PCBA holds ‘prayer walk’ for clean election

DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh has directed Riongsanger Putu Menden // Village Council and Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang to ensure peaceful electioneering process be conducted in 24 Angetyongpang A/C, particularly in Mongsenyimti village.

DC issued the directive as both the village councils have accepted the verdict of the High Court order dated January 31, 2023 and the same has been followed in letter and spirit.

It may be noted that as directed by the Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench dated 3101-2023, both the Riongsanger Putu Menden/Village Council; and Mongsenyimti Senso Mungdang were summoned by district magistrate on February 7, 2023.

DIMAPUR: Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA), Hq Nyengchingkong, Longleng organized a “Prayer Walk” for clean election in collaboration with Longleng town churches and also in all Phom churches on February 19.

Election Movement Core Committee under PBCA appealed to the voters, who were above 18 years citizens to stick “One Person, One Vote”. At the rally, the PBCA appealed to the gathering to not sell their votes and refrain from using intoxicated substances but as Christian state should participate by following the model code of conduct.

The association has also cautioned leaders and members of various polticial parties to “differentiate between religious spiritual formed of phrases and use them accordingly”.

Phom Baptist Christian Association also reminded the citizens that election comes after every five years, therefore asked them to cast their vote as per clean election guideline.

GPRN/NSCN directive to members

DIMAPUR: GPRN/NSCN has informed all the members of GPRN both civil and military wing to report and be stationed in their respective designated camps and units within three days with effect from the publication of this information.

MIP of GRPN/NSCN said that the directive has been issued in pursuant to NSCN disciplinary conduct and all GPRN members have been advised and obligatorily refrain from involving and sharing any political platform or render mobilization and campaigning activities in the ensuing assembly election 2023.

MIP said that the order has been issued in the backdrop of the “Indo-Naga political issue still being in a vexed position to be resolved and the clamor for the Indian government sponsored election vigorously manifesting without any qualm and conscientiousness of the larger issue of the Naga national cause”.

The two organizations appeared before the court and February 10, 2023 and on consideration of their written submission, it has been observed that they have in their volition categorically stated that, they have accepted the verdict of the High Court’s order dated 3101-2023, and the same has being followed in letter and spirit.

DNSU condemns poll-violence

DIMAPUR: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has condemned the poll-related violence at Indisen village, Dimapur on February 18 evening.

In a press statement, DNSU appealed to the supporters of NDPP and LJP (RV) under 2 Dimapur-II A/C to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and abstain from such anti-social activities that was disruptive to the process of a free and fair election.

The union said such actions by the campaigners at this time when the students of Class 10 and 12 were preparing for their upcoming HSLC and HSSLC examinations create disturbance to the students.

Therefore, DNSU fervently appealed to all the concerned citizens to maintain the true spirit of a peaceful election.

DIMAPUR: Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Field Office Kohima, in collaboration with National Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagaland held an integrated communication and outreach programme on Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at NIT conference hall at Chumoukedima on Monday. Addressing the participants, EAC Chumoukedima, Dziesengunuo Mere said election was the process through which the citizens elected their representatives to govern them. Stressing on the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct which was framed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure a free and peaceful election, she urged the people to abide by the rules and guidelines of the MCC until the electoral process is over. She said through the SVEEP, the ECI was trying to create awareness and educate the electors for an inclusive, accessible, free and fair election. Mere informed that the ECI has also came up with various Apps in mobile phones and advised the people to access these Apps and actively participate in the electoral process, instead of just sitting passively and waiting for the results. The administrator also highlighted on the provisions that the ECI has provided for the senior citizens, Covid patients and Covid suspected persons where they can cast their vote from their home.

Speaking as resources person, District Level Master Trainer James Sema gave a presentation on the working of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT). Sema also informed the voters, especially the first-time voters that they can approach the polling officials to assist them in case of any genuine doubts or confusion. Earlier, in his welcome address, registrar NIT, Nagaland Dr. Nosekhol Albert Khizho appealed to the young voters to exercise their franchise as per the democratic principles of the country.
