farmers visited ‘Kisan Ghat’ here on Wednesday morning to pay tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was known for his farmer-friendly policies. To mark Kisan Diwas, protesting farmers at Ghazipur border held a ‘havan’. More farm reforms due: Tomar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on

Wednesday said the government will continue with reforms in the farm sector as they are still due in many areas, even as he reiterated his hope that protesting farmers will soon come forward to resume their dialogue with the Centre to resolve their concerns over three new laws. The minister said any agitation can be resolved only through dialogue as has been the case always in history and urged the protesting unions to fix a date and time for the next round of talks. “I am fully hopeful that our farmer unions will discuss... If they give a date and time, the government is ready for the next round of talks...,” Tomar told reporters. Tomar said the government is hopeful that unions will soon discuss, decide and communicate their decision, after which the government can hold the next round of discussions immediately.

22 on UK-India flights test positive, samples sent for advanced test

At least 22 people who came to India from the UK in the past few days have tested positive for COVID19 amid alarm over a mutant strain of the coronavirus that is believed to be more contagious and was first identified in Britain. Eleven people who came from or via the UK have tested positive in Delhi, eight in Amritsar, two in Kolkata and one in Chennai, authorities said. There have been no confirmed instances of the mutant strain anywhere in India so far, the government has said. Further, as many as 1,688 passengers arrived at the Mumbai international airport from the UK and other countries since Monday midnight and 745 of them were quarantined. Gauri Agarwal, founder of Genestrings Diagnostic Center in Delhi, said that 11 samples were duly stored in cold storage and sent to NCDC, for further research using genome sequencing.

to immediately quarantine. Analysis of the new mutation and its trajectory in the UK is meanwhile being analyzed by scientific experts at Porton Down, the country’s specialist laboratory in southwest England. As a result, even more parts of the UK are set to be put under the strictest level of lockdown after ministers held talks earlier on Wednesday. Millions more in the east and south-east England will be placed into the Tier 4 highest alert level from December 26, celebrated as Boxing Day the day after Christmas. The minister also revealed that the Oxford University vaccine being produced by AstraZeneca has submitted its full data package for regulatory approval, even as the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine rollout continues. The briefing comes as the new variant identified in the UK last week, named VUI-202012/01 and with much higher transmissibility, led to several countries including India cutting off transport links with the UK in an effort to try and contain its spread outside Britain.

LONDON, DEC 23 (PTI): Two cases of another new strain of COVID-19 linked to South Africa have been identified in the UK, Health Secretary Matt Hancock revealed here on Wednesday. Like the UK variant identified earlier, the new variant of the novel coronavirus is also driving a massive resurgence of the disease in South Africa, with experts warning the country is probably facing a much larger second wave. “Both (cases of the new variant) are contacts of cases who have travelled from South Africa over the past few weeks,” Hancock said, addressing a briefing from 10 Downing Street. “This new variant is highly concerning because it is yet more transmissible and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant that has been discovered in the UK,” he said. The minister confirmed immediate restrictions on travel from South Africa and the government’s urgent message being for anyone who has been in South Africa or been in contact with someone linked with the country in the last fortnight

DIMAPUR, DEC 23 (NPN): It’s the time of the year when all worries take a back seat as world eagerly look forward to celebrate the Christmas- birthday of Messiah Lord Jesus Christ. The festive mood has dampened the festive spirit due

to coronavirus which has claimed the lives of over 17 lakh people worldwide. While residents of Dimapur city too suffered greatly due to the virus that has spread across India and other countries, with many lives lost including near and dear ones, the arrival of Christmas has uplifted

their spirits. As in the previous years, Dimapur City the state’s commercial hub has been decked up with Christmas trees and sparkling lights along with other parts of the State. Beautiful Christmas decorations and lights visible at various streets, major traffic intersections, colo-

nies, churches, shops, business establishments, buildings, private residences, etc, were captivating. Melodious Christmas songs echoed across homes, shops and market places through the chilly December air made it hard not to get soaked up in the festive spirit.

Many residents decorated their houses while some youth were seen decorating their colonies and lighting them up. All these sparked hope and peace for both residents and passersby. An elderly couple of Thahekhu, who lost their child to COVID-19 admit-

ted that they had been depressed for some time. They admitted to this reporter that the onset of the festive season has inspired them with a sense of hope, peace, joy and the courage to move ahead. They said the beautiful decorations in the locality set up by youth of area buoyed their spirits. A group of young ladies who were near the couple, said decorations at different parts of Dimapur filled their hearts and minds with hope, love and joy. “Though many people decorate their houses beautifully , they didn’t realise that the decorations radiated positive energy, spreading across society. The pandemic may have inflicted an emotional blow to people who lost jobs but it has not dampened the Christmas spirit.

India’s tally rises to 1,00,99,066: India’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,00,99,066 with 23,950 new infections being reported in a day, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 96.63 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday. The death toll increased to 1,46,444 with 333 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 96,63,382 pushing the national recovery rate to 95.69 per cent, while the COVID19 case fatality rate stands at 1.45 per cent. The COVID-19 active caseload remained below 3 lakh for the second consecutive day. There are 2,89,240 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 2.86 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

‘COVID immunity lasts at least eight months’ MELBOURNE, DEC 23 (PTI): People who have recovered from COVID-19 have immune memory to protect against reinfection for at least eight months, according to a new study which provides strong evidence for the likelihood that vaccines will work for long periods. While earlier studies have shown that antibodies against COVID wane after the first few months of infection, raising concerns that people may lose immunity quickly, the new research, published in the journal Science Immunology, puts these concerns to rest. According to the scientists, specific cells within the immune system called memory B cells, “remembers” infection by the virus, and if re-exposed to the virus, triggers a protective immune response through rapid production of protective antibodies. The request of the 3.5 Collective came up in line with the announcement made by the chief minister in a public meeting on December 18 last at Awang Potsangbam, Imphal East. The chief minister, mention may be made, had said that if the judgment of the special judge was not satisfied, it can be appealed to higher court. The CSO urged the chief minister to pray the court for re-investigation and re-trial of the case in the high court within the next two weeks before the limitation period runs out. “We hope you will take this request with all seriousness as the issue of drugs involves not only the health and wellbeing but the very survival of the people of Manipur,” the 3.5 Collective wrote the chief minister.

(AGENCIES): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Meghalaya has passed a resolution on Tuesday on “zero tolerance on corruption”. The party said that many people have been affected in both rural and urban areas due to bad governance in the state, reports The Sentinel Assam. The resolution was adopted at a meeting presided over by state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie. Earlier, in Meghalaya, BJP party was thought to be a communal party. However, now, it is seen as the guardian of the common people. The issue of corruption has, however, created a vertical rift in the party. The state and central leaders are putting forward opposed views on the graft issue. M. Chuba Ao, the Meghalaya BJP in-charges said that the corruption issue in the state should be discussed internally. On the other hand, the state BJP president is keen on raising the issue through the media. He said that they should highlight the corruption issue so that people will know what is going on.

Shillong, Dec 23: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday said he is ready to resign if allegation of corruption against him could be proved as has been alleged by the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC). The proscribed militant outfit has recently alleged that money collected from illegal coal transportation is being shared by the police, bureaucrats and right upto the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the Deputy Chief Minister. “Please bring facts and don’t talk irresponsibly,” he asked the banned outfit. “We are all human beings. Without any facts and documents we should refrain from making such statements. If they have any documents (to prove the allegations) I am ready to step down,” the Deputy Chief Minister said. The National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has been accused

of serious corruption allegations from the opposition Congress party besides its alliance partner the Bharatiya Janata Party, particularly revolving around the illegal coal mining and transportation in the State. Reacting to the BJP’s allegations of corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council which was headed by the NPP and demand for a CBI inquiry, Tynsong said “I have nothing to say ... an inquiry committee has been set up as far as allegations in the Autonomous district council are concerned.” “It is not only BJP who is against corruption. We are also equally concerned and if they have anything they should write to the

Chief Minister and if necessary we will set up two, three inquiry committees to look into the allegations,” the Deputy Chief Minister said. On the saffron party adopting a resolution on “zero tolerance on corruption”, Tynsong said that the MDA government has already passed a similar resolution on “zero tolerance on corruption” in the last coordination committee meeting of the MDA. Meanwhile, Tynsong asked the HNLC to send an official communication to the Government to hold peace talks.” The HNLC wants to hold peace talks for years, but the Central Government has placed the militant organization under the banned list of outfits in India. “They (HNLC) should not send requests to hold talks only through the media or the social media as these are not considered as official,” Tynsong said, adding that the State Government has sent a report to the Centre to hold peace talks with the HNLC, but there has been no response.

2 gibbons born in Itanagar Zoo within 8 days Itanagar, Dec 23 (PTI): In a Christmas present to animal lovers of Arunachal Pradesh, two gibbons have been born in Itanagar Biological Park, popularly known as Itanagar Zoo, within eight days. The first baby was born to the zoo’s youngest couple Jesu and Sonu on December 12 and the second to Bhat and Yapa on December 20, the biological park’s veterinarian Dr Sorang Tadap said on Wednesday. Another gibbon was born on October 2. It has been named ‘Gandhi’, he said. “The genders of the new-born gibbons can be identified only after four years through morphological changes in their skin colour,” Tadap said. The baby gibbons have been kept under 15-day observation, which is very crucial period for their survival, he said. The zoo, covering an area of over 250 hectares, launched the Hoolock Gibbon Conservation Breeding Programme in 2007. Seventeen gibbons have been born in the facility since 2008, of which only three have died. The zoo is the first lesser apes’ conservation centre in the country.

In her address, she urged the obstetricians and gynaecologists and also doctors to tackle issues of family healthcare, emergency obstetrics services, campaign against female foeticide and of HIV/AIDS. She said these areas need immediate attention and innovation to withstand various challenges towards creating an empowering and enabling environment for women’s unimpeded access to affordable health services. The Governor asserted

that obstetricians and gynaecologists have a pivotal role in guaranteeing the constitutional directive of right to equality and right to life, including the right to health of vast sections of our population. Among the diverse disciplines of medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology occupy a distinctive place as they cater to the well-being of the mother and child, she said. “The right to being born and once born, the right to life of a child is secured through the skilled and caring hands of the obstetricians and gynaecologists,” she said. Stating that operation theatres are the heart of a hospital, Heptulla maintained that designing a safe surgical environment incorporates features that prevent or control the risk of infection, fire, explosion and chemical and electrical hazards. She said that well-devised traffic patterns, material-handling systems, disposal systems, positive- pressure and well-dispersed clean ventilation and high-flow, unidirectional ventilation systems for special applications all contribute to a safe surgical environment.

24-hours strike in Tripura, vehicle movement disrupted

AGARTALA, DEC 23 (AGENCIES): Normal life in Tripura’s tribal areas of Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas and other mixed populated localities of the state have been affected due to the general strike called by tribal-based Tripura People’s Front (TPF) today, reports The Sentinel Assam. The strike was called in seeking for the justice of Biswajit Debbarma, a fireman who was killed in a mob attack during antiBru settlement agitation in Panisagar of North Tripura last month. The vehicle movement on highways in North and South Tripura from the capital city and train movement to and from Agartala has been disrupted following the strike. Most of the government offices and educational institutions in ADC areas are also closed. AK Bhattacharya, the additional home secretary had said that Director General of Police, District Magistrates and Superintendent of Police in all the districts have taken adequate measures to prevent any eventuality and maintain peace and tranquillity. They were also advised

strict adherence of COVID19 restrictions. The TPF supporters had blocked the Agartala-Sabroom highway at Bishramganj and Shachirambari, two locations at Agartala-Khowai road and two locations on Assam-Agartala national highway. However, there has been no untoward incident reported from anywhere yet. The TPF leaders have threatened that the movement will be continued until all the accused who are involved in the lynching of Biswajit are booked and brought for a fast-track trial. They had alleged that police have already identified the killers of Biswajit but have arrested only two so far. Meanwhile, the antiBru settlement movement leaders have warned to disturb the normalcy of North Tripura unless the government decides to take severe action against communal movement by TPF and other sectarian groups. They have claimed that following pressure from the tribal groups and to make royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma happy, two of their innocent activists were arrested and sent to jail on a false charge of killing.

AGARTALA, DEC 23 (PTI): Tripura opposition leader Manik Sarkar on Wednesday alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had launched a pre-planned attack on Communist Party workers while they were holding a condolence meeting for people who died protesting the Centres new farm laws in Delhi. The attack took place during the meeting at the residence of Pabitra Kar, state secretary of the All In-

dia Kisan Sabha, in Khayerpur on Monday, Sarkar told reporters. “When the BJP activists attacked them, our workers resisted and a scuffle ensued injuring a few people. They went away to return with larger numbers. Police was informed, but the attackers could not be stopped,” the Manik Sarkar (File) CPI(M) politburo member leged that his party workers said. The BJP activists also targeted many houses of CPI(M) workers and looted shops belonging to party supporters, the leader of the opposition said. Sarkar said, a delegation of Communist Party leaders, including four former cabinet ministers, tried to visit the spot on Tuesday

but were advised against going there. Reacting to Sarkar’s allegations, the BJP spokesperson said, “We did not attack them. Instead, seven of our supporters were injured in their attack. They threw bombs on the houses of our party workers. The entire incident occurred in front of the police”. Celebrating Christmas

C

hristmas celebrations in 2020 will be muted owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and SOP which has cast its dark shadows upon people. The name ‘Christmas’ comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life. Isaiah’s prophecy seven hundred years before Jesus Christ was born in what is modern-day Palestine, heralds the fulfilment of God’s promise for redemption of mankind. The pandemic has literally compelled several countries to opt for re-lockdown. Several western countries are experiencing the second or third wave of coronavirus and in the UK, which is hit by a mutated COVID-19; people have been asked to remain indoors this Christmas. This means there will be no public gathering for Christmas. For most Christians, or 2.5 billion of the world’s nearly 7 billion people, celebrating Christmas on December 25 is an occasion to welcome the birth of Jesus Christ. However, the early church did not celebrate Christ’s birth. Such celebration became part of the church’s event after “Christianization” of pagan rites by emperor Constantine of Rome in the 4th Century AD. Even though linked with pagan celebrations, the birth of Christ is not about human loving human. It is about God loving man. Christ’s gift is not material that can be seen but spiritual that can only be experienced. As the world welcomes Christmas as a season for rejoicing and merry making, the peace that people long for will be as elusive and temporal as a relative to the environment. In regions of conflict, the Christmas message may have less relevance when victims cry out of justice against the perpetrators. Anyway, some would ask, what is wrong about the Christmas message of peace? The see-able of peace as the world understands is not the same as the unseen peace that the Bible offers. For the world, peace means absence of strife and a mind free of any tension. This peace needs to be fuelled by the environment and therefore it is a relative term. The key to the inner peace that surpasses all understanding is in seeking God that is preceded by repenting for wrongs committed and seeking forgiveness or forgiving wrongdoers. For those in Nagaland, Christmas is more than it being the mother of all festivals. People understand Christmas as a time for celebrating the occasion but bereft of the real meaning of the birth of Christ. Humans long for peace among nations, peace within our own nation, peace within families, and, of course, peace with one another. In a psychology-driven age it’s the latter - peace within ourselves- that’s the pre-eminent felt need. People sing of peace, but they sing of peace between men; they don’t sing of peace between a man and his creator. This reconciliation with God is the peace of which the angels sang. Some may say that Christmas is a time for rejoicing and giving but it should not be replaced by material but a genuine concern to inspire hope to those in real need of peace which comes each day and not only during Christmas season.

DailyDevotion Sharing in the Atonement

God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ… —Galatians 6:14

The gospel of Jesus Christ always forces a decision of our will. Have I accepted God’s verdict on sin as judged on the Cross of Christ? Do I have even the slightest interest in the death of Jesus? Do I want to be identified with His death— to be completely dead to all interest in sin, worldliness, and self? Do I long to be so closely identified with Jesus that I am of no value for anything except Him and His purposes? The great privilege of discipleship is that I can commit myself under the banner of His Cross, and that means death to sin. You must get alone with Jesus and either decide to tell Him that you do not want sin to die out in you, or that at any cost you want to be identified with His death. When you act in confident faith in what our Lord did on the cross, a supernatural identification with His death takes place immediately. And you will come to know through a higher knowledge that your old life was “crucified with Him” (Romans 6:6). The proof that your old life is dead, having been “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20), is the amazing ease with which the life of God in you now enables you to obey the voice of Jesus Christ. Every once in a while our Lord gives us a glimpse of what we would be like if it were not for Him. This is a confirmation of what He said— “… without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). That is why the underlying foundation of Christianity is personal, passionate devotion to the Lord Jesus. We mistake the joy of our first introduction into God’s kingdom as His purpose for getting us there. Yet God’s purpose in getting us into His kingdom is that we may realize all that identification with Jesus Christ means.

Post-mortem

Re-imagining, re-creating, re-writing the Christmas narrative

T

he entire world for more than 2000years has been celebrating Jesus Christ incarnating on to this earth as a human baby with joy and gaiety. But, Christmas-2020 will be different this time. As we are of the fact that coronavirus has totally changed and challenged the usual patterns and formats of Christmas celebrations and put on hold many things. Every country is concerned about protecting the lives of its people. Stringent rules are invoked to restrict the movement of people, worshippers and revellers coming together in the name of celebrations. Carols, festive gatherings and worship services have been drastically be cut-down. By now, Xmas celebration mood should have started, but the world at large is on suspended animation. Christmas reminds us that God the Divine taking the form of human form of Jesus entering into the world of humans. This is indeed ground breaking and undoubtedly unprecedented. Therefore, Christmas offers us some thing new every year. It reminds us that God is in absolute control of the world we

live-in and more particularly of our lives. To a question: what God is doing in a world of global pandemic? A simple answer is God is involved in healing the world totally devastated by deadly pandemic. So, Christmas-2020 does mean God in Jesus Christ coming into the world is to humanize the world corroded with human-constructed divides. Never in human history had an invisible virus ravaged the entire world for about a year causing ramifying effects at the familial, communal and societal levels. It has brought everything to grinding halt and even now after developing vaccine leaders and others are perplexed how to contain the virus. In such horrific setting, Christmas-2020 is to be celebrated, and so, Christmas narrative, will have to be different that offers new meaning and hope to the world which is increasingly being immersed in despair, not knowing where to go and who to approach. The people across the world are passing through difficult times undergoing pain and suffering, and in such a context, Christmas-

2020 means we are reborn, reshaped and renewed. We are alive not being buckled by the deadly coronavirus, but boldly facing and fighting. What is it that makes us to go on in life? It is sheer grace of God. Yes, we live by grace alone which is costly and priceless. We are being made worthy as channels and vessels as we keep receiving from God the infinite grace for which God in Jesus Christ paid a heavy price. The experiences that we went through—could be in differing in terms of magnitudes and gradations, but certainly altered the purpose and meaning of life and shaped our notion of life and living. Life matters, because it is sacred and precious. Who is the Source and Sustainer of life? During coronavirus millions of people lost their lives and many continue to suffer and in the midst of a horrifying pandemic we live? How and why we are spared—questions that loom at large. Unlike the previous ones, Christmas-2020 will be unique and different, because it has drastically changed the format of celebrations and other rou-

tines. Experiences of going through the traumatic period of about a year facing numerous challenges and being alive obviously sheds newer insights that propels us to re-imagine, re-create and re-write the Christmas narrative afresh. In a world of total darkness and gloom, where many across the world have lost their near and dear ones, refrain to go to church, celebrate and shake-hands offering season’s greetings. Christmas carols hardly hit our door steps nowadays. Traditions that have been developed around Christmas such as the advent candles, the feeling of anticipation, of welcoming a great event—the birth of Jesus, who is Emmanuel, God with us should be interpreted to the context that we live. This is the Season, wherein we should look around. For instance, coronavirus has snapped the continuance of education of hundreds and thousands of poor girls and boys. Since many do not have the financial backing to pay their tuition fee; buy technology apps and other requisites stopped attending on-line class. And so, most of them have taken

up informal jobs. No one knows what would be their future. There are such stories where people lost their lives, livelihood and suffer in sub-zero climatic conditions. In such a scenario, how could Christmas be merry? Christmas-2020 narrative needs to be rewritten. Christmas-2020 will bring to us the realization that we cannot shut our ears and eyes to the reality around us. We cannot just drive past and pretend that all these poor, hurting people are not there. Emmanuel-God be with us when we strive towards bringing hope to others, especially those who have been affected, displaced and side-lined due to coronavirus. Christmas-2020 is supposed to rekindle our collective spirit, where we don’t just ‘celebrate’ amongst ourselves. A celebration or the meaning of Christmas narrative would become authentic when everybody is included showing love and compassion in varied ways particularly to those who have been gravely affected by coronavirus. God becoming human in and through Jesus and if this

is the essence of Christmas narrative, God in Jesus is involved in humanization process where millions needs the human touch, empathy, compassion, love and wholistic healing. God in Jesus is involved in healing the wounded and fractured world. So, Christmas-2020 narrative should blend the humanization and openness to the apparent reality that warrants our humility, gratitude and gratefulness to God who became incarnate as a human in the Person of Jesus. As Nachempfundener describes, “When we .... approach each other and stand by one another, are honest and avoid empty phrases, wait patiently and listen with sympathy, protect the fine and strengthen the weak, share sadness and rejoice over the success of others, view obstacles as opportunities and try to develop new ideas, are loving companions and thank warmly, give support instead of holding on, allow freedom and encourage people to go their own life’s path,.… then it will be Christmas.” Dr. John Mohan Razu

WB cannot be turned into Gujarat: Mamata

Ko l k ata , D e c 2 3 (PTI): Taking a jibe at the oft-repeated claim by BJP that the Gujarat model of development will be implemented in West Bengal should the party win the next state polls, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said that the people will have to prevent this from happening. The national anthem, the national song and the ‘Jai Hind’ slogan were all given to the world from West Bengal, she said at an event here. “Bengal thrives on ex-

cellence and merit. We cannot allow to turn it into Gujarat”, the TMC supremo, who is a vocal critic of BJP, said. “The soil of Bengal is the source of life. We have to protect this soil. We have to take pride in this. There is no one who can come from outside and say this place will be turned into Gujarat,” the TMC supremo said iterating her ‘outsider’ charge against the saffron party. “Our message is that we are for all... Humanity is for all whether he is a Sikh, Jain, Muslim or a Christian.

Kangana home demolition: MSHRC seeks BMC chief presence

Mumbai,Dec 23 (PTI): The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) on Wednesday asked the municipal commissioner of Mumbai to appear before it on January 20 during a hearing of a petition filed against demolition of parts of actor Kangana Ranauts bungalow here by the BMC. The petition was moved beforethe commission two days ago claiming that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s act of razing portions of Ranauts bungalow in suburban Bandra was aviolation of her human rights. The BMC had claimed the actor had carried out illegal work at the bungalow and its officials therefore, acted in accordance with

the law. The petitioner, Aditya Mishra, has relied on an order of the Bombay High Court which has termed the BMC’s drivea “malice in law”. He also citeda Supreme Court ruling that declared right to private property to be a human right. If any act by the state or its agencies pertaining to someone’s private property is found to be illegal, then it is violation of human rights, said the petitioner, citing the apex court order. “When the act of BMC is found to be illegal by the Bombay High Court, then it’s a crystal clear case of violation of human rights, which warrants the intervention of the commission,” he said.

New Delhi, Dec 23 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the next instalment of the financial benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) on December 25 via videoconferencing, his office said on Wednesday. We don’t allow any division among them”, she said. Referring to the new strain of COVID-19, she said it is very strong and every one will have to be very cautious and take extreme care of their health. Like dengue changes character, the same thing has happened in the case of COVID-19. “A flight from the UK which reached the Kolkata airport carried two passengers who have tested positive. All flights to the UK have been cancelled,” Banerjee said. “Now winter has come and cold and fever are automatic companions. So there is a need to take extra care like wearing masks, sanitizing phones and clothes,” she said adding if people take extra care then COVID-19 can be defeated. “Our government has decided to award the coronavirus warriors either with money or jobs,” the chief minister said. Banerjee said during the year the artistes have not been able to earn money due to the pandemic. The government will hold 630 fairs from December to January and different departments will participate in them. Folk and other artistes will be allowed to perform in these fairs, which will help them overcome the fear of COVID- 19. But the regulation of physical distancing will have to be maintained, she added.

The other lane (Delhi to Noida) of the road is open for commuters, according to Noida Traffic Police officials, who suggested the alternative DND and Kalindi Kunj routes for avoiding inconvenience. The protestors who have gathered in Noida belong to various districts of western Uttar Pradesh, and they want to go to Delhi to join the bigger stir called chiefly by the farmer unions of Punjab and Haryana. Thousands of farmers are currently staying put at Delhi’s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in protest against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. They have expressed apprehension that these laws would pave the way for the dismantling of the minimum support price system, leaving them at the “mercy” of big corporations. However, the government has maintained that the new laws will bring farmers better opportunities and usher in new technologies in agriculture.

He was briefed by #GOC #FireandFury Corps and other local commanders on the operational preparedness of our forces,” the Army tweeted. The Army said Gen Naravane interacted with

the troops deployed in forward areas and exhorted them to continue working with the same “zeal and enthusiasm”. He also distributed sweets and cakes ahead of Christmas. Around three-andhalf months ago, Indian troops had occupied a number of strategic heights in the Mukhpari, Rechin La and Magar hill areas around the southern bank of the Pangong lake in east-

ern Ladakh after the Chinese People’s Liberation Army(PLA) attempted to intimidate them in the area on the intervening night of August 29 and 30. “General MM Naravane #COAS undertook on the spot inspection of the state of #habitat of troops on the forward line of defences at #RechinLa. An adult can marry, convert as per her choice: Calcutta HC Kolkata, Dec 23 (PTI): Hearing a petition by a father claiming that his daughter has been unduly influenced to marry a man of a different religion, the Calcutta High Court has observed that there can be no interference if an adult marries as per her choice and decides to convert. After a 19-year old woman married a person of her choice, her father petitioned the high court, complaining that his daughter’s statement before a magistrate may not have been recorded in an atmosphere where she felt comfortable. On an FIR filed by the father, the police had produced the woman before a judicial magistrate, before whom she made a statement that she had married of her own will.

“If an adult marries as per her choice and decides to convert and not return to her paternal house, there can be no interference in the matter,” a division bench comprising justices Sanjib Banerjee and Arijit Banerjee observed on Monday. Upon the father’s complaint, the high court had directed that the woman would meet the seniormost additional district judge in Tehatta and that sufficient care was to be taken so that she was not under any coercion or undue influence. The bench noted that despite a clear and clean report being furnished by the additional district judge, the father harbours some suspicion. Susmita Saha Dutta, the law-

yer representing the father, claimed before the division bench that the husband was present within the court premises at Tehatta in Nadia district when the woman appeared before the judge. The bench directed that to allay the fathers suspicion, the woman will meet additional public prosecutor Saibal Bapuli in his chamber in Kolkata on December 23. The bench further directed that at the time the woman meets Bapuli, who is representing the state in the matter, there should be no one else in the room, including her husband. It directed Bapuli to file a short report when the matter appears for hearing again on December 24.

said in another tweet. It said the Army chief also visited the forward base of Tara and interacted with the local commanders and troops. He appreciated their high morale and state of readiness. The military face-off erupted on May 5 following violent clashes between the Indian army and the PLA in the Pangong lake area. The clashes were followed by a similar incident in north Sikkim on May 9. Last week, India and China held another round of diplomatic talks during which they agreed to continue work towards ensuring complete disengagement of troops in all friction points along the LAC in eastern Ladakh at the “earliest”. It was agreed at the talks that the next round of military dialogue should be held at an early date so that both sides can work towards an early and complete disengagement of troops in accordance with the existing bilateral agreements and protocols. India and China have held several rounds of diplomatic and military talks in the last few months to resolve the standoff. However, no concrete breakthrough has been achieved so far.

NIA arrests Khalistani terrorist

NEW DELHI, DEC 23 (PTI): The NIA has arrested absconding Khalistani terrorist Gurjeet Singh Nijjar at the Delhi airport on his deportation from Cyprus for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy to revive Sikh militancy in India for a separate state of Khalistan, an official said on Wednesday. The premier investigation agency had registered a case in January last year against accused Harpal Singh under the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Nijjar, the main conspirator, Harpal and Moin Khan were active on social media platforms and allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy to revive Sikh militancy with the ultimate aim of the formation of a separate state of Khalistan, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) spokesperson said. As part of the conspiracy, the three used to post videos and images containing praises of militant Jagtar Singh Hawara (a convict in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh), the Operation Blue Star of 1984, besides proKhalistani posts related to the proscribed organisation, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), with the sole intention to motivate likeminded Sikh youngsters and others to join the so-called Khalistan movement, the official said. Moin was in Tihar Jail from 2013 to 2016, during which he developed contact with Hawara, showed his willingness to work for him and shared his contact number with him, the NIA spokesperson said. S u b s e q u e n t l y, a s planned, Moin sent a friend request to the Facebook ID, “Khalistani Jindabad Khalistan”, from his account on the social media platform. Through this Facebook ID, he came in contact with Harpal and Nijjar, the official said. Nijjar motivated Moin by discussing about the “atrocities committed against Muslims and Sikhs in India and convinced him to work for a separate Khalistan State”, he added. Nijjar directed Moin to purchase a pistol and ammunition in 2018 in order to give effect to their nefarious designs, the official said.

Donald Trump denounces ‘wasteful’ Covid-19 aid bill

L o n d o n, D e c 2 3 (Agencies): US President Trump has urged Congress to amend a $900bn (£670bn) coronavirus relief bill to more than triple its stimulus payments to Americans. In a video message posted on Twitter, he said the package “really is a disgrace”, full of “wasteful” items. “It’s called the Covid relief bill, but it has almost nothing to do with Covid,” he said. The $900bn bill includes one-off $600 payments to most Americans, but Mr Trump said the figure should be $2,000. His statement stunned Capitol Hill. Republicans and Democrats have been negotiating a coronavirus stimulus rescue package since July and Mr Trump - who has largely stayed out of the talks - had been expected to sign the legislation into law following its passage through Congress on Monday night. The package of measures is linked to a bigger government spending bill, which includes foreign aid funding as well as a $1.4tn spending measure to fund federal agencies for the next nine months. Those agencies will have to shut if the president vetoes or refuses to sign it by midnight next Monday.

Donald Trump Most legislation that comes from Congress requires the approval of the president before becoming law. However, Mr Trump has not specifically said he would veto the bill. Even if he does, US media say there could be enough votes from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress to override his veto. In Tuesday night’s message from the White House, Mr Trump baulked at spending in the bill on other countries, arguing that this money should go to struggling Americans. He said: “This bill contains $85.5m for assistance to Cambodia, $134m to Burma, $1.3bn for Egypt and the Egyptian military, which will go out and buy almost exclusively Russian military equipment, $25m for democracy and gender programmes in Pakistan, $505m to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicara-

gua, and Panama.” The president questioned why the Kennedy Center, a performing arts complex in Washington DC, was set to receive $40m when it is not open, and more than $1bn has been allocated to museums and galleries in the capital. Mr Trump concluded: “Congress found plenty of money for foreign countries, lobbyists and special interests, while sending the bare minimum to the American people who need it. It wasn’t their fault. It was China’s fault. “I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000 or $4,000 for a couple. “I’m also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation and to send me a suitable bill, or else the next administration will have to deliver a Covid relief package.” On Monday afternoon, congressional leaders unveiled a 5,593-page package and voted on it several hours later. Several lawmakers protested that they had not been given an opportunity to read the contents. Nevertheless the bill sailed through the House of Representatives by 35953 and the Senate by 92-6.

Prachanda replaces Oli as new parliamentary leader Kathmandu, Dec 23 (PTI): Nepal Communist Party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was on Wednesday elected as the ruling party’s new parliamentary leader, replacing Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. The 66-year-old leader’s nomination was proposed by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, who was earlier named as one of the two chairmen of the party, at a parliamentary party meeting of the Prachanda-led faction at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwar, My Republica reported. Oli, 68, was removed from the post of party’s chairman on Tuesday by a central committee meeting of the Prachanda-led faction, which also decided to take disciplinary action against him for dissolving the House of Representatives unconstitutionally. Prachanda said that his first priority would be to restore the dissolved House of Representatives and form a new government. “I will unify all the democratic forces and political parties to keep the hard-won political system and parliament lively and functioning,” he said. He thanked lawmakers for electing him as the parliamentary leader and said that he has been handed over a huge responsibility during this challenging time.

Masks alone may not stop COVID Gunman kills three police officers in France o n d o n, D e c 2 3 more officers who arrived. was still inside or had esspread, physical distancing key L(Agencies): A gunman The woman was rescued. caped. Washington, Dec 23 (PTI): Simply wearing a face mask may not protect you from catching the novel coronavirus, that causes COVID-19, if you are not maintaining physical distancing, according to a study. The research, published in the journal Physics of Fluids, tested how five different types of mask materials affected the spread of droplets that carry the SARS-CoV-2 virus, when we cough or sneeze. All the material the researchers tested dramatically reduced the number of droplets that were transmitted. However, enough droplets to potentially cause the viral illness still made it through several of the materials when physical distance was less than six feet, they said. “A mask definitely helps, but if the people are

very close to each other, there is still a chance of spreading or contracting the virus,” said Krishna Kota, an associate professor at New Mexico State University in the US. “It’s not just masks that will help. It’s both the masks and distancing,” Mr Kota added. The researchers developed a machine that uses an air generator to mimic human coughs and sneezes. The generator was used to blow tiny liquid particles, like the airborne droplets of sneezes and coughs, through laser sheets in an airtight square tube with a camera. They blocked the flow of the droplets in the tube with five different types of materials -- a regular cloth, a two-layer cloth mask, a wet two-layer cloth, a surgical mask, and a medical-grade N-95 ventilator.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court forwarded all the writ petitions against Prime Minister Oli’s move to dissolve Parliament to a Constitutional bench. Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana’s single bench passed the order after a preliminary hearing on the 12 different writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the paper reported. The Constitutional

bench will start the hearing on Friday. The bench is led by Chief Justice Rana and will have four other justices who will be picked by him. Although the petitioners demanded an interim order against the decision, the apex court has refused to issue any such order. Meanwhile, leaders of the Prachanda-led faction have told the Election Commission that they hold a two-thirds majority in the party and therefore they must be granted official recognition by the election body, the paper said. “We are here with the proof that we are the only legitimate Nepal Communist Party,” Leela Mani Pokharel, a standing committee member of the party, was quoted as saying by the paper. Pokharel said that

their faction has a majority with official signatures of 315 central committee members of the party. To get official recognition from the EC, the faction should have majority members, full details and their signatures along with copies of citizenships. Ne pal on Sunday plunged into a political crisis after Prime Minister Oli got President Bidya Devi Bhandari to dissolve Parliament, a controversial move amidst a prolonged tussle for power between him and former premier Prachanda within the ruling dispensation. The move came after the intra-party feud reached climax in the ruling party which has been witnessing months long tussle between two factions, one led by Oli and another led by Prachanda.

FC Goa beat Jamshedpur FC 2-1 in ISL

New Delhi, Dec 23 (Agencies): Igor Angulo scored a stoppagetime winner to help FC Goa script a thrilling 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Wednesday. According to News 18, Stephen Eze (33’) had put Jamshedpur ahead in the first half but Angulo’s brilliant brace (64’, 90+4’) helped Goa claim all three points and end JFC’s sixmatch unbeaten run. Both sides showed attacking intent from the word go but had just a single shot on target in the first half as they failed to create clear-cut opportunities. Brandon Fernandes had a chance to put his side ahead in the game early on when he was set up by Jorge Ortiz on the left. The midfielder got the ball at the edge of the box and curled at the far post, but only to see his attempt miss the top corner. Jamshedpur broke the deadlock at the halfhour mark and the goal

Telem Jackichand Singh of Jamshedpur FC during the Hero Indian Super League against FC Goa, Wednesday. (PTI) came from a set-piece. Aitor Monroy put in a long ball at the far post and Eze managed to beat Mohammad Nawaz with an outstretched right foot. The Goa custodian should have done better. Jamshedpur’s defence frustrated Goa’s attack

Lakers lose season opener L o n d o n, D e c 2 3 ( Ag e n c i e s ) : N BA champions the Los Angeles Lakers were beaten 116-109 by the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday’s opening night of the new season. The Clippers’ Paul George scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half while Kawhi Leonard added 26 of his own. It is the second successive year the Clippers have defeated the Lakers in their season opener. Elsewhere, Kevin Durant scored 22 on his Brooklyn Nets debut as

they beat the Golden State Warriors 125-99. Two-time NBA champion Durant joined the Nets on a fouryear $164m deal in the summer of 2019 - after leaving the Warriors - but missed last season with an Achilles tendon injury. When asked about the 10-time NBA All-Star’s return to the court, Nets coach Steve Nash said: “It’s a big, big difference in taking 18 months away from the NBA and coming back into the NBA with everything he’s gone through.

in the first half, with Eze standing tall at the back. The defender was there to thwart every danger posed by the Gaurs. Though Goa dominated in terms of possession and passes, they hardly tested Jamshedpur keeper TP Rehenesh in the first 45 minutes.

JFC nearly doubled the lead, soon after the restart but Nawaz’s brilliant save kept his side in the game. Isaac Vanmalsawma found Jackichand Singh and the former Goa player played a first-time pass to Aniket Jadhav. He pulled the trigger but an alert

Nawaz did well to deflect the ball over the bar. Goa squandered an opportunity when Angulo shot wide with only the keeper at his mercy. Minutes later, Ortiz had a shot saved by Rehenesh. But Goa were not to be denied. The Gaurs were awarded a penalty when James Donachie was brought down in the box by Alexandre Lima. Angulo sent the keeper in the wrong direction to net his seventh goal of the competition. Jamshedpur nearly restored their lead in the 70th minute but Nerijus Valskis’ brilliantly-taken free-kick came off the crossbar. Goa were lucky not to concede late in the game when Valskis played Lima on goal. The latter took a first-time shot which hit the crossbar, bounced off the line, and came back in to play. But replays suggested that the ball bounced inside the goal. That decision would cost Jamshedpur dear as Angulo guided in a corner-kick in stoppage time to gift Goa the win.

Messi breaks Pele scoring record London, Dec 23 (Agencies): Lionel Messi scored his 644th goal for Barcelona during his side’s victory over Real Valladolid to break Pele’s record of the most goals for one club. Argentina forward Messi, 33, scored Barca’s third when he collected Pedri’s backheel, took a touch then slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jordi Masip. Messi created the first goal when his cross was headed in by Clement Lenglet and started the move for the second, finished off by Martin Braithwaite. Messi also hit the post in injury time. Brazil great Pele scored 643 goals in 19 seasons for Santos in his homeland between 1956 and 1974. Messi, who scored his first goal for Barca in 2005 and has gone on to win 10 La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues, is out of contract at the end of the season and able to talk to other clubs from January. In August, he said he wanted to exercise a clause in his deal which he

said allowed him to leave on a free transfer, but Barcelona refused, saying his 700m euro (£624m) release clause had to be met. Earlier this week, Messi said the incident caused him to have “a very bad time in the summer”, although he was in superb form against Valladolid on Tuesday, inspiring a win that took Barcelona back up to fifth, eight points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. Barca could have scored more goals but Masip made a number of fine saves and substitute Philippe Coutinho also hit the woodwork late on. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen made two one-handed saves to deny Fabian Orellana and Kike Perez, preserving Barcelona’s clean sheet. Earlier on Tuesday, Atletico beat third-placed Real Sociedad 2-0 thanks to goals from Mario Hermoso and Marcos Llorente to go three points clear of Real Madrid.

Nagaland produces its first winner in National Car Rally DI M A P U R , DEC 2 3 (NPN): Lanusanen Pongener created history by winning a round in the Champions Yacht Club MRF Indian National Rally Championship in Itanagar near Chimpu and Hollangi, on December 20. By winning the championship, Lanusanen a member of Team Anumolu, powered by MRF became the first Naga to earn the honours in the highly-competitive 33-year history of the National Championship. He partnered with navigator

Lokaranjan. Driving a Honda City, shod on specially prepared MRF tyres, the talented driver, had a new navigator Lokaranjan HJ from Bengaluru, calling his pace notes and miraculously turned the tables in two-day National event. Lanusanen represented his home club Amam in Nagaland events and also associated with NAMSA, the Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Club. Lanu, as he is popularly known in South India, was excluded because of an

Lanusanen Pongener engine which is older than 15 years and did not get a fitness certificate. However, they relaxed the rules and allowed him to take part, and

he beat most of the biggies and had bagged the INRC4 class. “The people of Nagaland and all the North

East have many talents and champions but we are not included in the mainstream. Time has come to build bridges and change it by showcasing huge talents and skills. I feel very proud to win this round despite all the confusion, anger and frustration my co-driver made me relax and taught me how to be patient. I thank Champions Yacht Club for identifying me as potential talent, MRF for specialised tarmac tyres and specially Anumolu Ramakrishna, my sponsor, who blindly

believed in my capabilities even though we never met. I am eager to meet him in the next round in Bengaluru or Hampi,” said Lanu. Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association president Ruguo Desmo Kesiezie said, “Lanu is the first from our state to take part in the National Rally events. Though we have local rallies, they are not part of the nationals. We are proud of his achievement and hope to produce many more drivers from the state.”
